I figured since Valek comes back later he was using it as a chance to escape now that he had what he wanted. I was thinking why would he think that would work but your comment makes sense. I noticed that the struggle that Sister Irene faces is Acceptance. It was a theme in the first movie with her acceptance into her faith and taking on her vows to become a Nun, and this film it was the acceptance of her past and what had happened to her mother. There is also the acceptance of revelation that she is of the descendants of Saint Lucy. Accepting her gifts of sight. It was only then that the flames couldn’t touch her. There was also the acceptance that she wouldn’t be the one to take down Valek.
when sister irene was burning and saw lorraine in her visions, i interpreted it as sister irene seeing that she is not the one destined to take down valak, she knows that after her encounter with valak, valak would still be around as it would be Lorraine's job to destroy the demon, hence why she looked at frenchie somewhat disturbed and scared in the last scene.

I know these movies got so-so reviews but I really enjoy the settings (esp part 2), atmosphere and set designs. I grew up in the late 80s early 90s as an altar boy in a 75 year old catholic church. We had free reign of the place and we loved scary ourselves silly exploring the bell tower and cavernous catacomb-like basement
Honestly I love both the Insidious and Conjuring universe movies so much. Gets a little confusing when I haven't seen them in a while and I talk about them because the actors but theyre both done so well with so much lore to them. One of my favorite monsters is the Crooked Man. I think they made him look so cool and I'd honestly love to see more of his character. And I want more of Elise, Specs, and Tuck too!! I also would rather both series have a proper ending and don't keep getting dragged out because at some point you can tell when sequels become soulless cash grabs but if they have ideas for the story and can build more lore then I hope they do.
I think its possible that one of the reasons valak targeted and tormented Lorraine years later with visions of Ed Warren's death is because the demon must know or at least thinks theres a relation between irene and lorraine in-universe and thus is another descendant of st lucy

It says Georgiana Moran first and then Lorraine's name. (It's like a kind of blink-and you missed it). It seems to confirmed that Irene and Lorraine is related by St. Lucy bloodline
This movie really had a few Easter eggs: 1. The corridor from The Warrens house and in the middle of it it was Valak, like what we got in the second Conjuring movie, from Judy's POV 2. The nun painting being animated. So, I guess that with St. Lucia eyes, Valak was capable to see in some sorts in the future, "her" (???) enemy relatives?

This movie will forever remind me of a friend of mine I watched it with. About 3/4 of the way through the movie he was like "Holy shit. I don't think she's taken her vows guys!" It was like 3 am, and the 5 of us watching had to pause it because 4 of us were dying from laughter for some reason.

A rosary is not supposed to have symbols beyond the cross and it’s used to pray, each small bead represents a prayer cycle, the big ones are a different prayer, you do this for 5 “decades” it’s a means of meditation. I remember that ed and Lorraine was present for the final exorcism of frenchy, in the first movie they showed a video of frenchy and the upside down crosses. Aside from the fact that nun 2 implies frenchy to be free of possession how does he have a demon for ed and Lorraine, well nun 2 did not get rid of valek from frenchy, now sister irene needs help, helping frenchy so she calls her cousin to help her, now you have nun 3.
the light shining thing by the doctor in the scene-- it's one of the things you do in a hospital setting for "neuro checks" -- in this case, checking to see if pupils react to light equally and you do this every 1-4 hours to make sure the patient hasn't had brain injury that progressed
