Thank you for watching! That’s exciting you are visiting Kyoto in January. Probability a fun, bright air of the New Year in Kyoto. I wish you the best trip :)
@@essie4254 @Essie The recommending places I visited in Kyoto first would be Heian Jinju Shrine which has a good Japanese Traditional garden and watch ritual ceremony. The next would be Ryoan-ji next to Kinkakuji which you could stay calm for a while. HI Kenchan, what you said at the end is correct. Always allow more time for the bus journeys as there were many times i had to stand due to lack of space in the buses. i chose to stay in omiya area as we wanted to stay near nishiki market and the shopping district. because of this choice we took the hankyu line to omiya instead of jr line. another advantage of staying near a hankyu station is that we could easily take it to arashiyama. it was a wise choice for us!

Hello, Thank you for subscribing! That sounds like an interesting topic! I'm not sure if I have enough experience to talk about them, 😅 so it takes time but I'll work on that in the future! I can talk a little bit about Kyoto within my hotel experience. For Ryokan with two meals, I liked "Gion Fukuzumi" which is located right in front of Chionin Temple. For relaxed stay, I loved "Westin Miyako" near Keage station. It's important to get a room overlooking Higashiyama if possible, and early morning walk to Nanzenji temple was a precious experience. But I liked the location of "The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa", and "Nishitetsu Solaria". Both are near Kawaramachi - which is a center of the city, and a perfect if you like to walk around at night. I've stayed at a guesthouse with shared bath in Kyoto too, but it seems they don't exist anymore. Sorry I couldn't be much of your help, but I'll work on those topics in the future.!
Lovely stuff. Thank you. May I make two recommendations? Forget the buses and the underground; hire a bicycle. Thank you for this video. I've been there once before a long time ago and going back soon. I found this video to mirror my exact feelings and experience from last time but learned a lot as well. Thank you!
Thank you for the great video! I can’t wait to visit Kyoto 😊 I wondered if you could advise me on which dates in November 2023 it would be best for me to travel to see autumn leaves? Would it be better for A) November 17-22 or B) November 21-26? I heard that November 23 is a public holiday (labour appreciation day) in Japan and I was worried about too many crowds then, but wondered if the autumn leaves would be nicer a bit later in November? Thank you so much in advance! 🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing this video; it’s most informative! I’m planning a trip to Kyoto- hopefully for cherry blossom in early April 2023. I hv just returned from Osaka early Feb having been lost in most train stations😅😂
Hello, that's great you are coming back to Japan so soon. I got lost in Osaka too. 😅 Early April, you should be able to see cherry blossoms in Kyoto. 🌸
I really appreciate you make these informative and insightful videos about Japan. They're very helpful for first timer like me. I plan to visit Kyoto for a day trip from Osaka in the beginning of June. Is it possible to visit Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Gion area, Nishiki Market and Kiyomizu-dera temple in one day? Which one should I put aside as an optional place to visit? Would love to hear from you. Thanks
If you can leave early, it’s possible. (1) Umeda to Arashiyama in the morning by Hankyu railway, see Arashiyama (2) move to JR’s Saga Arashiyama station, take JR to Inari station via Kyoto station, see Fushimi Inari (3) walk to Keihan Railway’s Fushimi Inari station, take Keihan to Gion Shijo, see Gion and walk up to Kiyomizu (4) walk back or take taxi to Nishiki market. Probably by the Kiyomizu temple, you are exhausted unless you are super 💪🏻 strong. 😅 I personally recommend to put aside Nishiki market.
We will be visiting Kyoto with two kids in December. We are thinking of taking taxi/shared ride as main mode of transportation. Is it easy to hail a cab? Does Kyoto have Uber? Or any other shared ride? Thank you 🙏
Hello. Thank you for watching. I think taxi would be the best transportation method in Kyoto if you visit with kids. Uber apps (also GO and DiDi) exist in Japan but you only can call taxi. I'm covering that topic in 2 later video but it's a great way to call taxi. Also you can just raise your hand to stop the taxi. It's not the cheapest choice but sparing some budget for that would make your trip much easier in Kyoto.
I was planning to visit Kyoto in a few months (from France) and your video was exactly what I needed! Precise information and great recommendations all along the video. Thank you! PS: I really love your English :)
Going to visit Kyoto for a day trip from Osaka in January '23 after staying in Tokyo for 6 nights. Never been to Japan and looking forward to it! I do agree after doing my own research that Kyoto isn't well connected by the trains. Will probably have to taxi it around a bit in order to save time. Cheers for the tips!
That's great you are visiting Japan next month for the first time!! Yes, taking taxi time to time make your trip much easier in Kyoto. Only Fushimi Inari is right in front of JR station. I wish you the best trip in Japan. :)
Hello, thank you for this very helpful video! Which station is more convenient for day trips? (Nara, Hiroshima, Osaka). I was about to book a hotel near Kyoto station but your tip came just in time :)
@@tensa7132 Can you recommend your hotel near by kyoto station? we are going this June. Thank you! we are coming from osaka stay for 4 nights in kyoto. then tokyo
Hi, this is our first time to Japan. Which area of hotel do you recommend we should stay? Near by Kyoto station or Kawaramachi area? we are family of 4 with 2 teens and we are coming from Osaka and stay in Kyoto for 4 nights to see tourist attractions & walk around/eat&shop then travel to Tokyo (Shinkansen bullet train.) with 6 luggage. If you can suggest?
Hi. If the 6 luggage is not the size fit into one taxi, I personally recommend you to get the hotel near Kyoto station. A lot more choice of hotels and easy to get to JR lines and subways. If you travel from Osaka to Kyoto by train. Kyoto statoin is JR and Kawaramachi is Hankyu Kyoto line, and both can be easily accessible form Osaka (Umeda) station. But if you are leaving for Tokyo after, it must be much easier to stay near Kyoto station. Might not have much feeling of Kyoto, and not in walking distance to major spots.
Thank you so much! I think I will stay in the Kawaracmachi area instead. I want to walk to many attractions like markets, street food and feel the Kyoto@@tokyokenchan
Arashiyama looks wonderful to visit, Kengo-san. If I were there, I will surely spend a lot of time in the bamboo park and the tree-lined paths. There are also lots of transportation options available, and this means we can travel the manner we would like. I would prefer the slower trains, perhaps, so that I can vividly remember the beautiful sceneries. Also, IC cards are also accepted here -that's good.! Thank you very much for the insightful and thoughtful video, Kengo-san. 🙂
Gio-san, thank you for watching! I like your idea of enjoying Kyoto, such as seeing the scenery from slower trains and staying in Arashiyama longer to walk around the bamboo forest. Recently, I also found that’s the best way to spend time in Kyoto, in stead of rushing to tens of temples. Yes! It's convenient that I can use IC cards from Tokyo on buses and trains in Kyoto too. Thank you again Gio san. :)
Very informative video. Thank you. I heard the Higashiyama area is very scenic with old buildings but things close very early. Is it true? I like to eat late and do coffee shop or ice cream afterward
Yes, things close early in Higashiyama area. Starbucks in Ninenzaka is open until 8pm. It's nice to stroll around the quiet area after dinner though. :) Have a great trip in Kyoto.
Thank you for watching. Shrines are usually no charge, so Fushimi Inari, Heian Jingu, are good places to visit. Nanzenji Temple's water bridge is also no charge unless you go up the gate or go to the main building.
Hello, so far this is the only one I found that you can take a private bath without stayting at the ryokan. www.hanaikada.co.jp/english/onsen.html For the snow, Kyoto is not a place gets lots of snow regularly, so it really depends on the weather of the day. Have a great trip.
5:50 Hi, planning to go to Kyoto this June for 3 nights and 4 days. Wanted to see a lot of places. You think it would be best to rent a car and drive around instead than using bus and trains? Would you recommend it?
Hi. It's possible. Not all places have parking space, but you can find some coin parking near the destination. If you are ok about driving in Japan especially in cities and finding parking spots, cost for rental car and parking, it's a good way to travel. I feel it's all about the difficulty of driving in Japan (left side) and cost. Have a great trip in Kyoto.
If you like to get around by train, I recommend near Kyoto station or anywhere near subway station. I psersonally like to stay near Gion Shijo, Kiyomizu Gojo, Sanjo, Higashiyama, Keage, stations as it's fun to walk the area.
thankyou for making this video. what month did you visit kyoto in this video? I plan to go there next year, but still considering what month should I go.
Hello, Thank you for watching the video. I visited in mid October for this video and the next Kyoto video. The other video includes a little bit of footage from mid November too that you can see more colors of tress. Either Autumn or Cherry Blossom Season are popular seasons to visit Kyoto. 🌸🍂
@@tokyokenchan I kindly need your advice, if I go there on 15-24 March, is it better to visit Kyoto or Tokyo first? I realy want to see cherry blossom, or at least greeneries when I strolling around. As I know that early march is end of winter, I'm afraid that I can't get any greeneries there on that date.
The full bloom of cherry blososm in Tokyo was March 22nd in 2021, and 27th on 2022. Usually Kyoto is a few days late and it was March 26 on 2021, March 30 in 2022. March is still winter and not much green on trees, but you'll see many Spring flowers and the color of town is much better than February. :)
Hi, yes. If you plan the route ahead and stick to the attractions that you can walk from stations, it is possible. Arashiyama -(JR to Inari) - Fushmi Inari -(Keihan Line to Gion Shijo) - Kiyomizu would be good route. It might be a bit difficult to go to Kinkakuji, time wise, energy wise, but some people do. Have a great trip in Kyoto. :)
Hi Tokyo Kenchan, I will be in Kyoto in August 2024. I will be staying 1 night/2 days. I have a JR Pass. I will be site seeing places like Kiyomizudera, Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama Bamboo Forest , Nishiki market, Gion area. Then I will be catching JR train to Osaka. Where should I stay in Kyoto? I am told to stay in Downtown Kawaramachi. However, there is no JR lines there. I would like to stay in a business area and be able to walk 15 mins to Gion and be able to walk 10 mins to Kyoto Station as I will need to catch the JR train from Kyoto Station several times. Where would you suggest I stay based on the info I provided?
Hi. From Kyoto statoin to Gion is about 30-40 min. by walking, so the ideal spot for you would be somewhere in between on the map. If you leave your luggage at the hotel, it might be better to stay near Kyoto station as it's much easier to walk 20 min. longer without any luggage than 10 min. walk with luggage. If you like to stay closer to Gion, that would be near Kiyomizu Gojo station. There are hotels like Avest Grande Kiyomizu Gojo, Double Tree Kyoto Higashiyama.
Can you please let me know what taxi apps that are commonly used in Kyoto to get a taxi? Is Uber, Didi or other ? Or you just simply wave at a taxi on the road? Thanks so much
I think Didi is good because they have available in different languages. You can also raise your hands to taxi. I used taxi 3 times during this trip, but I raised hands as I was at the major streets. Have a great trip in Kyoto. :)
Hello Kelly san, many temples have differnet types of ways to access by wheelchairs. For example, Kiyomizu temple says you can go around the major parts of the temples with wheelchairs. (Map)www.kiyomizudera.or.jp/en/img/visit/map_for_wc.pdf Some sites such as Nijo castle, Nanzenji temple ask you to change to their wheelchairs made for indoor. I'll take a closer look when I visit Kyoto next time.
I don’t know anyone personally but I try to use Mk taxi when I’m in Kyoto. They have good reputation for hospitality. This is the English site. They take you around by car and guide you too. www.mktaxi-japan.com
I am interested in getting the Icoca card. I’ll be spending 7 Days & 6 Nights in Kyoto. Will need to travel from Osaka Kansai (FIX) Airport to a hotel in Kyoto via Shinkansen + Bus/Train. My itinerary evolves around Kyoto only. Should I just use Icoca for every busses/trains in Kyoto or is there any other better option e.g. 1-Week Pass etc.? P.S.: After a week in Kyoto I will take a return flight at Osaka Kansai Airport (FIX). No in-between stop over or any such. Literally, Osaka-Kyoto.
Hello. In that case, i think get Icoca at Kix with cash and purchase round trip ticket of Haruka to Kyoto (direct access) is the best and fastetst way unless you have special reason to get off at Shin-Osaka and change to Shinkansen. Kyoto only has one day pass for now, so it might be easier to get the day pass for the day you get around a lot, and charge Icoca time to time and use them for other days. For KIX-Kyoto, this video might help. ruclips.net/video/BMDV6Ex0Uw4/видео.html Thank you for asking.

Thanks for this really informative video Kenchan, planning to visit Kyoto in the late March, I hope I can fit every place in 2 days visit
Thank you for your comment. How nice you visit in late March for cherry blossoms! I wish you the best time in Kyoto. 🌸 :)
This was very informative. Thank you for taking the time to make it and your other videos
Thank you for watching. I'm glad you found it informative. Also, I really appreciate your kind words.
Thank you for this video. I've been there once before a long time ago and going back soon. I found this video to mirror my exact feelings and experience from last time but learned a lot as well. Thank you!
Thank you. I'm glad to hear you are trying Kyoto again. I wish the best trip in Kyoto. :)
Thank you. This was helpful

thank you so much for sharing the very useful information!!! 👍👍👍 😇😇😇
Thank you for watching and commenting! :)

Hope you enjoy it.
Another truly fantastic video❗️☺️
Curtis san, Thank you so much for your message. :)
@@tokyokenchan I am coming to Tokyo in April , your information you provide is brilliant and can’t wait to experience Tokyo!
Great help! Thankyou!!!
Hello, thank you for this very helpful video! Which station is more convenient for day trips? (Nara, Hiroshima, Osaka). I was about to book a hotel near Kyoto station but your tip came just in time :)
Hello. If you are going day trips to those destinations, it's better to stay near JR Kyoto station. Thank you for watching. :)
Thank you! :) sorry for late reply. We have booked a lovely place near the station @@tokyokenchan
Do We have to book hotel before go to kyoto or ???
Very informative video. Thank you. I heard the Higashiyama area is very scenic with old buildings but things close very early. Is it true? I like to eat late and do coffee shop or ice cream afterward
Yes, things close early in Higashiyama area. Starbucks in Ninenzaka is open until 8pm. It's nice to stroll around the quiet area after dinner though. :) Have a great trip in Kyoto.
@tokyokenchan thank you for the tip. Things stay open much later on the other side of the river right?
Wow just awesome one question we know we pay everywhere, is any places you suggest around kyoto where one needs no tickets to enter .
Thank you for watching. Shrines are usually no charge, so Fushimi Inari, Heian Jingu, are good places to visit. Nanzenji Temple's water bridge is also no charge unless you go up the gate or go to the main building.
Can you please write the best areas to stay in Kyoto ? I couldn’t catch this in your video.
How is the weather like in Feb? I'm going Osaka and Kyoto in Feb! Weeeee
That's great you are visiting Osaka and Kyoto soon! In Osaka city and Kyoto city, it's cold but mostly sunny, sometimes snow.
Can you just hop in any train included in the JR pass? or do you need to do reservations ahead? how long ahead?
yes, You can make reservation when you arrive the station, but you can also hop on the non-reserved seats with the pass.
is there a place where i can rent traditional kimonos?
Thk you for the video. Where in Kyoto can you find onsen for couples without checking into ryokan? And where is best to see snow around Kyoto? Thk you
Hello, so far this is the only one I found that you can take a private bath without stayting at the ryokan. www.hanaikada.co.jp/english/onsen.html For the snow, Kyoto is not a place gets lots of snow regularly, so it really depends on the weather of the day. Have a great trip.
@Tokyo Kenchan thank you for the feedback, have a nice day.
Great video! Is it ok to travel to kyoto from tokyo, and back to tokyo on the same day, like a day trip?
Yes, definitely. If you leave Tokyo early, that is possible. You can do a lot if you plan well. :)
Cảm ơn những hướng dẫn thật chi tiết của bạn! Nhật Bản thật đẹp!
Thank you. :)
What is the area you recommend staying in?
@@tokyokenchan are those date on those year match with the forecast?
Hi there! Is it possible to explore popular tourist attractions such Kyomizu temple, Arashiyama bamboo forest, etc. in one day?
@@tokyokenchan Thank you for your response. I will look at the map again.
Don't they have the train from kix direct to Kyoto anymore? It's how I've always done it. No need to change trains.
JR Haruka Limited Express train is train to Kyoto direct from airport.
@@mickyster4397 Hello, yes. Haruka takes you to Kyoto directly. I'm introducing Haruka @1:56 of this video.

Is Kyoto wheelchair accessible? Are there ramps to and from the temples?
Hello Kelly san, many temples have differnet types of ways to access by wheelchairs. For example, Kiyomizu temple says you can go around the major parts of the temples with wheelchairs. (Map)www.kiyomizudera.or.jp/en/img/visit/map_for_wc.pdf Some sites such as Nijo castle, Nanzenji temple ask you to change to their wheelchairs made for indoor. I'll take a closer look when I visit Kyoto next time.

could you recommended a good personal tour guide for family of 4 adults in Kyoto
I don’t know anyone personally but I try to use Mk taxi when I’m in Kyoto. They have good reputation for hospitality. This is the English site. They take you around by car and guide you too. www.mktaxi-japan.com
@@tokyokenchan thank you Ken
can we get to Kyoto from Osaka airport? in train?
From Osaka Airport (ITM), Yes, you can take Monorail and change to Hankyu Kyoto line. You can also take a bus. 👍
@@tokyokenchan Thank you for the tips. This will be my first trip to Japan.
Have you ever been to shirakawago?
Yes. I went by a bus tour from Takayama. :)

Are you able to use a credit card? I don’t have any debt cards with zero foreign transaction fees.
Yes, many shops and almost all hotels accept credit cards. In some small shops or restaurants, you can only use cash in Kyoto.
