Aphrodite and her statues are the reason why I haven’t given into the toxic beauty standards for over three years now; we have an extremely similar body structure and learning my feminine personality structure (the lover) made me fall more in love with myself and romanticize my similarities with Aphrodite. My friends now even say I give off Aphrodite vibes and I loveee it. I truly believe that ancient art could really heal modern femininity and our insecurities within our society because they look like women of all types of shapes and portrays beauty in many various ways. I’ve always been a fan on ancient cultures and sculptures but who knew they could also be my beauty inspiration in the future?? 💕

The biggest thing for me in the conversation about beauty is not whether or not it exists, but how we treat people who do not "have it". I think most people can agree there is some sort of standard, and criticize it, but most people end up reacting to how it influences one's life. While there is a unconscious element to this, I think of how "ugly men" can be perceived as creepy or how "ugly women" are ignored. A lot of people are invested in *how* beauty is used at the moment vs examining their own reaction to it day to day.

I’ve always liked that classic beauty, it had no flaws literally.
And Aphrodite mostly had ginger hair with pale skin and blue eyes as she was the “beauty standard” in Ancient Greece.
Even in slave markets men would choose redheads not only it was a rare beautiful desired hair colour, but they would say that redheads give good luck.
Even Achilles was described to be redhead or strawberry blonde.

I have been traveling and the perception of beauty changes a lot. Just for context my features are pale skin, blue eyes, dirty blonde hair, rounder jaw, smaller lips, and skinny.
In my country I've been called a stick and sickly, having no big curves and being so pale. Even was relentlessly bullied by boys in middle school for it.
But when I visit Asia or middle eastern countries, it changes dramatically. Suddenly people compliment me a lot and approach me constantly.
The general perception of beauty is influenced by the culture, history and media. While there is simultaneously also an individual perception. Which can be influenced by personal experiences, personalities and biology

Ancient gods didn't just represent actual beings, they represented the very concepts, philosophy, and energies of what they stood for (beauty, peace, power, etc.). That's why those particular gods of different civilizations varied from region to region in how they looked and acted.
Ancient gods aren't just divine beings; they're concepts, qualities, and ideas within consciousness.
    That's just my personal opinion.

I find spiders beautiful, my husband finds them terrifying. I think beauty is often perspective.
“Health and fertility” is BS as the mega thin trend that still persists literally kills fertility. Many speculate its origins being from the “tragic beauty” of young Victorian women who were dying of consumption. Then there’s the fact that dead young women have ALWAYS been seen as things of beauty. Literally dead.
There’s also the vast number of men who are attracted to teenagers (men who parrot “it’s fine, she’s legal!” When a 50 year old man dates a 18 year old, who would certainly be fine with younger if younger was legal) despite the fact that teenagers who give birth are far more likely to die of complications than a woman over the age of 22.
You can not convince me that 80-90% of beauty standards are not expressions of the patriarchy rather than biology. (Though I wouldn’t say YOU were trying to do that, that’s a general you. You, as the creator of the video, gave a very balanced outlook)

  • @marelythecrybaby
    @marelythecrybaby 23 дня назад +5

Okay but adding to discussion and regardless of what everyone says, I think there are just people we find objectively attractive even if we don't necessarily know why. It's probably a closer link to biology and whatnot and yes, beauty standards exist, but there's always going to be some celebrity out there that is well known for being attractive and yet they have a feature or features that isn't considered part of the standard. There are gorgeous people with flat noses, monolids, chubby cheeks, big foreheads, crooked noses, thin lips, etc the list goes on almost anything you can think of. So, going back to the discussion I don't really think there will ever be an answer to this sort of topic about what defines physical beauty and why. Everyone has different tastes on what they like, and they can go against beauty standards but at the end of the day, most of us can still recognize that objective beauty wether it fits the current trends and standards or not.
The Kardashians once stood out from the skinny trend and they were still considered beautiful then- that's something to think about.

That is north african, west asian, levantine etc. Their noses usually also point down wich european noses dont no nearly as often, and their nasal brindges although well developed are not as high as europeans. My only standard for beauty is relative symmetry and for someone to not have visible traits of genetic or health abnormalities (its nothing personal, but as a female, the genetic health of the next generation is something i should be taking into account. Oh and also that you smell good. And have a non annoying voice. Theses more types of beauty than visual

I think her appearance was based on the beauty standards of her time. Its quite ironic if u think about it because even the most beautiful goddess in the greek mythology is bound by what that society deems as beautiful.

I dont know many men who care all that much about the body. Most women i see, even in dance class, arent proportionate, are a bit chubby, have cellulitis etc. Men it seems actually dont care. Sure it's a plus if she has a nice body but they want a beautiful face before everything.
I am blessed with a nice body and face. Having a nice body at 30+ isnt that common. I have a narrow hourglass. So firm breast, small and flat tummy and round bum. Let me tell you. Besides a quick compliment or two, and sometimes not even, i dont feel that my body actually matters to them. They much prefer what i can do with it... it is very bizarre. I feel sad for women who spend their time sculpting their bodies at the gym only to look hot to them. Because truly that isnt even that important to them.

You don't feel it matters to them because you already have what they want as per your own words describing yourself to have a nice body and face. Become a bit fat and see if things change,or just listen to women with different less "acceptable" body and their experience. Sometimes privilege isn't so clearly an advantage but a lack of struggle which seems to be your case.

@@elalala576 Statistically speaking there are not that many lonely women, especially compared to men. Men in general really don't have high standards when it comes to women's beauty. Most are okay with dating not very attractive women, and if you want to be deemed as attractive by them it's possible and not too difficult for most women - don't be fat, brush your hair, use a little makeup. As a man, I really wish people applied to me the same "unrealistic" beauty standards they do to women.
