    Idea to make a Wizard or Pact of the Tome Warlock with Magic Initiate and Rotual Caster to have a character whos constantly shuffling through different books XD

    I love this as a player and as a dm. It lets the player expand what they are able to do but it lets the dm have control of what new spells to prevent it from breaking your game.

    Thinking of doing this with a Paladin, the BBEG dropped his spellbook last session and no one in our party has a use for it ... for now. >:)
    Plus, I will save so many spellslots by doing several rituals for free! Purify food and water? Check. Find steed? Check. And so many other useful spells for the party!
    Now I can finally use up all my spellslots during combat, without having to fear for my out-of-combat uses of said slots.
    Paladins sadly have only a few slots, so this is a godsend. Great video! :D

    Not as good as a Warlock with the Pact of the Tome. That makes for an awesome utility character, especially once you have the tiny hut spell.

  • @bisnesify
    @bisnesify 4 года назад +6

    I disagree with saying a wizard doesn't really benifit from this.
    It basically alows you to multiclass without multiclassing. There are so many utility druid or cleric ritual spells unavailable for the wizard. It mostly depends on the flavor you want your character to have.

    • @ChancesSpellbook
      @ChancesSpellbook  3 года назад

      Fair point! Although I find the wizard to have some of the best ritual spells in the game! I suppose that if you want to provide a different feel to your character, without making the commitment to multiclassing, this is perfect... Well said, good sir!

    • @rumbleroller2154
      @rumbleroller2154 3 года назад

      This also benefits a wizard. I agree. But I believe it benefits them in the way that a Wizard doesn't HAVE to prepare these ritial spells in order to cast them. They're always available, as long as they're written down in the book. You can save your space and prepare spells you really need..

    The last DM I played with liked to mix and match additions. One of his rules was that you actually had to find a familiar before you were able to cast find familiar. I was a Monklock and I was able to get my hands on a lemure fresh out of Avernus. Before they that I got a hell fire obsidian dagger and a set of soulstones. Long story a little less long I was able to harvest enough soul nrg to raise me my very own Imp. She was so greatful that she used native magic that we later learned in order to basically turn my flesh into a spellbook via the ritual caster feat.I love how Sean would do stuff like that to make all of our characters feel truly unique.

    Part of me wishes this feat was just the book of shadows the warlock gets, where you can copy ANY ritual into it. But maybe at an EXTRA 50 gold per level

      I 100% agree! Personally I find the book of shadows to be a little underwhelming.

    Good summary. Agreed on Pals finding this very useful and on Find Familiar. Watch out for the Arcana check for copying from scrolls, though. A as a quick note Tomelocks get RC on steroids via Book of Ancient Secrets. They can just poach rituals from every class and I've even heard of a Tomelock Shillelagh combo since the BoAS makes Cha the Shillelagh "hitting" stat. And you can select it at third level asap if you pick druid for your first rituals.

    • @ChancesSpellbook

      Very great points! Also interesting combo idea! I've actually already done the videos on the Eldritch Invocations and I personally thing Book of Ancient Secrets is a little overpowered haha! I really appreciate the comment though, I'll have to pin it!

    • @ChancesSpellbook
      @ChancesSpellbook  4 года назад +2

      Good point! Although I think it would depend on how you intend to use the Feat. Most Ritual spells are utility, and don't actually have a need for a DC

      @@ChancesSpellbook some update i told my dm i wanna use it for my druid and as she uses a home rule that it must fit the character she told me she figured a way out to let me gain access to that divination spells, also makes sense for my druid to get cleric spells as she is an acolyte. P.S. Divination is my favorite school of magic and I hope it will help in the dire quest of my druid!

  • @Florian0799
    @Florian0799 4 года назад +4

    i had some thoughts about it you actually have to do some rp in acquiring said book ritual books dont just fall from the sky or do they?

    • @RichWoods23
      @RichWoods23 2 года назад

      Ritual books don't fall from the sky when you learn this feat any more than crossbows fall from the sky when you learn Crossbow Expert. You buy an empty spell book, plus inks and components, and you hire a suitably skilled NPC (who also knows the spells you want, or you find or buy them on scrolls) to teach you how to use it (or you ask someone who owes you a favour, perhaps a fellow party member if you're really lucky). If you don't have a decent Arcana skill this could take a while, and possibly lots more money, until you've mastered the feat and have your two 1st level ritual spells written down and fully understood. Off the top of my head I can't remember if there's any guidance as to how much downtime this might take, but a minimum of four weeks seems reasonable to me.

    I feel much safer now that the wave length has broken, also... That's a lot of text...
    So basically, if your super rich, hire someone to make a magic scroll that can be cast as ritual, copy it into book, and then sell scroll... You have just effectively added spell to you spell list, and possibly removed the representative cost of the Ink and materials. Maybe use it to buy a new scroll and repeat. Basically 'free' spells added to your known spell list as long as you never loose your ritual book or find a way to bind it to you so it CAN'T be lost/destroyed

    • @ChancesSpellbook
      @ChancesSpellbook  4 года назад +3

      Haha I'm happy to hear! I also like your idea, I could see it working into one of my games!
      Lets say, for example: You took the Criminal background, and you use your Criminal Contact to acquire and resell spell scrolls for a profit. Until one day your Criminal Contact stops responding, and you hear a rumor that they've been captured by the local Arcane Guild! They've caught wind of you cutting in on their market, and have decided to take matters into their own hands...
      I think it would be pretty fun haha!

    Hi! I have a question. I'm on my very first character, she is a barbarian (path of the beast) but she comes from a scholarly upbringing and is an archivist. I want to take either ritual caster or magic initiate as a feat for this and was wondering which one you think would be better for this character?

    "How do you get this ritual tag thing? First it says I learn spells that can be cast as rituals, then it says the spell needs to have a ritual tag. How do I get that and use it?" Misaka Misaka asks super confused while considering giving up trying to learn this game.

    • @Blossoming_Fate
      @Blossoming_Fate 4 года назад +4

      Pretty sure ritual tag just means the spell is marked internally as being able to cast as a ritual. I don't think its an actual obtainable item. And just a personal opinion, The game seams hard to understand, but just focus on a bit at a time, you'll get there. I may be still new and learning but Trying to understand everything all at once is what made me unable to grasp it my first time I tried. You'll get there.
      PS: Nice Last Order profile picture. Super Cute!

    • @ChancesSpellbook
      @ChancesSpellbook  4 года назад +3

      @@Blossoming_Fate is 100% correct! The Ritual tag is labeled in the spell description. I've been working on a Playlist to go into all of the Ritual spells, sadly it probably won't be done for a while.
      In any case, if you're new to the game I'd recommend staying away from the Casters, at least until you've seen someone play one.

    Question: does this stack with spells learned with Magic Initiate? And can the spells be changed upon a long rest?

    • @Asoraso4ever
      @Asoraso4ever Год назад

      Obviously if the Magic Initiate spell has a Rirtual Tag you can cast it both ways. You can't change the spell for M. I. and you dont need to for ritual caster bc. you add more spells to your book without losing the first 2.
