Audrey also had a physically absent father and an emotionally absent mother. All her life, she only ever wanted to be loved, and she was and is still.

What made Audrey beautiful was she wasn’t trying to be anyone else but herself.

I really enjoyed this video and agree with your evaluation of Audrey Hepburn. I have always admired her beauty, grace, and elegant attitude so much that, 44 years ago I named my daughter, Audrey. Also, I’m glad you are back on RUclips 👏🏻

It’s tough sometimes being a woman, we are judged on our looks and personalities only. I was raised to be soft, feminine, polite and compliant. One year in my job review, I was told I had to be more assertive to “earn the respect” of my almost entirely male peers, my actual work performance got perfect reviews. I tried my best to be more assertive, while remaining true to my self. Then, in the following year my evaluation said that I was “too assertive”, again my actual work didn’t receive a single criticism or suggestion for improvement. All my male colleagues received reviews focusing on their work performance, like “improve writing skills”, “refresh math skills”, etc. But no, for me it was about my personality. I think the “too assertive” came from a military-reserve colleague who was always sexually harassing me (he was far from the only one). When, he in front of a group of his buddies, leeringly staring you-know-where, and loudly asked me what my bra size was, I told him he could retract and apologize for that inappropriate remark or I would report him. I probably should have just reported him, but the victim always suffers a lot for that, and I just wanted to get on with my work (I also heard a lot of that “who’s she sleeping with to get that corner office?” stuff). Yes, super-aggressive me, mildly standing up for my basic rights as a human being who unfortunately, thanks to the genetic lottery, happened to become voluptuous, despite all my strategies to downplay my traffic-stopping body, including baggy, shapeless clothes and bad posture. Now that I’m older and men don’t stare so much, I should work on my posture!

That's so sad! Nowadays it's rare to find a young lady who dresses nicely and has beautiful posture, possibly because of stories like yours (speaking as a 20 year old). I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and I hope you can find more peace and fulfillment moving forward from it.

I adore Audrey, and you have made many great points about her legacy. In a way, we can all carry her legacy further, like a candle that she lit, to bring some light into the darkness of the world.

I loved this series and the first two ladies featured, Her late Majesty and Audrey, both were were very classy, from the inside out. I hope you will include an episode on post-White House Jackie in this series. While her husband was President, her clothes were controlled by White House advisors, but we see her true, simple, elegant style after that, especially from the mid 60s through 90s. There is always too much focus on her First Lady style, which was never completely her own.

Hi sweety! Please don´t take this the wrong way, since I am also a huge Audrey Hepburn fan! But, she wasn´t living in western Europe when WWII started. She was born in The Netherlands and was actually living in a British boarding school at the beginning of the war. Her father, who had abandoned the family 3 years prior, had sent her there and her mother made her return to The Netherlands because rumor had it that England was going to suffer the most the consequences of the war. If you like, I highly recommend Donald Spoto´s bio about Audrey. I love your videos! XO

Hi Tati! Thanks for pointing that out… in Italy we consider England as being in Western Europe… my mistake. But yes! From what I’ve researched, she was in a boarding school in Kent, and in 1939 moved back to the Netherlands… can you imagine? What an absolutely insane time that must’ve been? We’re so blessed to not have lived through that…

So good to have you back, Mariana! I really love the intellectual content of your channel, thank you for this video! I am ballet dancer and you are right, one can immediately see the powerful effect of her good posture. I wish ballet was taught in schools to girld and boys alike (this would be ever more useful to compensate for the hunchback podture from using the phone!).

You look lovely and chic, very Audrey. I'd like to point out though that the reason why Audrey and so many other elegant women look amazing, graceful and chic is also because of their slimness, being slim in itself gives you a good posture and clothes hang so much better, making you look more classy and elegant. Ballet can also make you look stiff and walk like a duck with splayed feet (and give you ugly painful feet), it's full of unnatural movements, I'd rather do a more fluid and natural dance

Welcome back, Mariana! I was happy to follow you on Instagram while you were away from RUclips! I adore Audrey Hepburn and really enjoyed your video about her! A possible idea for a future video - as winter has embraced us here in Western Canada and the temperatures have dropped significantly in the past couple of weeks...could you possibly do a video on outer wear that is both stylish AND warm? My warmest coat/jacket doesn't go with everything and I end up looking - meh! (for lack of a better word). Thank you!!

Thank you for a deeper look beyond the look that is so famous. It's a nice and different idea that we, so good at being spectators these days, can also be learning from the famous people we see, and following up that learning by doing, by being in improved ways, even in our everyday lives. We can affect so many people and events, even those of us who are not celebrities.
