  • CLEVELAND CBX 2 WEDGE REVIEW
In this video I will be reviewing the Cleveland CBX 2 wedges.
Over the years Cleveland have made some fantastic wedges which many players of all abilities have put their trust into.
We have been given access to review the new wedges by Cleveland and we will be setting up a challenge between myself ( Dan Hendriksen PGA Pro) Lester Barnes (Scratch Handicap) & Lee Whittaker (13 Handicap) .

I believe you are underselling the CBX2. The majority of average golfers have cavity back irons - therefore it makes sense to have cavity back wedges with some "forgiveness"

Come on lads. Even if you dont like the look of the wedge it deserves a decent review.
3 shots each around the green and you dont even take it to the studio to check the numbers.
Other than tech-talk there is not much help here for players who are searching for new wedges.

Thanks for your feedback Steffen, I will look at how this review was done and learn from it. After re-watching the video a number of times and reading a mixture of positive but also a more than normal negative response I can only apologise if you felt it was not to our normal standard. Thanks again Steffen 👍

Thank you for your honest opinion on this wedge, very interesting to see three players of different ability give the club a try and hear your feedback on the results. I prefer lower spin around the green and use a lot of bump and run technique in my short game. That’s how I learned to play and for me it works.

I got 46 and 52 CBX Zipcore yesterday to add to my 58 CBX2. Rotex graphite shafts. Off a softish mat the spin and control is fantastic. Around the practice green again feel and control was superb, even with cut up practice balls.
Hit a few from 6" deep wet rough with enough spin and height to one bounce on the green. Amazing so far. Yet to try 46 and 52 from sand....

Great video Dan, question for you, I have a set of Cleveland CBX Launcher Irons including the 50 degree D Wedge as part of the set. Looking at a CBX2 to complete the top end and wondered whether I should go for 56 or 58 as I am only planning to have this specialist wedge plus the Pitch and the 50 from my set. Any advice would be appreciated. Thx Jon

Only a very small percentage of players are scratch, and any club that offers confidence, versatility, playability and at a reasonable price, should be welcomed by those of us who struggle with chip shots, bunker shots or pitching it in from 80yds. Good review.

  • @patrickzemanek5256
    @patrickzemanek5256 3 года назад

Great review boys, you gain more and maintain confidence with a club by liking the way it looks and performs and they go hand in hand.
I just went from 52 & 58 SM5 to 54 & 60 SM8's with less bounce and love them. They do want I need them to do and with some more regular practicing on the chipping green I will keep getting them closer to the pin and stopping or running as required
I did try a 60 CBX that I came across. It work fine with the sole given lots of help with the bounce, but it was too much bounce for my style so I gave it to a older mate who is 36 handicapper and he loves and gets him out of the bunker when he needs to. Horses for courses
The original owner of the wedge didn't think much off it, after having some trouble getting out a bunker he threw it over the fence into work compound were I was repairing the sewer 😂😂😂😂😂
I am not sure not Paul H could have fixed his short game 😂😂😂😂😂

Have been playing a 50* and 60* CBX in the original design and both are amazing for their consistency from the fairway and short game specialties. I play a 56* in the zip core for a smaller grind profile. The 60* is the best wedge ever for attacking pins

  • @GRIFF22

Good review. The benefits of this wedge is seen more on the longer shots, not so much the greenside stuff. I've switched to these from the Mizuno T20 and difference on 60-120 yard shots is really noticeable. Miss hits on bladed wedges are punished and these are way more forgiving.

  • @peterdeasy8176

I use the Callaway version of this in 50deg and it does stop on short chips in bounces about twice and stops. On long hits it does stop quickly. I am just back after a 20 year break and I like it for the long hit. But I use a normal wedge for bunkers

You know that may be a hell of an idea. I have Srixons ZX4’s with a 49 degree A (gap) wedge. I just got them and since they are very similar in build, sole and design to these Cleveland wedges, I might want to replace the ZX4 A wedge with a 48 CBX 2 to match the 54 I have and really like. Good take.

I have the 52.10 and 56.12. I think the "forgiveness" that Cleveland touts for these is really in full shots. But they're great around the greens. Just point and shoot. I'm a 5 hcp and I've seen them in the bags of a lot of lower handicap players. The wide sole is no good for bunkers that have packed, wet sand, though. Just the wrong tool for the job there. When the sand is nice and has some give, they work great.

Spin is not the only thing to look for. I have a range of these and found the 54 & 56 to be the most extreme. However they are great and a great idea. I am sure that as Vokey through have such an extensive range they will certainly have their equivalents and they might suit people more, however Vokey is a more expensive option. I have to say that for me they are good looking.

I'm a 17 HC... on the way up from a 15 because i haven't been playing enough to maintain my game around the greens. I recently switched from RTX4s to the CBX2s (50, 54, 58) and have already noticed a big improvement. The forgiveness is a lot higher... especially on full shots. Around the green, I have noticed a bit less ability to manipulate the face... but i'd rather have consistency (aka forgiveness) than versatility at this point.

You really need to test a 58-60 cbx2 as well, the bounce on a 58-60 is 10 and C grind, better for your hard sand and cold testing environment. The 54 is for soft sand and deep rough more due to the high bounce. The cavity back alone for full shots will give the average golfer the best confidence compared to other wedges, something you did not consider or test.

I have a 60 degree CBX 2, and have played it for a whole season now. I consider myself a "fair to middlin" bunker player, I mean, I don't fear them, and don't have trouble getting out at least. I hit a number of bunker shots with the CBX2 that were better than what I would normally expect.
Around the green, from various lies and positions, it's really hard to tell, there's just too many variables, along with the fact that I don't have a great short game. So, I can't say that it hurt or helped.
On full shots I'd take the CBX over a blade 60 every time. It's just easier for me to hit a full shot and get the expected yardage with the CBX. Especially if the ball is sitting up a bit in the rough.

Dan, did you not like the club in the bunker because the sand was hard pack?

    • @DanHendriksenGolf

I knew that if I opened the club up a little the sole would bounce off the sand causing me to thin it out, so I closed the face down to take off the bounce and get the leading edge to dig in 👍

Thanks Dan. Good review as we've come to expect. Personally, I think it looks ugly as sin but I can see its' merits for people who struggle. I'd have to look at it from behind a cushion it's that ugly.

16:58 I actually did this lol. 54 with this wedge then a 58 vokey K grind and a 60 low bounce lob wedge.

Dan, did Lester have his coffee yet? Maybe he needs a Snickers bar. 😁

Use a CBX2 60 for bunkers, it’s great. You just play a straight club and it pops out.
Can someone by Lester a happy pill😂😂

I bought one of these and i hit it less distance than my old adams tom watson sw, with a full stroke, I do get more spin however. Out of a bunker it hasn't been ideal either as i find i over hit them, again though i get spin, if I'm in a bunker i prefer my 60 deg. Chipping wise, I'm not a fan of too much loft so 9i is my go to, so it doesn't really tick any boxes for me. Having said that my bunker technique is not very reliable so maybe i could be taught to use it better. Realistically i should have left it on the rack.☹

52 CBX2 kicked my RTX4 out of the bag. I still carry a mid-bounce RTX4 58 but I've found I hate pulling it. The CBX2 has been great for everything.
The 52 grind is different from the 54 and IMO makes it more versatile. Easy to open or close.

Bernie, Cleveland are on the phone and want to know if you are interested in being a brand ambassador hahaha. Now I may have struggled with reading between the lines but I’m not totally sure you were a fan of that club or doing that review (I was cracking up)

I have a cbx full face and I struggle in the sand with it, the course I play most has really hard almost packed sand and I can’t get the wedge under the ball to save my life because the soul is so thick and raises the face up. Great for full shots but not good it hard sand. If I played more soft sand courses it would be brilliant

Try hooding the club slightly, it will allow the club to dig in more 👍

I play with a 56 cbx2 and a 52 cbx. Both have improved my short game. This test needed to be directly compared against what you currently use to have any relevance. Lester’s normal RUclips charm had deserted him and there was an all round complacency to this review. I am a big fan of you the work you guys produce but this one should have been better.

Lester is a teenager in a middle aged mans body....." no i don't like it"..."No no I don't like it"
...it's like he makes up his mind before he's even seen a shot....
He's extreamly funny but could get a bit tiresome...with the "I'm tired ....I'm not enjoying this....I don't like it " sketch...
Lighten up man ....your work is our hobby !!
That's not saying I don't love him when he's on form.....Sunday shows are some of his best
