You could buy a chicken for that price, do whatever you intend to do with it (joint it, cook it whole and strip it for meals) and still have stock from the carcass…nice saving on the coleslaw, though, will go lovely with a bit of beef or corned beef in a sandwich.

Yes, I get a whole chicken so roast chicken dinner, chicken and mushroom risotto, the rest for salad, sandwiches and boil the carcass for stock to freeze. I use tinned mushrooms these days as they're cheap and don't go off

You seriously have no idea how envious I am over your meat prices. I keep telling myself to stop picking up markdowns, but I fear it will be the last I can ever afford. I will not bother you with examples, but if anyone there still thinks our money keeps up with prices, they are mistaken.

In my experience, there is very little that you can't freeze successfully.

@@susanleitch8649 I froze it as mirpoix, so chopped up with onions and carrots as a base for soup. So if you need to preserve it,worked out fine. I fry the mirpoix from frozen when making soup. I blend all my soups, so no ill effects. Maybe an option if you've leftover celery. It keeps well though in water like a bunch of flowers.

In a way I'm quite envious of the markdowns. I rarely see them here in North Central Florida, but our local store doesn't have a lot of nearby competition either. I'm so happy for you. My mom would buy a can of corned beef hash every once in a while and would let my brother and me eat it. I would pour ketchup all over it, and loved it. Nowadays I usually buy my corned beef in a can at Aldi or in a brisket at St. Patrick's Day at Aldi. Thanks for sharing!!

I have it great for meat, We live just outside Toronto Ont Can and just 20 minutes south of us is a Chinese super market . They have had chicken breasts 10 lbs for 29,99 approx 3 dollars cdn a lb. or even less in usa dollars or British dollars . These are boneless skinless breasts, now some are just slices or large pieces, I Usually cut them up for recipes anyway so it doesn't matter . Min is 10 lbs and they like you to buy more. I told a friend and she was very pleased. She wanted 30 lbs. We are eating a lot of chicken.
      HAVE A GREAT DAY

Sliced beef freezes fine. When you defrost it just pat it dry again to remove any excess water. Think of the frozen ready meal roast dinners for example- often they contain sliced roast beef, so freeze no problem.

I've frozen the beef slices before, defrost and warm up in a pan with gravy, add mashed potatoes and veggies to your plate and then the sliced beef, pour over the gravy and it's a nice treat dinner!

Amazing mark downs. I'm really quite envious. Very occasionally you might see few items reduced by 30% in my part of Ireland and our food prices are very high.

I'm always envious when I see Karen's supermarket hauls too. Food is much cheaper in the UK than most of Europe. We're in the Algarve and our visitors are always shocked at the prices we have to pay for food (and I'm far from extravagent and cook lots of meat-free meals). Even our local market is expensive, in fact more so than Lidl, which I wouldn't really class as a discount brand here.

Many years ago I had chosen a 4 day - 10 hour schedule with Wednesdays off. The doctor's office was seldom busy, the stores were stocking up for weekend sales. If I needed to make calls the wait time was usually short.
I've been retired, my office was reducing staff so I took the early out offer.
