The legendary Donald Pleasance gave Michael Myers that aura and Mystique while playing Dr.Loomis so much so that I’d dare say without Loomis the franchise would not have reached such success. Some of the best dialogue I’ve ever seen in film build up a character so powerful.
Without Loomis all we have in Myers is a character design, people seriously underestimate how significant Loomis is to the series. There's a reason they've twice now tried to rewrite Laurie into a "new Loomis", why Kills has the whole town talking like Loomis despite it being totally illogical and coming off as pretty dumb. Problem is, without the specific relationship to Myers, the background/personality and the history that Loomis has, this role doesn't work. But without this role, Myers is literally just a character design walking through sets. The inherent forward momentum of the character also adds a hell of a lot to the sequels he's allowed to feature prominently in, whereas with say Laurie, they have to artificially inflate her role in order to retain her relevance to a plot (sister twist, Sartain in h18, etc.) I'm all for a full reboot of the series after Ends that excludes Laurie at least for a while, but whilst many fans say we should have all new characters, I really think that Loomis is a must to some capacity in each new iteration - without him the whole story and villain fall apart.

@@ahtaystamcauther9376 that’s actually just a theory if you’re referring to the Thorn Trilogy and H20. Those are two separate timelines, all of which are separate timelines from the 2018/Kills/Ends Trilogy.
Different timelines. In the one this video talks abt she died in a car crash, in the h20 timeline she fakes her death and uses a fake name, in the Halloween 2018 timeline we pick up 40 years after Halloween 1978 and the movies between (Halloween 2-resurrection) have all been erased.
"He who loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it unto life eternal."-John 12:25 DRV. This verse now makes me think of Loomis. In a way, he cared less for his own life than he did for fighting evil. It kind of made it hard for Michael to kill him.

I have a theory that over time Loomis due to his close proximity and working with Michael over such a long period of time somehow allowed him to absorb some of the curse of thorns into himself. Would explain a lot of things like how he was able to survive the hospital explosion and stabbing along with the other times he takes a beating despite being so old and also why his mental state seemed to deteriorate and he became so obsessed with stopping and killing Michael, just as Michael was obsessed with killing his family members.
Literally found out about the characters and comics a few days ago so it was cool to see that brought up. Although they aren't really canon it is interesting to see them get brought up. Hope you bring up the tv versions of the few films that have one again as they are interesting too!!
Whenever ever you get around to it please talk about the Loomis from the new timeline as Loomis' character was mentioned and shown once again since the 2018 film connecting it with the original.
From a viewer perspective, as someone who enjoys the movies but hasn’t delved too far into lore, it’s because they have some kind of special bond. I mean, Loomis was the only one who truly tried to help him at all. And we know that he obviously gave up and started seeing Michael as an “it” and not a “him”, he did see potential in him for a couple years. He was the only one who showed any type care after Judiths death
Dude I find your channel so entertaining you are probably one of the very best I've ever seen on RUclips you are so informative I mean you did your homework sit back and watch some of these videos you are informative you made me think about things I didn't even think I had to think about thanks for sharing pal have a Merry Christmas Sir.
Actually Loomis' stroke happened when he collapsed after hitting Michael with the wooden plank in Halloween 5. Originally, he was supposed to die there. That's why he's not there at the end.
The comics and novelizations are cool but I feared the Shape. I'm just saying.. late 70's, loads of serial killers, fear of the possibility that we are not safe, even when you hide. He could be anyone. Nothing to bring attention to himself. That is what made me love the original Halloween 1978.
I do like the theory that this Sam Loomis is the same one from Psycho. The actors even look alike; and I like how the comics expand on his history But even without those things being canon, Dr. Loomis is such a great character and I wish Pleasence didn't die when he did. 75 is too young
I like to think there is a force that is taking over the shape. I mean we see it in the first movie when he goes to kill his sister the camera in michaels perspective looks up at his hand as he’s knifing his sister… almost as if he doesn’t know why he’s doing it or in surprise that he is doing it… it’s his first kill. I love the idea of not knowing and it’s up to the viewer. But I like to assume there’s a unknown unexplainable force of evil that has taken over such a pure soul. I like to think Michael was a pure soul at birth. When his parents take the mask off after he killed his sister he is a boy, his parents look to have had a good household. I would like a timeline where they show young Michael 3-5 before he turns 6 and the show ends with how Michael ended up on the other side of the street alone lurking at his own house. I have so many questions yet it’s probably best that we leave this up to the viewers. But maybe keep everything that has worked… they already have world building in Halloween kills the officer that *SPOILER ALERT YOU HAVE BEEB WARNED* died said in a line that he knew Michael and that he was a very quiet weird kid who always stared out the window… maybe when making this show they should just have parents concerned about their quiet kid who never spoke a word and acts weird and they bring him to see help… psychiatrist and all… idk it would be amazing.
The "curse of Thorn" story arc made the most sense and tied everything together. Also, Halloween 3 was kinda good, but Tom Atkins was right that they should have just called it "Season of the Witch." Also, kudos for pronouncing "Samhain" in the original Old Celtic. 2:54 What's a "cran?" 18:58 Unfold that stock, greenhorn! 23:39 Michael isn't driven by rage. He's like a machine. Like a Terminator.
I liked the Thorn thing because it left some room to expect him to violently infect another with the curse once he's ultimately completed his original task.
In the original ending of the original timeline, the "curse" of Michael Meyers gets transferred to Loomis. Implying that he'll become an immortal killing machine while Michael retires.
Just a note, I'm pretty sure that the stroke that Loomis refers to in the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6 is what happens after he collapses onto Michael after the beating with the board in part 5.

This video randomly came up for me and I really like it. I'm not a fan of horror films, I like a small handful but if I'm honest I find most of them hammy. What I have always had a fascination with is the filmmaking aspect from a technical and psychological side of things. I also find aspects of the lore interesting and this was a terrific video. Your video is very well thought out and you have great comedic timing. You are naturally a fast talker but you are also very articulate so you are still very easy to watch and listen to. Great piece of analysis and I will be checking out more of your videos.
I have always seen Loomis as a kind of Lovecraftian hero. He has seen the evil that is "The Shape" and most terrifying of all he understands it. So he is doomed to be the only one who can stop it. But is cursed to be defeated in his quest. Thus, this quest becomes an obsession that is eating away at his soul and sanity.
I enjoyed this video a lot. Dr. Samuel Loomis (the one played by Donald Pleasence) is my favorite character in the Halloween franchise. And in the entire horror universe. This franchise specifically is my favorite because it's mysterious and leaves the audience wondering until the very end of the original franchise. 1978- 1995. Micheal Myers is the most mysterious and interesting charterer in the entire horror universe in my opinion. On a side note, I get this very strong energy when it comes to the character Dr. Samuel Loomis (the one played by Donald Pleasence.) He's a character that I strongly, deeply admire, and love a lot.
I really always feel like this is the best timeline specifically because of Dr Loomis and Donald Pleasance performance. I think what makes Micheal special is he's the only slasher I can think of (between Loomis and Laurie) that consistently has a good figure to oppose him
I grew up with the "Thorn" series and always thought it was cheesy. When H20 came out I loved it, only to be let down by Resurrection. Fast forward to H'18 and Kills, I'm back as a fan. You did a great job on this vid. And let's all be thankful we got to see Dr Loomis again. RIP Donald Pleasance, he would approve.
In the producer's cut of Halloween 6, Loomis, upon going back inside Smiths Grove Sanitarium, and unmasking a now unconscious Wynn, only to learn that Michael has escaped again, has The Mark of Thorn passed to HIM (Loomis), and screams out, seemingly in pain. The scene then cuts to Myers, dressed in Wynn's outfit, walking down a long corridor, before cutting BACK to Loomis, still in shock after having received The Mark of Thorn from Wynn.
Cool nods and homework on the TV version of H1 say but I noticed you covered it good job with H6 as well I just recently watch 2 of these from you keep up the good work on them
Still sick (not COVID!). Still no ability to come up with witty comments. But comment for support, of course. 10/10 video. eta: Actually, here's a relevant comment: can we talk about how god damn good the prosthetics were for Loomis in Kills
Moral of the story. Don't eat Myers' birthday cake. It's pretty straightforward. And Loomis' request for him to be moved is how he got loose isn't it? 🤣
I love the choose your own adventure of the series. Love Doctor Loomis? Watch the thorn trilogy. Love Laurie and the sister twist? Watch H20. Just a fan of the first movie? Watch the Danny McBride trilogy. Love Rob Zombie movies? Put on the remake. Love the multiverse? Watch all of the Michael Myers led Halloween movies except for Resurrection.
I feel like loomis really truly did care about Micheal. Even though at the time he was evil and out of control, somewhere he still kinda knew that micheal was just a child
Right. Well Loomis understood better than anyone that there was an evil living inside Michael, probably also along side Michael. The actual Michael is in there, but I kinda look it at like possession. Except a very different view of it than what we normally get from movies. I think Loomis claimed he’s the embodiment of evil to detach himself from the boy that he knew. To make it seem like there is no Michael, that just happened to be what his parents named his flesh and everything inside is evil. Like there was never a human soul there, but then when he talks about Michael as a child he talks about him like a person kinda. We get a much bigger look into Loomis’s mental health than we ever will Michael’s. I think the more time Loomis spent with Michael and cleaning his messes the easier is was to justify his own insanity (his alleged beliefs ab Michael) and the harder it became to let go. He became more like Michael’s father than his doctor.
H20 originally was supposed to mention the events of 4,5 and 6 and they left in (almost by accident) a pair of bloody scissors in the crime photos intro. Which were only used in part 4 and 5..I believe Laurie faked her death, gave Jamie Loyd up for adoption before leaving for California to start a new life, new name and son. Her being in California was also further explaining her absence in the other films when they could of just had her back in Haddonfield, which is also why it's the only one to not be in Haddonfield.
I always love your posts! Especially the Stephen King and Halloween Franchise. But just a small tidbit and it really doesn't or takeaway from the movies or video but Dr Loomis gives Laurie one of his guns in the operating room.
I’ve always loved how the more Loomis interacted with Michael, the more his sanity deteriorated

I wanna see Laurie horror history to understand how she keeps coming back
It's not too difficult to grasp. There are so many different timelines at this point in the series.
She faked her death in one
I have an idea. Money. 😅 Jk.
@NotaHero🌻of911 I hope you’re well, and that you are doing well on your own journey fighting evil. Everyone is destined for it somehow. We just have to accept it. I, at least, try. God bless.
I’d love to see a movie about Loomis. Like, maybe even a Godfather Part II style where we have two plots in a movie, one being modern day with Micheal on another killing spree, and the other story being Loomis between 1963 and 1978.
Plus, I actually quite like the idea of Loomis being the same as the guy from Psycho.
The guy from Psycho???
@@gorillone86 yeah, there was a character in the 1960 film Psycho named Sam Loomis portrayed by John Gavin
4:06 I love the bonus "You've fooled them haven't you Michael. But not me" scene from the TV version.
They should've filmed that whole thing originally, since it helped clear up the story.
@@sha11235 because Carpenter wanted it to be a anthology horror series the first movie gave us suspense and nothing to reveal about Michael so yeah both side of me agrees and feel it was better off as it is
I’ve never seen the tv version, it was never shown here in the U.K. as far as I’m aware. Really want to try and get a copy.
@@sha11235 think there’s also the fact that the length of the movie with the extra stuff is too long for a theatrical release back then at least.
FUN FACT
Another Psycho and Halloween reference:
Janet Leigh, who played Marion Crane in Psycho and Jamie Lee Curtis, who played
Laurie Strode in Halloween are real life Mother and Daughter.
Janie Leigh appears in Halloween H20 too!
I do like the theory of Halloween and Psycho being connected and honestly im all for it tbh. It would actually be quite cool
This was incredible, so much in-depth information! Never seen it broken down like this!
You are very quickly becoming one of my favorite channels!
I have to ask: Any plans for the Histories of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles?
Literally found out about the characters and comics a few days ago so it was cool to see that brought up. Although they aren't really canon it is interesting to see them get brought up. Hope you bring up the tv versions of the few films that have one again as they are interesting too!!
Love your savagery while staying on topic. Solid. 🤘
Do ALL THE CHARACTERS.
I'm praying for you to complete this series without going insane, the Halloween continuity is hella fucked up
Whenever ever you get around to it please talk about the Loomis from the new timeline as Loomis' character was mentioned and shown once again since the 2018 film connecting it with the original.
I've noticed that Michael didn't want to kill Dr. Loomis
One of my fave characters of all time. Love your deep dives! Really great stuff, I'm so glad I subscribed.
Loomis’s transition from doctor to mad man is so great in this series. A monster created a monster.
Dr Loomis is a badass character. He's more invincible than RoBot Cop. RIP to Donald Pleasence 🙏🕊
Yes, 34 minutes of CZ goodness.
I spit my drink on “I would not want to be a dog in Haddonfield in late October “🤣
The way Donald Pleasants played Loomis made him my favorite character of all time in horror.
Loomis was always my favorite character in the franchise. It's why the later movies just don't feel the same.
Exactly
Hot take: Sam Loomis is more important to Halloween/Michael Myers than Laurie Strode.
I deeply appreciate the work that goes into these videos, top notch!
Your breakdowns of the movies/characters is awesome!
Dr. Loomis is an intricate part in the Halloween story. Loomis impact is felt in today's movies
Just watched Halloween kills it was fantastic and I appricated the little homage to Loomis during the flashback scenes
Yeah, I saw it on Friday and I think the cinematography shots for Haddonfield in 1978 really brought the film justice!! 😭
Finally! I love Sam Loomis and Halloween is my favorite Horror franchise ever!
I love Sam loomis too and psycho is the greatest horror flick of all time
Actually Loomis' stroke happened when he collapsed after hitting Michael with the wooden plank in Halloween 5.
Originally, he was supposed to die there. That's why he's not there at the end.
He showed up in 6
That is so true
@@dajourtaylor3643keyword: originally
That Dumbledore impression is BEYOND accurate, and hilarious.
Also it helps that Jamie Lee Curtis mother is Janet Leigh and it helps to Link her to Psycho in her own movie.
I like how you tell these movies. You put so much work into your videos.
I wanna see Michael Myers on horror history next he’s got a lot of time lines 😂
The comics and novelizations are cool but I feared the Shape. I'm just saying.. late 70's, loads of serial killers, fear of the possibility that we are not safe, even when you hide. He could be anyone. Nothing to bring attention to himself. That is what made me love the original Halloween 1978.
I do like the theory that this Sam Loomis is the same one from Psycho. The actors even look alike; and I like how the comics expand on his history
But even without those things being canon, Dr. Loomis is such a great character and I wish Pleasence didn't die when he did. 75 is too young
The fact Michael can drive without ever learning how
Didn't doctor Terrance Wynn teach him how to drive ?
@@shimshamjunior that's in one timeline but it makes you think what's the explanation in the others
But maybe keep everything that has worked… they already have world building in Halloween kills the officer that *SPOILER ALERT YOU HAVE BEEB WARNED*
died said in a line that he knew Michael and that he was a very quiet weird kid who always stared out the window… maybe when making this show they should just have parents concerned about their quiet kid who never spoke a word and acts weird and they bring him to see help… psychiatrist and all… idk it would be amazing.
@@Venemofthe888 perhaps in the current timeline it was Dr. Sartain? Idk about H20 timeline.
@@shimshamjunior it's not that hard to learn how to drive once you learn the gears and stuff
The "curse of Thorn" story arc made the most sense and tied everything together. Also, Halloween 3 was kinda good, but Tom Atkins was right that they should have just called it "Season of the Witch." Also, kudos for pronouncing "Samhain" in the original Old Celtic.
2:54 What's a "cran?"
18:58 Unfold that stock, greenhorn!
23:39 Michael isn't driven by rage. He's like a machine. Like a Terminator.
I liked the Thorn thing because it left some room to expect him to violently infect another with the curse once he's ultimately completed his original task.
Yo. Seriously look forward to horror history. It’s one of the only series on RUclips I look forward to viewing. Thanks CZ.
Imagine michael at Court Loomis: "He is pure evil, he should be locked up!" Michae: heavily breathing.
Loomis and micheal , Laurie are my favorite characters in halloween franchises 🎃 .
In the original ending of the original timeline, the "curse" of Michael Meyers gets transferred to Loomis. Implying that he'll become an immortal killing machine while Michael retires.
No.
Immortal killing machine while michel retries.
Loomis is my favorite Halloween character! Thank you!
Just a note, I'm pretty sure that the stroke that Loomis refers to in the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6 is what happens after he collapses onto Michael after the beating with the board in part 5.
it's been a while since i've binged some CZsWorld!!!!!!
I can't wait to get my scary movie knowledge on again!!! next time i won't disappear as long. I hate missing your uploads!
Micheal Myers is 63 years old according to the original timeline. That's wild!!
Well, he's not human, so age don't matter to him.
@@ashwinidesai4051 true but his body will age and eventually give out. Guess that’s when we’ll finally know if Michael is truly evil or if something evil dwelled inside him.
Edit: his body *is* aging already

Omg have yoi ever watched the movies..
There is no demon in him..
He is.. the demon.
Dude your History videos are AMAZING id love to see you go over Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises
Doctor lommis is one of my all time favorite characters and rest in peace Donald pleasance your a legend 💯🎃🙏
Tommy was one character I loved beside the good Doctor, Michael, and Laurie.
This is by far my favorite RUclips channel
Your Harry Potter impersonation literally made me laugh out loud. Well done!
"shots him in the eyes to temporarily blind him" XD
I like to think that Loomis never dies because just like evil, good never dies (even if he does get pretty crazy in Halloween 5 and 6)
Definitely the best character in the Halloween franchise (in my opinion).
Once Again CZ World this is history I appreciate this video of Dr Loomis Thanks 🐐
Yes much needed video I just watched Halloween kills so I love all the Halloween videos . I keep binging them all
I really always feel like this is the best timeline specifically because of Dr Loomis and Donald Pleasance performance.
Michael is like that one sibiling who alwaays follows the other around everywhere

Oh, this will be interesting. Also, Rob Zombie Loomis would be a interesting video.
So true
He does care for him, I feel like he has a sense of duty to him as his doctor.
A Dr. Loomis series would be sick.
I find it highly interesting that thorazine, a medication suggested for Michael, has the word 'thorn' in it.
I always love your posts! Especially the Stephen King and Halloween Franchise. But just a small tidbit and it really doesn't or takeaway from the movies or video but Dr Loomis gives Laurie one of his guns in the operating room.
