Nowadays I mostly prefer Water Shuriken because it makes kiting very easy and Surf is so hard to play into all the hateful cc in the game
I run surf every game even with clefs and slowbros
Surf is way better when there are squishy attackers on there team, it does so much damage on lv 13
Do you run movement speed emblems? I feel like you can definitely notice a difference even if you only run charging charm and like normal +35/+105 movement speed emblems

I can’t ever hit anything with water shuriken
Surf and double team all the way great for closing gaps and getting away especially when you have yourself set up with brown and black emblems.
I am gold badge surf greninja player and shuriken is far worse for me to use which I tried & then never used it:
1. Shuriken can’t auto lock on the enemy,which needs you to lock on the target manually thus sometimes misses the target
2. Surf can refresh the cooldown if beat an enemy/wild Pokémon, this facilitates Greninja to smash the team battle & wild Pokémon in a short time
3. After using the unite move, you can use surf to kill multiple enemies ( even beat 4 & 5 enemies many times) in a short time cause of refresh cooldown feature of surf but Shuriken can’t which can only use on one target and thus put player in danger to face multiple players if the unite move can’t give them high damages
People don‘t like to use surf cause it needs player to be very sensitive about how to effectively use the 0 cooldown feature of surf to beat multiple players & wild Pokémon in a second, which is a pro requirement if u want to get used to it. Jake has shown you guys what I am talking about in 4:15
Also a gold badge ninja I prefer surf, but have had to learn to play shuiriken. There are times when your opponents go full beef and you don't want to surf into all-rounder. Other times your team needs poke and if your the only ranged attacker on your squad it's better to poke the enemy Frontline so your team can succeed.
While Surf has its merits, you're not running Surf into a bulkier comp no matter how much better it feels.
Surf vs Shuriken is completely dependent on team comp and Shuriken can do good into both Squishies and Bulkier mons while Surf is almost exclusively good into squishier comps where you can just ult in and jump them.
Not saying Surf is bad but I do think the meta influences Gren's choices more than any other mon due to the strengths and weaknesses of both the moves + the playstyles of both.
As a gold badge greninja im pretty sure u have your preference but probably not a good analogy here, you can surf all you want but up until u queqe solo and you come up with a coordinated trio and being match into their game

I am also a Master Greninja Player, I would say that Both builds are great, each build depends on the in game environment: the composition and play style of your allies and opponents.
I have always preferred this build
I may also be cringe but I like the BP as well, I think the “street wear” vibe is very fitting for ninja.
Both Shuriken & Surf have their fair share of effectiveness. I do perfer shuriken for kiting(and yes it’s inconsistent cuz your locked in 1 direction so anyone can get behind u and piece u up for it but thats also a skill issue if u can’t aim shuriken to deliver big damage). If enemy team is squishy then surf cooks hard but I hate having dash moves with high cooldown(Im aware of cd reset of surf & range autos reducing cooldown). For me, It’s also nice to have shuriken & Ult if im in a team fight so I can combo shuriken 1st & whoever has the lowest HP, pop ult to hit as many players as possible but mainly the one with the lowest to run they fade & then try to squad wipe the fight if possible
Surf is better and always will be with the current greninja although you shouldn't play this mon. Attackers are eaten alive in this meta unless its allrounder armarouge.
eh na gren after unite buff works quite well specially against mages like pika delfox and even some all rounders...ill rather say one shouldnt play surf in this meta shuriken does fine ...
@@bubuxvivmost of what you listed are other attackers. Playing something bad into something bad will work, but playing into actual meta Pokémon won’t (I know pika and delphox are some of the better ones but my point is there).
@@RedL1keRoses7 your point is about gren..my point was comparing between surf and shuriken gren..and definitely water shuriken is better than surf against against gyra , firespin armour, ceruledge etc as it is ranged
@@bubuxviv Even then surf is also a second dash while shuriken locks you into an exploitable attack animation for 1-3 seconds which is more than enough to kill greninja. Surf doesn't leave you vulnerable like shuriken and greninja is an a button spammer mon also known as ADC. Double team is easily abused against greninja by just using lock on icon to spot the real one right away so no mindgames can be played with DT either and Smokescreen gives some invulnerability frames even though its cooldown is longer and autos make the cooldown of surf much more manageable as well.

I've always sort of preferred water shuriken but surf can be fun too..i like changing it up
Surf is just too conditional if a the opponent mostly attacker / frail its better but overall i think water shuriken is more viable

I have such a horrible experience on solo q. 3 success reports on foul players in the last week, and 8 teammate idling confirmations. I really want to climb the ladder, but it gets so frustrating so fast. They don't even acknowledge half of the bad teammates, and I fall back so far.
I think all the move sets of each Pokémon are useful but for each situation, in this case, Greninja Surf is useful for when there are more easy targets to kill, and Greninja Shuriken for targets with more hp, in which you have to put more dps into it.

I prefer surf, but there are a lot of team comps nowadays where you cant really play it into. But on the other hand there is plenty of 5x attacker team comps aswell.

I’ve been playing almost solely Water Shuriken Greninja season and it feels so good. I have never cared for Greninja before but tried it with the Unite move changes. Grinded to masters with it in a short period of time because I think I had like a 70+% win rate or something playing a mix of path and central area. It made me realize that Greninja itself isn’t a bad Pokemon, just my teammates that would play it were bad 🤣

Hey Spragles, do you think you can make a video for emblem builds based on every character's role in the game? It's hard to grind for new emblem slots and I never have any idea what emblem builds I can use for general use of multiple Pokemon within the game I like to play, for example, making a single emblem build for Chandelure and Delphox that works great for the both of them

I hear you, but I prefer shuriken as it’s more adaptable imo. I’ve tried surf and when I go against bulk it’s too tedious to get them down with basics then finish them off with surf. Whereas shuriken, I just kite and poke until they’re dead.

Of course this build is better. People say “the right comp” but if you’re good enough you can honestly play surf into any comp the problem is 95% of gren mains straight up don’t play surf right. Also anyone who says double team is better than smoke screen please read the move descriptions 😭🙏 smoke screen is straight up better no arguments to be had

nah no matter what i like water shuriken more...surf just does too less damage and bad to farm with..and without getting ko on enemy you just get stuck in a very bad situation as a squishy pokemon..and i love the constant healing from shuriken too much
