You've calmed some of my anxiety about finding my way around the train station and using the Shinkansen during my first solo trip to Japan that I'll be taking this April! Thank you!!
Exactly. I’ve travel a lot but this trip to Japan for the first time has me stressed. So much to plan . But so excited at the same time. This video is great .
This video was EXTREMELY helpful. I went to Japan at the start of the year and ended up getting on the slowest Shinkansen on my way from Nagoya to Tokyo by accident and it took FOREVER. I'm going back to Japan in about a month and now I feel confident that I won't get on the wrong train again. THANK YOU!
I'm posting this comment so more people can see this video. A few apps have somewhat helped ease my worry but this is a video actually showing the process of using the machine and how the system works. Thank you very much.
Dude, out of all the videos I've watched, nobody else has mentioned platt kodama and they push the JR pass this blows JR pass out the water for someone who is well organised. Thank you, you probably just saved me and the Mrs £80 🎉
Thank you for watching. I wrote in description but somehow they deleted English purchase page for Platt Kodama after this video, so now you might need to go to the counter of JR Central Tours before the departure date. It doesn't come with beer, but you can also save with online reservation for both regular car and green car. ruclips.net/video/zjiIWXZNr5Q/видео.html Hope you have a great trip.
I used this video for my Shinkansen, and it was PERFECT. Followed it to the T, and had the video playing with me on my phone whilst inside the train station. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Hi Kenchan San, been to japan several time but forgot two things: 1. Is it possible if we purchase JR pass non reserved for 14 days from agency then when u arrive in japan, i would make a reservation seats at JR counter with extra cost? I believe it can be done but not sure lol. 2. If we use non reserved seats, can we book a reserved seats with large baggage at the JR counter? Last time i booked JR green pass and put the luggage at the back of the seats while i was seating in the middle lol but they didnt charge me.
Hello Husein san, I apologize I haven't answered sooner. If you purchase 14 days pass from agency, you can make reservation without any additional cost at the counter. The pass is choice of regular car or green car, and there aren't any pass for specifically "non-reserved seat". Yes, you used to be able to keep your luggage in the back as there were no rules before, but now that space is only for reservation. You can make reservation at the counter. I hope it helps.

Thank you for your videos, this particular one is great! I'm travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto for the first leg of my tour of Japan next April, and I found this video very informative and concise. 🚅
This is exactly the information I needed. I have a JR Rail pass and will be flying into Haneda on 2 days. I’ll be traveling from Yokohama to Kyoto then to Osaka then back to Tokyo. Good to know how to stow your luggage and which seats to reserve. Great video!!! Thank you
Thank you for this video! I'm trying to plan how I'll travel next month from Akita to Hakata. I'm traveling by Shinkansen for my first time from Tokyo but I had a couple of worries, especially considering I don't have any backup plans to stay in Tokyo during my trip. This cleared up pretty much all of my worries about things I should be aware of, and gave me some comfort and confidence I'll make it without any problems!
Thank you for watching! I'm glad if you found the video helpful. The luggage rule applies to only between Tokyo to Kyushu. Akita to Hakata by Shinkansen sound very exciting! Akita Shinkansen in deep snow is one of the ride in my bucket list. :)
Very helpful info. Specially explaining which one is available with JR PASS. We tried reserving it on the ticket kiosk but didn’t know which train we should be on other Not the Nozomi. I will try booking it myself again later as the line to talk to representatives are ridiculously long. Thanks again
Yes, the line is quite long and the machine is not that difficult. It only show you the trains you can get on, so no worry. Hikari is the fastest one you can take with the JR pass. I wish you good luck. :)
Great video! We traveled before by shinkansen and when possible always booked the last row to put our luggage. We have medium size checked luggage totalising about 140 cm. If I interpreted the new rule correctly, they are not considered oversize…but still, I doubt they fit well in the overhead compartment. Experience anyone?
I got confused with how to book the bullet train I just went to the station and used spoke to the staff. Super helpful she spoke a little English and I just pointed at stuff on google maps and google translate. I love japan and will visit again. She book same day back and forth ticket very expensive I know but I want to go on a day trip.
Thank you for watching and your message. You can use credit card in the most of the places but cash is a must have to purchase / topup IC cards, dinning out in some local shops. I hope you don't worry too much and enjoy planning. :)
Stumbled upon your channel while preparing for our trip this March. Excellent advice, thank you so much! Securing train tickets and planning is daunting but your video is very helpful. Thanks for pointing out which side of the train has which view, my griflriend will be very happy to know this. Is it OK to recline on the train? A lot of Americans find it rude for airplane travel so I do not want to impose if it is not acceptable on trains.
Thank you for finding my channel! I'm glad you found it helpful. Seat D/E (regular seats) C/D (green car) are Mt.Fuji side. If you travel on regular car, mountain side is better anyway as ocean side has 3 seats and someone comes next to you. As for the reclining seat, I think it's similar here with the US. On the short distance highway bus or domestic flight, I don't see many people recline. But it's common to recline seats on Shinkansen, as you have so much more space between the front seats even in regular cars, and the starting position of the seats are straight up which is hard to see the window. I usually recline my seat on Shinkansen as soon as I arrive the seat. :)
Thank you so much for this video! Being able to book tickets on the website you provided has alleviated my worries on securing oversized baggage seats.
Omg arigato for this! Growing up watching anime, I've always wanted to try an ekiben bento because the characters always eat that whenever they travel huhu. Btw I searched everywhere for JR Pass users via Hikari Shinkansen, reservations must be made in the ticket office and not in advance online. Hopefully I'll get one because I have luggage otherwise I might just jikukan ninjutsu my way to Kyoto and back to Tokyo next week lol.
hahaha, you can use ninjutsu and move cities with your suitcases, but you will miss the most important part - ekiben.. You are right. The Smart EX is not for JR Pass holders. It seems only if you purchase JR pass from official JR group site, you can make reservation online in advance. Am I correct? japanrailpass.net/en/purchase.html#anchor04
@@tokyokenchan checked this one out and yes. You can only reserve seats online if you bought your JR pass at the JR website. If the pass was bought from a third party (which is always cheaper) it’s not possible. 😩
@@MissAstoria19 san, thank you for checking. I appreciate it since I get several questions about this. It seems it's a good idea to spare some time on the day of arrival to Japan or next day for lining up at the JR counter. :)

Thank you
Thank you. I'm glad you found the video helpful. I wish you the best trip in Japan. :)
Thank you, im going to Osaka this week from Tokyo
Thank you for taking your time to watch. I wish you the best trip to Osaka. :)
Thank you for the video my friend. This was so helpful
Thank you for watching. I'm glad you found the video helpful. :)
This was so helpful. I feel like I’m there! Arigato gosaimasu.

Thank you for watching always Peter san!
Really excellent video, thank you. The online booking option will great for our next trip :)
Rob san, thank you for watching my video. I'm glad you liked it! :)
I am from India, staying in Tokyo, you helped a lot, for providing all information about places in japan
Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you found it helpful.
Very helpful when visiting Japan.
I got confused with how to book the bullet train I just went to the station and used spoke to the staff. Super helpful she spoke a little English and I just pointed at stuff on google maps and google translate. I love japan and will visit again. She book same day back and forth ticket very expensive I know but I want to go on a day trip.
I'm glad to hear you encounter the great staff that helped you. Thank you for watching and sharing. :)
I enjoy learning from your video. Keep it up
Thank you for watching and your message. :)

Brilliant video, thank you very much!!!
Thank yo for watching! Have a great trip on Shinkansen.
Excellent detail video and very helpful. We all need details to plan out trip and reduce anxiety for sure. Love it!
Thank you for watching and your message. You can use credit card in the most of the places but cash is a must have to purchase / topup IC cards, dinning out in some local shops. I hope you don't worry too much and enjoy planning. :)
Very informative, Thank You!
Your videos are so soothing and puts my Japan trip planning at ease. Thank you for all the details!
Thank you for your kind comment about my video! I hope you have a great trip in Japan. :)
Thank you, very good and informative video 👍🏻☺️
Thank you for watching the video and leaving a comment. :)
Thank you very much, we will use your advice to book oversized luggage. Hopefully Mount Fuji will not be behind clouds when we visit!
Very, very helpful and clear instructional video, with great tips as well. Thank you v much❤
This is a great video. Thanks for making it.
Thank you for watching and your message:)
Thank you so much for this video! Being able to book tickets on the website you provided has alleviated my worries on securing oversized baggage seats.
Hello Mairi san, I'm so glad to hear that you could book your ticket. Have a great trip in Japan. :)
You are wonderful person, sir, keep going on
Thank you so much for your kind words. :)
Thank you for your video & good information. We will travel to Japan March/April 2025.
Your video provided excellent information.
Kenchan. Good to see you again ❤
Nice to see you again. :)
@@tokyokenchan will let you in on more info so you can in your vids when i go next week 😁
Thank you! I wish you the best trip in Japan. The weather seems nice. :)
Detailed video - makes sense to take green car on kodama than the other two.
