Got my PE 16 some years ago. I'm not a high volume producer, but use a number of high end tools to help me work wood while using a wheelchair. Love everything about the tool. Bullet proof construction, easy to use and reliably accurate. I do use track clamps ( two) because I don't cut in one smooth motion, but must stop and reposition myself for longer cuts. My parallel guides are red and do a good job after a learning curve, but after purchasing a number of TSO products, I wish I found the TSO guides first. Yes, I use your links whenever possible. I appreciate your content.
Definitely right about how good the anodizing is on the TSO guides. They always look pretty hanging in the shop. We’re all going to constantly find new possibilities for these things. You’re also right about not having to always use track clamps but the surface and grippy strip needs to be dusted off some. Works great on Makita tracks and the guides are on my list.
Hope you and Chris evacuated to somewhere safe and comfortable. Ian center missed us here in the Keys but we are dealing with tropical storm conditions. We have our fingers crossed for our friends on the mainland.
We are hunkered down safe still in Florida, but out of projected path. We decided to bug out at lunch time yesterday. No traffic and once we got to our destination we filled the tank. We hope it is way less damaging than the weather channel is talking. 😎
@@TheSmartWoodshop I looked up V Beach and saw you were close to landfall. Glad you and hopefully your fellow Venicians are out of harm's way. Best of luck with the new house and your SMART trailer weathering the storm. Look forward to updates as you get back home.
Definitely wanting to get these products. I fell down this rabbit hole while looking more into the parallel guides. I think I definitely want to get the guide rail square. But not sure if I need a regular adapter for the other parallel guide.
Had my GRS 15 clamp for years. The only thing I did was to add a small strip of wood to my long side to support the edge. Threw my home made square away. No need for TSO to make Limit Stops for the Domino or biscuit jointer placement, their are out there on Etsy and from Festool.
I have the DeWalt tracksaw. But it works perfectly on the Festool track (have to readjust the cam screws). I got the festool track because there are more accessories for Festool et al. Just an FYI who have dewalt tracksaws. And these square rails work great. Easy on, easy off. And @7:30 Well I'll be! I never thought to use it from the far side. Makes perfect sense! TY!
I purchased "The Red One" (adjustable angle) long before these TSO's were available and, honestly, I really wish I had one of these. So many times the adjustable angle of mine is slightly out of square that I obsess over checking it for each cut. Honestly, in as many years as I've had it, I've never cut anything but 90, or I'm just aligning my track with a scribe line for angled cuts.
Thanks for the video and the instruction. Always appreciate learning from you! Question: I watched this video and the one on the Stanton dog locks. Seems that you can make a square cut with either. If you had neither of them, which tool would you purchase first?
I would get both. The GRS is portable and attaches to the track. The Stanton Dog Locks work with a fixed setup like the Paulk Cross Cut. I will do a video on the Stanton dogs soon.
( must wait to watch until I get home) ...I hope I don't develop buyers remorse, but I already have the Woodpecker's Adjustable Track Square. Its adjustable angle feature, I have some certain uses for. Hope your inaugural hurricane season wasn't messed up with Ian.
Hey Ron. Quick question. I already have one GRS-16 for My Festool saw and Makita rails, do I really need another? I have the TSO Guide Rail System as well. Dont really see a benefit to having two.
@@some-random-bloke thanks but actually the Kreg one is the PEK model. I’m talking about the two that Ron is using in his video, which he said are both compatible with Festool, Makita, Triton
Hey Ron hope you’re all bordered up I’m north of you in riverview Florida we are starting to get some bad weather here so I know it’s bad down your way stay safe.
I have both the squares and parallel guides. A bit pricy? Yes. Worth every penny? Yes Since getting this setup, since my track saw has a deeper cut, barely is a table saw at all now. And can bypass a miter saw in some applications.
To be honest, i can cut just as accurate lining the track up with my pencil line. Im not doing high precision cabinet work,,which i suspect most people on you tube are just diy types.
We are safe as we left the area and are staying with family. No info on our home so we will see if there is any damage and if so what we can do so it doesn't happen again.
I just purchased my first festool Tracksaw and that square. Hope it works as great as the tracksaw has been so far. Do you think I only need one or two for both sides to get accurate precise cutting with narrow planks based on your experience? Thanks so much for sharing.
I bought an $80 version from banggood coz no one interested in making one for dewalt track. I still had to cut 10mm from one end but works great and cost me a third of this one. Stay safe
I wish Dewalt had parallel guides. Does anybody know if there are any after market or 3D printed parts or other accessories that would be compatible with Dewalt?
Thank you for coordinating this! Got the TSO after looking at it for a long time, and thankful for the discount code. Next - a video and discount code on the parallel guide system? :)

Genius domino bonus technique. Something I was struggling with being 100% accurate.

@@TheSmartWoodshop SMART to move out of the path. I don't fool with weather hype on TV, but National Hurricane Center data indicates Ian is no joke.

The GRS-16 PE makes since even though it cost a bit more
Thanks Ron. Great tip to use a track & TSO to locate dominos or biscuits!
Yes, it has been a good alignment tool and now I want to work out the stops on the track for repeatability

I didn't want an adjustable one for accuracy reasons.

No need for 2. I like having a second one when I am using a long rail and short rail on a project. It’s a time saver, but a luxury not necessity.😎🤙
I might have missed it in the video but what is the functional difference between the two squares shown here? The GRS-16 vs the GRS-16PE?

You only need one square. I would get a set of parallel guides then you can do anything.
You can just use the plunge / anti-kickback stops hat come with the FESTOOL tracksaw. Just measure once, place the stops and done
Yep!
Another awesome teaching video
Glad you enjoyed it

From the top view camera angle, it’s basically a giant combination square😁
It is just that and accurate as well.
After eyeing this for a couple years, I finally bought one a few weeks ago during the last Paulk promo!
Do you recalibrate the TPG when you move from track to track or do you have a set for each track?
I have one track and 3 stops dedicated to my GRS
