I won't lie. The wing isn't there because it looks good. But if you google my name and the word wing or aero you'll see that it's well-thought-out, effective, cheap, and (also important) it unbolts and gets stowed when I'm not on the track.
I think I like this car a lot because it reminds me of how I modified my Miata. It's a 1999, but it has a higher compression bottom end from a 2001, transmission is from a 94, brakes are from the 2004 turbo Miata. My suspension setup is one that I co-developed with a pro shock builder and ended up with something really special. Many of my friends jump around between cars and they always never feel quite right in some way. When you spend a lot of time and are patient when developing a platform and yourself, the results are always much better and more satisfying. I ended up with an absolutely sweet road car that is incredible fun at both track and autocross, too. This is how you do a car right.
I love 911s, but I LOVE that garage! I watch this video every few months...just keep coming back to it, and thinking about it in between. I read the details on the lift somewhere, he got the industrial lift used for like $400 and did all the work himself. Was shocked to learn that all in, it cost him something like $650. That's part of what is so amazing; it's refreshing to see someone put in that much time and effort into making something as perfect as possible. Not throwing money at a problem, applying mind and muscle. #ingenuity
Love this guy, his car and his garage. That relentless iteration is pretty inspiring. I can't imagine too many more fun things than sitting in that garage and geeking out on all the details for several hours. I especially love the fact that Jack has learned to do all the things he wanted to do and then did them. Respect.
The scuff marks at 3:43 the fact that he carries every thing to and from the track in the car he plans on driving on the track. Gotta love that, that's respectable.
My favorite Petrolicious video yet. Jack, I remember being struck by your car the first time I saw it on Rennlist years ago and it remains a high water mark I hope to reach in my own projects one of these days. I didn’t realize until now that the garage I’ve been studying the last year for ideas in setting my own up was put together by the same genius! One of these days when I make the trip from the east coast to the west coast to fulfill more Porsche dreams, I hope to run into you at the track. Keep it up man!
His dedication to the car is so admirable. The thought of continuously perfecting his car and workshop to fulfill multiple duties on and off the track is such a novel idea that I doubt many could actually accomplish.
It wasn't even the best group B car? Why it's so popular? Peugeot 205, Renault 5 maxi turbo, Lancia Delta S4, or rs2000 - they were all better cars. When rivals started to use 4x4 audi was no more competitive.
One of the best 911 video/documentaries I have ever seen. Jack Olsen's passion and dedication are so inspiring. I couldn't even imagine that he is a writer and not a mechanic or something similar. His story makes me feel less afraid about trying new tools of trade and start making things done. Would love to get to know him and work with him... too bad I'm a few thousand miles away from his whereabouts xD This Porsche is much better than the Singer ones. The love and dedication... maybe not as fast or as light, but definitely much more "wantable"...
Everything in this film appeals to me: The 911 itself, obviously, the very trick garage set up and Jack's philosophy on owning a car like this and getting the best from it. Inspirational stuff.
Watching this for the third time… It reinforces the idea that a 911 is a forever type of car, and that you can find satisfaction in mastering and continually improving the one, right car. I have a 964, and I don’t see anything newer that would make me happier automotively.
Being a Porschephile myself, as well as a writer and someone who appreciates beautiful AND functional design, I truly related to the film, car, and Mr. Olsen on many levels. His idea of wanting to further the evolution of both the 911 and his garage into single tools that can do nearly everything well parallels the Porsche philosophy brilliantly. An excellent video!
Sometimes I really think that I was born in the wrong country! Searching the internet, Croatian sites for the Porsche cars (old ones ofc) & there is only one Porsche in Croatia that is selling it's '81 Targa without engine & gearbox, everything else on the car is in real good shape. So the car is missing engine & gearbox, as I could see it was 3.0 with the original 74 000 kilometers. So only way to own a Porsche in Croatia is to buy that one & only Targa that is selling for 24 000€ & try to find engine & gearbox in some other country. I mean 24 000€ for that classic that is selling is not so bad because car is in really good condition, but without 2 most important things. Always watching this Porsche videos & thinking to myself wow I was really born in the wrong country. Love this video, love the garage, love how this guy is talking about his Porsche.. Really love every second of it!! I salute you sir!! p.s. I'm sorry for my english!
I think this has to be one of my all time favourite car/documentaries I've watched. Awesome video, Awesome car and even better garage. Thanks for sharing this!
Everything is a compromise. Mechanically or otherwise. That may sound obvious, but it plays in the physical world (physics...dugh) and the human/emotional one as well (marriage?). What Petrolicious speaks of here cuts both ways. Many who have taken the time to find and watch this video have been bitten by the air cooled bug. I am no exception. I can still remember those many decades ago how I wished for a 911 turbo. I can still vividly remember gazing into that book of exotics and latching onto it, despite the competition. Between repeats of the Rolling Stones,' Jump'in Jack Flash, I knew I would have one someday. Truly, after all I have lived through I did not forget that experience. And from modern media I find I am not the only one. That image, that lust, was so strong that I am now (some forty years later) waiting for delivery of my 600 (whp) 964-based RSR twin turbo. What stirs a man to do such things? To remember an image on paper and pursue it far beyond flesh and its first experience? Ferdinand had no idea...
Me too. It's not just his ingenuity, but the car itself. It's so effin gorgeous! Something about this black 911 with the wide wheelbase. Just pure vintage beauty!
Found this channel today and all i can say is that i love all of these videos. Every single person has such a strong passion for their vehicle; that is what makes a true car enthusiasts. Much respect to this guys garage though.
Man, such a fan of this video for too many reasons to count. An early 911 is my all time dream car and has been for a long time now. I'm hoping to own one myself some day to use in a similar way Jack uses his; pretty much everything. The video is so relatable to me for much more than that though, but mad props to Jack -- a fictional writer by trade -- for taking on all of this on his own without any prior knowledge. Truly motivational and inspiring ✊
THIS GUY IS A BOSS !!! I dont know how I feel after watching this video....Envious? Jealous? I think those feelings are in there somewhere as well as a kinship. Ive ALWAYS wanted a 911...from when I was a young child looking into car windows to see how "fast" they go from their speedometer maximum....and that was a long time ago indeed. Now...somebody somewhere sold one of Steve McQueens 911's and my 911 dream SUDDENLY seemed to go POOF! I will find one someday...not running and ressurect it. THIS GUY DEFINITELY GETS SERIOUS PROPS FROM ME....VERY WELL DONE INDEED
I'm sure he wouldnt want you to be nor jealous nor envious but inspired by his work and passion to move yourself further and harder towards you own 911 :D
What a nice sentiment Marko... I appreciate it very much. Most times on here its people calling you names or somehow fighting with you.... Nice to see some positivity now and again. Well....I wont give up on my 911 ownership dream... I came close...well sort of anyway. I owned repaired, enjoyed and then sold my 2.0L Fuel Injected 73' Porsche 914. So I am indeed getting "closer" Thanks again for the Positivity. Take care
Ah I know that feeling Most od the people here are just flaming eachother and insulting instead of helping one another or ignoring the trolls and morons :) I recently bought myself my first car(honda civic 1992 hatchback) And even though it aint a Porsche I can take the words and the dedication from the video and will apply it to my car :D Let the games begin! Btw my neighbour has an 914(it has unique red/orange color) but it is in a rough shape altough it is nice when he drives it and the engine burbles :) Good luck and good night!
Huh? It sure was a 914 1973 Porsche 914s with the 2.0L Fuel Injected Flat 4. The 73 was actually the one to have aside from the 914-6....which I would still have if it was a 914-6 LOL
I`ve watched this vid about a half dozen times, as well as many others, on Petrolcious. These guys do an awesome job with short stories about people and there cars..........Its a nice change from other vids out there...Thanx
I love this guy he's so intuitive, creating what he needs/wants for his own personal car, as well as his home, he seems like a person who plays a lot of attention to detail and I like that a lot.
I love that it's mixed and matched.. The focus on perfection, matching numbers etc..while nice really detracts from some brilliant cars out there, cars should look, sound and go well.. I think this Porsche does just that.. Kudos to the owner.
Fantastic video documentary. Olsen is well spoken truly focussed man. What a fantastic example of passion, love, science, craftsmanship, and pure enjoyment. A satisfied man in constant pursuit of the action of obtaining perfection.
It's a camera, but not for backing up. It's for shooting in-car footage. There are two more in the cabin. The best audio comes from that camera. I've got a Valentine 1 radar detector, but no laser jammer.
This video give a Huge impressed and inspired of me. I usally have some inner confilcts. ‘ Do I need a practical boring daliy car? ’ He gave me a answer. Thanks a lot.
When this man said he and his 911 play rough together, that’s all I need to know that he’s the real deal. We might have different parents, but we pumped the same race blood
I had a 84 Carrera and it was the best. I drove the hell out of it, all over the southwest. It never broke, every interface was the best I ever encountered. It did it all. Planning on another one soon.
Me too. Only 220 bhp but it seems perform well even against m3s. That’s crazy but what A car. I still think that the 3.2 carrera is a 2.7 rs for the every man 😁.
Another great video from you Petrolicious. Seen this Pelican member's car and garage/man cave many times, and I am equally excited to see here too. Ive seen his race wheels stacked up on roof for the track. Superb!!
You've gone and done what I and many people dream of doing. I'd like to have a humble but highly flexible garage and a single car in it that does many things well. Thanks for the story :)
Most inspirational Jack. It shows that it's never too late to learn new skills and to keep honing any particular skill or object will result in something very special. Much like the rear-engined Porsches :)
Thanks for sharing. It inspires me even more building my own daily driver that I can take it to the track. I love what you done with your garage. A coworker told me about your video. I love it. I enjoyed every second of this video. I would like to meet you one of these days. I hope I ran into your one day and get to see your car in person. Again thank you for sharing!!! :) Peace
Jack Olsen you roll well. Loved the video~! Love the car. Great narration. Clean tools and work-space is what you do when you are not using the garage. Loved the floor lift~! Good use of the space - drop-down tool storage and work surfaces. I am a long-time Porsche fan. I wish I had this one~! Thanks!!!
Bravo, sir. I'm sure you've heard this before but you're living a life I'm trying to create. It sure does look fun. Love the frankenporsche too! I'm a big fan of the 72RS body, but I'd want decent disc breaks and as you've done, better suspension. Classy stuff.
I appreciate drivers that don't focus on the amount of HP the car can produce but rather how the car can use all it's power thru chassis set up. Well done sir,
"horsepower looks good in a magazine article, but suspension is what gets you around the track fast" Very true statement. This is why I hate it when people complain that some cars are underpowered like the older civics and the brz. The aftermarket is there for all of your speed and HP needs but if the chassis is crap and bloated then it's going to handle like crap.
Graduating from Cal Poly SLO, I came through the red light coming from Poly onto High Way 1 and spun a 1967 912. Old Michelin Pilot tires, I over-corrected several times and wound up facing on-coming traffic--which thankfully was still at the red light 100m opposite me. I cracked the rear wheel from hitting the medium. The car that belonged to my GF at the time; a beautiful red car. Around 2004.
Gorgeous car. Love the duck-tail. If it were mine I'd upgrade to a Sharkwerks LED front headlight setup and either a Sharkwerks rear brakelight setup with horizontal red lightbar over the top or cross my fingers and see if Singer would sell me their DSL brakelights. These cars don't need monster hp because they are so light. Their profile will continuously be timeless, strong and beautiful into the future. Better than any Ferrari or Lamborghini. Although I would love to own a restomod Lamborghini 400 GT.
Man this is the 5th time I have seen this video. This guy is a fictional writer? WTF. Sick car and garage. Goes to show people when one has a passion great things happen. Jack my friend, you rock.
I'm pretty sure he won the Best Garage contest at Classic Motorsport Magazine, so he is receiving more prizes to make that garage more awesome. Kudos to you, sir..
This is what you call "making it your own." There are so many purists out there that trash "frankenstein" cars, but the car community is all about diversity and vision. The car community would be pointless if everyone planned on restoring cars to its original form and keeping there. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's refreshing to see people tuning their cars to make them better or stand out more. This Jack guy has a vision for his car and he paid the money, time, blood, sweat, and tears to make it his own. This guy clearly knows what he's doing as he tracks his car and tunes the car himself. That's pretty damn impressive. Keep up the good work my man, I hope to work on a classic Porsche myself one day.
My brother has 2 boxsters. He loves your video. He built them both up the past couple of years. I like to think he got a lot of influence and inspiration from your video.
As soon as they showed a bit of the garage I realized who this was. I followed Jack's garage build on the garage journal. Neat to see a video about his car and his garage.
That's the definition of a car enthusiast and it doesn't mean liking every car produced. But enjoying a particular car that the title says(does it all).
I can fit a 6ft interior door in my old Ford Fiesta. But hey, who needs doors in the house when own an RS lol Side note to Petrolicious. It would have been nice to know the provenance and actual spec of this car at the start of the clip.
Dammmm.. Build my garage for me lol. That's amazingly well organized and thought out. Especially for someone that learned as he went... Madd props to this guy! Ohhh and beautiful car too lol
I won't lie. The wing isn't there because it looks good. But if you google my name and the word wing or aero you'll see that it's well-thought-out, effective, cheap, and (also important) it unbolts and gets stowed when I'm not on the track.
Jack Olsen hey jack, what's the car your mentioned ordering before you got your 911?
Danny Thomas
This was 4 years ago bruh
Jack Olsen
Life goals, be just like Jack Olsen !
Oscar Caruso haha
Any updates on your 911 Mr. Olsen? Any changes since the video, and is it done yet?
I think I like this car a lot because it reminds me of how I modified my Miata. It's a 1999, but it has a higher compression bottom end from a 2001, transmission is from a 94, brakes are from the 2004 turbo Miata. After the years of watching these petrolicious videos, this car remains my favorite and in my opinion one of the best on here.
Thanks you!
Matt don't be fooled by this video it's just smoke and mirrors
Love this guy, his car and his garage. That relentless iteration is pretty inspiring. I can't imagine too many more fun things than sitting in that garage and geeking out on all the details for several hours. I especially love the fact that Jack has learned to do all the things he wanted to do and then did them. Respect.
The 39 people who gave this video a thumbs down are the guys he beat on the track
He might have beaten more than 39
looks like he have beaten 100 by now
Clearly!
The scuff marks at 3:43 the fact that he carries every thing to and from the track in the car he plans on driving on the track. Gotta love that, that's respectable.

Dude, this guy is living my dream life.
my dream is to have a replica of a audi quattro s1 one day i hope the legend of the group b era
It wasn't even the best group B car? Why it's so popular? Peugeot 205, Renault 5 maxi turbo, Lancia Delta S4, or rs2000 - they were all better cars. When rivals started to use 4x4 audi was no more competitive.
Michał 77 no.when audi came whit the quattro in 1980 they won four years the championship whit the that car has the best sounding 4 cilinder engine
+. janissaries It's a 5 cylinder, R5.
r5 does not mean 5 cylinder
One of the best 911 video/documentaries I have ever seen. Jack Olsen's passion and dedication are so inspiring. I couldn't even imagine that he is a writer and not a mechanic or something similar. His story makes me feel less afraid about trying new tools of trade and start making things done.
Would love to get to know him and work with him... too bad I'm a few thousand miles away from his whereabouts xD

Everything in this film appeals to me: The 911 itself, obviously, the very trick garage set up and Jack's philosophy on owning a car like this and getting the best from it. Inspirational stuff.
Note what he says at 5:06 about suspension vs. horsepower. That's a guy who understands.
Amen brother
Looking for any tips on setting up the suspension on my Datsun 280z
@@raw.momentos I upgraded my 1971 240Z suspension with torsion bars- in a 1969 911S-
This man is the epitome of practicality, American resourcefulness and automotive enthusiasm, rock on! I want that garage!
American resourcefulness eh😏😂👍🏻
This video never gets old I have lost Count how many times I’ve watched it
Watching this for the third time… It reinforces the idea that a 911 is a forever type of car, and that you can find satisfaction in mastering and continually improving the one, right car.
This is such an inspirational video. Not only the car, but his calm approach to everything. I’ve never seen a garage like this before. So incredible!
The Garage is as cool as the car.
let's not get crazy
Cooler!
My favorite Petrolicious video. I was wondering why he is so well spoken, and then it made sense when he said he's a writer.
the kind of car love a gear head looks for
Sometimes I really think that I was born in the wrong country!

Jack you are the MacGyver of 911s.
I think this has to be one of my all time favourite car/documentaries I've watched. Awesome video, Awesome car and even better garage. Thanks for sharing this!
This gentleman is a winner.Do it yourself.Everything.
Everything is a compromise. Mechanically or otherwise. That may sound obvious, but it plays in the physical world (physics...dugh) and the human/emotional one as well (marriage?). I always find myself coming back to this video
+MK4KADA ya i've watched it at least 10 times
+jasonren666 yeah nice video.👍
me too... there s something magic about this story that will continue and continue... amazing
Me too. It's not just his ingenuity, but the car itself. It's so effin gorgeous! Something about this black 911 with the wide wheelbase. Just pure vintage beauty!

For the last 7 years, I still go to bed wishing I had a garage/ shop like this. Wonderful passion.

Ah I know that feeling
Most od the people here are just flaming eachother and insulting instead of helping one another or ignoring the trolls and morons :)
I recently bought myself my first car(honda civic 1992 hatchback)
And even though it aint a Porsche I can take the words and the dedication from the video and will apply it to my car :D
Let the games begin!
Btw my neighbour has an 914(it has unique red/orange color) but it is in a rough shape altough it is nice when he drives it and the engine burbles :)
Good luck and good night!
Woops it aint 914 hahhah
I've mistaken it with iold 994(dunno why :/)
Huh? It sure was a 914 1973 Porsche 914s with the 2.0L Fuel Injected Flat 4. The 73 was actually the one to have aside from the 914-6....which I would still have if it was a 914-6 LOL

Man what an admirable man - I want to be like him when I grow up…
This video is timeless. Couldn't tell it was from 2013 until I noticed the dates marked on the comments. Bravo.
I love this guy he's so intuitive, creating what he needs/wants for his own personal car, as well as his home, he seems like a person who plays a lot of attention to detail and I like that a lot.
Footage of spirited driving mixed with classical music is such a beautiful thing, hard to explain but I absolutely love it. Well done!!
This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time.
now recalling some photos i saw on boards in past re: Jack's 911. love that body & gas cap location, etc.thx for posting.
I love that it's mixed and matched.. The focus on perfection, matching numbers etc..while nice really detracts from some brilliant cars out there, cars should look, sound and go well.. I think this Porsche does just that.. Kudos to the owner.
Inspirational, one guy that can do it all.
Fantastic video documentary.
Olsen is well spoken truly focussed man. What a fantastic example of passion, love, science, craftsmanship, and pure enjoyment. A satisfied man in constant pursuit of the action of obtaining perfection.
I have no words, absolutely amazing car. And garage... I have never seen such a great place to work on my car, till now.
kept coming back to watch this vid.. just to listen and enjoy the way Jack drive his Porsche at 5:19.. hopefully this vid gonna hit 1M views
Finally reached 1M
It's a camera, but not for backing up. It's for shooting in-car footage. There are two more in the cabin. The best audio comes from that camera.

i had a picture of this garage for years , now that i see this video by accident its blows me away.. so cool
I love coming back to this video once in a while. Jack you're truly inspirational!
What kind of tires does he have on that? I don't know much about tires, just curious as to why they are so wide?
Another great video from you Petrolicious. Seen this Pelican member's car and garage/man cave many times, and I am equally excited to see here too. Ive seen his race wheels stacked up on roof for the track. Superb!!
You've gone and done what I and many people dream of doing. I'd like to have a humble but highly flexible garage and a single car in it that does many things well. Thanks for the story :)
Still watching in 2020.
Most inspirational Jack. It shows that it's never too late to learn new skills and to keep honing any particular skill or object will result in something very special. Much like the rear-engined Porsches :)
Way to go Jack, I’m now a fan because of your car and your garage ❤
I love the mindset and how he thinks of continuing to iterate on the single notion of developing the perfect 911 from all those that have come before.
Huge respect, real petrolhead who like his car and everything about it. And garage is a beatifull too, such a retro style!👍
:) Peace

Wow guy is motivated in pursuit of his hobby.
Bravo, sir. I'm sure you've heard this before but you're living a life I'm trying to create. It sure does look fun. Love the frankenporsche too! I'm a big fan of the 72RS body, but I'd want decent disc breaks and as you've done, better suspension. Classy stuff.
Fantastic work all around:) Loved everything about all of it. Way to go learn new things and make your life all the better for it.
What a great car. At one point he says "not collectable". How are those 72 prices doing in 2016 :-)
I appreciate drivers that don't focus on the amount of HP the car can produce but rather how the car can use all it's power thru chassis set up.
Around 2004.
... no words ... the car, the Garage , the driver that hold them together ... the DREAM
after seeing that garage this is a true porsche guy. what an awesome video. i loved it
These videos are amazing. I find myself falling in love with cars I never looked twice at because of the cinematography.
Arisgod27 he didn't do it himself he supervised it don't be fooled
Thank you!
I'm pretty sure he won the Best Garage contest at Classic Motorsport Magazine, so he is receiving more prizes to make that garage more awesome. Kudos to you, sir..
This guy is freaking nuts!! I love him, what an amazing car!!!
And the 911 is just that, "Developing that one object perpetually".
What an impressive display of applied creativity.
This was great to watch. This is what it’s all about.
This video is beautiful and this man's garage is beautiful as well. Only 5,500 views? How is this possible? Sharing it now.
Jack, you're a hero! Dream garage and a cool minset for project, got a fan on Brazil for sure!
My brother has 2 boxsters. He loves your video. He built them both up the past couple of years. I like to think he got a lot of influence and inspiration from your video.
Yes. In 1972, the 911 was a very simple design. There was no power steering, no power brakes and rear-wheel drive.
I think I like his garage more than his car. Fantastic job.
Still epic 11 years later.
This is Petrolicious in top form. Even without copious magic hour staging and drone photography.
There is no such thing as perfect. But this car and this garage and a passionate owner.. well provably as pure and close to that mark as it gets.
Love this guy's car and his garage - can't make up my mind which I love the most - he's definetly living the dream.
Wow... what a car, what a man... I truly love 911's but this dude is in another level.
As soon as they showed a bit of the garage I realized who this was. I followed Jack's garage build on the garage journal. Neat to see a video about his car and his garage.
That's the definition of a car enthusiast and it doesn't mean liking every
car produced. But enjoying a particular car that the title says(does it all).
Great short, unbelievable dedication to your craft, well done.
Joe Rogan & Bill Burr brought me here.
I literally listened to that last night, I subscribe to this channel but had missed this one 😅
I can fit a 6ft interior door in my old Ford Fiesta. But hey, who needs doors in the house when own an RS lol
Side note to Petrolicious.
It would have been nice to know the provenance and actual spec of this car at the start of the clip.
The ocd is strong with this one
if i think this is the right kind of ocd it means i have it too?
Great story telling, great camera and of course a fantastic 911!
This guy is an inspiration to all innovative men...true master of all.
that floor lift though 😍
A man after my own heart! Driving my 83 911SC at Barber Speedway and have the same aspiration. Cheers to great minds think alike!
This man is The Sensei. Thank you for this report. It is an inspiration.
I love this video in every possible way. It's 'pure' personal truth. Thank You, Thank You for making it. Kyle.
Pure techinque.
Taking Ideas for my workshop garage from this. Welldone Jason.
Where can one get a decent 911 without 400k miles on it.
Dammmm.. Build my garage for me lol. That's amazingly well organized and thought out. Especially for someone that learned as he went... Madd props to this guy! Ohhh and beautiful car too lol
