- Today, we drive a Freightliner bus. We drove one before a few years back, but this time, I have made sure to turn on the retarder for some jake-brake goodness.

It has the same engine as the C2

The 118 Gold, what a bizarre route (made even more bizarre today due to purple line construction). Back when I lived in Prince Frederick hall, I'd ride through the full 45 min loop just for fun while listening to an audiobook for my class.
Very cool looking bus and love the position of the gear lever....nice and convenient.
Jake brake sounds pretty wicked on this thing. I like it.
Thanks for posting these videos I always appreciate it! If you ever get the chance to get your hands on a newer freightliner with the dd8 or dd5 I’d watch in a heartbeat!

This is a 2013 Freightliner/Champion Defender powered by Cummins ISB6.7 and Allison 2500 transmission.
Where I live we have those exact buses. I love freightliner defenders

Can you drive an navistar truck?
I’ve always wondered what these types of buses are used for. Are they for shuttle routes?
They are used on routes in which a medium sized transit bus would not fit.
@@eugew23 well that’s where 29 ft transit buses come in. Can’t they also go on routes that a full sized bus can’t fit in?
@@superbrownsheep3777 Width and other clearances matter just as much as the length of the bus. I reckon this shuttle might be a bit narrower and shorter than a 29’, but I could be wrong. The shortest conventional transit bus I’ve seen on this channel is 35’.
@@superbrownsheep3777 that is also correct. The 29 foot Gilligs are also used in tight areas.

I have a 2012 Freightliner m2 box truck. The truck has only 130,000 miles. I bought the truck new and I only use it a few days a week. I like the truck but I am having a huge issue with it. Since last fall the truck constantly wants to do a regen literally every 30 miles. I will be driving it down the highway and the truck will just stop. I have replaced everything I could of thought of. It has been to Freightliner twice and they can’t figure it out. I love the truck, but I am ready to scrap it. Does anyone have this problem? And if so, does anyone know what to do?
My old truck (2014) had the same issue.. simple fix.. delete the entire DPF/DEF emissions system. I did it on my M2 when I had it several years ago. Picked it up for a hell of a deal because the previous owner got tired of messing with it. He replaced everything twice over and it was still wanting to regen all the time and reducing engine power. I had the delete done and never had a problem with it after that. Bought it at just over 70k miles and ran it until 345k miles and I ended up selling it for over double what I bought it for. The emissions bs on these new diesels is completely ridiculous.. that's why most O/O's seek out pre-emissions trucks.. no bs to deal with. Best of luck to you in getting it figured out/fixed.
The DEF system cause the most issues on the new vehicles, for sure. Clogged filters, wimpy power, muted sound.

@@eugew23 It is the Cummins ISB 6.7L. I can tell by the acceleration and the year of the Freightliner.

Some versions may have that as an option. Most don't, however.

I currently work for a transit agency in Virginia. I also do not have a school bus endorsement, so I cannot drive school buses, unfortunately. Hopefully, one day.
