Metformin is still recommended a first choice drug as long as there are no contraindications or as indicated in this video in those scenarios where the drug should be stopped. Other choices to consider depending on your co-morbidities and medical history are: 1) GLP1 agonists: Trulicity( dulaglutide),Byetta( Exenatide),Victoza ( Liraglutide) 2) SGLT2 inhibitors like canagliflozin 3) DPP4 inhibitors like Sitagliptin or Linagliptin. Most important, are lifestyle changes and exercise.

The video looks at specific situations where Metformin has to be stopped which were illustrated in the 6 scenarios.Metformin is still recommended as the drug of choice if someone is a diabetic. What is more important than diabetic medications are lifestyle choices: diet and exercise. This is what was said in the video: 1) If your kidney function becomes worse your Doctor will stop giving you Metformin. He or she will look at a value called GFR (glomerular filtration rate). If that value is less than 30ml/min/1.7 m2 Metformin will be discontinued. I typically use a higher value as I also see a lot of elderly patients and I stop it at a GFR of 45 or below. Between 30-and 45 some Doctors reduce the dose of Metformin by half but no more than 1000mg /day.
In April 2021 I started a keto diet. I was 68, weighed 15 stone, my blood sugar was 9.6 and my cholesterol was high. I was on metformin. For 8 months I followed the diet. Two weeks into the diet I began experiencing bladder problems. For 18 months I had sometimes unbearable pain and could not leave the house. My GP gave me antibiotics that had no effect at all. Over that period I had ten lots of antibiotics that had no effect. I stayed on the diet for 8 months. I lost two stone in weight, my blood sugars came down to one point above normal and astonishingly my cholesterol came down to normal which, as the diet includes eating fatty meat, cooking in butter, not eating anything that is low fat or fat free, turned on its head all that I had been taught about healthy eating. Still the bladder symptoms continued until I decided to stop taking the metformin for two days. By the end of the second day all the bladder problems had disappeared and my GP agreed to take me off it. I have been off the diet for two years. I am still losing weight and my cholesterol has come down further.

I always find it curious when individuals write comments without looking at the video or examining the 6 scenari when Metformin has to be stopped as all of them are evidence based. No where in the video is there an implication to stop Metformin outside these specific scenarios which are contraindication or relative contraindications. These decisions will always have to be done by the health care provider and never by patient.Metformin remains the number one choice for oral diabetic care outside these described scenarios.
I take metformin for anti-aging...I'm in my 70s w. metabolic dysfunctions, so my MD put me on Met..(I am not diabetic), I am supposed to take 1000mg/day, alas due to side effects, I only take 500mg. It is a wonder drug, and many docs take it. Comments, pls!

Consequently, no two people will have the same experience .So even drugs which are listed with no sides might be consequential for other individuals. Most drugs, unfortunately, have systemic side effects as it is difficult to make a drug to target specific places of the body.Looking at a cross section of individuals both during trials as well as following up on postmarketing surveys, pharmaceutical companies have a vested interest together with regulatory bodies to monitor for adverse events.A drug side effect listed as high as 10 % in certain individuals per survey data reflect an overall average of reported side effects, and thus consequently can or can not translate to the general population.Interestingly, certain individuals are poor metabolizers of drugs Variations in metabolism, however, can be particularly important with drugs that have a narrow margin of safety.Hopefully, in the future, advances in molecular genetics will help predict drug sensitivities.
I had a afib stroke in July 2020, and the cardiologist put a pacemaker implanted permanently for monitoring the afib and see if the Eliqusis is helping, I’m taking Eliqusis twice per day, Bystolic in the am, Jamumet at the dinner time,Lipitor at bedtime, the cardiologist might put me back on digoxin as well as vitamins C,D3,K2,CoQ10 in the am, Omega 3-6-9, fish oil, and I also take moringa oil, capsules 7ral times per day, helps with the bowels, maybe kidney function
After ending up being admitted or one day and discovering I was diabetic the emergency doctor put me on 500 mg of Metformin when I went to see my primary doctor he told me to take 2000 a day. I wasn’t over weight. When I went in the emergency my sugar was 199 after 7 months of discovering I was a diabetic through changing my diet, fasting, and exercising. I am now running 3 miles a day, my sugar readings are between 90 and 120 feel like I have more energy. My last check up my doctor said what ever I am doing continue to do it. My A1c dropped from 7.2. To 6.1. Without Metformin go figure so much conflicting information one doctor says to take Only 500 mg then my primary tells me to take 2000 mg. Goodby Metformin.
I took Metformin for about 6 years. I became weak as far as my muscles are concerned. I realized this when my balance and my strength grew weaker. I am a motorcycle rider and my bike felt to heavy for me all of a sudden. I never dropped my bike but I layed it down 3 times. No damage done because I layed it down and refused to drop it. Now I hear that metformin caused this. My Suger count is fine . My question is will my strength ever come back? If it doesn't , I am about to sue the industry for what it has done to me. I stopped taking metformin 6 yrs ago and I'm still having strength problems. I really need to know if I will gain my strength back. This has caused me to stop many things I loved to do. I need some replys.
Try looking into healing your mitochondria (power house of our cells). I see a metformin like training wheels in a bicycle, used for a short time to help the rider learn to balance themselves. Then taken off when the rider masters balance. Also try wholistic nutritionists, every body has diff ancestry that had its own cuisines. Like Eskimo ate only meats and fats with omega 3. Organ meats have all the vitamins + minerals their body survived on. There really is No standard healthy diet. Just when you can, get organic and non-gmo, in whatever your eat. Which eliminates all processed foods.

Metformin causes lactic acidosis and deficiency in Vitamin B12 and causes the body to suffer. Metformin causes you to lose weight and look aged. Your friends will notice the change in look and physique and question whether you are diabetic. I am very grateful to a female pharmacist who whispered to me that if I exercised and stayed away from sugar, I can throw the 3 month supply of metformin that I was holding in my hand into the dustbin and I did exactly that on 10 July 2010. I have been a diabetic for 26 yrs now and exercise daily. I stay away from the sugars sucrose and fructose. You can live without fruits and vegetables. The only vegetable that I consume is the herb celery which gets rid of heavy metals in the body. The fructose in fruits affect your mitochondria and causes inflammation in the body. I am virile and healthy at age 76 yrs. A diabetic must consume soaked fenugreek seeds (one tablespoon for 24 hrs) to be virile and healthy. Please do not touch any diabetic medicine. Exercise and avoiding sugar, MSG. caffeine, A1 cows milk, vegetable and seed oils is the key. Gluten free A2 cows milk and goats milk can be consumed.

Metformin, a medication commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes, has garnered attention in recent years for its potential anti-aging effects. Some research suggests that metformin may have benefits beyond its primary use, including potential effects on aging-related processes such as inflammation, cellular senescence, and metabolism. Several studies, primarily in animal models, have shown results regarding the potential anti-aging effects of metformin. For example, it has been observed to extend lifespan and improve healthspan in various organisms, including worms, flies, and mice. Additionally, some epidemiological studies have suggested that individuals with diabetes who take metformin may have a reduced risk of age-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer compared to those not taking the medication. However, it's important to note that while these findings are intriguing, more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of using metformin as an anti-aging intervention in humans.First, more multicenter, large-scale, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials are required to further elucidate the effects of metformin on aging and major aging-related diseases. Moreover, the side effect profile of Metformin has to be taken into account. Before considering metformin or any medication for anti-aging purposes, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional to discuss potential risks, benefits, and whether it is appropriate for individual circumstances. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and stress management play significant roles in aging, and optimizing these factors should also be considered as part of any anti-aging strategy.
It's factual what you are saying, but why present it in such a morbid way. This way of presenting is introducing stress and panick to the one with diabetes
@@bo6824 This may be a long story. I had a Covid test on 1/1..was negative. Had a procedure done 1/4. I have several medical issues..so procedure was done at hospital. 5 days later I began to get sick (have COPD) so I thought it was the beginning of a flare and started to take my backup antibiotic and Prednisone. I got somewhat better but not 💯 percent. I continued to have a headache and low grade fever,so my pulmonary doctor said go to the ER and have a Covid test. I had that done along with several other lab tests and it revealed that my BNP was highly elevated along with a d-dimer test and very elevated lactic acid which would be fatal if not treated soon. I had no idea that these were in the critical range. My take on this... I had Covid and caught it while I was at the hosp. Having a procedure. I did stop my metformin which can cause an elevated lactic acid..but so can Covid and the anesthetic I had along with some of the ingredients in the prep. What I was feeling was different from a COPD flare up. The hospital said I had a flare up...but I disagree

I had Metaformin for two years ,but I had stomach issues I got tired of it I threw it away and started taking 100% olive oil. I am also taking ASTAXANTHIN daily.
Why Astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is triple the potency of Vitamin C
The doctor told me to reduce metformin 50 percent today because I have my sugar under control and have lost 2 stone in weight since my last test
how much were you taking if i can ask?
This type of making sugar patients to threaten without giving proper information about what drug is safe by stopping Metaformin.
I request patients not become pray for these type of people.

In medicine, an unintended consequence of a drug, whether therapeutic or adverse, that is secondary to the one intended; is referred to as a side effect.Sometimes the term adverse event is used. The effects on drugs are very different with various individuals as many factors have to be taken into account: everything from the physiology of the individual, dietary habits as well as their demographics to the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the drug.
Goodby Metformin.
been on metformin for one year three months 750 mg the other 9 months 1500 mg no side effects.

I am taking metformin regularly. What is the alternative to maintain blood sugar levels
Metformin is still recommended a first choice drug as long as there are no contraindications or as indicated in this video in those scenarios where the drug should be stopped.Other choices to consider depending on your co-morbidities and medical history are: 1) GLP1 agonists: Trulicity( dulaglutide),Byetta( Exenatide),Victoza
( Liraglutide) 2) SGLT2 inhibitors like canagliflozin 3) DPP4 inhibitors like Sitagliptin or Linagliptin.
It is interesting that this doctor does not advise patient to be on a low sugar diet.

You forgot to mention metformin can cause neuropathy.
Makes me depressed.

damn it then why the hell you call this a medicine?
Sir, now a days, metformin is being used to revert aging.... Some PPL who doesn't have diabetes are also using it. Is it right or wrong...?
Mobility is the best answer... Less side effects,no time for depression, care more for those who suffer more
