  • Neck Circles - Slowly roll your head through the following positions:
    - Chin to chest
    - Ear to shoulder
    - Back of head to your back
    - Ear to shoulder
    - Chin to chest
    move slowly.

    Try searching the internet - there are numerous pages saying that this exercise is a really, really bad idea. You are irresponsible to be demonstrating it, and encouraging it.

      Earlier in my career I avoided instruction in this movement thinking that it could cause injury. Similarly, squats were commonly considered a risky exercise and avoided by many people, but we now know with evidence that they are a fundamentally important movement. I have treated patients for 40 years including many people who were injured while exercising. I've never had a patient who injured themselves performing the neck roll. It is an exercise performed commonly in yoga. Performed smoothly and very slowly as demonstrated, I believe it has a useful purpose. I'm aware of no evidence that indicates people injure themselves performing this exercise properly, though I can appreciate where the consideration comes from. -Billy Cioffredi
