The First Shadow play goes into more detail on Henry’s origin. Even hinting to how he got his powers. Brenner and his motivations along with the Mind Flayer. If you can catch it in London I highly recommend. It’s pretty much like a two episode prequel.
I saw it earlier this year. Fantastic production values, especially the opening act. I'm fairly convinced it will have little effect on Season 5 as not everyone can see it and anything we need to understand Season 5 will no doubt be included in an episode somewhere to get people up to speed. It does flesh out Hawkins during the era of Vecna's flashback and show you what the adult characters in the current time were doing then. Interesting to see the parallels between the teens in both times
Not knowing the outcome of season 5, I kinda wish the Mind Flayer is still the big bad. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Vecna as a villain, but I genuinely found the Mind Flayer as a better final boss since it embodies the eldritch elements of the Upside Down whereas Vecna started as a human which sort of detracts the horror for me. When Dustin labeled him Vecna as its' 5 star general I thought that was really cool. Also could you do a horror history on Minus One Godzilla or the Creeper?
Yeah the mind flayer is a better overarching villain. By the way, the Vr game and first shadow prequel play are both said to be canon according to the duffers.
I disagree bc the mind flayer is just a shadow. It has no control over anyone unless someone like a human is behind it. How I see it, the real monsters and manipulators are humans. Humans most likely control an object that doesn’t have a mind of its own. When Henry was sent to the Upside Down, there were cloudy particles known as the shadow. He formed a shape of a spider and it was called the mind flayer. So, I believe Vecna is the mind flayer bc he’s in control. He’s able to control everything like the creatures and the vines. With Vecna being the main villain, it makes sense bc why just believe some random monsters are going after Eleven without a purpose? This is why I enjoyed season 4 as much as I with season 1 they gave more of a purpose to why the creatures from an alternate dimension are going after Eleven. Someone who’s human or use to be human is behind the plan to target her. Vecna is going after her for revenge. He wants to make her suffer for rejecting him after recruiting her to go on his killing spree and for sending him to an alternate dimension
The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers is controversial to cover. The director of those movies is a convicted child predator so people generally don't want to give any support or breakdown for the movies.
@@RX-12 exactly it mutated his blood and occasionally took over his body. It was ironically the so called “demon” that Victor Creel thought was haunting his house because in reality virgina knew it was her son who was causing the strange stuff by whatever was giving him his powers which was the Flayer entity/force that originated from the other dimension dimension X (the former name of the upside down) that infected him when Henry was trapped for several hours there when he accidentally got transported to it when bumping into the scientist and his machine while exploring the caves of Navada and the device malfunctioned.
He doesn’t control the mind flayer, in the stage play it is shown the the mind flayer is what corrupted him, and in the vr game it is shown that the mind flayer is just using vecna to fulfill its own goals. All vecna did was give it a new look. Also in the vr game the mind flayer says, “ I have already consumed the minds of all who live here.” It is saying that every thing it has interacted with became part of the hive mind. Sorry I went on a little bit of a rant, I’m just tired of people thinking vecna created, or controls it when in the prequel stuff we are giving the opposite is true.
@@flox6762 never mind I looked it up it seems the stage plan is canon, and as for the vr game they might have confirmed it but I don’t know for sure so canon until proven otherwise.
Great video, few insights I'd like to share. 1. The First Shadow play reveals that Henry actually got his powers from the Mind Flayer. It'd be interesting to see who they reveal as the ultimate villain in season 5, Vecna or the Mind Flayer. Vecna believes it has been him all along, but could be revealed that the Mind Flayer is the real villain of the show after seeing how the play sets things up. 2. The place where El sent Henry was not the Upside Down. It was an inter-dimensional space called "The Hellscape". Later, when he shaped the particles into a giant spider (the MF), that place is called Dimension X. This is mentioned in the official script of the final episode. Still not sure whether Dimension X is a separate dimension from the Upside Down or just a pre-historic version, looking forward to this being explored in season 5 ! 3. Vecna also probably already had powers to astral project and he could obviously read people's minds. The only power he obtained from El (via the hive mind connection ) when the monster bit her in season 3 was her unique ability to open gates ! Also it's crazy that we're just around 1 year away from season 5 !! I can't wait, but I also don't want it to end, bc idk what I'm gonna do with my life after Stranger Things ends lol 😭😭
The Mindflayer remains the ultimate villain, & is only giving Vecna the illusion that he is in control because it sees Vecna as a useful tool to open a gateway into the world so that it can enter, devour & take over. The stageplay seemed to humanize Henry, who I wouldn't be surprised to see have a redemption arc right at the very end of S5, one similar to Billy in the S3 finale. Dustin's theory of Vecna only being the Mindflayer's fivestar General still stands!
If Vecna's victims are still in his mind, then could the shapeless/formless place where Eleven banished him to not also be a representation of Eleven's mind when she supposedly killed him at the lab? Hence why Eleven is believed to have been the one who created the Upsidedown! & that it's only through Eleven opening the gate again on November 6, 1983 was Henry now able to shape it into the darker version of Hawkins he so craved all along.
I think I vaguely remember being told Robert Englund was Victor, but I never made the connection that they're almost literally trying to say Vecna was descended from Freddy. Not like they're trying to connect the worlds or anything but its a nice touch!
I don’t know why people believed Henry created the Mind Flayer. It and the Upside down were already a superorganism and hive mind with The Flayer as the initial queen bee / power source / brain of the dimension. Like a mix between a Queen Xenomorph, the Energon from Transformers, The Thing from The Thing, and with a bit of Cthulhu, something beyond understanding and possibly existed before the birth of our universe and before time and space itself. HP Lovecraft is definitely another inspiration of the Stranger Things franchise besides Stephen King.
I think the Mindflayer existed but had no physical form of its own, and Henry was the one that gave it that physical form. That's just my two cents, though.
@ exactly the vr game confirms this. The Flayer was just an endless mass that was the alien intelligence of the upside down super organism, and it took different forms to interact with Henry Creel once he was transported to the parallel dimension including a shadow version of Martin Brenner. I bet the spider form was created by Henry as a way to be able to see MF more clearly as it practically is so spread out and infinite in size and shape that it having a more concrete structure to clearly have more of a better way to communicate was the result of Henry connecting to the hive and tampering with the original formless hub/heart of the infinite mass.

The london play Stranger Things the first shadow written by one of the original writers is considered mostly canon and gives good backstory to vecna so i wished you used it
CZWorld needs to research both The First Shadow and Stranger Things VR. Both are heavy with lore about Henry/Vecna, Martin Brenner, the Upside Down, and The Mind Flayer.
Random but do you sketch/draw all your own illustrations on the chalkboard, have someone else do them or are they edited to look like chalk drawings that you layer onto the board in post? Because they are awesome, either way.
Hoping the writers make the decision to have a final twist where the Mindflayer is in control of itself and using Henry … something Lovecraftian is way cooler to me.
I love the depths you go into with these horror and thriller franchises. Could you maybe do horror history and/or things you missed videos for the Netflix Trilogy of "Fear Street?"
So disappointing you didn’t cover the lore from The First Shadow and the VR game which are both canon. The First Shadow especially gives more backstory to Dr Brenner and Henry.
Which gives backstory on how Henry isn’t the actually the main villain and he got his powers from the mind flayer after accidentally entering the upside down at a very young age

In his speech When talking to Eleven saying how He Came into Papa’s Grasps and he (Papa) began collecting more children with the Abilities: “…Soon Others were born, YOU were born…AND I’m SO GLAD YOU WERE ELEVEN…” To me that sounds like A Proud Parent Talking to their Child. And since Eleven Is The Antithesis Of Him, I Could be wrong, But Still I wouldn’t put it past me. And I must say this video (along with the other Stranger Things videos) perfectly explains some questions I have. But I Can’t Wait For Season 5!
I like the video but the information from the Play (which aparently canon) alot of things change to his character like the kids (mkultra experiments) actually getting the powers from his blood and Henry being in the Upside Down before they moved to Hawkins.
Yeah the play is confirmed by the Duffers to being canon as well as the VR game. The VR game also shows Henry directly meeting The Flayer versus when he was a kid he was merely exposed to and infected by a different part of it, and it actually attempting to communicate and decides to create the Shadow Brenner form since as it’s an alien intelligence it’s the only real way of physically communicating because Henry was one of the first human lifeforms it had ever contacted with besides the transportation of the SS Eldridge and all the crew getting killed by demogorgons while Brenner’s father was merely brutally injured and got infected slightly by “The Shadow” as he called it during his death bed and was mildly mutated, which resulted in Brenner wanting to study and find a way to reach dimension X, which eventually led to creating his test subject program especially when Henry got mutated and became superpowered.
@CallMeJamezCuzDatzAGiantPeach Yeah, never got into stranger things but when Vecna was showing up in videos and shorts I thought it was an interesting character design and wanted to know more.

The stageplay suggests that Henry got caught up in experiments in Nevada, during which he somehow vanished into Dimension X for 10 hours, only to return with powers & a different blood type. Brenner then chased after Henry all the way to Hawkins as he himself was wanting to find a way to the alternate dimension that his father told him about having been there himself when aboard the ship during the Philadelphia Experiment.

Exactly he needs to do second video to discuss it. Like a history of upside down video
BRAVO!! 👏 EXCELLENT COVERAGE! Best on YT!!! Thank you for your hard work & dedication!! ❤
I love the fact you came up with original terms for some of the characters and creatures: demowog😂😂😂You got passion for this stuff❤
As an 80s kid I LOVED Stranger Things and watched it start to finish with my teenage daughter (who also loved it). Eagerly awaiting the fifth season.
hi cz! i’ve been watching since probably 400k and got hooked from ur IT videos. just wanted to say i love you and your channel!!
Love that you used his DBD design
CZWorld needs to research both The First Shadow and Stranger Things VR. Both are heavy with lore about Henry/Vecna, Martin Brenner, the Upside Down, and The Mind Flayer.
Does no one remember the First Shadow play? The one that completely explores Henry’s origin? And adds SO MUCH new material to this video??
It’s currently only available in the UK most of the fanbase hasn’t watched this play.
@ True. But it was pretty important. Just look up a plot summary on the Stranger Things wiki, it’s very detailed
Random but do you sketch/draw all your own illustrations on the chalkboard, have someone else do them or are they edited to look like chalk drawings that you layer onto the board in post?
Because they are awesome, either way.
I'd like to know that too. I've been wondering for ages now lol
The background is a green screen so he edits it all.
Can you do the origins of Homelander
Hoping the writers make the decision to have a final twist where the Mindflayer is in control of itself and using Henry … something Lovecraftian is way cooler to me.
"They burned that MF right out of him!" 🤣
I love the depths you go into with these horror and thriller franchises. Could you maybe do horror history and/or things you missed videos for the Netflix Trilogy of "Fear Street?"
Finally new stranger things
I LOVE STRANGER THINGS!!! THANK YOU ZAC!! 🎉🎉🎉
You put in so much work ❤ love you quirky humor too 😂
So disappointing you didn’t cover the lore from The First Shadow and the VR game which are both canon. The First Shadow especially gives more backstory to Dr Brenner and Henry.
Which gives backstory on how Henry isn’t the actually the main villain and he got his powers from the mind flayer after accidentally entering the upside down at a very young age
@@trulytizzyy exactly
Wish he had covered it to one thing Henry didn’t enter the upside down in The First shadow he entered dimension X the upside down didn’t exist yet
@@patrickoconnor6893 yeah it’s the dimension it used to be or is a dimension between the earth dimension the Hellscape and the upside down once the latter was accidentally created during eleven’s interaction with the Demogorgon.
Yay ! A new horror history ! This truly is the perfect day !!
I love this video ! You should do fear street🌚
I don’t usually comment on things but I CAN’T not comment! I just want to tell you YOU ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE HUMANS EVER!!!! ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY enjoy EVERYTHING you do!!! How you present, the research depth, intelligent delivery, dark sarcasm ( teachers leave them kids alone) I’m an older person so when I HIGHLY recommend your content I guess it sorta misses the point maybe it’s my enthusiasm about the content of EVERYTHING I LOVE! 🌹🙃 Like a very short list of people I enjoy watching (umm) content I enjoy watching! Almost as entertaining as the subject you’re presenting! You’re GREAT! Thank You for existing in the world it would be cool to see your own series or movie book or whatever??? It’s just a thought. 🙏😬 anyway thanks again amazing content and delivery fully enjoyable!
Stranger Things VR is a cool game that’s also canon. I hope the Mind Flayer’s Shadow Brenner form appears in the final season.
Love the never ending story scene and i feel sorry the way Eddie went out but he went down rocking
Man I was just binge watching some of your videos and then this came up a few hours later, perfect timing!
Oooweeee how this video instantly began !! 🙌🏾
Anyone else only know of Vecna because they play DBD (NOT to be confused with D&D)?
I know that Vecna is in Dead By Daylight.
Really wish you would cover Devil's Advocate
Need an updated version of this with the lore from “The First Shadow”.
Yep 💯 as well as Stranger Things VR
Bro no way I was literally looking this on your channel yesterday and was sad you didn’t have it! Good shit!
OMG finally I’ve been waiting for this video for years
I thought Stranger Things was already over, whoopsie! Great video!
I’M CALLING THIS RIGHT NOW!
I Still Say That Henry/Vecna/001
Is Eleven’s Father!
In his speech When talking to Eleven saying how He Came into Papa’s Grasps and he (Papa) began collecting more children with the Abilities:
“…Soon Others were born, YOU were born…AND I’m SO GLAD YOU WERE ELEVEN…” To me that sounds like A Proud Parent Talking to their Child.
And since Eleven Is The Antithesis Of Him, I Could be wrong, But Still I wouldn’t put it past me.
And I must say this video (along with the other Stranger Things videos) perfectly explains some questions I have.
But I Can’t Wait For Season 5!
21:24 groupthink? 1984 mentioned! Big Brother is watching you 👁️
I literally just finished the show last night and now you do a video. AWESOME!!!! 😊😊😊
Great video. I love ST and Vecna is a great villain so this video is top tier for me.
Crazy how you can read peoples minds and still can’t fit in
Love your videos
Awesome analysis!
I love the monotone delivery of your jokes
FINALLY A STRANGER THINGS EPISODE :D
..never watched it but we love CZsWorld so i'm watching this.
I love your videos so much ❤❤❤
I have never seen stranger things, but this has been a horror history I've been hoping for.😊
You’ve never watched but hoped for a vecna horror history vid?
@CallMeJamezCuzDatzAGiantPeach Yeah, never got into stranger things but when Vecna was showing up in videos and shorts I thought it was an interesting character design and wanted to know more.
I literally laughed out loud 😂😂 "HE WAS NUMBER ONEEE"
These videos are exactly what I need to function daily!!! Another awesome video! I was wondering if you could do a Horror History on the series 'The Outsider', 'Hannibal' (the TV Series with Mads Mikkelsen) and The Haunting of Hill House, I'm super interested in what your opinion is as well and what you dig up! Of course, I want to suggest so many other movies/series such as Ratched, but that would be too overwhelming!
31:21 try and imagine a moment you are running away from vecna , Your friends play music you love but Spotify got a Ad of 20 sec, 😅
“Well.. he does.” 😂😂
The Beldam aka Other Mother from Coraline would whoop Vecna’s ass! She doesn’t rely on fear like him and many other supernatural horror villains; she weaponizes love.
Cz can you please do a video about Christine? One of my personal favourites and I'd love to learn more about that demon car.
Another Freddie connection: Eddie and Chrissie mirror Tina and Roy from Nightmare on Elm Street 1. Both are the only ones present for what happens to the pretty cheerleaders and are known for being delinquents. Both Eddie and Roy run off and go into hiding in the woods.
Wanna know what’s crazy you have never done a horror history on Jason
always with the rudolph the red nose raindeer logic. everyone bullies the freak with the red nose, but the victim can never get angry or fight back, or else they're a bully. if the abuse is normal then it's not everyone else that has to stop abusing them all the time, it's the victim who has to learn to not let the abuse get to them, learn to adapt and always be nice to their abusers. and if you don't,
you must want to be abused, you're too fragile to do the hard work it takes to be happy. the victim can only use their differences to help the world that hates and rejects them, only then, maybe, will everybody like them. that's the only way change can come. if rudolph kicks some ass, then he's self pitying bad guy, "victim mentality". the victim is made fun of for having a victim mentality. this is so wrong and you're all jerks.
The cycle of violence:
Bully abuses victim- victim beats bully- victim becomes bully. It is an old trope and not anywhere close to change, but a consistent and predictable habit of all human civilization since ancient times.
@@AlgarielMaldonado you still bully someone then get angry with them for being angry or fighting back. you have no right to punish some one for getting mad that everyone picks on them. nothing gets better because you always punish them and win.
@@andrebighach
Understood. It takes 2 to engage. Modern society does not endorse disciplined violence. Engage a person as necessary to stop a threat while using proportional effort of resistance. If you are being abused by anyone, seek professional help or call the authorities if the abuse continues or persists.
@@AlgarielMaldonado stop bullying people and telling them not to get angry or fight back and you know i'm talking about abuse that most people are doing, it's normal and legal so there's no authorities. stop acting like you're stupid.
Do Eleven's timeline and story
The stageplay suggests that Henry got caught up in experiments in Nevada, during which he somehow vanished into Dimension X for 10 hours, only to return with powers & a different blood type.
Brenner then chased after Henry all the way to Hawkins as he himself was wanting to find a way to the alternate dimension that his father told him about having been there himself when aboard the ship during the Philadelphia Experiment.
3 new videos thank you cz
Always love your analysis videos and seeing the parallels described in detail, you always do such an awesome job and its exactly what I'm looking for when I am taking a deep dive into lore.
If you're looking for suggestions, I'd really love to see the character Patty Bladelle analyzed from the Netflix series "Insatiable" - such a good watch and I'd like to see what other things I missed when I first watched it! If you haven't seen it - you freaking NEED to! Don't judge a book by its cover, because the series is not at ALL what it portrays to be!
WOOOO thanks mr CZsworld
@3:30 yoo why you call us out like that 😂😂
Do Jason Voorhees history timeline next
Ask and ye shall receive.
You should do a video on Casper the ghost
if czs could make a video about misty from yellowjackets i’d be ELATED im absolutely terrified by that character from teen to adult
Great video!
The thought of the ST writers using King as inspiration means we really lucked out with the end of season 1. A bunch of loser kids, mostly boys and 1 girl, could've gone in a horrible direction just like the story of "IT"
I love stranger things!!!
If we're going with DnD monster names, then the sludge monster should be called the Gibbering Mouther.
Something that always bothered me about the upside down was the town in it. Like do the buildings build themselves? Like at that one dance where they had just decorated with lights and stuff. Do the demagorgons decorate? When wills mom was putting up the lights to communicate did they just magically appear in the upside down?
Ur overseeing it rn, it’s a tv show.
Maybe they will explain some next shit on the final season even tho they said it’s just gonna be pure carnage
Hopefully, we'll get Amnesia Horror History episode one day.
