A dispatcher's instruction has a lot to do with how an officer responds. The officer(s) responded like they were answering a prowler or suspicious person call. In a wellness check an officer usually knocks on the door to see if anything is wrong. He doesn't show up with gun drawn and survey the area. His response is very strange for a welfare check.

There's law regarding the IQ of an officer (or there used to be, unaware if things got changed, but considering this...). In the article (google it up) there's even an interview with a cadet that got turned around because his IQ was much more than the quota, with the "text" of "this line of work, won't satisfy you". UUgh, I'm just sick. I have always backed the police, because their job is scary and emotionally draining, but they are letting some people on the force that just are not mentally prepared to deal these situations properly and I cannot back that. I am sure this officer is also sick over what he has done, but that will not bring this poor women back. You should never have to feel that calling the cops or dealing with an intruder carry equal hazards. I am betting she had her gun, because she heard an intruder which she is allowed to do, but when this cop saw the gun pointed at him he shot.
I used to back the police, but time and time again, they are killing individuals and then claiming that it was justifiable ----- Can we be sure that the cops didn't plant it there as it certainly would help them be cleared.
I like the UK better, only specialized officers will have guns. I still stand by my opinion that in general cops should not carry weapons. Cops should have them available if they receive a call regarding an armed situation; but not bring them to situations like this. I.e. If you get pulled over for a missing tail light, you shouldn't have to expect an armed potential psychopath on a power trip to arrive at your window; rather an unarmed human doing his/her job informing you of a potential safety concern you should get repaired before your next vehicle inspection. No handshake, hug or license required to be showed or an hour wasted... just an unarmed friendly hi, by the way... police are nuts these days.

I live in Miami, and a few days ago, I was just stopped "on foot", only 100 feet from my front door. The cop just yelled something out at me. He didn't even identify himself as a police officer, so I initially ignored his yelling until he got closer to me. When I turned to face him, he had a flashlight and a gun pointed right at me. He then yelled: "Show me your hands!" and he asked me if I had any ID on me. I was honestly afraid to pull my wallet out of my pocket, but thankfully, he let me show him my ID. He told me that he was looking for a "white male" who was walking through different yards, looking into windows. I was "let go" after this cop and his partner verified that I lived very close to where I was walking, but the incident was very jarring. I can't even walk in my own neighborhood at night without some "hyper-vigilant cop" stopping me with his gun drawn.
You should report this incident immediately, while it is still fresh in your mind. The police need reasonable cause to threaten deadly force. You probably ran into a trigger happy cop, like the one who murdered this poor woman in her own home. Please report this to the police IG, as soon as possible, and do it in writing to create a paper trail. You might save someone's life by reporting this. Please report this to the police, so they have a chance to retrain.

I have always backed the police, because their job is scary and emotionally draining, but they are letting some people on the force that just are not mentally prepared to deal these situations properly and I cannot back that. I am sure this officer is also sick over what he has done, but that will not bring this poor women back. You should never have to feel that calling the cops or dealing with an intruder carry equal hazards. I am betting she had her gun, because she heard an intruder which she is allowed to do, but when this cop saw the gun pointed at him he shot.

I used to back the police, but time and time again, they are killing individuals and then claiming that it was justifiable ----- Can we be sure that the cops didn't plant it there as it certainly would help them be cleared.

I like the UK better, only specialized officers will have guns. I still stand by my opinion that in general cops should not carry weapons. Cops should have them available if they receive a call regarding an armed situation; but not bring them to situations like this. I.e. If you get pulled over for a missing tail light, you shouldn't have to expect an armed potential psychopath on a power trip to arrive at your window; rather an unarmed human doing his/her job informing you of a potential safety concern you should get repaired before your next vehicle inspection. No handshake, hug or license required to be showed or an hour wasted... just an unarmed friendly hi, by the way... police are nuts these days.

I live in Miami, and a few days ago, I was just stopped "on foot", only 100 feet from my front door. The cop just yelled something out at me. He didn't even identify himself as a police officer, so I initially ignored his yelling until he got closer to me. When I turned to face him, he had a flashlight and a gun pointed right at me. He then yelled: "Show me your hands!" and he asked me if I had any ID on me. I was honestly afraid to pull my wallet out of my pocket, but thankfully, he let me show him my ID. He told me that he was looking for a "white male" who was walking through different yards, looking into windows. I was "let go" after this cop and his partner verified that I lived very close to where I was walking, but the incident was very jarring. I can't even walk in my own neighborhood at night without some "hyper-vigilant cop" stopping me with his gun drawn.
You should report this incident immediately, while it is still fresh in your mind. The police need reasonable cause to threaten deadly force. You probably ran into a trigger happy cop, like the one who murdered this poor woman in her own home. Please report this to the police IG, as soon as possible, and do it in writing to create a paper trail. You might save someone's life by reporting this. Please report this to the police, so they have a chance to retrain.

Atatiana was in her house and before she could even show her hands, she was MURDERED by this trigger happy cop.
