Thanks for starting your channel (came from Wineking)! Knowing there are few Masters of Wine, I appreciate the free content and the awesomeness/fun seeing someone world-class in their field(s) to experience it myself. I just tried the Stags Leap Artemis and it was really worth it. Very aromatic right away, nicely dry, lots to taste and lasts long. The cherry, dark chocolate and cedar along with the deer/artemis motif is really cool, epic and elegant.
Nice to see you Dr. Pat. I saw you in Winsking Channel in the first. I was just worried that you might be sick because you are not shown on the Wine King channel in these days. I miss you Dr.Pat.
Wow! I was having a glass of 2017 Barberesco from Piedmonte in Italy while watching this lovely wine lesson, and when Dr. Pat explained how the smelling-receptors were located in the back of the throat, it was like a complete epiphany for me to taste the wine again, and make the connection between throat and nose! Thanks for unlocking this slightly wonky insight into my own biology, I will certainly alsways think of this when tasting wine from now on!
Excellent video Lots of information loved it I would love to see the cooking video and the recipe Keep up your work looking forward to see more wine testing 🙏
Dear Patrick, many thanks for the awesome video! It is elegant, classy, well-paced and very informative at the same time. The format you have chosen is amazing. I am looking forward to watching your next videos.
More videos please, the way you go about describing the wines and experiences is very good. Enjoyed seeing you on wine king which is why I came looking for your channel.
Yes please more videos! And would love the recipe as well. I made a brasato de manzo al vino rosso and I paired it with my own wine which is a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah and it was fantastic my family absolutely loved it. As an amateur winemaker I would love to know more about your judging process and any recommendations are always welcome
Your meal sounds delicious! I have a couple of wine judging competitions coming up this summer and I intend to incorporate aspects of those into my videos. How I decide or “judge” which wine to pair with my dish will be discussed in upcoming videos. It’s hard for me to discuss in a vacuum, I have to smell the ingredients and put some thought into my decision. Maybe I should make my own food wine like you do?
Today, I learned one more things... Thanks for your lecture!! and very Educational Video for me... also get answers through Bernnadette's sort of questions. That's Great!
I guess I should try 'Bottle Shock' on this weekend remembering Steven Spurrier. Addendum: I watched it and got emotional. It was quite touching. It might not be the best movie but something like a Napa Valley anthem.
Memorizing a range of flavors for different varieties seems like a great idea - I always struggle coming up with flavors to describe wines. Please give more tips like that for us that are new to wine.
I agree with the advice...."Keep Practicing"!! Wine tasting never gets old! I also struggle with being able to pick out specific aromas or tastes. I find having a list is helpful as I don't have enough experience recalling to memory so quickly a smell or taste. A question maybe you could address in a future video: What types of exercises or practices can one do to increase your recall of a variety of aromas and tastes? For instance, if one hasn't had the experiences of smelling "cigar box" or "cassis" (throw in any other aroma), are there recommendations on how to practice these experiences? Also, Patrick, wonderful information. And Bernadette, looking lovely as usual.
From experience. Be extra aware of smell and flavours. Also in everyday life. For example, know how vegetables & fruits smell. Herbs & spices. A cigar box, leather, coffee beans. As well plants & flowers. And so on. Construct a memory of odors & flavours, during the years. To better recognize odors & flavours in wine. Take your time and talk about it with wine friends. "Keep Practicing" I agree!
I'm a stroke NP in Brooklyn but started studying enology during lockdown, I'm in love! I also started going to NJ just for the Costco wine because of course I also watch you on the wineking extensively. I purchased a Lalande-de-Pomerol for about 30 bucks there and it tasted incredible. I can't imagine how it can be that different from a Petrus which is a stone's throw away. Does the price really justify the difference? Thank you
There are so many similarities between aspects of wine and medicine. Blind tasting is the same intellectual process as generating a differential diagnosis. Above a certain price point, reputation, history and rarity are the drivers of price.
Oh wow, that's such an accurate analogy, no wonder my assessment skills have improved! In regards to quality and complexity, wouldn't it be relatively simple to choose a bottle for around 300 that would rivel a Petrus or romanee conti? Isn't that the real reason for honing your palate, to find incredible value for a reasonable price? Would love to see some coq au vin, as a bona-fide francophile, I've always wanted to make it but don't know where I can find a rooster lol
Wonderful content as always. I appreciate a WM reviewing and passing along notes on approachable and easily available wines. Food preparation would be a nice touch and it seems Pat is gluten free. I am celiac (and dairy) and would love to see your GF take and these dishes. Cheers and thanks for the great content!

Excellent content. Congratulations. I did notice that you have not mentioned points when talking about wine and the bottles you select don’t advertise (they don’t need to), but is there something behind that or just it didn’t fit in to the story you’re telling.
I stopped considering points as a positive attribute when purchasing wines before I entered the MW program in 1995. No, no, no! Gamay is a grape variety. Gamey is an adjective sometimes used to describe wine and meanind tasting of wild game. And, yes, Bernadette is very classy.
Great STuff. But let's be real...90% of the dining population would never notice the gas in Sanford PN. When I point out flaws to my friends, I am accused of being a snob. Ha! Once had a bottle of SavBlanc that was so corked I could even put my nose in the glass , much less drink it...but my group of interns were throwing it back ad infinitum. I just politely enjoyed the conversation. Maybe do a vid talking about aroma vs palette. taste vs smell. Most folks think a wine TASTES sweet when the AROMA is fruity. You know what Im saying?

When you talk about wine, you can see that the composition is the same and a little awkward for a long time.
It would be nice to talk more comfortably. You can add more humor code.
I will see the good words well today.
Please google Garrigue for the explanation - I think it's similar to what I smell when I am next to a freshly cut Christmas Tree and a great holiday meal is being prepared. I can't break down the smell, but I know what it is when I smell it.

@@bernadettewroblak9371 Wow I didn't know you even check the Korean comments too
Since I am working at the tree farm, I guess I know the smell from korean fir(the christmas tree), but never caught it from wine yet
I'd love to try it next time when I'm enjoying cdp next time :) Thanks!
Stag’s Leap isn’t a Kirkland’s Costco wine ... lol
Nice Korean subtitle. Must be helped by Jay ?

A surgeon and an attorney walked into a wine tasting...
More common of a scenario than you would think!
Are you saying that we are ordinary Patrick?
@@bernadettewroblak9371 I haven’t watched the entire video yet but I’m guessing you are the attorney lol
Yes, show us the cooking! Btw. it's Gamay and not Gamey. Bernadette is as beautiful as always. Very classy woman.
No, no, no! Gamay is a grape variety. Gamey is an adjective sometimes used to describe wine and meanind tasting of wild game. And, yes, Bernadette is very classy.
Was that a pun?
And thank you!
@@bernadettewroblak9371 No pun. Sometimes you just don't see the game for all those bottles.
Love the conversation. Very educational. It’s a challenge to pay attention all the way through though. Bernadette is very distracting.
Is this your wife Patrick?
Next time - you can always watch the video again with one or more of the wines.
For some reason I was expecting that you would drive a much nicer car 😆
We have two cars. The other is a fairly new BMW. That said, I love my 27 year old Land Cruiser! It’s terrific for hauling, shopping and driving around vineyards!
@@dr.patfarrellmasterofwine1496 As I told Pat many years ago, prior to buying the BMW a few years back: The Land Cruiser is the best second car ever. People leave notes on his windshield all the time asking if they can buy it.

Thanks for the heads up!
