If you have problems with insomnia, take a dose of melatonin before bed... It relieves the insomnia. Also, I cut down on meat products, eat more veggies, fruits, grains, that will naturally make sleeping easier (if you have meat, eat SEVERAL hours before bedtime. I also stop eating dairy 12 noon)

The only symptoms I got was decreased appetite, slight nausea and I felt very tired but that only lasted for about a week and the symptoms started to clear up, please don’t be put off by the side effects, I almost stopped taking citalopram after 2 days but I convinced myself to stick to them for atleast a month and honestly that was the best decision of my life, I can actually live my life normally now, my mindsets improved and I’m a lot more organised, my heads a lot more clearer and I feel so much happier, so even if you may feel bad for the next few days, you’re doing this to benefit your future self and you’ll be so grateful that you started them. I know starting new medication can be scary but your doctor wouldn’t of prescribed you them if they thought you’d have a bad reaction, also it’s really important to be patient with the meds, after about two weeks I felt better but I was still getting panic attacks, I only felt the full effects at about 6 weeks, but you might start to feel them at 4 weeks, you’ve got this
I've taken 40mg of citalopram daily for the last 12 years! Occasionally I have gotten my repeat prescription in several days late and the intense feelings of worthlessness and morbidity when this has occurred are crippling.
Same here. 12 years and 30-40mg. I wonder about the long term effects. Currently trying to come off but the tears and the zaps are no joke right now...🥺🥺🥺🥺
If I miss just one dose, I turn angry and uptight. Once I stopped taking it altogether, after a week I was getting withdrawal symptoms, horrible headaches dizziness and losing time by just being on auto pilot. It's a scary drug that I'm addicted to and literally no matter how much I try can't escape from. Wish I was never convinced to ever having it, such a evil horrible additive drug
Took this drug for ten years and tried to get off...now I am in severe withdrawal going on ten months. It's not discussed how difficult it is to get off these drugs...

@@Martin-lp3ky I would think if the medication makes you sleepy, that you would benefit more by taking it before bedtime. By morning the sleepiness should wear off. I'm on 20 mg and it feels like I am taking sleeping pill but by afternoon I am fine. I will try taking it at night to see if it helps me sleep and allows for the daytime to be less sleepy.
I did not find that. I take the highest dose of 2 a day, more is bad for your heart. I have now reduced this to 1x day, so far so good. I took 20mg of celexa for 23 years. I was doing ok. But I was getting more depressed. I didn't know if the depression was from a series of depressing events or that the celexa was losing its effectiveness. I started reducing my dosage. I eventually stopped it completely. Would take it again if I was in a dire straights but would definitely look for other types of help before putting this into my system again. I wish doctors would let their patients know this type of medication is not intended for longer term use and monitor not only their physical health but their mental health while taking this type of medication. I look at it like this, if I had a bacterial infection and was subscribed an antibiotic to clear it up , should my doctor keep subscribing that antibiotic once the infection was gone?

Have a discussion with your Doctor, it can be used off label to treat anxiety. There might have been other reason your Doctor choose medication such as your medications you tried in the past, your past medical history.
Dose reduction will be determined by how well you responded to treatment. The decision to go off antidepressants should be considered thoughtfully and made with the support of your physician or therapist to make sure you're not stopping prematurely, risking a recurrence of depression. Once you decide to quit, you and your physician should take steps to minimize or avoid the discontinuation symptoms that can occur if such medications are withdrawn too quickly.
Can stopping them suddenly within two weeks of starting them cause long term health problems. I know someone who did this and their health has never been the same. The tablets made them very ill and four years later they have been diagnosed with severe Fibromyalgia. Could the Citalopram have triggered the Fibromyalgia?
Thanks for sharing your experience. That is a very long time.Have a discussion with your Doctor to see if there are other alternatives to help manage your symptoms. Are you following up with a counsellor as well?
I got irritable, orgasm issues, dizzy spells coming off it, already have dry mouth so had to know if increased, and yawning. Made me a little flat. My sodium and potassium were both low. Hi I am on 40mg for about a year. In total 3 years on citalopram. Initially it was working well. But now it doesn't help well anymore. I seem to be sweating more even without physical exercise.
Have a discussion with your prescribing health care provider. It appears the medication is not working as intended. Reasons could be dose, tolerability, interactions with medications, additional stressors in your life, compliance, breakthrough depression, use of Alcohol.Sweating could be a side effect.Reach out to your provider who can advice you further.

Citalopram can help with depression. It is an SSRI. A medication which help with both depression & insomnia is Remeron(Mirtazepine). Discuss with your doctor pros vs cons depending on your medical situation and co-morbidities.
Most often these side effects are temporarily and only last a couple of days. There are individuals where the side effects do last longer than that. In medicine, an unintended consequence of a drug, whether therapeutic or adverse, that is secondary to the one intended; is referred to as a side effect.Sometimes the term adverse event is used. The effects on drugs are very different with various individuals as many factors have to be taken into account: everything from the physiology of the individual, dietary habits as well as their demographics to the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the drug. Consequently, no two people will have the same experience .So even drugs which are listed with no sides might be consequential for other individuals. Most drugs, unfortunately, have systemic side effects as it is difficult to make a drug to target specific places of the body.Looking at a cross section of individuals both during trials as well as following up on postmarketing surveys, pharmaceutical companies have a vested interest together with regulatory bodies to monitor for adverse events.A drug side effect listed as high as 10 % in certain individuals per survey data reflect an overall average of reported side effects, and thus consequently can or can not translate to the general population.Interestingly, certain individuals are poor metabolizers of drugs Variations in metabolism, however, can be particularly important with drugs that have a narrow margin of safety.Hopefully, in the future, advances in molecular genetics will help predict drug sensitivities.

"Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) cause little, if any, increase in the serum prolactin concentration . In one study (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9443523/) 20 mg of paroxetine a day caused no increase in the serum prolactin concentration after one week but did cause a slight increase, although still to only high-normal to slightly high values, after three weeks". ( Source uptodate.com....authoritative source used by physician as it studies and reviews peer reviewed journals). "In another study in patients receiving fluoxetine chronically (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9194044/) the mean basal serum prolactin concentration was no different from that in untreated patients with similar diseases. Thus, SSRIs do not appear to cause clinically significant hyperprolactinemia.Citalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline.None or low (rare reports)."( Source uptodate.com)
@@ThinkYourHealth thank you for the quick response. So what do you think is the most common reason why someone might have high levels of prolactine without being pregnant or have any other symptoms. Thank you so much.
Good question. That is a whole topic on its own. Here is a short version.Obviously other medications can cause this in particular 1st Generation antipsychotic drugs. But the first test would be to repeat the test to see it this is indeed a true value and to follow up with a fasting prolactin level. In this way can figure out if kidney problems( stage 4-5 kidney disease) is the cause.Other causes are diseases located in your pituitary gland & hypothalamus and the best test for these is a MRI.Thyroid disease would also have to be excluded and seen in some patients with hypothyroidism.Stress can be a factor , but can only cause slight elevations of Prolactin.
My father was started on 10mg Citalopram around 2pm. This was prescribed for his depression. He is currantly taking it at 230 everyday. He is having some issues sleeping. How do we transfer him to being able to take it sooner in the day? Will it mess him up if I skip a dose and start it up again in the morning?
Just wondering why he was getting it in the afternoon? I wonder if your Doctor was concerned with interactions with other medications. The half life of Citalopram is about 1& 1/2 days so so as you described above if you skip a dose and start in the morning there should not be an adverse effect. Have that conversation with your Doctor as he or she is more aware of your father's medical hx and medications and there might be another reason the drug was prescribed as you described above.
These are the main side effects associated with the drug per peer reviewed site UpToDate.com relating to the Genitourinary system: Genitourinary: Dysmenorrhea (3%), ejaculatory disorder (6%) (table 3), impotence (3%; dose related) .Here is another resource where genitourinary problems are highlighted on page 23: www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2017/020822s047lbl.pdf

I just started taking Citalopram about a week ago for my anxiety and depression. I take 10 mg. and boy do I feel like crap. I have almost no appetite, racing heart rate and insomnia and a warm tingling sensationin my upper torso. I'm going to give it some more time because I see that these are are the normal side effects. I just pray that I start to feel the benefits of the medication soon.
Yeah its same with me. I am having racing heart rate with this medication
How are you now?
Ask God he said in scripture he will heal many if they ask. Never worked for me as i prayed for years on end with no spiritual evidence what so ever. reading scripture just scares me with all the lakes of fire for eternity and slavory approved for all the Gentiles of the earth. and the New King James Law Version coming along 800 YEARS LATE. King James making Making the New Version in 1611 Close to the time period of the PILGRIM SETTLEMENT. the new Version and making all Believe it and to become a Christian or be hanged burned if they decided they couldn't believe Christianity act 800 years later after the old Bible. Seems very strange why God would make thiis Book 800 years late when Jesus died on the Cross 2000 years ago why would he be made by King James 800 years later and force people to become Christian when the Name Christian is not in the Bible from 2000 years ago. I just posted about this medication not being intended for long term use. I was on it for 15 years and went through hell every time I tried to get off it. I am finally off it (and feel great).

Dose reduction will be determined by how well you responded to treatment. The decision to go off antidepressants should be considered thoughtfully and made with the support of your physician or therapist to make sure you're not stopping prematurely, risking a recurrence of depression. Once you decide to quit, you and your physician should take steps to minimize or avoid the discontinuation symptoms that can occur if such medications are withdrawn too quickly.

Hello and thanks for the video for someone who struggles with my depression and Insmonia could citalpram provide any benefits??
Citalopram can help with depression. It is an SSRI. A medication which help with both depression & insomnia is Remeron(Mirtazepine). Discuss with your doctor pros vs cons depending on your medical situation and co-morbidities.
Forget it way to risky and wonder if FDA ever approved it.
You said you would discuss the “long term” side effects of citalopram?
Thanks for this video! How long do the side effects last?

The gp emailed a psych with my history and has suggested an antidepressant free month to flush it all out

I'm feeling very deflated and frustrated
So currently day 2 no meds

Sorry you feel that way.I am not your Doctor so these decisions to change medication or stop them should be had with your Doctor who has a better understanding of your medical history as well as your medications.Have a discussion with your Doctor about the pro and cons.Would discuss alternatives with your Physician.
Untreated depression can also increase mortality and morbidity.Counseling is another powerful alternative if your insurance covers for those kinds of services.
I’m on 10mg and I’ve just started my mouth is dry but no other side effects should I be worried about the other side effects
Every individual reacts differently to medication. usually these should be less prevalent the longer one is on a medication.
Hmmm ... How did I miss this one?
Thanks for checking video!
Are you on Celexa? What dose are you on?
Yes 40 mgs
Yes 40mg is great! I feel soo much better now
I am starting to taper off it but I noticed that now there seems to be a difference and sexual disfunction which I didn't have when I was taking
D/w your healthcare provider to see if there is another cause.

Hi, thanks for the video. Can citalopram increase the level of prolactine in your body? Thank you 😊
"Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) cause little, if any, increase in the serum prolactin concentration .
@@ThinkYourHealth Much appreciate your input. Thank you :)
Can it effects male fertility?
These are the main side effects associated with the drug per peer reviewed site UpToDate.com relating to the Genitourinary system: Genitourinary: Dysmenorrhea (3%), ejaculatory disorder (6%) (table 3), impotence (3%; dose related) .Here is another resource where genitourinary problems are highlighted on page 23: www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2017/020822s047lbl.pdf
