grateful for everything, grateful for st. etienne, imagine all the people that do not know of this band . what kind of life do they live ? their sad world is far from this.
I took St Erienne to The Plough Pub in Chelmsford after they performed this at a Radio One Road Show... And Sarah was beautiful with her lovely Mother... Julie XXX
God, there was so much good music in the '90s -Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc. in the States, Roses, Charlatans, Mondays and all of Madchester, all the dance offshoots like Orbital, The Orb, Leftfield and then the unique ones like Etienne. Good times to have been a student :)
+Andrew Cleland you missed out The Prodegy, best group to come out of the '90's which was a bit a musical wilderness compared to the '70's and 80's in MHO.
Love this band. In summer '94, I'd just finished my first year at university and hadn't yet heard their music. A few months later, 'He's on the Phone' was played on the radio (Friday night Pete Tong show on Radio 1, for anyone who's interested) and I grew to love them. Great band, now 20+ years later and I still love them. Special times & memories.
Fantastic LIVE Like a Motorway, amazing song and great talent. I still can`t understand why they were`nt bigger. But thats how it is with quality music...
Just looking at the line-up for 1994 and that was a vintage year - many of the 'smaller' bands at the time would go on to become huge. Excellent performance from Saint Etienne here - I don't think Bob ever played live with them, did he? I'm sure I read an interview where it said he didn't like touring or playing live, so he stuck to the studio side of things instead.
@@crozwayne there’s many great version of this folk song but I always had a soft spot for Joan Baez and at the other end of the spectrum St Étienne. Great link 👍🏼
I like how Saint Etienne wrote all of this effortlessly cool pop music but they were also like awkward garage crate digging weirdos at the end of the day. Sarah could have been sold as a sex symbol but instead she was just a chill person singing great songs and not taking herself too seriously. I have a lot of respect for them making it all about the music. Maybe they were never the biggest band in the world but their talent means they have one hell of a discography looking back.
It's hard to believe that it's been 18 years since this was shot. I finally saw the band for the first time this fall and Sarah looked the same, but even better. What's her secret?!?
I was there that sunny day . They and she were brilliant
I was there too!
I was there too 94 was a good one.

Brilliant! Who'd of thought this song would translate into such a great live performance! All to the band's credit for a rare jewel of a performance.

Yeh was there, awesome. Back when Glasto was an indie festival.

Then it all got a bit boring...
94 one of the best Glastonbury's
Amazing Sara.. She is a superstar.
Just watched StE live. "Like a motorway" still fresh, Saint Etienne still brilliant, Sarah Cracknell still beautiful!

The days before race hate and riots and terror xx beautiful time to be me then.
Yes, since 1994, the end of the apartheid in south africa, more than 2000 white farmers were murdered in south africa.
Loved Sarah, fav album was fox base alpha, but have tiger Bay, oh finnistere was deadly too
Good choices there. As for Finisterre -this was a really underrated album I thought and right up there with their best (the first three albums)
timeless
canta tan suave esta muchacha, es un placer escucharla, excelente canción
Que temazo y súper linda
Bjork was having a big influence on the dancing that year, Sarah's throwin' some typical shapes of the Icelandic avant-garde.
No.
THANK YOU
@dirkbogarde44 Notice how Sarah checks to make sure they are looking perky enough at 0.55 to 0.56... the consummate entertainer!
fooking great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is when Glasto was good was that the main stage for that year ? Beautifull woman.
impressive performance...the real drums make Saint Etienne more near to Alternative Rock than his pop peers of 90´s...
So hot! I love Saint Etienne and particularly this song. Fantastic!
Brilliant.
What a sweet thought, noaches!
Great
amazing and sensual woman..

@@crozwayne incredible ! you've learnt something to me....do you know if ST ETIENNE made any reference to this J BAEZ song ?
ooh I didnt realise all that
God she's cute.
Its Sarah 'lets ave a crack at it now then' isn't it?
I always preferred to take the minor roads...
Why all the security?
JOY DIVISION
Bless u for putting the best 90's band that everyones forgotten on the tube!

And not a 50Cent in sight (still in prison in 1994 probably)!
Look how clever I am.....
Is this what concerts are like in England? The band performs 30 feet from the audience? How can anyone connect with that much distance? Ridiculous.
From 30 miles away she'd still look good !
