Steve Winwood sounds almost exactly as he did when the album first came out in 1969. (That's when I got it on vinyl.) Very few people can cover their own material from 45 years ago and sound just as they did back in the day. Hats off to Mr. Winwood.
You can see why Clapton wanted so badly to get together with Winwood again :) That classic riff of theirs is so unbeatable...you just want to hear it over and over again :) I'm so glad there are recordings to preserve such greatness as these performances :)
Their Clueless, as to Hearing and Seeing Real Classic Rock...And Derek Trucks"TTB", and Doyle Bramhall, Layin' it Down as The Pro's, equal in Talent. Thank You for This Music & Sharing dac10020...2 Thumbs Up !
The opening cut to one of the greatest rock LP's of all time ("BLIND FAITH")... and the absolute ultimate example of how intelligent and sophisticated really hard rock can be when it's written and played by GENIUSES. It doesn't happen often. ("Who's Next" equals this, but it doesn't surpass it.) And notice: Two really great drummers with huge chops and impeccable time, playing full-out = one Ginger Baker. Addendum: 4:29... Rock Counterpoint. Clapton and Winwood: Twin brothers from different mothers.
It was 1969 - the Blind Faith album had just come out and I was over the moon about it - I had an impossible crush on a beautiful girl in the neighborhood - she and her brother and I would hang out doing nothing in particular - they bought the album for me for my 16th birthday! Still one of my top 5 albums to this day!!
Steve Winwood is one of the most talented musicians of all time. Love his voice and he can play anything. I love his Traffic recordings as well. Instrumental but rock and roll. Wonderful.
Great line up, great music. Clapton and Winwood were amongst the musicians who most inspired me in my youth, and hearing them playing together like this, I was close to crying tears of joy today.
Good gravy!! He's pushing 60 here and he's still singing this song in the same key as when he was 20! Amazing....just simply amazing....great singer, great guitarist, great keyboardist. Steve Winwood will always be one of my favorites.
2:22 even in his sixties, clapton can still rip a solo out that guitarists half his age couldnt handle as well technically or emotionally. rock on slowhand.
I love how Derek just stands at the back of all of this and yet he is one of (if not THE) most talented player up there. Aaaah, humility. So rare, so rare. Live long and play hard, Mr. Trucks.
World, this is the real meaning of spiritual, musical genius. Every future generation will always find something learnable from transcendent music like this.
I can still remember listening to Steve Winwood in the early 80s and I had no idea that he had been in a band called Blind Faith or Traffic that’s how young I was craziness
Absolutely brilliant! After all this time as good as the original Blind Faith vinyl version if not better as live. Stevie's unique voice and Clapton's great guitar playing what more could you want!
I saw Steve Winwood in '88. He never picked up a guitar... keyboards the whole show, and a GREAT show it was. He's a really good guitarist. I guess a bandmate like Clapton will help one's guitar work
+pete erickson steve was playing guitar at from 11years old in bands with his dad, watch english soul on utube he also backed hendriks on on records, they were pals there not much he cant play
If a Brit asks you for a rubber, don't get too excited--he just needs an eraser! Love love love little Stevie. Remember Spencer Davis Group? He was only 15 when he was wailing "I'm a man, yes I am....." His voice is one off IMO. Sometimes can sound strained or cracking, but still sends shivers up my spine. And such a cutie then, just sexy handsome now. Eric's not bad either! :)
Steve is just one of the magical guitarist I love to listen to along with Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn to just name a few that makes me Feel Amazing!!!!!!
Absolutely played from the heart and that is why it stands the test of time. The players may have aged, but their chops and emotional input into the music has only gotten better over the years, like a fine wine. This is what the majority of the new music today is lacking, emotion and SOUL, either you have it or you don't. It's not something you can learn. It's got to come from the fire inside that totally consumes you.
WOW! Still sounds so damn good! Loved him then and still do! He has been with so many great bands along with his own! Man oh man he is so solid! Gratefull I got him when I was so young and thought this would never end! Thanks for posting the eternal!
I'm not sure Stevie ever topped Gimme Some Lovin', but he certainly can't be faulted for producing one classic after another throughout the rest of the 60s. Some nice stuff through the 70s/80s. Oh and the spice with Traffic early 70s. Original organ on Voodoo Chile. The man is class.
I must admit that I didn't know who Steve Winwood was before I saw Crossroads, but it was easily the best musical discovery I've made in a long time. He is extremely talented.
So wanted to be at that show, but had a family reunion that night. I miss EC not playing any guitars with double humbuckers anymore, but alas he's stuck on the strats perennially. I appreciate Derek Trucks being there.
This fcukin' thing THUNDERS. Gods gracing the guitar earth. Winwood walks in NOBODY'S shadow and Clapton has the peer he's long needed to drag the best, most disciplined playing I've seen from him in ages. In fact, with Winwood, I'm interested again. Only other guy who'd do that was Allman and, now, thank God for his re-incarnation in Derek. But this is all about Winwood and Clapton. Oh! Shout-out to Steve Jordan-the hardest working drummer in rock...
The next best thing to having been there, is to buy the Clapton/Winwood Madison Square Garden DVD... It's truly transcendent! The deep love and respect that Clapton and Winwood have for each other is evident in everything they play. Just plain magical!
This song leaves me wanting. New music today has a different feeling to it. In the old days, music was something where you could tell the musicians were getting lost in their emotions, whether it be anger, misery, or anything else. the music reflected the feelings. Nowadays the music (even blues) is in your face and doesent really have any feeling to it other than cockyness. While this is good sometimes i just wish there was some more emotional music like this coming out.
49 seconds ago Amazing song, one of the first riffs i learned on guitar. It still blows my mind when people say that they are surprised that as they get older musicians still play well. They play better period. I have always thought being able to play music was something that you earned over a lifetime and these guys are the peak of that. Clapton is my favorite guitarist ever.
EC&SW school everyone in how two guitars can play lead at the same time and not step on each other. Doyle Bramhall & Derek Trucks share a smile as if to say, "Can you believe we are here, doing this?" Clapton's smile at the end to Steve and their hug shows the love and appreciation that only a long time friendship elicits. These guys are the real deal. Listen!!!!!!!!!!
netipus & ogenmatic, ya both just took the words right outta my mouth, or picked my brain...just looked at Winwood and said wow, since he was 15, right? And then I thought, damn that drummer's goooood!! great minds think alike
I saw them about 6 months ago on their US tour-excellent show! It was an honor to be in the same building with these living musical legends, even though I was way up in the cheap seats.
I wish more people of my age listened to Clapton I'm 18 and I only know about a handful that do. I truthfully think that he is one of the best guitarists to listen to along with Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Vai ,Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck and Joe Petrucci just to name a few.
What a great sound - the original twin lead guitar sound - and whilst we all love Eric - how good is Steve Winwood - and from my home town - bless the blues
this song on their Madison Square Garden show knocks me out ..especially from 5:10 on...and before...and in between :-) dvd well worth buying ..love this with Derek too..thanks for sharing
One of the best live versions I've heard. Steve Jordan is putting all his energy into it. You just can't teach that kind of "feel" for a song. Really makes the difference. Of course it helps to have 2 other guitar players besides Winwood and Clapton, especially when one is Derick Trucks and the other is Doyle Bramhall II. Not too shabby.
Wow so good . Those guitars are on fire. Stevie vocals are outstanding. Drummer doing fantastic. Eric and Stevie great musicians those guitars are giving the very best sound by expert artists. Wow all those musicians know about music. Wow factor for certain. Thank you so very much.
Even if you're not an Eric Clapton Enthusiast, The solo in this Magical Mystery Moment is AWESOME !!! I I've heard and watched lots of accomplished Guitarists . . . . BUT ---- You have to admit Eric's solo here Eric makes it looks so Easy. It's actually one of those moments you realize that you're jaw is Still dropped open, and . . . . . (Fuck it , I'm gonna watch it again)

+ironpirites Winwood was singing for Spencer Davis group in the very early 1960's too. I'm a Man, Gimme Some Lovin' , Keep On Running etc, etc.
+ironpirites
I totally agree
+kirk johnwiggle And Traffic.
Better! Particularly than what they could do live then.
Blind Faith was a great band. Got to see them several times in the early 70s. They didn't last long sadly.
You can see why Clapton wanted so badly to get together with Winwood again :) That classic riff of theirs is so unbeatable...you just want to hear it over and over again :) I'm so glad there are recordings to preserve such greatness as these performances :)
Winwood's voice has not aged a bit! Wow.
Yup, one of the most pure and incredible voices...perhaps of all time!

There is simply no accounting for taste... although I certainly agree with Harrys' reply.
Listening, reading the lyrics - feeds the heart and soul. Need this today.
Winwood is an underestimated guitar player.
Blind Faith really wrote some great songs on their one album, great post.
Four of the best guitarists currently working today sharing the stage. Yea, it doesn't really get any better than this. Phenomenal.
Winwood is the only singer I can think of who sounds as good, if not better, today than he did 40 years ago.
Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight....
The opening cut to one of the greatest rock LP's of all time ("BLIND FAITH")... and the absolute ultimate example of how intelligent and sophisticated really hard rock can be when it's written and played by GENIUSES.

@grimble I don't get that comment at all.

Steve Winwood is one of the most talented musicians of all time. Love his voice and he can play anything. I love his Traffic recordings as well. Instrumental but rock and roll. Wonderful.
Damn! Clapton has to keep up with Winwood...He's on Fire!
Clapton is a Great.
But Winwood is a gifted prodigy.. 100% natural, + tough to equal..
But together what a treat..
Great line up, great music. Clapton and Winwood were amongst the musicians who most inspired me in my youth, and hearing them playing together like this, I was close to crying tears of joy today.
Steve Winwood's hasn't aged nearly as much as 99% of the singers still performing from his era.
Winwoods voice never changes, so strong and playing with Clapton never gets old, great together,
Pure magic, unbelievable. That solo was out of this world. It's not how fast you can play but how much feeling and soul you put into your playing.
These two have soul & talent!
Good gravy!! He's pushing 60 here and he's still singing this song in the same key as when he was 20! Amazing....just simply amazing....great singer, great guitarist, great keyboardist. Steve Winwood will always be one of my favorites.
Stevie Winwood belting it out!! I love it! and Clapton is right with him...a master duo for sure.
What a wonderful version, after 30 years! Amazing
2:22 even in his sixties, clapton can still rip a solo out that guitarists half his age couldnt handle as well technically or emotionally. rock on slowhand.
that show must had been fabulous. all that talent. oh Doyle just rocks. they all do that is why they are there.
Steve Winwood has the most distinctive voice, distinctive and beautiful. I’ve always been a fan.
Legends never fade away they just keep kickin Ass.
Wow, my faith in Blind Faith has been restored!! Very impressive Eric! Steve, your voice is still strong and well. What a pleasure to watch this.
I love how Derek just stands at the back of all of this and yet he is one of (if not THE) most talented player up there. Aaaah, humility. So rare, so rare. Live long and play hard, Mr. Trucks.

Steve always that bluesy voice. When I 1st herd " keep on running and I'm a man" I thought he was black. Keep on rocking Steve.
clapton's guitar and windwood's voice combines into magic
Winwood...Clapton..
Trucks ...Bramhil...Jordan! Wow!
Really Incredible performance!
And Ian Thomas.
It was good to see a young Derek Trucks right there in the middle of it all. Today he's one of the four best players in the business.
yes he is and current King of the slide. IMO
Bob Cardenaz
Absolutely.
He's also one of the three best pickers too. He can smoke Joe Bonamassa.
trucks himself. Need I say anymore
Carolyn Coruzzi Absolutely!
I love Derek Trucks. He is an absolute craftsman with a guitar in his hands.
Blind faith: best band Clapton ever had!! The magic lasted for a half album and the thing was gone... what a singer Steve Winwood is!!!!!
Joined by the GREAT DEREK TRUCKS!
Winwood + Clapton= Good concert :)
Saw them in Philly last night. Saw Clapton in 74, 80, 2007, and last night. He gets better with age. This was the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two old men. Rock better than anybody else thats for sure! Would love to have been there or at any of the guitar fests.
Steve Winwood is the most underrated musicain/singer of his generation
Absolutely brilliant! After all this time as good as the original Blind Faith vinyl version if not better as live. Stevie's unique voice and Clapton's great guitar playing what more could you want!
Voice like fine wine. Only gets better age. Fuckin legendary man.

Steve Winwood is a musical genius, in my humble opinion..
They opened with this one in St Paul on the 18th could honestly say i'll never see two bigger talents on stage together again.

What the eff is there to dislike about this? Really....some of the best of the best up there in this band on every instrument.
WOW! Still sounds so damn good!

Damn. 1970 just rushed back to me. Not too bad looking back on it
love this stuff...it amazes me how Stevie Winwood's voice is still in tact. Awesome!!
I must admit that I didn't know who Steve Winwood was before I saw Crossroads, but it was easily the best musical discovery I've made in a long time. He is extremely talented.
A voice that always sends shivers up my spine. And dueling Stratocasters! I'm gonna cry today.

They should come to Australia so I can see them and be left in awe for the rest of my life.
So wanted to be at that show, but had a family reunion that night. I miss EC not playing any guitars with double humbuckers anymore, but alas he's stuck on the strats perennially. I appreciate Derek Trucks being there.
Eric Clapton is so smooth
Steve Winwood, what a babe. Electrifying performance.
This fcukin' thing THUNDERS. Gods gracing the guitar earth.

Mr. Winwood still has it!! Bravo!!
I love the way Doyle and Derek look at each other and smile...like there thinking man we are playing with legends....
Love Steve Jordan's playing! Has the Tony Williams energy-thing goin'.... GREAT! Thanks for the post.
Derek can hold his own..the boy is only in his 20s...he's the future of blues rock...yay!
They opened with this one in Las Vegas. Words can't say how good they were.

Talk about "psychedelic shred"!!!! OMFG the double lead at the end ROCKS!

man that drummer really got into the zone when clapton started to solo haha awesome song
netipus & ogenmatic, ya both just took the words right outta my mouth, or picked my brain...just looked at Winwood and said wow, since he was 15, right? And then I thought, damn that drummer's goooood!! great minds think alike
Steve still has his voice. Thats a great thing considering he has been singing for 45 years.
A word for Doyle Bramhall II, a great one
That's why Eric picked him for his touring band. He's very good.

Well, all I can say on this one is..

Fantastic! From the looks on their faces at the end I think Clapton and Winwood even impressed themselves. heh
I saw them about 6 months ago on their US tour-excellent show! It was an honor to be in the same building with these living musical legends, even though I was way up in the cheap seats.

Steve Winwood is the greatest singer/guitarist alive.
UNBELIEVABLE! You know these guys are so tight when they can put that together. Thanks!
Even if you're not an Eric Clapton Enthusiast, The solo in this Magical Mystery
Moment is AWESOME !!! I I've heard and watched lots of accomplished Guitarists . . . . BUT ---- You have to admit Eric's solo here Eric makes it looks so Easy.
It's actually one of those moments you realize that you're jaw is Still dropped open,
and . . . . . (Fuck it , I'm gonna watch it again)
I love how Eric just rips into that solo!!! Steve's still got the goods to. Amazing, thanks for posting!
I was also at Hollywood Bowl when they performed this song! So much more fun live!
