    I didn't realize until after the video that this is literally an inversion of the Aqua analysis - in the debut material, Aqua's motivations had an incredibly flawed logic and was thus an unsatisfying character, but was fixed in her subsequent appearance in 0.2. Xemnas, on the other hand, had fantastically tragic motivations based on the logic of what Nobodies are/lack... only to be overwritten in 3D by reducing those masterstrokes to logical inconsistencies and thus now an unsatisfying character.

    • @TheAzulmagia
      @TheAzulmagia 6 лет назад +202

      Well, to be fair, Xemnas was always planning on backstabbing the Organization and getting Kingdom Hearts to himself from all indication. There's also the fact that he intentionally made himself a Nobody in the first place, which makes it harder to sympathize with him. But he definitely lost interesting aspects of his character by becoming Baldynort's toady.

      But Nobodies having hearts was the only point of Days existing as a title in the series. This isn't some asspull that DDD gave us.

    • @kenjikuroiwa99
      @kenjikuroiwa99 6 лет назад +101

      DDD managed to make sense out of the mess that was Xemnas' plan though.
      Let me elaborate.
      Xemnas: "Wow Roxas has a keyblade and it's the only one that can destroy heartless for us and complety Kingdom hearts, better force axel to kill him"
      "MM Sora is trying to kill us now that we almost complete our new kingdom hearts, better send what's left of my organization one by one to kill him instead of just going with everyone"
      "Better send Demyx to die for no reason whatsoever, I mean we still need Sora, so him dying at this point would hurt our plan ,so why would I even order Demyx to attack him? actually why did I even send anyone to attack him?"
      "Maybe if we kill Sora we could get Roxas again! you mean the Roxas you ordered us to kill? yeah that one!"
      Even more, he didn't really needed to do all the mess up crap he tried, he only needed to send someone with a keyblade to kill heartless that's it, that's literally everything he ever truly needed, no need to send his organization to other worlds and create more nobodies by making people into heartless, there were already plenty of heartless, he could have literally just asked Sora for help, it's idiotic that he even tried to manipulate him for nothing, when the heartless were already a problem he would have fighted in anyway.
      If something every single other nobody in the other organization except Xemnas had the whole tragedy going on, because they were tricked into doing all the mess up stuff by Xemnas, they couldn't stop to think about it because they lacked the ability to care and they genuinely thought this was the only way to be whole again.
      DDD managed to take out the nonsense of that, but I do get what the idea behind him was in KH2, I just think that since every single one of his actions seemed to against what he said was his goal, it just wasn't all that compelling to me as a character.

    Even though it had its flaws I feel KH3 managed to fix Xemnas character again. It made it so that Nobodies could develop hearts but made it seem as if Xemnas although he could get a heart chose rather to abandon his emotions instead. True his motivation is still lessened but I found his final moments rather interesting where he reflects on the heart and what he did and regrets throwing away the few people he could've actually cared for as comrades, truly differentiating him from his core being as a part of Xehanort. Ansem and Xemnas had become their own people too, and in the end only when it was too late did they realize their faults and the true power of the heart

    • @thatjrpganimefanplayerjusi8003
      @thatjrpganimefanplayerjusi8003 Год назад +2

      Yeah no ansem can’t become his own person DID YOU FORGET HE IS THE MAIN HEART ESSENCE AND XEHANORT HIMSELF he’s literally xehanort with a name swap and no physical form until riku possession
      what ansem said at the end of his story still pretty much sums up xehanort when They betrayed us I found I did not care then nothing seem to matter anymore that still xehanort straight up and foreshadows xehanort end as well aka xehanort coming to terms just as his own heart did
      Xemnas however I give you that
      But thanks to DARK ROAD he still goes by the irony of still being xehanort as a new being that is remember what happened to young xehanort aka loss his friends aka his comrades
      So thanks to dark road they really are still xehanort main split existence essence with ansem obviously being him directly
      Hell DDD already explained this especially with the ansem thing
      And replica riku nort in KH 3 when taking about the time travel as he said xehanort went back in time as ANSEM while he left a piece of him in Xemnas

  • @yetravellingsonc8372
    @yetravellingsonc8372 3 года назад +18

    He's unironically the most interesting, even when you consider the plot twist in 3D. He had no emotions, not because he couldn't, but because he didn't want to. Him not having emotions was a self restraint to further his plan to make everyone xehanort by leading everyone to think they couldn't have emotions, and in KH3, when you beat him, he feels for the first time in god knows how long. And during those years, the emerging memories of his time as Terra began to push through, with no real outlet.
    And the first things he feel? Loneliness and regret. Not anger, not hatred, not maddened joy from how close he was to victory, none of those things.
    He felt dead inside.
    He went from someone with a clear cut purpose in life, to an obsolete heart with no purpose now that Xehanort and Terra were both alive and well. He became, for lack of better terms, a true nobody.

  • @christophersanchez7731
    @christophersanchez7731 5 лет назад +49

    Yes but each Xehanort was tragic in their own way
    Ansem is a Heartless that knows nothing but darkness, and after traveling and fighting with Riku and others he reveals he actually was proud of their progress and no longer cares even after he discovered Vexen’s treachery which made Roxas’ Replica
    Xemnas: he was somewhat shaped by Terra’s sense of friendship but couldn’t feel. At his final moments he revealed he regretted treating his members as pawns, how he now felt lonely and having nothing and how he hated how painful a heart is and actually admired humans for enduring it.
    Young Xehanort was formerly a boy merely with the dream to be free, and see other worlds. Before he was destined to get his freedom, his other self made his dream come true early in a twisted way, he became his future Self’s herald to make the Real Organization XIII and Keyblade War happen
    As Woody stated he’s Hollow because he has nothing else but the ambitions of a future self that’s not his own yet, he’s still a boy that has no idea what he wants for himself. And he would be sent back to the present doomed to relive everything that’ll happen in a time loop
    Terranort: created from a fusion of hearts, Terra’s rage and Xehanort’s obsession warped him into becoming all those tragic figures and like Young Xehanort has nothing of his own
    Apparently all of those guys were sacrificed to become fragments to recreate the X-blade as well
    Master Xehanort: he’s curious yes, but he had to throw everything away that once meant something to him, his training world, Eraqus, Ventus as he actually once cared for him, his simple dream of freedom and exploration, his own individuality by splitting himself to make his alternative selves of the Organization, only to find out he himself was a pawn at the end with nothing left of his own

    Honestly, as much as I give DDD shit for jumping the shark with the time travel stuff, I would argue that Xemnas's characterization in that game makes sense since his goals were more than just wanting a heart. He ultimately wanted kingdom hearts all for himself for power, treating his subordinates as tools for this goal. While he genuinely does want a heart, he eventually has his Xehanort-ness show thru and becomes obsessed with anger, hatred, and nothingness. This is purely speculation but I almost feel it's sort of how Terranort lost his memories and genuinely wanted to piece everything together, but when he did, that's when he became full-xehanort once more.
    Also, It always made sense to me that Nobodies regenerated their hearts after time? Even back in the KH2 days and especially more evident in 358/2 Days, seeing the Organization XIII members get angry, feel sympathy, and in Axel's case, ACTUALLY MAKE FRIENDS that made me heavily doubt Yen Sid's claims that "if a nobody shows emotion, they're lying."
    If anyone got ruined, it's Ansem SoD and how he suddenly is able to time travel only once, which by extension also ruins Young Xehanort by making him the lame time travel plot device... Yeah, I hope they tone things down greatly in KH3.

Long ago, the four nations live together in harmony, then everything got even more convoluted when 3D attacked. 6 years have passed and my sister and came across toy story and monsters inc. These disney worlds were in a game call kingdom hearts 3. If it can master all the disney worlds, it can bring balance to the story once again. Although its gameplay great, it still has alot to learn before fans can appreciate its exsitance. But one day I believe kingdom hearts 3 will change the world.

    I think the two portrayals can be reconciled if you view Xigbar as the shadow leader of the Organization with Xemnas as his amnesiac puppet. Because Xigbar was the only member unconcerned with being killed while even Xemnas was horrified. You can argue that Xemnas didn’t actually know the true purpose of the Organization until being pulled from the timestream and by that time he resigned to the fact that he’s just as expendable as the lackeys he abused so he just went along with it (before the memory wiping bs at least)

  • @TaliesinMyrddin
    @TaliesinMyrddin 6 лет назад +166

    To be fair, even back in KH2, let alone Days, there were plenty of hints at Nobodies having hearts.
    Really, I actually think Xemnas is still a good villain. Think about it like this: Nobodies can grow hearts if they are exposed to emotions, like Roxas did because of Ven's heart, and Lea because of proximity to Roxas.
    The Organisation was set up with every member numbered, given a new name, wearing identical clothes, living in identical rooms, told not to interact with anyone outside their group, living in a building of drab grey colours, told all their emotions are fake, that they can't feel real emotions, and that they are incomplete, non-human.
    The Organisation was basically a cult specially designed by Xemnas to prevent the other members from growing hearts until he could infect them all with copies of Xehanort's, possibly by growing his heart over and over, possessing each in turn. Roxas screwed that up because of Ven.
    There's some real psychological fuckery going on from Xemnas that makes him seem a lot more devious than he actually appeared in-game.

    • @pikakit1
      @pikakit1 6 лет назад +48

      TaliesinMyrddin I actually agree with this comment. His true intentions were to brainwash the entire Organization XIII (except those that already knew his plans and were willing to help) into believing that they were to remain without hearts forever until they could carry out their mission to completion. He also made them all believe that their emotions were "fake" and just a product of their memories, re-enacting their time as a human.
      I was also never satisfied with the idea that they didn't have hearts while watching the interactions between the various members of the organization, especially the interactions between Axel, Roxas, and Xion.

    • @meteornome2556
      @meteornome2556 6 лет назад +45

      A LOT of people seem to not notice that Organization XIII was pretty much a cult, with Xemnas literally worshiping Kingdom Hearts for power, and him brainwashing his followers into believing that they are merely empty shells without hearts, that any emotion they felt was just them using memories of their past life as opposed to genuinely feeling it, and that the only way to obtain a heart was to do as he ordered, with Xemnas even threatening them with death or turning them into a dusk if they disobeyed.
      KH2 told us that initially nobodies are created from nothing and lack hearts but DDD revealed that Xemnas never told the nobodies under him that *the heart will attempt to replace/reconstruct itself the first chance it gets* Xemnas knew all along that nobodies will eventually develop hearts naturally and withheld that fact from them, so that they could stay as empty shells for him to use as vessels.
      In a way the nobodies ended up falling prey to what Apprentice Xehanort originally did as experimentation as a scientist, get the heart to renounce itself. Which is also why Xemnas changed their names, to separate themselves as nobodies from their original self's.

    Xehanort motivation is that he wants to get to the real Kingdom hearts and create a new world with it that fits his ideals of perfect balance between light and darkness.
    What makes him evil is that he's willing to kill someone he refered to as his brother, physically abuse a multiple children, sent a girl to literall hell and risk an apocalypse to do it.
    Eraqus thinks it's just curiosity because he didn't knew that Xehanort's investigation revealed the whole "Kingdom hearts allows you to create a new world" thing, which being fair is mentioned in a single Xehanort report so I don't blame most people for missing it.

    Tbh i think 3d revealing nobodies regrow hearts actually does work in a sense. Organization XIII could already be compared to a cult, and this just drives it further home. Xemnas was effectively teaching thought stopping techniques and keeping the nobodies away from contact with other people specifically so they would remain empty shells and could be made into vessels for xehanort. It reframes him as a ruthless cult leader who doesn't really believe what he's preaching, but keeps doing it anyway because it gives him control.
    That isn't to say there's no reason for him to make kingdom hearts, then. ASOD and Xemnas were probably just exploring other potential avenues to manifest kingdom hearts and obtain its power without the X-blade (ansem via the final keyhole, and xemnas via the organization)

      Heartless are made out of abadoned hearts, but they're called heartless bc they behave like mindless "killing" machines, their only goal being to take other hearts.
      Nobodies are actually ONLY bodies, devoid of any heart (and thus no emotion). They're called Nobody in the sense that they are no one. Since they have no heart to be swayed by either light of dark, they aren't welcomed into either realm & are considered pointless by both sides.

Since Xemnas is a nobody, he couldn't comprehend feelings, he never knew there was more to the heart than just anger and hate. Actually all the villains up to DDD had their own goals and desires. In BBS Xehanort wanted to create the "X-blade' because it was the "ultimate weapon" forged by darkness and light according to legend from the previous Keyblade war. In the original Kingdom Hearts Ansem wanted absolute darkness because that's how he thought everything was before the worlds were created and want everything thing to return back to the darkness. Now after DDD everyone is just a Xehanort with the same goal and character. How did Xehanort persuade all these different characters with different goals from different times? Why "13" darknesses and "7" lights? How is this story more of a cluster fuck then it was before?

Ansem SoD wanted to let darkness swallow the worlds in order to reunite the 13 original darknesses and make them clash with the 7 princess of heart, ergo the 7 lights, while Xemnas wanted to create a fake Kingdom Heart and fuse the other members to it so that all the other could receive his heart and become Xehanort, ergo the 13 SoD. Why 13 darkness and 7 lights? Because that's how many parts the original X-Blade shattered after being destroyed during the Keyblade War.

      Soul6 while that makes sense, it’s an incredibly contrived plot that’s just completely lame. Ruined the series for me.

    No really, Nomura. Thanks for making Nobodies completely pointless. This totally doesn't ruin them in the previous games or anything.

      But isn't it already heavily implied that they could grow/have hearts given the actions of Axel, Roxas, and Xion.
      Sure you could argue Roxas only does so because he has Ventus' heart within him and Sora, and you could prob say the same for Xion too, but then what about Axel? :v

    • @keeganstormblade5456
      @keeganstormblade5456 6 лет назад +63

      It was originally stated that they could only mimic the emotions they could remember; they couldn't actually _feel_ said emotions. Roxas was a special case since he already had a heart, and Xion wasn't even a real Nobody.

      And yet, Axel kind of ruins that. Either we go with DDD's explanation and Axel's sorrow and grief over Roxas' decision to abandon the Organization was genuine, or we stick to the idea that Nobodies don't have hearts, which opens up a new problem: if it's just pretend, why does Axel get so worked up about Roxas leaving? He shouldn't care about what Roxas does outside of killing Heartless, but he absolutely does. If it's just pretend, then how hard is he pretending to make it clear that he feels that way? I mean, he'd essentially be pretending hard enough to actually feel that way, which would render staying in the Organization to be almost entirely pointless.
      Also, let's be real: if each member of Org. XIII was entirely emotionless, they'd be super boring.

      Gotta agree with Anastasia here, Axel is practically defining proof that Nobodies have some semblance of a heart and that it wasn't just pulled out of the air in DDD.
      There's no reason at all for him to go through all of that trouble just to pretend he cared about Roxas.

      I guess that's true. If I remember correctly, it was during Chain of Memories that was when this sort of thing was hinted at, since Axel noticed he was legitimately enjoying himself after freeing Namine.

    Oh come on, it was obvious in KH2 that he was just using the rest of the organization for his own goals, and that his goals weren't what they seemed. Pretty much everyone in the Organization knew this, and that's why there were so many traitors.

      There was 2...only 2 marluxia and larxene no one else, vexen was only after completing his research (for malicious reasons not the bs 3 says) and axel got rid of him because he was giving to much away, and zexion was eliminated to tie up lose ends.

    I fucking despise DDD so much for this. One of my favorite scenes in all of Kingdom Hearts is when Sora asks xemnas if he remembers any emotions other then anger and hate and his response is simply "unfortunately... I don't". It's so obvious how much he wants to be whole again but he just doesn't know any other way other then through the power of kingdom hearts.
