      Agreed, I have the 870E Aorus Elite, this was helpful. Unfortunately, the memory tune locked my system up at POST. I had to flash the CMOS and try again. I have Corsair 6400 CL36 memory that came with the board from Newegg. The memory tune was the problem, I think. I'm not liking this memory but not sure if it's worth changing it. I'll have to do some research on how to best set it up to work with this CPU. My GPU is the 4080 Super not the 4090, we'll see how this tune works soon.

    You are the first RUclips channel I have seen that has broken this down in detail. I tend to spend days fine tuning new builds mainly focusing on getting as steady as possible frame time graph, trying to keep my 1pct and .1pct lows as consistent as possible. It is hard to explain how important this is, and how much tuning actually effects 1440p and 4k, everyone want to argue online about how unimportant high res gaming is in CPU benchmarks. But there is a huge performance difference at high res with up scaling that no one take into account. some Processor do up scaling way better than others, and tuning makes a big difference. I think it has taken Stalker 2 to really make people see how important CPU performance is with up scaling.

    Nice turorial ! However -40 allcore CO is most likely not stable at all in heavy loads (not gaming). My 9800x3d is only stable at -15 in heavy benchmarks (Prime95 LFFT / Y-Cruncher / OCCT etc) . In games I can do -35 ,but i dont risk the potentional BSOD and corrupted windows/ save files ,so i stick with -15.
    Tip : you SOC is waaay too high for only 6000 RAM /2000FCLK , you can lower it to 1,15 - 1,2Vfor sure .

    • @pyurologie
      @pyurologie  2 месяца назад +8

      that SOC setting only sets high limit. in practice, it only hits around 1.2. I dont usually do synthetic benchmarks as I use these rigs for gaming/editing so they will never see that level of stress its not useful for me personally but thats good to know. Others I spoke to have been running -40 with no issue as well

      To me stabe means stable in every scenario . Some games are just as demanding as a synthetic benchmark, for example shader compilation in Stalker2 or The Last of Us . @@monkeywizzi2025 I can run 5.4Ghz using +200Mhz that PBO allows. If I try to increase it to 5.5Ghz by increasing the BUS speed the CPU starts using a lot of voltage (1.32v) and temps jump to near 90C. Whereas, at 5.4Ghz I run at about 1.28v under load and temps are at 86C. The performance difference was none, I think because the CPU was running too hot at 5.5Ghz. I'm using -25 Curve Optimizer. 36-36-36-96 (CAS latency 36)

    One more thing I would like to add that not many people are actually aware of is turning HPET (High precision event timer) off. While by itself it's only a like 1-2% FPS boost, it makes the game feel quite a bit smoother, even though the actual FPS number is the same, and also seemingly more responsive. It worked wonders for when I wanted to run streets on my old 7700K and actually made it playable, and now on my 7800X3D it still is a noticeable difference.

    So I am wondering, and hope you can clarify this, If I understand correctly the x3d turbo mode turns off smt mode automatically when enabled. My only concern is that it may cause microstutters in titles that utilize mutithreading. Since the 9800x3d has a single ccd the mode is not that useful so would it be more ideal to turn x3d turbo off and keep smt on? (I am also aware it may do something with memory as well but not certain) Let me know your thoughts/experiences, thank you.

    • @pyurologie
      @pyurologie  2 месяца назад +4

      yeah manually shutting off SMT with X3D turbo mode is kind of redundant because turbo mode already does it, but I just do it anyways.
      It will be dependent on the specific titles. Most games will benefit from SMT disabled. There are some titles where it may not show benefit, but you'll have to see that on a game to game basis. All the titles I play benefit from maxing out each core to full capacity instead of spreading it across multiple cores.

    Do you know if the Scalar has any negative impact on CPU longevity? I have mine set to 10X, and it seems stable. Does a higher scalar increase power draw, or provide a more consistent voltage to the CPU? I can't really find good information on this. Thanks!

    • @pyurologie
      @pyurologie  2 месяца назад +2

      it basically allows the CPU to push harder in terms of voltage, which technically increases heat. Since the 9800X3D runs so cool anyways, I'm personally not very worried about it decreasing overall life of the CPU. It's just allowing it to reach whatever voltage it needs to stay boosted longer. On top of that, boost clocks are capped by PBO, so it's not like it's pushing the CPU indefinitely.
      In cases where the temp would go to an unhealthy level, then I'd be worried about longevity. But, even on 10X scalar for me, my chip stays extremely cool in the 50s. Hope that explanation helps. If you're extremely cautious, then remove the scalar setting, but overall I'm not worried one bit about longevity using it after seeing the temps and voltages on these settings.

    • @Darkswordz
      @Darkswordz 2 месяца назад

      @@pyurologie Great, thanks! I'll keep an eye on it, and try some other lower settings to see if it changes voltages much. I get about 83C when running Cinebench R24 with 150w power draw. In gaming, it only pulls about 75W and stays around 55-60C with a 360mm AIO.

    • @dkindig
      @dkindig 2 месяца назад

      I'm running 10X with a Scythe Fuma 3 air cooler with 3 fans, max temps 87* in Cinebench R23 with 165W draw. Gaming temps are in the low to mid 60's at around the same power draw (75W). Looks like there's a consistent 5* differential between our cooling methods.

    • @Darkswordz
      @Darkswordz 2 месяца назад +1

      @@dkindig Cinebench R23 this my CPU harder than R24 does. In R24 I get about 83C, but in R24 I get 87C, with a 7X scalar currently. My wattage is lower than yours though, at about 155w in R23. I tried a manual overclock to 5.4Ghz @ 1.240v and temps and power draw were about the same, but it crashed in R23. Interestingly, I can run PBO + 200 offset to reach 5.4Ghz and it passes R23. Maybe I just need more voltage in the manual overclock, but I was already pushing high 87C as it was and didn't feel like trying higher core voltage. Anyways, I'll be happy where it is for now. It's still a huge boost in performance from my old 10900K. :)
