Emma has been asked to do the 5 May 2024 concert in Amsterdam - she of course accepted as a huge honour!
Hi Chris, Margraten is known for the cemetery where about 8000 American soldiers are buried who died in WO 2 saving our country from the German occupants. And every year there is a concert to remember the day we were liberated. (The official liberation day for the country is may 5th.) Almost all the graves are adopted by Dutch people living in that area. They put flowers on the graves when there are memorial days or even on the birthdays of the soldier they adopted.
It is to express our gratitude.
On you tube you can find more about Margraten if you want to check that out. And yes, Emma did a great job ( again) singing this song the way she did. Imagine most of the audience are from the military. Thanks for your reaction. 🖐😊
Respect❣️
This song/reaction made me think about my dad...My dad was born in 1928 in the Netherlands, he went through the war (WW2) as a teenager. I wish I'd asked him more questions now that he passed away 6 months ago. I know his brother escaped from a camp in Germany where he was send to when he was captured and he walked for 10 days straight to get home (From Germany to The Netherlands) and his hands and feet were frozen (frostbite, and I remember you could still see the wounds on his hands and told me his feet were damaged badly). My father never complained and he teached me to never give up and always stand up. He could be angry at times when I was a kid. He had me and my siblings at a "old age" , but he never ever was an old man when I was a kid, even when he was in his 80's he still wasn't an old man and still worked. He worked till he died at the age of 95. Going through something like WW2 makes you some kind of super human I guess. He also served and even was a instructor in the army (high ranked). I miss my dad every day...I wish I could be as strong as he was...
Chris, this song very clearly reached deep into you, and thank you so much for being so open with your reaction, and letting your own emotions show, that was indeed a beautiful reaction to an incredibly powerful performance by Emma, she's learned a lot over this last while, and this song was a very good example of the amazing skill she has in delivering a complex and deeply emotional song, depending on the screen size you were using, you might have noticed that the sound engineer behind Emma was completely broken several times by the power, emotion and strength of the song she was delivering, I'm guessing he hadn't been there for the rehearsals, so this caught him completely unprepared, and that's the sort of effect that Emma has on so many people, I've described it poorly, but in so many ways, Emma has an additional strength, and it's because she's found a way to build a different aspect into her performances, she's powerfully vulnerable, which is in one sense a contradiction in terms, but because of the way Emma has risen above her own health issues, she'd determined to not let it define her, she has found a way to expose her own vulnerability in this powerful way that makes it so clear that she's in no way looking for sympathy, but she's making it clear that she is indeed vulnerable, and she lets it come out in this incredible way that draws people in so close to her heart, and then, she grips their heart in an almost python like squeeze, and makes it so clear that she is in control, of her life, her health and the people around her, and she does lift people as a result, wonderfully.
The third song she did, a duet, they close it out with an exchange, some of it in Dutch, and some English, and Emma is asked 'Those stories, they should be kept alive, don't you think so Emma?', and her reply is so deep, so touching, 'I will, for as long as I can', and what's not been widely talked about, Emma is facing her own mortality as she's saying that, not too long before this event, Emma had to cope with the death of a close young friend from Gastroparesis, she sang an incredibly deep song, with no accompaniment, and at the end, as she's effectively talking to her friend in a different place, about 'is there a bar up there where we can sit and talk', and then she answers her own question with some incredibly deep and touching words, 'Yeah, I know, you'll tell me when I get there', that has to have been so hard for her, so deeply emotional, and something that most 15 year olds don't have to face in the way that Emma had to, it went deep.
That song is on RUclips, and I suspect that listening to it will be a few moments that reveal the absolute depth of her personality, she truly is an amazing young woman, mature beyond her years because of the awful circumstances of her illness, she is showing just how strong she can be,
This is the comments and notes that are in my files system, Emma put some comments in Dutch into the description that went with the video, and when I put them into Google translate, and realised the significance of this song, and the implications, when I then heard Emma's closing line, I have to admit, it broke me, and that's not something that at 72 happens very often, but right at that moment, I really felt for her.
When I Get There - @PinkVideoVault Unaccompanied short, very powerful, a song about the passing of a very close friend, given Emma's own situation, so incredibly deep and moving, just incredible.
Translation of the note in Dutch,
'Last night my dear friend Angela became a star! 💗
I'm going to miss you incredibly much, but every time I look at the starry sky I know you're looking back 💗 '

I'm not going to post a long message here, I close with my normal and heartfelt request to all the subscribers and readers of this channel,
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease that has affected her from birth, and requires her to be tied to the pumps and feeding tubes since she was 9 MONTHS old, for 22 hours a day, hopefully, the work of her foundation will find a cure.
One of their main people is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.
Thank you for watching and you are right.
I will definitely check out the foundation
I hear that the last four Mexico City concerts have been cancelled due to an outbreak of influenza. Wonder what that means for the Q & A?
@exeter1588 same thought went through my mind, I guess it will depend on who is affected, my suspicion is that it's Andre who is not well, so hopefully, Pierre might step in, but no telling.
@@stevecgarry Guess we'll have to wait and see.
It seems strange to me that aside from the announcement itself a few days ago, and with less than an hour til the announced start time, there is not a word about this Q & A on Andre Rieu's Facebook, Instagram or RUclips pages, or Emma's for that matter. Sorry to trouble you with this, but do you know anything I don't?
Great job. Thanks for reacting to this performance. The opening scene pans the American Military cemetery at Margraten just southeast of the Dutch city of Maastricht, and not far from Emma's home in Kerkrade. There are just over 8000 US soldiers buried there. My understanding is that many of those were killed in action taking the German city of Aachen just across the border in Germany. Aachen, I believe, was the first German city to fall to American forces in the war. There is a video of Emma walking among the graves and talking about the honor she felt having been invited to perform at this event on Liberation Day in the Netherlands, Sept. 2023. This performance was just barely two months after her performance of Voila in Maastricht. Not entirely sure, but I think she has been invited to perform again at Margraten on Liberation Day this year.
Thanks again. All the best.
Correction: I have just read @RogerClutton's comment to @anjoriesmits9849 and it seems her Liberation Day performance this year will not be at Margraten, but Amsterdam. Sorry for the mistake.
Thank you for that - Being a verteran that means a lot
Thanks Chris, for reacting to this beautiful and heartbreaking performance.❤❤
My step father was a captain in the Air Force. He helped liberate the camps , he would not talk about it. All he would say was it was unbelievable that one group of people would do that to another group.
Dear Chris, please thanks your uncle for his participation during WW2! Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
Did you see she made the sound man ... weepy at about 2/3rds of the way through. She was making grown man weep again!
Notice this was at an American WW2 War Cemetery.
This is a vid she did introducing the concert with English subs.

Thank you so much for that
The latest rememberance day ( 2024 ) ... in A'dam ... Emma did sing a duet with April Darby ( when You believe ) .. in front of the Duth Royal Family ... an event on the water in the city center !
For me she is an angel. I've heard everything from her from Voila last summer to today, some songs 100 times. every song she sings comes from her heart and soul. She feels what she sings in a way that always touches me. And she shows so much strength and power despite her own history. She is an inspiration to the world. God bless you Emma🙏
ce doit être très difficile pour les musiciens de jouer quand un ange chante tous on les yeux qui coule , ce doit être d' autent difficile super performance pour eux aussi Bravo.
More liberation concerts with Emma : Her voice and stage present is fantastic!
She is a natural for honoring fallen soldiers. Voice from heaven.
Her songs “You Raise Me Up”, “Hero”, “Father (you know)”, “When You Believe”. Right to the heart!!
16,000 US soldiers killed the liberating Holland 8000 buried in Holland! 😂 I been to Normandy and Netherlands military cemetery. Unbelievable what a loss..
Hello Chris, just like many others you are under the spell of Emma. I add a link from a performance by Emma. She sings her single laat mij een vlinder zijn (let me be a butterfly) which of course has to do with her desire to be free from her pumps and tubes. At this performance you can see how Emma always has a lot of contact with her audience.
Thanks Roger. I tried several times to add the link. It seems that the link is refused if added from the Netherlands@RogerClutton
Great Chris ... to also have YOUR back-ground story !

did you see the soundman breaking down
This video seems almost to have been shot on a cell phone - the sound quality is awful but her voice is still amazing.
I've been engineering live sound for 39 years and I can tell you there are many rehearsals for an event like this - look at the FOH sound guy behind her absolutely losing it. He's heard her sing it several times and still can't keep it together. I'm not commenting on his professionalism but on her singing - the Front of House guy did not get hired for an event like this without being at the top of his game, Emma just does that to people and probably doesn't fully understand how herself.
Look at one of her originals. Laat Mij Een Vlinder Zijn (Let Me Be a Butterfly) it's more of a pop song, and in Dutch of course, so you'll need lyrics, but very personal to her... written and performed when she was 13 and even then her talent was quite spectacular.
Edith Piaf 2.0 !
The music is a bit to loud its drowning Emmas voice
