- Seen Savanh (ຊີ້ນສະຫວັນ) is a style of Lao beef jerky where the beef is sliced very thin and is marinated pretty sweet. "Savanh" in Lao means "heaven," but, I was told that this style of beef jerky came from Savannakhet Province, in southern Laos, and that's where the name came from.

Buk Cow here… i love learning to make everything you have made videos of. My favorite is beef salad and cucumber. Thanks Nana
I LOVE your channel! I have never made lao food besides helping my mom do little things in the kitchen like make sauce, or cut vegetables, thanks to your videos I finally can do it on my own and learn some basic lao words since I was never taught .

Special request for you next video: desserts - "voun"....
Thanks a million!!
I love watching you cook sis. Thanks for sharing and love you guys from Minnesota! I saw many of your videos and this is my 1st Comment. Lol 😂I clicked Liked on them though.😊
I'm worried about flies hatching eggs on them so I dry mine in the oven. I also add dry pepper flakes and sesame oil. Tastes very good. My kids LOVE them.
They have outdoor netted dryers. lol
Houa Khang .. yes that's what my mom does
How do you do it in the oven?
Nice simple recipe, I’ve been using the a different recipe with lots of other ingredients. I’ve only made this twice they came out 😋. Going to try your recipe. 🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦 Seen Savanh and Khao Neow 😋😋😋 My favorite, Especially good for road trip snacks.
My kids luv this ... need to tell my mom to make it & send it to me .. nana ty for sharing.. looks delicious!!!
Nana, after watching your video, I tried it the next day and it turned out good!!! I love Seen Savanh, I always wanted to learn to make it. Thank you. Oh, instead of msg, I found a substitution that contains NO MSG, but tastes similar to it. It's a mushroom seasoning. Some are imitators, but you have to read the ingredients that does not contain msg. You can buy it at any Asian store.
joy garcia I tried the mushroom seasoning before and use it sometimes.
joy garcia nana cooking
joy garcia any spices you buy at the asian market contains MSG. Including the mushroom one you buy
I love this type of jerky. Can't wait to try this out!

@@CookingwithNana do you know any jeer jerky venison dehydrator recipes from 🇱🇦? A friend of mine that was laos gave me a taste of his jerky deer and it was so good i been trying to hunt the recipe down. All i can say it had an light sot sauce taste which was rare to me for deer jerky also it looked like it was dipped into oil versus the usual dry jerky look
Wow! great demo nong Nana! can't wait 2 make it ! my mouth is watery as of writing, Re: tum mak hung, I bought wrong papaya, it's green & lil yellow, when I cut it , oh no! P.S. my sister-in-law is laos. Oh boy she can COOK!!!! Hi P Peng Kop jai liy nong. Ur great chef !

This looks awesome and simple. Can't wait to try it with some venison. Thanks for sharing with us.
Hello Nana ! Thank you so much for showing how to make beef jerky . I will do one day with you recipe . I very like to see your cooking . Love you and See you sister .
Nana, Great video!
I'm just trying to find what dark thick hot sauce is usually used to dip your sticky rice in when eating your Seen Savanh.
My mom used to use the window screen lol then she got a food dehydrator ... For the oil try to use a wooden chopstick. stick it in the oil when you see little bubbles the oil is ready
SABAI DEE PHI NANA, YOU RECIPES ARE ALWAYS AUTHENTIC - I ALWAYS ENJOY TO SEEING YOUR SHOWS ! KROB CHAY LAI
MISSOURY you're welcome and thanks for your comment.
This Seen Savanh demo gives a good idea about how beef jerky can be made. I should have been prepared this week in Kentucky with the temps in the 90s F. Thanks for the video. I would definitely have pepper flakes in my batch :)
Try To Cook This you're welcome. I hope you get to make some. We are back in the 100s again this week out here, but I haven't had time to make some more beef jerky.
Thank Pee NaNa, I love it but seem you use a lots of MSG which's not good so I didn't put it but turned out great.
Here in MN were don't have that much sun and heat so can I use the food dehydrator to dry the beef instead?
i love your video a lot. thanks for sharing.
oh, OK i know. thank you nana...
I love watching your cook shows and learning so much. I love this beef jerky! If I want it to have a little sweet and spicy, can I add a little dried peppers? Would it ruin the taste?
TheHmooblis yes, you can add a little bit of dried chili, depending on how spicy you want. But I leave it out and let people dip in spicy sauce when they eat it.
@@CookingwithNana ok. Thank you. I look forward to seeing your next dish. 🤤🍽
thanks for the recipe my kids love seen savanh
you're welcome. thanks for watching.
i like the fact that you said msg, i hate when other videos dont say that part because they think its bad
Hi Nana,
I live in Minnesota so right now the weather is pretty wet. If I put it in the oven, how many degrees and how long should I bake/boil it for?
Thank you! ❤️
Sabaidee Euy Nana. I've watch a lot of your videos, and they all have been successful. For the Seen Savanh, What can you put in the marinade to make the meat pinkish red?
I love seen savahn!!!!! ❤️❤️🥓🥓
Thanks for sharing Nana. Will try making it for the first time this weekend. Hugs, from San Diego.
+Hunnysweet619 How did it turn out?
thank you for your receipt
thank you for your receipt
I tried dehydrating it using the oven and the traditional way inside a homemade net and both came out great. Can't wait to make it again. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Nana, I make a version of this too but I like mine with soy sauce in the marinade. It gives it a darker color when cooked and gives it more flavor in my opinion. Have you ever tried it with soy sauce or ginger? I'm Lao too btw.
Kim, I have seen people add more ingredients, but I like to keep it simple with few ingredients so people can just eat it with their favorite jeow sauces to get the flavor they want.
Hello ma'am can you add the complete list of ingredients and procedure..thanks
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much. I like it.
there was a resturaunt in my city that sold this with sticky rice. it also came with a sauce or salsa that had cilantro in it. do you know what that sauce is called?
Is it okay if I add in some chili flakes into the mix?
I have a question? After the meat is dry up enough in the sun. Can I put the dry beef jerky in a container? So I can fry them later or tomorow? Just curious.
I put mine in plastic bags and store in the fridge or freezer if I need to keep it later. I mentioned it briefly in the video.
Awesome video ! I am wondering how do you prevent flies from getting to the meat when you let it dry on the sun ?
henri keli i didn't see any flies when I dried the meat, but if there were any flies I would use another screen over the meat.
henri keli .. u can't really .. unless it's in an enclosed area but still there's bugs ..😳.. best to do in oven
I live in washington and we dont get very much sunlight here, is there any other ways i can dry my meats without the sun? Will it be possible to dry it inside on top of the stove hanging down
If you have a meat dehydrater you can use that. Or in the oven set to the lowest temperature and with the oven door open a little bit. Or use a fan to help blow the moisture away.
Thanks for sharing all these amazing videos. Hiew kao lai lai! สบายดีครับผม
you're welcome! thanks for watching.
Thank you for u awesome recipient i love everything u cook ! but i can't find u recipient for ( Gel Bon) can u please show me how to make thnx! ;-)
Mhmmm I didn't know it was this easy I'm gonna try it
You’re a good cook Nana!
My Lao's friend gave me this beef jerky. It tastes like it has a hint of lemongrass and black pepper maybe sesame oil too, .Is it ok if I add it in Nana.
Question...Would it still work the same way if you dried it outdoors in a sealed bag or container with a lid? I don't want bugs to land on it or anything else to contaminate it.
Kazoua Xiong you can't put it in a sealed container. The meat needs air to flow through to dry up the water in the meat. If you are afraid of insects landing on the meat you can put a screen over the meat. I usually put a screen over my meat but I didn't see any bugs that day when I did the video.

THANK U MAH PA FOR UR TUTORIAL! I CNT WAIT TO TRY MINES OUT!! AND EAT IT WITH KAO NIEW! YUM! XOXOXO

This looks sooooo good
Thank yooooouuu.. inari00000
Do you know that you can check the oil by using a wooden chopsticks.
Dip the chopsticks into the oil.
If the oil starts to bubble around the chopsticks the oil is ready.
what is the best spicy or sweat and spicy dipping sauce to go with this?
Jeow bong
thanks nana for the receipe I am definitely making this weekend with tham mak houng and kaow neow :)
janny vongdashian be sure to let us know how it turned out.

Elina M I had been busy and was recently in the hospital for 3 weeks last two months ago. I will make more videos soon.
Anyone figure out what temp and how long if we're using an oven to dehydrate it?
Oven temp 170 for about 4 hours. Use a wooden spoon to keep the oven door cracked open. I'v made jerky twice in the oven and it was perfect. All ovens are different so check the jerky after 3 hours.
Ma'am can i use food dehydrator ? Since we dont have any sun in washington state :/
yes, you can use food dehydrator, also.
hi, Nana can you give the example of MSG optional. what is it?
www.ebay.com/itm/like/172094441774
Thank you - one question while drying in the sun do you go back and flip them?
Saap li li!! Very Delicious!
thx u I'll make this tomorrow and see how it's go
Did you make it already? It has been very hot the last few weeks.
Cooking with Nana Do we need to put garlic or anything?
So why do you cook with MSG (optional) Does it really do anything to the flavor?
wallkosh yes it does enhance the flavor but it tastes just fine without it also...I don't ever use msg and my food tastes good
Nana ,I love your videos so much, I from Lao too, where are you living?
lijie ma I live in California.
Do you have a video on ga paw pa?

No spices?
my brain kept waiting for some spicy.
how much beef are you using ?
janny vongdashian in the big yellow pop up bubble, it says 8 lbs beef top round steak. ;-)
Cooking with Nana i know i just seen that lol sorry
this is called BING Seen
My dad hunts dear and uses the meat to make the beef jerky
David Phongsavanh 👍🏽
what if we want it spicy too?
we usually eat this with sticky rice and some kind of spicy dipping sauce for this who want it spicy. but if you want to make it spicy so your non-spicy-eating friends can't share with you, you can add dried chili flakes or powder.
+Cooking with Nana yes i had this with jeow bong and sticky rice, but thank yiu for replying i love all your videos!
So there's no soy sauce?
Chia Lee I don't use soy sauce for this
Cooking with Nana have you ever tried soy sauce? If so how did it turn out?
There's this beef jerky from Sacramento called LJ's Beef Jerky. I've been trying to find a way to make it. Actually their ingredients list does list soy sauce.
