Hey Kenchan, boarded my first Shinkansen ride bounding to Kyoto. Thanks to your guide!
One suggestion, it seems like upon passing through the shinkansen gate, on top of the printed Shinkansen ticket, the IC card needs to be scanned as well?
I was bound from Tamachi station and my wife handed the IC card to the official by the shinkansen gate and she just scanned our cards while helping us through.
Could you add this step into the guide so friends riding for first time will have the IC cards ready and not disturbing the commuting crowd - especially during morning rush hour. 😂

I was unable to get any credit card to work with SmartEx. Some people report having success so it would be very helpful to know what cards they were using or what they did differently. What happens is that you start the registration process but as soon as you type in your card info and hit Verify, it says "Since card could not be verified you must start over" and then puts up a page of Japanese text.

Taking the case from 11:52 in your video for example, can I just tap my ICOCA to cover the extra fare since I already linked my Shinkansen ticket to my card? Will it auto deduct the amount from my card? Do I have to separately purchase train tickets for the extra stations?

@@tokyokenchan Thanks for your reply! I book it through Klook that’s why i don’t have a choice of seats. I tried to book through Smart Ex, but they won’t accept my Master card! So I was frustrated and ending up book with Klook! Regret doing that! 😬

Yes, you can. Only train you cannot hop on even though you can get on is, Shinkansen / Limited express that you need reservation. The Shinkansen shown "All Reserved" on the map @20:23 of this video, you need reservation.

Can i collect the tickets from machine at HND airport? My destination is Osaka i’m about to book the tickets.

Yes, There is a JR counter at T3 of Haneda Airport next to the monorail ticket gate. If you are using EX, you can just get on with QR code on your phone. No need to collect tickets.

Thank you for your help. Apparently, I can’t use EX so i have booked Shinkansen from Klook with nozomi line with reserved seats. Can i still redeem tickets from JR counter at HND airport and choose the seats with luggages?
