That's some world class engraving work right there. Good Lord Illia's a patient and methodical man.
They all do great work but damn, that engraving is something else.
Agreed agreed agreed. Wow.
Ilya's part elf and part dwarf, it's the only way
Yeah, Mimi, that about sums it up.
Got to be. His dwarf part has to come from Nidavellir. Eitri would be proud.
this show is just Ilya doing the whole thing
BazookaAce I think grinding is quite hard but boring to watch so they just cut matts work out.
Yeah, Matt puts in a lot of effort for pretty much every blade they make.
Fittneskick803 that is true, i just revise. Ilya and Matt carry the team
probably more going on behind the scenes, also theyre a company, so chances are they have other projects running in parallel with this one.
Different people take charge on different projects. It does seem like Ilya and Matt are the driving force behind most of them, but other members of the team do the majority of the work on other projects some times.
That Ilya guy is insanely talented
and he is the only one that uses the weapons properly XD
joe shmo nah I'm 14 and I can do better than him it's all about patience and precision
Lucas Beaumont no you can't, you child...
joe shmo he should be the king of Avalon
Rare is the occasion where he is not in an episode XP
This entire video is basically just Ilya flexing on us
Fr
I would go to a blacksmith school if Ilya taught.
NITESCIENTIST totally agree
NITESCIENTIST same
I'd invest for that school to be built. Only if I had the money.
Likewise
NITESCIENTIST same
All hail His Majesty, Ilya of Baltimore Knife & Sword, First of His Name, King of the Blacksmiths and the Engravers, Lord of the smithy, and Protector of the Shop.
here here
Dilly Dilly!
Hail Ilya! Lord of the engraving
L.J. Kommer here here
I shall raise my glass to such a amazing lord!
Any chance of getting a time-lapse of Ilya doing some engraving? It's really cool to see him start and then see it further along, but I would love to see the whole process.
That would be cool, indeed
Indeed, would be great to watch!
I second this. I also feel like Ilya is worth his weight in gold. Is there anything he can't do?
That. Is. Needed.
I would like too have stats about the time invested too, and maybe more in-dept about all his engraving tools. There's so many!!
Incredible work here, like always.
I was wondering about that too!
And so it is shown, Ilya is truly the God of the forge
Though you have to give some serious props to Matt, its difficult to imagine how nerve wracking it would be putting a grinding belt anywhere near those engravings
Hephaestus would like to know your location.
That moment you realize that the reveal song had parts you've never heard before because no other sword has been as amazingly detailed as this one
Yeah I got all emotional at the reveal moment, that sword is gorgeous!
It took me off guard so much tbfh
Beautifull piece!
"I'm Matt. I'm Kerry. We are the Stagmer brothers of the Baltimore knife ans sword. Ilya's gonna be building some of your favorite weapons"
Hahahahahaha ^^
HAHAHAHAHA
After watching what Ilya did with Excalibur... what ever they pay him is NOT enough!!!!!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOF
😂😂😂😂😂😂thats true
Damn, Ilya was a BEAST this episode. Not to take away from any of the rest of the team, but damn..
He’s the beast every episode
You can't make a sword intricately aesthetic without losing the swords integrity for fighting
Ilya: Give me my engraving tools
Ilya ia the best
It's heartwarming to see that these skills won't be lost to time. It takes a real master to look at a flat piece of metal, a rack of small chisels, and a two-ounce hammer and say 'Yeah...I got this.'
he just made the sword this channel might not able to surpass for a quiet while
And there's no better sword than Excalibur to do that for
iRapplexD they just surpassed it with Optimus primes sword
Bethel Vingthor I don't think they did necessarily. I mean it has a LOT more parts and was obviously way more difficult to assemble, but in terms of how awesome it looks and skill involved I still think this wins. Now obviously I'm not saying Optimus Prime's sword didn't require skill, clearly it was extremely difficult to make. But the sheer amount of detail in the engravings on this blade astonish me to a point where I still don't think they've surpassed it quite yet.
that's one pommel i would cry tears if i'd have to throw
You've made my day, good sir! But you need to throw the pommel if you want to end him rightly!
Scrolled waaay too far for this.
dude, you would be most lit executioner around if you got that pommel!
To be honest...
If you wield Excaliber you are the one who decides what counts as ending someone rightly.
But, then again, no one would expect you to use that trick with a sword like that...
ayy, skallmemes
my god Ilya is simply an artist, I hope you pay him a boatload!
indeed, hes quite the god in the workshop
airforce9872 whatever he's getting paid. I feel like he still needs a raise
I could watch him do his work without any cut just match it with some epic bgm and him explaining with his accent! wish they would upload that :D
airforce9872 I was thinking the same exactly thing
for real
Illia is by far the best blacksmith in the world. I would put him up against anyone with both knowledge and talent. He is the sole reason I can't get enough of this show. Pure genious.
i just whitnessed engraving jesus do his thing. Stunning work
Engraving Jesus. Damn.
He looks the part
could someone make a list of what to call Ilya?
HA
Dog God Only one: Ilya Sensei, 10th Dan Master Swordsmith...
Please make Corvo's sword from dishonored
yeah!
YES!!!
Shaunak Deshpande up you go
we are asking for it for 4 years now. with NO result.
MAKE IT HAPPEN
This particular episode is "Ilya and his assistants make Excalibur" :P
Lord Baktor and the previous Ekusukariba was like that to
Lord Baktor It's always like that Man 😂
Of course of course !
Lord Baktor I agree
They are all extremely talented craftsmen; however, Ilya is a goddamn master.
If this is in the hands of your enemy on the battlefield, you dodge his swings not to survive, but to preserve this stunning piece of art!
I think this is one of the most beautiful swords that has exited your workshop. Keep up the good work.
Exceptional work. Beautiful sword. I think the sword from King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was best rendition of Excalibur though.
atlese this Excalibur doesnt go around wearing a tophat and singing
Wayne Kline I was so waiting for a comment like that
yw
Wayne Kline FOOL!!!!!!!!
SHUT UP! AND LISTEN TO MY LEGEND!
nope.. im out XD
yall should do a MAN AT ARMS sword kinda like a freestyle.
Oh! Have each of them make a sword for themselves, that represents who they are, sorta thing?!
Awesome idea
AllMrPlatypus Platypus They really should. Im all for it!!
Personalized sword contest or something
AllMrPlatypus Platypus this would be awesome! that's a great idea
Sometimes I feel bad for Illya cause he has to do almost all of this by himself but he should be very proud of his accomplishments since according to Karry, he's almost completely self taught and he's an absolute master in his craft of both forging and engraving
Ilya is a phenomenal blacksmith.
Richard C M Slater all of them are 🙌
illya is a mastersmith
Ilya is COMPLETELY KAWAGANE
Kawagane: the medium hardness steel in Japanese swords?
That's an understatement lol
this is no more just a sword its a great peace of art
Flaschen Geist *piece
*It's more than just a sword :)
Fa771n9 he said "this is" not its
This is no more than a just a sword. This guy named art just achieved a great state of peace.
Am I getting you right?
Grammar check:
This is not only just a sword, it is a great piece of art.
Ilya has got the patience of a monk
he sure does
Of a GOD
Their is a shirt or a chart of bread levels now there must be for a hair one.... his hair is that of a god... The God of the Blacksmith
you have to have that level of patience for this sort of work.
You have a magician in your midst. His name is Illya Alekseyev.
How many times do you think that tiny hammer was hit? I reckon at least 12.
12 THOUSAND
Well, you aren't wrong. It was at least 12
Did you see how much work that was?! It was at LEAST 23 times!!!
3
You mean Ilya?
this sword is just amazing!! i want it so bad
How much do you think it'd cost if it where to sell ?
Anthony Jaccard i dont know
Maybe 10000-20000!? But if it would be mine i wouldnt sell it! not even for 100000€
the materials aren't that expensive but the engraving work is. won't be that high but it would fetch a high price. If you want a comparison, a roman Gladio engraved and with gold details starts at 3.500€
You might want to check the prices on the Baltimore Knife and Sword website. It would be way more 3500
They have a pattern welded Fantasy Hungarian Yatagahn that sells for $2200 and it's detailing is so basic compared to Excalibur.
Matt's right, this is the best sword BKS has EVER made. I'd easily pay over $10000 for this sword. With a sword of Excalibur's quality, it's not the cost of the materials you need to worry about. It's the, more than likely, 100's of hours Ilya put into that engraving because that blade, it's fucking gorgeous!!
The sword blade to make itself is something these guys make relatively easily. However the cost of a master engraver's time.... i would estimate somewhere between $5000 - $8000 depending on engraving detail. Well worth it though. Probably their finest build to date.
Ilya is a god in the forge istg. If I ever made a High Fantasy game, im gonna have a Russian character called Ilya who is the greatest blacksmith in the world who even the dwarves look up to, he's also gonna be an anime lover.
Yep I would play that game so I could meet and get a weapon from Ilya ☺️
@@nordicrose7243 It's official, the patron god of the forge in my D&D world is now named Ilya
@@kanpai44 Yay 😊😊
Jimin -sama he is actually a cosplayer
Jimin -sama I think you need to see a therapist
Ilya consistently has the best shirts.
Indeed, that is the most intricate piece you've done yet. The care put into its making is fitting to a legendary weapon. I would imagine you'd quote a piece like that higher than almost anything else you've made on this show. I probably don't even have the money in savings to match the work you put into that weapon.
An other thing is that i think it has the longest showcase time in the end compared to any other work they have done.
+Martin A. Olesen And with damn good reason.
Sapheiorus agreed this is their most beautiful piece of work to date. I'd love to see Ilya do more engraving.
Plus that last guy cutting the fruit had great edge alignment
Should change the name to Ilya and his assistants.
I've always been such a big fan of Ilya's work. I must say he's not only a great craftsman, but, an amazing artist.
Out of everything you’ve made, I want this sword the most. So beautiful. This and dawnbreaker
This sword is immaculate and totally beautiful! Thank y’all for this amazing sword!
Ilya never ceases to amaze me. You're a legend man.
Wow. That thing is glorious. Ilya, are you sure you're not actually Hephaestus incarnated as a Russian? That engraving work was incredible.
You mean Vulcan 😉
@@SebvdBergh As a greek fan, I am guite angry to find a roman boi here.
@@alexcao2825 😂
You're all wrong. He's the Lady of the Lake.
Maybe he is one of Hephaestus' mortal descendants!!!!🤔
Mad props on the uniform engraving work. That takes serious skill.
Damn i want to see how Ilya made his engraving tools and some basic lesson how to start. It would be so nice to make engravings into projects i make, to spice them up a bit, but i feel spending on ready made tool set is just waste of time and probably does not cut as well...
17:12 Ilya literally looks like a knight
47 people have never built a damn thing in their lives....
54 now. Idiots.
Just wondering, do you ever play napoleonic wars?
Not much, but I have in the past. I was the jerk with the piccolo that was trolling in the back most of the time.
xBeau Gaming Haha. It is fun doing that. I prefer going arty train and acting like I'm stupidly fast.
xBeau Gaming probably some libtard sjw tumblrina who does nothing in their life
These guys are talented, unlike making 1,000,000 videos on a resto loop lmfao jk jk love your channel
Himura Kenshin (Battousai)'s Reverse blade sword!
That would be interesting to see them make
DapperDragon I agree
yes pls
this one please!!
can you make the Himura Kenshin Reverse blade.
Ilya's one hell of an artist
Marc Polo yeah imagine how stable his hand is
I wholeheartedly agree, what I wouldn't give to be there in person watching any of the creation of any of there swords
I can’t imagine how relieved Ilya must’ve been when he saw there was almost no scaling after the heat treat
Damn what can Ilya not do
I know right? He's so amazing! They're all are!
Was thinking this myself. Dude has a wide spectrum of talents and I love it!
Надпись на футболке - "профессиональный русский"))
dab
Singin' maybe ;-)
Holl crap! That's the mo beautiful peace of metal I've ever seen in this channel
This truly is the most beautiful sword to have come out of that shop.
It's excalibur forged with a dragon's breath xD
Still one of the most if not the most beautiful swords I have ever seen in my life.
Illia is literaly a god
maxthecheese cheeseboy Haephestus incarnate
I was thinking the exact same thing. I think they should have a episode where he can make is own sword with his own design. However he wants it to look.
They crazy thing about Ilya though is he is completely self taught when it comes to his engraving skills
respect for the engraver
mad skills
Obviously Ilya was taught by the elves
MrArcticShadow
... and dwarfs ...
yes he was
No he wasn't. He was taught by Hephaestus.
He graduated dwarven, fae, and elven engraving academies.
What are you talking about? He is Clearly a god
What I love is the fact that these are not showy replica's. What they create in their shop any ancient king would have gladly carried on their side! I'm always impressed when I see the craftsmanship and the attention to detail that each one of them put into each piece. Stunning isn't a strong enough word.
Nice job guys, props to Ilya on the engraving, props to Matt for the grinding. I don't think a majority of your fans realize quite how difficult blacksmithing is, I've been a blacksmith for about 4 years now and all I can say is props to you guys.
Same about being a blacksmith. These guys are just next level. It's quite nice to see how the pros do it.
I actually learned some of the techniques I used to make my first shield and helmet from watching these guys.
I've always wondered if it is possible for someone to learn how to make a sword just from watching Man At Arms: Reforged.
Same here. I would like to do something like this myself, but getting started with smithing seems really difficult, and since I'm in my graduation year, I doubt that I even have time to properly practice. :I
I've never even built popsicle-stick toys and I can tell that wasn't easy AT ALL. Anyone who'd think otherwise is probably a bit insane.
Barghest Blue it wouldn't be possible for someone who has not been trained, they don't explain all the details of the craft.
I've been a blacksmith for about 4 years now and I'm just making my first sword. I would suggest going to your local smith and just asking some questions, just don't be eager to start making swords right away.
Is Ilya already getting arthritis in his hands? My god that is detailed tedious work. Kind of surpried nobody has done a 3D engraver machine yet.
They have. I used to use one. You can get both 'cutting engravers' and 'Lazer engravers'.
You can also get some pretty sick results, but the thing is: it's so damn obvious when it's done from a machine. It looks lifeless and "printed".
Work like this has much more of a feel and a look, you can literally see the skill in every tap.
It's like the difference between an oil painting and something you pressed CRTL-P on, lol.
1.Put a drill on a 3d printer head
2.invert the print
3. ...
4. Profit ...from an engraving with the drawbacks mentioned by PhaseLotA.
For the kind of engraving done in this video, there absolutely are machines that could do it to perfection, we have the tech to make swords substantially more equal in terms of dimensions, solid and refined as anything hand made, the fact is a hand made is sword is just a lovely character piece, you know what went into it, it's a collectable as well.
So a CNC router?
basically a multi axis CNC mill. I use one at work and it could do it just doesn't come out as fancy. You don't get the hand tool marks.
Ilya, I just want you to know that if ever I get the chance, I want to apprentice under you.
Yes beat me master
Professional Russia shirt from FPS Russia's channel, Ilya's got swag
Who does the video production?
I swear I've been wondering for years now.
And this, is probably one of the best episodes ever
Indeed
I was wondering the same! The editor did a great job with the close ups of the engravings at the end.
***** what really? I had no idea. thanks
+KirbyGoezPink Erik Burke does the editing
The engraving and the details of this sword is unbelievable
I would love to see another competition between you guys. Could do a Fate/Stay night one because of all the different noble phantasms there are.
They've done the fate one
Toby Sweetman They only made Saber's Excalibur.
***** I know, I wish they would make Kanshou and Bakuya. And maybe Gae Bolg too.
Yeah. Gram, Balmung, La Pucelle or Durandal would be fascinating.
Gareth Lamb Gilgameshs Ea
What music does Ilya listen to??🤔
I also want to know!
A man of this skill and talent and dedication. I'd say the hu
Dark Souls' Ornstein Spear if not too much trouble
OMG, so much yes! Ornstein's Dragonslayer Spear!
Akatsukizero That would be awesome
Akatsukizero yes I just looked at it and I won't one irl
Are you sure you don't want one irl?
Make brisingr from Eragon
or even Zar'Roc
Dude, I just posted this cause I started re reading the books and am glad to see someone else wanting it. Really hope they do both Brisingr and Zar'Roc.
Even Oromis' sword, Naegling would be dope.
Man I haven't read these books since I was a teenager, totally going to revisit them. 4th book wasn't even out when I last read them.
Its cool other people read the Inheritance series some of my favourite books
But technically they're all from a book. In that case, they don't have any kind of official art or something like that, right? O.o
Ilya is a brilliant artist.
Ilya is a one man army, he's an absolute boss !
Zuko's twin blades from the last Airbender please
Frans van der Hoeven YES!!
They're cool, but they're just dual scimitars. They could be making something way better. I feel it's a waste of their time, money, and their skill.
I hope Ilya kept the damn thing.
It was ordered and paid by the game company, so no. Its probably sitting in their head office right about now..
You never keep your work in. Rule of thumb for any kind of artist. If you do, you'll stunt yourself big time.
Been years, so i can't remember which artist said it, but, paraphrased it was something along the lines of "[art] is like a child and once it has matured, you want it out of your house as soon as possible".
aserta I've had the same philosophy for awhile had no idea some one thought the same
Shoemaker's kids...
bakon321 he made a second of the Fate Excalibur that they built for his own collection. I don't think he would do it again.
'professional russian'
James Mak so disappointed when I found out he was faking
?
Matthew Walsh the guy who sells the professional Russian t shirt
FPSRussia? Yeah, I was disappointed too but he's still entertaining regardless in my opinion. I think he based the accent off of one of his actual Russian friends.
I think this, The Witcher swords and Altairs sword are the most beautiful pieces the guys have made so far. So much talent!
Make The Dragon Slayer Sword spear from the nameless King From Dark Souls 3 !!!
Mr. Ornstein Now that's a damn good idea sir.
Mr. Ornstein yes what a damn good idea
YEA!!!
Mr. Ornstein yes what a damn good idea
no something graceful, not that huge hunk of metal
this is probadly one of you guys best sword, such a sweet build :D
Do we even know if Ilya is human? I mean, he's insane! It seems like he's a master at everything he does!
Would have been nice to see John Boorman's rendition of Excalibur made from crucible steel.
Same
Good lord that engraving! How freaking long did that take!?
PS: To anyone wondering, take it from someone whose done letting in pencil, it's hard enough when you've got the ability to erase, let alone something as permanent as steel.
Nate Rivers Well, Ilya has been doing stuff like this for a very long time, as far as I know, so he is very skilled in engraving...
He's a level 100 engraver.
Probably Legendary 100 too.
absolutely beautiful work :D
and i couldn't help but think "it belongs in a MUSEUM!" :D
he is hephaestus in mortal form
I agree
The body of Adonis with the soul of Hephaestus...
Also known as Vulcan!

Salute for Ilya. This is HIS masterpiece. Love to see him do the engraving.

Toufiq Aziz You're The One Getting Mad
You guys better pay that blacksmith a Lot of money. He's Just insanely talanted
those engravings were just amazing fantastic job :) one question ive had since i started watyching the show i think ive seen all of the episodes includeing the original but havnt heard the answer. what exactly isthe purpose of the fuller in a blade/sword?
Rob M A fuller helps to lighten the blade since you're taking a good portion of material off, but also serves as a support structure strengthening the whole blade as well. Think of like an I-beam in construction. The fuller plays much the same role.
Thanks that makes a lot of sense is kind of like an arch in the construction of the blade then :)
Rob M yes. Precisely
Cool thanks again good night man:)
If I remember, someone told me afew years ago that its purpose was to help pulling the sword out easier when they stab their sword into an enemy. I may be wrong thou.
Galatine Prime from Warframe! I'm not gonna stop until it happens!
Drace Wilson I think that war would be better
Drace Wilson I second that!
All We can do is keep commenting
I also said that last episode!
We need Galatine Prime!
The War would be an absolute monster to craft, seeing as how it has that organic design and the glowing bits.
That's not even counting the extra details that pop up when you use channeling.
Galatine Prime would be more realistic, but it's really just a massive sword with cool gold highlights :\
Ilya Alekseyev is so amazing, a true master !
Excalibur is the greatest sword in the world history ever! The Dragon Sword!
I love how the normal comments for these videos are people making requests, but they're all about how awesome the sword is in this one
Yeah because this was the best sword they ever made
by far although i would have liked it if they had made the handle (is that the word you use in english for the part of the sword where you hold it?) out of leather instead of just wood
Can't get over Ilya's engraving on this sword. Jeez.
ahhhhh perfect the pommel is unscrewable
that way u may end ur foe rightly
conner taylor I've been waiting for someone to say that on one of these videos for awhile.
Ppl do it fairly often but not to much
Skallagrim reference!
Aw hell ya! Skallagrim!
Hello "14 blades" Armory box that is a real challenge
It’s a great build... but on a channel that does countless movie/show swords and other weapons... WHY is their a picture of Clive Owen’s King Arthur if this is supposed to be a completely unrelated video game?
It takes seconds to find a screenshot and superimpose it into the thumbnail, yet you use a misleading, unrelated movie, much more famous actor to promote a video that’s ALREADY being sponsored by one of those cheap mobile micro transaction games? It’s essentially the same actions that annoying clickbait kids use, but there’s no reason for it, it would be the same views regardless because no one even recognizes Clive Owen anymore.
It’s more annoying than how Captain America’s Shield turned out. Why do these great works and efforts need stolen clickbait content when it doesn’t even generate any more interest than if you had used an image from the actual “game” that you’re making the sword from?
Illya is such a Master! I really hope he is very well paid :D
FOOL! That isn't the great holy sword Excalibur but merely an imposter. His legend dates back to the 12th century.
Espeonage the Espeon Spy LOL
5-6th century*
Espeonage the Espeon Spy I think you mean BAKA!
I'm going to California!

Illya does fcking everything xDD
Increase his pay xDDD
Can you guys please make the Medieval Longsword was seen in the Hellsing OVA 8 episode where "Alucard", in his true/original form of Vlad the Impaler, used the sword when confronting Anderson in their final battle.
I can say without hesitation that this is the finest sword Man At Arms has ever produced.
If God were an engraver, He would bow down to Ilya's workmanship.
...except God's not an engraver, but yeah, He'd probably be at least a _little_ impressed.
Well of course he's not an engraver considering he's nothing whatsoever. Oh, would that be missing the point?
What Yonkage did there is called a metaphor, you know? Rather inane response there then.
You know, Hitodama, it isn't typically a good thing to openly bash religion on the Internet. Unless you *want* to start a flame war, which is... okay, I guess...
Nice Kill Bill reference, Yonkage. Well played.
Curious if you're referring to me or Yonkage. If it's me you mean, I'll point out that the second bit is actually Greek for "Lord". Such as in "Kyrie eleison" or "Lord, have mercy".
Some irony there eh? :V
Anywho, I suppose I was a bit "triggered" as they call it over Yayas seemingly missing the point back then. Bashing religion doesn't really matter to me. It just annoys me when it seems human effort and talent is disregarded and/or misattributed to some god instead of the human themselves.
And why yes, Hitodama is a "Japanese styled name". Technically it'd be written as 人魂 or ひとだま typically. Refers to souls that have left the body. I'm not Japanese, no. I'm also not Greek. What does that have to do with the name I choose to use though?
If you guys uploaded an hour long video of Ilya just carving metal I'd probably watch the whole thing multiple times. That was astounding.
I love this episode guys. Also, digging the new music.
Ilya my man, You are the best blacksmith, engraver and armorer in the world. Awesome job. I just love your work
Skana prime from Warframe its so cool
Halit Yildirim Really anything from Warframe would be awesome tbh.
DrLemonbuster Yeah ty for the comment :),i really want them to do it.
Halit Yildirim and the prisma skana?
Ferruccio Crisanti Well there are many sexy melees in warframe :)
Halit Yildirim or scindo prime or war would be supes cool
make Guan Yu's Blue Dragon crescent blade next
yeah, i love it. so nice
what ever you are paying Ilya, it's not enough
This Excalibur us such an amazing build that I keep coming back to watch it every few months, just love it :)
