Best MTB Flat Pedal Out There | The Search!
You’re the only person to ever say the switchblade is slow, not poppy or playful.
Transition told me 130 Fork is fine and a lot of people do it!! I’m considering putting a pike ultimate on the front at 130mm
Do you still have this bike? Does the shock bottom out frequently?
I never understood why there was this, premium image with Fox suspension. Over and over again I hear people rave the Lyrik over the 36 when it comes to people who’ve ridden both… My Lyrik Ultimate rides sooo buttery and supportively for how it does that. That said I just bought a Fox 36 off a guy for cheap to try out and it just doesn’t feel quite as good. Funny thing is the dude was selling it, brand new take off because he put a Lyrik Ultimate on instead…
how is the fit of the crankbrothers are they narrow and true to size?
Love the videos man! Would love to see some B roll footage of the bikes while you’re talking about them. Would really make a nice connection
😢 vreau și eu una
Dude, I’m sorry, but you’re not making any sense. If you look at the transmission differences, you’re comparing t type transmission to an older non-t type transmission. That’s the differences right there in performance when climbing and why the heck is the video so dark I mean, what is going on this video.
Nice review. How tall are you ? It would help as a reference since you were riding a medium. I'm looking at the Spur but in between sizes at 5'7"
What flat pedals do you ride? I have stamp 7 pedals and rock 5/10s. Thinking about getting the CBs
Im late to the party but I believe part of the reason for the arrivals composure is the 157 rear spacing. The bike is super stiff. My pivot is the same way. You notice it most on off camber sections and at speed.
Is it worth go go from trance x 1 2021 to this bike
I’ve never rode a Trance X, but I know this bike is really good so I do not think you would be disappointed at all.
I have a 2023 Instinct C30 and I love it. The cornering/climbing is one of the best in its category bc it has a longish chainstays. That is also why it is less poppy on trails without lipped jumps. I also upgraded my bike with a Pike Ultimate 150 from the Marzocchi Z2 150 and I put 2 spacers in the Fox DPS. I have ridden Stumpjumpers and Enduros for 20+ years and the RM is a way better bike. Nice review.
with 160mm travel i would take a zeb
Great video. I'm thinking of a pair of Crankbrothers. Is the sizing accurate? Thank you
What single track area is this?
You should get a norco fluid fs to review
Hey, late to the party here… Have you run the smuggler 140mm rear option? If so, how’d that go? Have you been on that smuggler still? Still love it long term? The frame price has dropped and I’m thinking of pulling the trigger. I’d run it 150/140mm front/rear with a 36 and try and get that downhill build popping. Thoughts??
I have the old Optic and old Sight and just got the new Sight and my mind was blown. It rides like a much bigger bike but still poppy like it's supposed to be at that travel. Made me wonder what this Optic was like and sounds like it's the same. Should be a rad bike for bulk flow trail laps!
Just picked one up. Aint got to test it on my local houston trails. Demo rode one at spyder mtn. and was insane. so ya. lol.
5:52, yeah they need to include washer spacers for crank boots
On those I have the silver spacers from Raceface that are thicker then the SRAM black ones that are thinner. Use one of each.
There must be something wrong with my new bike, or it's set up incorrectly. It's so firm that it feels like a hardtail! I'm a heavier rider, and the shock that came on the eMTB had a 0.9 spacer in 160 mm of travel. However, I need 260 psi to get 30% sag, making it very stiff. I don't have much of a choice here until I shed some weight and start again. But honestly, I think I'll have to put in a smaller spacer since I'm only using 75% of the travel, according to the O-ring. I have heard the magic spacer for the float x is the 0.6 and up to 0.7 mo more mo less so this is my next move
Maybe try going to a little larger of a spacer with less PSI in the shock? That should help with small bump compliance but still give you bottom out support.
What range do you get
Honestly, it's been a long time since I have had this bike. But from what I remember on trail mode I would get about 4500-5k in elevation. I didn't pay much attention to miles because that changes so much with terrain. Seemed like elevation was more of an accurate thing to base how long it would last on
A S-Works Stumpy 2023, top notch mounted at 50% sale or a SB120? The stumpy would be the half price of the SB120!! I am coming from a 2017 INTENSE ACV so I think I will not be disappointed both ways..but I could be poorer 😂
Dang that is tough! The Sb120 will climb better than the Stumpy for sure. They have some crazy deals on SB120's right now also though, have you seen any of those? What build of SB120? The 2023 SWORKS comes with XX1 AXS correct? Not XX Transmission? Overall the stumpy is more well rounded in case you need to ride a little bit of a tougher trail, it won't feel as overwhelmed. But the SB120 will climb faster and still be a blast to descend on!
@@dialedmtb Sworks with Fox 36 factory grip2, float X, Roval carbon wheels, Reverb AXS, X0 AXS at 5500€ (I think it’s a clour of 2022 actually, forgotten somewhere in Specialized workshop) Sb120 T3 8990€ in Italy. I prefer Yeti but I will sweat a little bit more on climbing but because of my heavy wallet on my back 😂
Best drunk review I've seen in awhile
hahah glad you enjoyed it
Watch your dang language!
What do you mean?
No new content for the summer?
I have some videos I need to get edited. I just have a lot of other things going on so it's taking away from my video editing time.
Weird thing with the grip on the Stamp 7. I use Stamp 2 myself (Large size), and grip is the least of my worries. Hard to actually move your foot once you have settled in.
Yeah it is weird, I expected a lot more out of the Stamp 7's!
Coming from the Megatower I wanted to step down to more efficient pedaling bike like the Tallboy or the SB120 and heard the Tallboy wasn’t a good climber with disappointed me as a Santa Cruz fan that wanted one. But maybe those people were just referring to the V4 and seems the minor change to the V5 improves the climbing ? Would you still recommend the Tallboy ? I also see Competitive Cyclist has amazing deals on the SB120 right now. Can get an X01 AXS SB120 for 5999 whereas that same build would be thousands more on the Tallboy. However I’m willing to look at an S build and do some mods here and there over time. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks !!!
Hey! Both are awesome bikes, it all depends on how you have the bike built. I have this tallboy built up at about 27lbs right now and it climbs amazing. Yes you can put heavier wheels and tires on it and it climbs more like a 140mm trail bike but then it also descends like a bike in that category also. The SB120 will climb a little bit better, but descend a little worse. Not worse really in a bad way just as in the rear end doesn't feel as plush as the tallboy. It is amazing what SC has done with the TB for 120mm of rear travel. Yeti and SC are my two favorite brands. I think that SC has the better 120mm bike, and I think Yeti has the better Enduro bike. So my two bikes that I currently own are a Tallboy and SB160, if that helps at all.
i have 3 big ticket pedals , the diety TMAC , the DMR Vaults and currently the raceface Atlas . i think i love the Vaults the best , followed very very closely by TMAC and last is Atlas . IT's not liike the Atlas is shid , its not , i just find it TOO GRIPPY that i cannot reposition my foot once i step on . the vaults i feel you get grip when you want it , and very little grip when you dont want it the Tmac feels alright i did have once a pedal flip on me and nearly shinned me ....probably my lack of technique
You have the new Atlas pedals? Yeah they are very grippy. I ride clips and flats so the super grippy is what I might tend to lean towards for flat pedals because of that. They are ALL good pedals though!
Is this trail in cali?
No this is in Idaho
No that it’s been a year - is the smuggler loud on trails? I have seen other videos where people say it raddled . Torn between this and Ripmo
If it was me, I would get the new Ripmo for sure. But I only put about 250-300 miles on this bike. It stayed quiet for me though. I could see it getting louder after a lot of use though.
8:20 yep that’s the long and short of it for me… FR pros and Stamps are both close until then
Did you ever make the updates to the Tallboy? Did you release that update video?
I did make all the updates, I thought I released that video but I would have to check. If not I will try to get that out this summer! Been a very busy summer for me so I have not been able to much video editing
اجمل عجله في الكون كله حبيبتي
Yeah it is!
I just picked one up for $500 and I look forward to trying it out. I paired it with the GX AXS kit and I really like how clean the bike is now with only the brake hoses.
Yeah it is definitely very clean!!
Tbh I wish someone would do a review on this bike hitting big jumps and showing what it's capable of doing
I mean Jackson Goldstone has some videos on the hightowers little brother the Tallboy and he is doing more than 99% of what anyone else can do on that thing. So I am sure the Hightower can outperform most.
@@dialedmtb just look up Jackson goldstone tall boy
Where can I get those shoes
Haha what shoes are they?
Hey man. I've really been interested in the Arrival. I see you went with the med, how tall are you?
I am just over 5'8"
Nice reviews. A couple of thoughts on how you could improve your content. You clearly have a lot of experience on these bikes. It would be helpful if you would provide context on how you like to ride and your trails you are testing on. The next step to help your viewers is to describe which types of trails best suit each bike. Instead of just giving us numbers for climbing, descending, etc., how about describing what about these characteristics differentiated it from the other bikes on test. Also best to describe how you got along with the bike in terms of fit and components. If the fit or components weren’t to your liking or were setup exactly how you like it that will dramatically change your perspective on any bike. You’re going to hate any bike that feels too big or too small, brakes you aren’t comfortable with, uncomfortable saddle, bars too wide or too barrow, etc.
Thank you for the feedback! I think about a lot of that stuff but it is so hard to get everything in a video that everyone wants to know without each video being 30-40 minutes! But I do appreciate the input! Thank you!
I just picked one up. So just set the front and rear sag to 25% for best climbing setting ?
I would mess around with it for sure, you might like something different than I do. Try the rear at 25-35%. The front I would not have as much sag as you do in the rear, it will be way too soft.
Just ordered a ripmo. Thanks for the input on our local trails!
Of course! Hope you're loving it!
Anvl pedals. Search over lol
Heard great things about those as well!
we have the same helmet, bike, and shoes. Great minds think alike.
Haha that is awesome!
Man you are raving about how plush the rear end is, Ive just not had the same experience with my 5010 with similar if not the same VPP suspension
Dang that is weird, I had the last 27.5 5010 and it was pretty dang good too. What rear shock is on yours?
how does it compare to tallboy v5 you've reviewed recently in terms of overall ride?
Me personally, I like the TB better. Climbs a lot better and descends well. The Optic is a fun bike but the rear end feels like a 150-160mm rear end with a 140mm front end. Not quite as balanced as I would like. It is super fun but I just don't think you get enough out of it for its climbing capabilities
Hi, I hope you make more videos soon!
Thank you! I have been super busy, should get more out soon!
@@dialedmtb Didn't happen lol
How did you like this compared w the 150?
Honestly it feels quite a bit different. The rear end is more plush, the bike feels a little more comfortable (to me for sizing) only thing it is very similar on is climbing.
Maybe a Pivot 429 trail would be a better choice.
I have only heard great things!!
Two bikes I'm looking at.. thanks for the comparison. What area are you riding in? Looks fun!!
Can't go wrong with either one! But I am in Boise, Idaho!
