The Good and Bad of X-Men '97

X-Men '97 just dropped on Disney+ and I wanted to talk about what I saw at the premiere, both the good and the bad of the show. I've always loved the X-Men and characters like Gambit, Rogue, and Nightcrawler. Does the new series live up to the legacy of the original 1990s animated series?

There's already so much controversy before the show even airs. Disney already greenlit a second season pre-debut. But then they fired the showrunner, also pre-debut.

My friend I went to the premiere with is friends with the showrunner and got a text from him a few days beforehand but didn't go into any details. Apparently he was also at the premiere but didn't go to the afterparty.

I didn't see it yet and I am some what aware of the original existing. I wish they brought back the hand drawn animation. That would have been super cool. That is my outsiders opinion.

I think hand drawn animation, especially for American production companies doing television animation, just isn't going to happen. The turnaround required for these shows is too quick to justify doing it hand drawn, plus the use of a tablet does help save pencil and paper, and files are easier to trade around. Essentially the ecosystem within production has gone digital and is just faster and easier. I appreciate that they kept the show 2D and added some grain to give it more of that 90s hand drawn feel.

@@ModernMouse Its unfortunate but Futurama was able to do it, Big City Greens was able to, and all those Marvel shows that came on Disney XD. It still looks good but it looks like a video game.

Muito ruim. Há uma sensação de estranheza na animação que da um aspecto muito pior que a animação original. Quase deixei de assitir no meio do primeiro episódio. Oportunidade perdida. X-men Evolution é muito melhor.
