African Tigress you are doing an amazing job in exposing the Caribbean experience even to us already here in the Caribbean. I lived in the Caribbean all my life but because of your style of travel vlogging I get to see what a pan yard really looks like for the first time. Thanks for the experiences.
I myself was surprised and I am a Trini. When I visited about nine years ago, I did a pan yard crawl, but this one is really big. It was nice that she showed it.
The evolution of steel pan music in Trinidad and Tobago is a testament to the resilience and creativity of African cultural expression. Despite efforts to suppress African musical traditions during the colonial / slavery era, the spirit of musical innovation persevered. The steel pan, born in Trinidad and Tobago in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, emerged from the banning of African drums during the colonial period. Islanders turned discarded metal objects, especially oil barrels, into musical instruments by shaping, tuning, and refining them, leading to the creation of the steel pan. Over time, it evolved from simple instruments to sophisticated ones capable of producing melodies and harmonies.
I was born and raised in T& T but left for NYC at the age of 20 yrs. I have lived in The USA most of my adult life. My last trip there was in the year 2019. I was born and raised in Diego Martin. Have fun its a very party oriented there. The people are friendly and the food is the best.
You should go to Central Market on Saturday or Sunday morning aroud 7am. Things are cheaper in the big market. When they weigh your fruits, vegetables and meats check that the scale is right.
Your video showed me the beauty and joy of Trinidad and Tobago. I was amazed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the people, no matter where you met them. I fell in love with these Caribbean islands and their culture. Thank you for teaching me so much about them. 😊
Edit: *removing conversion*. It was so nice for those people to start chatting to you. Such a good watch. Happy to see you enjoying Trinidad and by large, the Caribbean.
@@Travel_plus_adventure Yes I'm aware what the official rate is. 7:1 to 8:1 is still far more realistic than saying 400 TTD converts to 85 USD (as was initial comment).
There are many restaurants that you guys passed by in those areas. Sorry you had to walk so much. Enjoy our beautiful islands and it's the best time of the year to visit,.Trini christmas is the best. The music is called Parang, it's christmas and most Trinidadians love this times, lots of preparations, decorating the homes, buying up new rugs, curtains is part of a huge thing here.
If you don't have Soca parang on the streets, it's not Christmas. We love the music, Carnival time pure Soca, you may not like it, cause its partying non stop, welcome to Trinidad, watching from the UK
About Parang music, there's Trinidadians (mixed) who are of Venezuelan descent. Parang is traditionally sung in Spanish. But there's Parang music in English, or both in English and Spanish. There's a late Parang queen named Daisy Voisin

Steelpans are made from oil drums. They are the only percussive musical instrument. They are played with sticks of various lengths (based on the pan being played), wrapped with rubber or rubber tubing on one end. They are indented at the surface, cut, burnt. Then they are marked into notes, then some are chromed or painted. There are several tyoes of steelpans. They are tenor, double tenor, double seconds, guitar, cello, tenor bass, six bass, seven bass, and nine bass. Together they are called a steel orchestra. During the carnival season or even before, the pannist practice in the panyards for a competition called Panorama. There are different categories. They are single pans, small, medium and large bands. The finals are held in the savannah, the Saturday before Carnival Monday and Tuesday. There is also a competition for children. That competition is held a week before Carnival Monday in the morning. It caters for school and non school children. The tenor, double tenor and seconds are the frontline pans. Guitar and cellos are middle pans. Basses are backgroud. The first round of competition are held in the panyards at differents zones across the country. East zone, North zone, South/Central zone and Tobago for adults.
@@islandgirl3330 Goodday, hope so too. The first children's event is St. Anthony's Children's Carnival Competition at the school's ground at 12pm on Jan 27

Lynn, I think the apples you purchased are called Gala apples not Gaza apples. You made the mistake of pronouncing it Gaza because the vendor's "L" looks like a "Z". Gala apples are a pretty common variety here in Canada and I believe in the USA as well. Wit respect to the loud music playing everywhere in Trinidad, you are going to have the same issue when you go to Jamaica so just be aware of this when you get there. No loud music in the country side but in Kingston you will probably have to run away from the music if you don't won't your videos copyrighted by RUclips. Take care or as us Jamaicans like to say "Walk Good."
The steelpan/ empty oil barrels. Before making them into musical instruments, they contained oil. Trinidad is an oil producing nation. All credits to this musical instrument goes to Winston Spree. Research for more info. Enjoy your time in our island.
Food on the whole is very expensive in the groceries in T&T. Ground provision, fruits and vegetables are even more expensive. Ground provisions like dasheen, cassava, yams, sweet potatoes, eddoes, salted fish were mainly consumed by the Afro poorer class people of T&T avoiding the high grocery prices, on realizing that, they hiked the preces even higher than the grocery prices. What you paid for the avocado is around the price you would get them for.
Unless you go Debe :) I buy fresh meat on the highway junction Marabella and all the fruits and veggies in Debe...although to be fair, I get all the free fruits in Morugaaaaa!
