Absolute brilliance. Gives me goose bumps and conjures up the same joy I felt listening to Blind Faith....a masterpiece album by 4 musicians who had a rare chemistry at that place in time....and an unfortunate destiny to be way too short-lived. Those 2 working together = PURE MAGIC.
Amazing how great Steve's voice is at age 62. What a shame Steve and Eric didn't collaborate on more albums. Especially since they have been good friends since the 60's.
I'm really not sure that I can believe what I've just watched! Is it really possible for these two geniuses to play such extraordinary music? Or am I dreaming? Amazing.
Linoge Z So what you're saying is that the ageing process has nothing to do with ageing? Yes its a muscle, but they atrophy with age. No matter how much use they get. Contemporaries like Stewart and Plant have half the range and effectiveness they once had.
nobody needs that magazine to realize that Steve Winwood is an outstanding artist, composer, and musician. and that his talent as a singer is a gift from God.
Saw Stevie in Charlotte, NC (2016) when he opened for Steely Dan (just before Walter Becker died)....what an amazing night! He still sounds the same as when I heard him play with Traffic back in the 60's....amazing voice and talented musician...one of my all time favorites hands down.
The 70's had the best bands and thankfully most of them are still playing the music. Our generation is thinning out, but the music will remain the same. Just like history, you can't change it.
The real shame is that Blind Faith did just one album. That album is so special, wonderful, and transcendental, one can only wonder what other timeless masterpieces the group could have produced.
I think God turned the Angels loose in the 60s and their still here and they weep because Legends like these two will grow old and pass and so will I. Thank You God for all the wonderful music.
@115599825064418614912 Yep. That's one of the reasons Stephen Stills wanted to invite him to join up with him, Crosby and Nash. Winwood is so great on keyboards that everyone forgets how great a guitar player he is as well. He and Stills could have switched off on guitar and keyboards easily and they could have had some tasty jams on guitars. However, Winwood was already committed to Blind Faith and that ended that dream.
When you hear god's slowhand on fire on 3:30, you just smile naturally, that is the thing to happen... I love Eric's timing on guitar, good sense, who can do that so easily...
so manu are surprise that Winwood could play guitar so well. All they had to do is listen to him on Traffic's Mr. Fantasy Lp 1967 when he played lead on Dear Mr. Fantasy. I knew in 1967 that he was already so awesome! His was one of the best lead riffs ever for that song! And if you include his better than most others vocals on "Dear Mr. Fantasy" 1967 you'll know that only Steve Winwood could only sing it as he did! He has been the best blues rock vocalist for the last 50 years? starting with "Gimme some lovin" in 1966 as a member of the Spencer Davis Group which he wrote and sang at 16 yrs. of age!
Love this! Thanks for the memories, guys, and for all the great music; and thanks for uploading this for our enjoyment -- nice, crisp sound and excellent video! These guys are from my generation of incomparable talent -- when really excellent soulful sound and music was alive!
One of the best things about this is that the real promise of the combination of incredible talents that Blind Faith could have been at the time is fully realized, especially in the joint solos at the end. Clapton and Winwood play guitar together so effortlessly and compliment each other so perfectly--just superb!
After I considered Clapton like shit ...Now I understand better the sensibility of his game after reading his past life.Thank you to RUclips allows me to see what he did with all those artists he invited to the right and left in the world ...Great guy & his career and respect for him! PS: Do not forget that his master (he says) is JJ Cale He must have 67 years, 63 years .... I
Steve Gadd...one of the greatest drummers in the world and knowing to be true to the song and not flashy...lost art! Most Metal drummers would be double pedal rolling thru this looking for attention.
well you got to remember that was drugs and they were still in the process of just finishing an album and not really having toured. that was her first concert at Hyde Park they never played live together all four of them.
Hahaha im not sure ginger was dead when they did this but if he was behind on the drums....this song would have never ended. Wish he was on this set. RIP bad ass baker P.s love erics slow old man march getting his steps in!🤣
Stevie is outstanding! To still sing like that you gotta give the man credit!! We’ve all seen scores of older rock stars that should just give it up. Not this guy!!!
Both Winwood and Clapton are still going strong to date (2016), each now in the 53rd year of their musical careers which began in 1963!!! God Damn! What a musical legacy spanning those years!! Man, I've loved their music all along that span. More power to 'em, I say!!! Whoo-fukn-whoo!!!
I agree with so many of the comments on here, Steve sounds incredible. I also just love how much these legends seem to be having just a great time together on stage.
I highly recommend the album this song came from. The studio version of 'Had to Cry Today' is headphone ear candy. One of the finest 2 lead guitar jams you will ever hear. By that I mean Steve in one ear and Eric in the other. On the other album cuts Steve is usually on keyboards - he remains a vocal, multi-instrument, and composing prodigy.
Actually, Steve was supposed to join Creem and auditioned for them just before they broke up for good, Blind Faith was the result....The Ultimate Super Group I was absolutely blown away when I saw Steve Winwood at Humphrey's in San Diego play Crossroads on the guitar; it sounded like Creem, always thought of him as a keyboard artist but he is a hell of an Axe player!
Steve Gadd is a great drummer but for some reason he just can't play ginger baker's drum parts. In fact he's a more skilled drummer, maybe by far. But any time Clapton's band plays a song from cream or blind faith the drums just sound...goofy and lacking.
This drummer is good but, this song isn't quite the same without Ginger Baker's groove to carry it along. Great performance, nonetheless! Thanks for sharing.
a band with Clapton, Winwood, and Ginger Baker would have been great. nevertheless i'm sure the guys from blind faith were impressed with Clapton and Winwood's cover.
Thanks Bro...This made me laugh out loud...Amazing how narrow Rock & Roll listeners sonic palettes are...Steve Gadd..maybe the greatest modern drummer!!!
Of course Gadd is great, but that doesn't mean he's playing anything very interesting here. :) What Ginger has, above all, is *personality* in his playing. And that's what's missing here. But hey, Winwood and Clapton sound great, so it's all good.
ORIGINAL( MAY BE A LITTLE ROUGH) ALWAYS THE BEST ; STILL "HANGING ON TIGHT TO MY "THRONE-LOST THE CASTLE 12 YRS AGO-""U R THE REASON IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG, WAITING FOR THE KEY,WAITING & I CANT FIND MY WAY HOME"(THEY TOOK IT AWAY ON A DOLLY)
This isn't just 2 old rockers playing a song from the 60's - this is music making as good as it gets.
Yes.
Fantastic music fantastic voice
So good 👍❤️👋❤️❤️❤️❤️👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
Absolute brilliance. Gives me goose bumps and conjures up the same joy I felt listening to Blind Faith....a masterpiece album by 4 musicians who had a rare chemistry at that place in time....and an unfortunate destiny to be way too short-lived. Those 2 working together = PURE MAGIC.
Amazing how great Steve's voice is at age 62. What a shame Steve and Eric didn't collaborate on more albums. Especially since they have been good friends since the 60's.
Age is just a number.
Live @MSG is one of my favorite LP's with these two.
Awesome. No other way to describe this. Fascinating to see Eric as second fiddle to Steve, Confirms how humble Eric is.
Self effacing ,and SECURE.
No, Stevie is just in a class all his own, although Eric has that unique clean and blues guitar sound!
i bought a fender guitar less than 2 months ago and this was the second song i learned to play, i just love it :-)
I'm really not sure that I can believe what I've just watched! Is it really possible for these two geniuses to play such extraordinary music? Or am I dreaming? Amazing.
It's what geniuses do.
Yes believe it. The world has see this talent unlike today's group of fools
wow ........tasteful to the max , style and grace . two greats
The fact that Winwood still has his vocal range at his age is unreal!
Andy Thomas still great range -perhaps a fraction of an octave less which at his age is oustanding
+Andy Thomas If you train your vocal, sing losely and sing naturally and aren't trying to copy somebody else's voice/range then it is quite normal :D
+Andy Thomas it has nothing to do with age, its all in how much practice he does. Its a singin MUSCLE after all.
Linoge Z So what you're saying is that the ageing process has nothing to do with ageing? Yes its a muscle, but they atrophy with age. No matter how much use they get. Contemporaries like Stewart and Plant have half the range and effectiveness they once had.
Andy Thomas All I said, as long as they kept practicing, they dont lose their voice.
Winwood was named by Rolling Stone as "ONE OF THE BEST MALE VOCALISTS EVER."
I don't need a rag like RS to tell me something that's self evident
Ever and ever and ever and still today. And plays the hell out of a guitar, especially since he's a keyboard player.
Steve should be named as ALL OF THE BEST VOCALISTS EVER. Thanks, Stevie, see You soon. -Smythie
nobody needs that magazine to realize that Steve Winwood is an outstanding artist, composer, and musician. and that his talent as a singer is a gift from God.
👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
The fact that these to brilliant musicians can solo on top of each other shows they check their egos at the door! Just brilliant!
Clapton is so f***ing brilliant. He plays guitar with the same effort that it takes me to tie my shoes!
seeing them play this live was a revelation!
Steve Windwood is one of the best singer's and musicians ever.
Man been getting into clapton for the past 1 or 2 years and i just found out about this album. Fucking gold
Windwood is absolutely amazing. One of if not the most underrated talent and performer in the history of rock and pop music.
The 70's had the best bands and thankfully most of them are still playing the music. Our generation is thinning out, but the music will remain the same. Just like history, you can't change it.
That smile on Eric’s face at the end is priceless. Two friends challenging each other and making fun. Thanks for this great musical moment.
I don't like long duo guitar solos, but this one still sends shivers up my back
Of course.
it is the crossroads GUITAR festival
It could last 4 hours and be the best. It's Stevie and Clapton.
Steve Winwood is amazing. He sounds even better than on the original recording some 40+ years later.
Like my Baby, just gets finer with age.
Steve Winwood is one of the greatest vocalists of all time!
The real shame is that Blind Faith did just one album. That album is so special, wonderful, and transcendental, one can only wonder what other timeless masterpieces the group could have produced.
Outstanding! At the very end...Winwood and Clapton knew they killed it!
No one will ever replace all of them, they are terrific, God Bless all of them, keep it up guys!
Legends.....UK Treasures.....🎤🎤🎸🎸🎹🔥💪👊
I think God turned the Angels loose in the 60s and their still here and they weep because Legends like these two will grow old and pass and so will I. Thank You God for all the wonderful music.
they were born to make music together
Damn, Winwood can hold his own with Slowhand. That's as good as it gets, right there.
Yep! Winwood is is a badass
@115599825064418614912 Yep. That's one of the reasons Stephen Stills wanted to invite him to join up with him, Crosby and Nash. Winwood is so great on keyboards that everyone forgets how great a guitar player he is as well. However, Winwood was already committed to Blind Faith and that ended that dream.
+Greg Bolles~ Clapton had to keep up~
Steve's class whatever instrument he picks up, superb muso!
Damn, yes! I was listening without watching and thought for sure the solo was Clapton, then I looked and it was Winwood. Superb!
DAMN!!! Steve is bringing it on the guitar!
I love Stevie Winwood!
2 of the greatest ever,what a sound!!!
When you hear god's slowhand on fire on 3:30, you just smile naturally, that is the thing to happen... I love Eric's timing on guitar, good sense, who can do that so easily...
My two favorite ❤
greatest singer of all time look here 62 years old sounds just as good as 40 years ago.
I listened to the original recording, and his voice is actually better here-rounder!
they're like the amazing guitar twins!
Two giants! Thanks for this video!
It doesn't get any better than this!
Willie Weeks!!! Love how Willie joins in the solo at about 3:28 and then Winwood looks over at him and grins.
The lyrics reflect what is happening this very moment in America. Had to cry today.
so manu are surprise that Winwood could play guitar so well. All they had to do is listen to him on Traffic's Mr. Fantasy Lp 1967 when he played lead on Dear Mr. Fantasy. I knew in 1967 that he was already so awesome! His was one of the best lead riffs ever for that song! +ashley a My introduction to Winwood as a guitar player was the '65 UK B Side of Somebody Help Me. Stevies Blues pre dates The Beano album!
Love this! Thanks for the memories, guys, and for all the great music; and thanks for uploading this for our enjoyment -- nice, crisp sound and excellent video! These guys are from my generation of incomparable talent -- when really excellent soulful sound and music was alive!
masters watch and learn you young muscians please.
Steve winwood was so under rated. He is class.
From what I’ve heard he’s pretty humble and nice to fans too. Clap is a little snobby.
I agree 100% he dont take a back to anyone ! I forgot how well he can make fender strat talk Clapton knows it also ... peace
@@jbelden36 I seen Clapton a dozen times always humble never snobby! Him and winwood I'm MSG was amazing ijs
Winwood's talent is legendary. Hardly underrated.
That distinctive Steve Winwood voice!
One of the best things about this is that the real promise of the combination of incredible talents that Blind Faith could have been at the time is fully realized, especially in the joint solos at the end. Clapton and Winwood play guitar together so effortlessly and compliment each other so perfectly--just superb!
Loved Blind Faith so much - one of my favorite albums of all time.
My fav Blind Faith song!
After I considered Clapton like shit ...Now I understand better the sensibility of his game after reading his past life.Thank you to RUclips allows me to see what he did with all those artists he invited to the right and left in the world ...Great guy & his career and respect for him!
PS: Do not forget that his master (he says) is JJ Cale
He must have 67 years, 63 years .... I
Che artisti !!!!
Didn’t know Stevie Winwood was such an accomplished guitarist!
He started when he was 16. Recorded give me some living with the Spencer Davis Group.
You’re not alone. A lot of people don’t
blew my mind at 15 when saw reformed trio Traffic in 70, when he was playing a lime green Gibson Firebird.
Fuck, dat steve winwood solo is amazing!
Wasn't this on the Blind Faith studio album? That album with Winwood, Clapton, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech?
Clapton: Mozart on a Stratocaster. Steve Windwood is awesome and inspired by Clapton to getting it just perfect.
I preferred him on the Tele in the Hyde park concert, I also think he was out of his face then, as was I, stupidly I thought it was going on forever.
Steve Gadd...one of the greatest drummers in the world and knowing to be true to the song and not flashy...lost art! Most Metal drummers would be double pedal rolling thru this looking for attention.
Just watched the 1969 Blind Faith at Hyde Park version,Clapton seemed almost disinterested but still brilliant.
well you got to remember that was drugs and they were still in the process of just finishing an album and not really having toured.
that was her first concert at Hyde Park they never played live together all four of them.
Steve Gadd. Master!
Masters of their craft!
I saw Traffic at Middle Earth in the spring of '68 during my Junior Year Abroad in England. Loved the show, loved England!
'69 Hyde Park, England a bit run down now mate
Steve can play a pretty mean guitar, very nice!
And note that you can say that when he's playing next to Clapton. So, yeah.
Winwood scares me to death, he must be a monster
Steve Winwood kicks ass in this song, Had to Cry. Awesome! ♡ Love this!
Crossroads is a lot of awesomeness!😅💝 Love this recording ! Great music!
3:33 Winwood feeling nostalgic and Clapton coming out of the solo is awesome...
Hahaha im not sure ginger was dead when they did this but if he was behind on the drums....this song would have never ended. Wish he was on this set. RIP bad ass baker
P.s love erics slow old man march getting his steps in!🤣
Stevie is outstanding! To still sing like that you gotta give the man credit!! We’ve all seen scores of older rock stars that should just give it up. Not this guy!!!
Winwoods voice is so powerful. He ain't even that close to the mic and it's in yer face!
Blind Faith is my favorite band of any genre, and "..Cry Today
favorite song. Does my soul good to see 'em up there doing their thing, as they should.
Agreed - Blind Faith at the top of my list and such a pity they broke up so quickly.
Absolutely fabulous compilation of true great musicians! Thank you for putting these together and sharing!
This song is ageless and timeless. It will sustain throughout the endless cosmos for ages to come.
Blind Faith was definitely a supergroup, despite releasing only album. All the songs on that album, including this one, are classics.
bob dylan 30th anniverary concert is the best ever assembled, but this is great too
Absolutely ❤❤❤
If anyone doesn't like this song then they don't know what music is Eric Clapton Steve winwood My God
Both Winwood and Clapton are still going strong to date (2016),
each now in the 53rd year of their musical careers which began
in 1963!!! God Damn! What a musical legacy spanning those years!!
Man, I've loved their music all along that span. More power to 'em, I say!!!
Whoo-fukn-whoo!!!
Clapton’s solo is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree completely! WOW! The dueling guitars at the end also! Just fabulous!
It doesn't get any better than that.
That wasnt polished. That was spit shined to a high gloss.
There are twin lead guitars here because there are twin lead guitars on the Blind Faith record of this tune.
Think of it as counterpoint.
Come all and join "The Steve Winwood Fan Group" on Facebook.
Blind Faith is a masterpiece album.
Cool 👍
Beginning @ 5:15 they're both just shredding it.
man Steve winwoods voice is still amazing
Actually, Steve was supposed to join Creem and auditioned for them just before they broke up for good, Blind Faith was the result....The Ultimate Super Group
I was absolutely blown away when I saw Steve Winwood at Humphrey's in San Diego play Crossroads on the guitar; it sounded like Creem, always thought of him as a keyboard artist but he is a hell of an Axe player!
I'm going to go back in Time a bit now(Blind Faith)
Ich geh mit, wenn es möglich wäre, würde glaub' ich die Hälfte unserer Generation blindlings einsteigen.(In die Zeitmaschine)
What a voice, shivers down my spine.
Ever time I hear this I am young again! What talent! it never gets old!
Steve Gadd is a great drummer but for some reason he just can't play ginger baker's drum parts. In fact he's a more skilled drummer, maybe by far. But any time Clapton's band plays a song from cream or blind faith the drums just sound...goofy and lacking.
Better than Ginger? Rethink...please.
Like good wine improves with age, these guys do too."excellent stuff." ERIC and Steve rock.
Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic, solo career all around gift from God to the music world!
Amen Yes he is hes the best ! God bless you always .🌹💖💖🎉
This drummer is good but, this song isn't quite the same without Ginger Baker's groove to carry it along. Great performance, nonetheless! Thanks for sharing.
"The drummer is good"...damned, I don't know if to laugh or to cry about it ¡It's fuc***g Steve Gadd!
a band with Clapton, Winwood, and Ginger Baker would have been great. nevertheless i'm sure the guys from blind faith were impressed with Clapton and Winwood's cover.
Thanks Bro...This made me laugh out loud...Amazing how narrow Rock & Roll listeners sonic palettes are...Steve Gadd..maybe the greatest modern drummer!!!
Sure is, about the only other drummer who can match Ginger for versatility and natural time
Of course Gadd is great, but that doesn't mean he's playing anything very interesting here. :) What Ginger has, above all, is *personality* in his playing. And that's what's missing here. But hey, Winwood and Clapton sound great, so it's all good.
If they sounded this good in 69, Blind Faith would've stayed together, and made rock history.
They sure made history, but egos have a way of getting in the way.
Fuckin awesome
In awe of Steve Winwood.. Absolutely gifted.. Just GIFTED
those TWO IS VERY SIMILAR STYLE' in Singing Winwood and Clapton;
Happy birthday eric😊yoy are rhe love of my life😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
these guys should start a band ...................oh wait ,,,never mind
sounds great
Turn the lights out, stop the show, there is no possible fucking way to top this.
Awesome jam ! Great musicians who compliment each other!! Kudos
Absolutely fantastic. I can watch this all day long 🤘🤘🤘
ORIGINAL( MAY BE A LITTLE ROUGH) ALWAYS THE BEST ; STILL "HANGING ON TIGHT TO MY "THRONE-LOST THE CASTLE 12 YRS AGO-""U R THE REASON IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG, WAITING FOR THE KEY,WAITING & I CANT FIND MY WAY HOME"(THEY TOOK IT AWAY ON A DOLLY)
Two of the best greatly appreciate rock hard and beautiful thank you guys
Two legends!!!
Steve can sing, play piano, AND play the guitar !!!
You forgot to say "better than anybody".
