I believe the operator dropped the ball by changing the welfare check call to an open structure call. The procedure of not announcing oneself is the proper procedure on an open structure call and the operator sounded too urgent to get the information out of the neighbor and the police to the scene. WHERE IS THE INTERVIEW OF THE NON-EMERGENCY OPERATOR?!

Have you considered that dispatch didn't say this was a welfare check and that the person he shot had a gun in her hand? Him not identifying himself might be enough to convict him, but if he thought he was responding to a burglary, that puts a different spin on the situation.

Yet another sad and tragic situation in Texas. Perhaps the entire state needs de-escalating training. Something is terribly wrong here. Why does these officers claim so much FEAR? Sounds to me like they're in the wrong line of work and a bunch of cowards masking as wannabe heroes. While all lives are precious, they keep taking the great ones of our society, those that were dedicated to making enormous contributions to their communities.
