I should be getting my espresso frameset tomorrow. This will be replacing my overforked Sworks Epic Evo frameset and will be using all those parts to build this up. Projected to be around 27lb with pedals. Stoked!
I have rode both, the new 34 factory Grip 2, and the new 23’ lyrik. both great forks. The Lyrik is definitely a more heavy duty fork for sure. I may end up trying the 159 lyrik just for fun but I plan on that being a 1-2 ride max deal. haha
So I tried the Fox 36 Factory on it at 150mm. Bike felt great, a lot more numb though. So if you like that the 150 Lyrik will probably feel amazing. But I just switched to the Pike at 140. I think that will be the best of both worlds
@@dialedmtb right on. First few weeks on it with the 150 Lyrik have been great. Rear is a little harsh compared to the Rascal but I’m very happy. Once I can put my ElevenSix on there I’m sure it’ll be perfect. In the process of switching out the XX1 for transmission. Outside of that I’m very happy I made the switch to the Smuggler
If it was me, I would get the new Ripmo for sure. But I only put about 250-300 miles on this bike. It stayed quiet for me though. I could see it getting louder after a lot of use though.
I’ll try to touch on that! Just finished the build, but sadly the weather here is not working out great so the trails are all closed right now. Hoping to be able to ride this weekend possibly!
Absolutley rad bike! I'm trying to figure out how to build one up myself haha. On the topic of wheel spec it makes sense to spec with the Synthesis alloy 1/1 on a bike with dpx2, and Code RSC's and a Assegai up front haha. I get what you're saying though. Nice to have the option to build the Smuggler up super light or more burly if you want to. How tall are you, and what size did you get? Happy shredding bro! -shuttleboi
Yeah dude it should be a sweet bike! But yeah not a bad wheel spec, just more saying that the Spur is the same price with a wheel-set that retails for close to $1500 more then the one spec’d on this bike in the same build. I know the suspension is a little more expensive on this bike but yeah that’s all I was trying to get it. But I’m 5’8 and got a medium. Thanks though man, let’s go ride soon!
Man I’m not liking the builds but I love the frame !! I’ve never built a bike from the frame set before. Is there any way I could get some guidance ? That’d be great. I just need some help with picking the small parts.
@@dialedmtb I don’t have any parts but I get great deals through the company that I currently work for. So building a great bike shouldn’t be a problem. My budget is probably around $5600. The frame alone is $3957. I just need some help picking out some of the parts. Im not too savvy when it comes to that. So that’s why some help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve probably seen this video around 10-20 times in the last few days. This bike is definitely on my radar.
Okay cool! so for drive train I would go with Shimano XT or SRAM X01 (not GX, I think X01 feels quite a bit better but if GX is in your price then I’d prefer XT). For cranks if you go XT you can go with XT or get some Raceface Next R carbon (those are on good clearance right now) for SRAM you could do the GX aluminum or X01 carbon, then get the bottom bracket to match.. For brakes I would go with Magura MT5 or MT7 depending on what fits in your budget, they are both great! Or if you’re on a budget for brakes you could always go with Shimano SLX 4 piston, those are also amazing. I’d go with OneUp carbon bars and OneUp 42.5mm stem. For the dropper I’d spend some extra money on and get the BikeYoke. If you want to cut costs on the dropper go with PNW or OneUp. Then for the wheelset Industry Nine has a big clearance right now so their carbon 1/1 wheelsets are super rad or I would go with the WeAreOne wheelset in the 28 or 30mm internal width. For a fork I’d get the Grip2 140mm Fox 34 or the Pike Ultimate RC3. I will be switching to the pike shortly.
@@dialedmtb sweet ! Thanks for your help man ! I’ll look at the websites tomorrow and I’ll take a look at the prices. I’ll order the frame tomorrow. I was thinking about either getting this one or the new Hightower. Did you like that one ?
The new Hightower is rad for sure, but I do have mine up for sale because I think it will be too similar to the smuggler. It will be more plush than the smuggler I think and climb almost as good. It is a super cool bike but like I said, I don’t need both haha
That’s tough, but for me I’d go with the Smuggler. I’m expecting a new Ripley in another year or so and at that point that might bump past it but still probably the Smuggler.
So I personally don’t even think that’s really an update. They just had to change it to make it UDH compatible because from the Rumors SRAM is going to a derailleur that requires UDH.
Agreed, problem is now I have to wait another 1-2 years for the Ripley I might like or buy the Smuggler now that ticks a lot of boxes. Demo pending of course
I wish the weather near me would cooperate! I haven’t rode the Smuggler yet. With that said I do expect them to be pretty similar, but I expect the smuggler to descend better and the Stumpy to climb better. Not sure if that will be the case but it’s what I’m guessing.
What up Shane! It’s Eli, if you are ever in San Diego and wanna rode hit me up. +1 on not running sram brakes haha. I’m spoiled running my Braking brakes on my kenevo turbo SL
Dude hope you’ve been well! I might actually be down that way in October! I’ll definitely let you know! But yeah I am not a big SRAM brake fan lol. Not at all.
Yeah the smuggler definitely is not one of Transitions good value bikes.. that’s for sure. It was a bummer for me when I saw the build specs and the prices of them.
@@tinshield Don't forget that generation of Stumpy is now 3 years old and will be replaced this year. Also the flex stay vs proper horst link and a piggy back shock vs inline. Not quite apples to apples.
Man the weather has not been working for me. I will be finally riding it this weekend at the latest! So hoping to have the video put out on Sunday but it just depends on the weather. The trails here are unridable when it’s wet which is a bummer.
@@dialedmtb hahahahaha. I thought it said 6 days ago. Not 6 months ago. Hope you like it. I love mine. Ride it more than my sentinel. Won some $$. So I got both 2023 models. Smuggler and sentinel. Sold off 4 bikes. Now just those 2 and my canyon stoic.
Silver Pike !!!! Gotta love the gray forks.
Yeah the silver should be rad!!
I should be getting my espresso frameset tomorrow. This will be replacing my overforked Sworks Epic Evo frameset and will be using all those parts to build this up. Projected to be around 27lb with pedals. Stoked!
Dang that will be rad! Crazy light for this bike
I keep thinking I’m watching Vince Vaughan! Nice vid BTW , sick looking frame
Hahaha well hopefully that’s a good thing? lol but thank you! the bike has been rad!
I sold my Ripley V4. Not enough travel. Great bike though. This is kinda what I want now! So nice!
Oh yeah this would be a great option from trying to go up a little from the Ripley! Won’t climb as well but should descend quite a bit better
I was saving for a spur so a comparison between the two would be cool.
Okay awesome! Thanks for the input! I will try to get that fit in on the first ride video!
Looking forward to seeing your ride review! Curious if anyone is thinking about this with a mullet setup 🤔
I personally don’t have any urge to try mullet on it, but that’s just me. I’m sure someone will have it setup with that soon out there.
I’m thinking about throwing my 150 Lyrik ‘23 on the Smuggler but I agree with you, the weight and rave reviews of the new 34 are enticing at 140.

Thanks man! 🤙🏼
You should build it with the Pike from the start! I can't wait to see it in the dirt!
I thought about that, but I was able to get the Fox 34 a little bit quicker! haha
What the trick to getting the cable housings in? I got the seat cable housing in with a coat hanger but I can't figure out the back.
You have to take out the lower pivot bolt and I ran it from the back to the front. That was easier for me, but it sucks no matter what.
Are you going to try out the 130 link for the arrival?
Honestly I don’t see much of a reason. The bike climbs so good as is, and the bike wouldn’t lose much weight at all.
No that it’s been a year - is the smuggler loud on trails? I have seen other videos where people say it
raddled . Torn between this and Ripmo
If it was me, I would get the new Ripmo for sure. But I only put about 250-300 miles on this bike. It stayed quiet for me though. I could see it getting louder after a lot of use though.
Your thoughts about how it stacks against SB130, reach wise.
