HI Jess. great drive and commentary , this brought back childhood memories for me as I visited both U S airbases in the 1950's with my dad when he delivered to them in his truck. We slept on base as it was along haul from Lancashire back then,(no motorways ) The standout memories were how friendly everyone was with us and the size and styles of the American cars. I treasured the Baseball I was given by a U S soldier. Thanks for bringing back happy times from my childhood, I am 75 years young now.
I love it. It's so cool to be able to bring back memories for people. Also, to have them share them with me. I love getting to learn a little bit more about you all. I absolutely love sharing this adventure. I think you are taking the time to share your story. I hope you have a wonderful day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Interesting the two bases and some lovely little typical British lanes... I saw you and Chris put a short seaside clip on recently... may I suggest that you might like to head to Horsey in North East Norfolk and see the seals whilst they are still on their breeding beach. A lovely beach walk, with some old WW2 gun inplacements still there, you can take dogs on the beach as long as on leads and you don't get too close to the seals. Also a lovely dog friendly restaurant at Waxham Barns, next door village to Horsey... Horsey also has an interesting café themed on WW2... then not far away is the famous red and white candy striped lighthouse at Happisburgh (pronounced Haze-borough)
It is so fabulous being able to explore. Thank you for the wonderful recommendation. We definitely have an ever growing list of places to visit before we have to leave. Thank you so much for your kindness and support. We hope you have a lovely day! Cheers 🤍 Jess & Chris x
Thank you Jess for a wonderful drive with you, from start to finish this was a pure delight, thank you so much for sharing. My best wishes to you, Chris and your family.
Friend, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the ride with me! It's so fabulous to have wonderful, supportive people like you all. We absolutely love sharing our adventures with you all. I hope you have the most wonderful day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
It was beautiful, but I do agree. I can't wait till it's in full bloom once again. Thank you for watching and your support. Hope you have a wonderful day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
There is just nothing like cruising the country lanes of England, like this. Thank you for the pleasure of "driving your route", your 'neighbourhood'. I'm back in my original home near Cape Town, South Africa, which has its own unique beauties, but your video shows the incomparable delights of Norfork, too.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I definitely love driving and seeing all the wonderful villages and towns. England has some wonderful hidden treasures. Thank you for your comment and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Did some of my British Army Infantry training near Thetford as a 16 yr old . way back in 1977.. We used to see the fighters taking off and landing .. when we were dug in .. out in the field... really great at night... It's a very flat area of England . no proper hills to speak of except perhaps Ely.. in the fens..
Whilst Norfolk is known as a flat county it is surprisingly hilly in places. The Norfolk Broads area is flat but in Norwich, around the coast and in other places like Diss, for example, there are hills to make you puff!
Thank you so much for your time sharing and for your service!! I appreciate you coming along for the ride with me. I hope you have a lovely day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Hiya. Love that you've learnt the road and know where the hazards/foibles/idiosyncrasies are that you can drive around instead of over, if safe to do so. There are a few things like that where I live. Stay safe. All the best to you.
Hiya guy’s ☺️ that was a lovely video Jess! A nice relaxing drive, like Chris you both have adapted well to our way of driving in the uk! Yes your right a lot of it is patience’s and consideration as well! And yep’ potholes and bumps are the norm all over the uk! 🤷 Love Chris’s Mini Cooper sports 👍😀 🇬🇧💚🇺🇸
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video. It is so nice to have people come along for the ride with me! Those pot holes are no good for our poor cars. Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful Friday! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
What a nice video thank you. I have great memories of coming to RAF mildenhall for the big air show that used to take place in early summer in the 80’s. I remember seeing my first big US cars and cans of strange soda, I’d never seen Mountain Dew or root beer before😂
I am so thankful you could take this ride with me and have wonderful moments come back. I truly hope it made you know how wonderful everything is. I appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Thanks for another very pleasant drive out Jess. I have been to Mildenhall twice, once in the 1970's and once in the 1990's. On both occasions it was for their annual (then) Air Fête. Both were brilliant airshows and memorable days out. Lots of F4 Phantoms, and at the later event a B2 Spirit bomber. Regards x
I am so thankful that you enjoyed and could come along with me for a lovely ride. It is very kind of you to think my voice is relaxing. I hope you have a great day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
A lot of these roads would originally have been created for horse and cart traffic Jess. They will have been improved and widened over the past 100+ years to accommodate vehicles. Unfortunately, they still don't seem to be able to repair the potholes quickly enough..... The restaurant you mentioned may only open in the evenings.... You could get the phone number and check, by calling them one evening...
Thank you for the wonderful insight and recommendation on calling. I just think it's hilarious it's always closed when I'm around, haha... I really appreciate you, friend. Happy Friday! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
👍 such straight roads... oh yes, you're in Suffolk! you are always welcome to come to the rural south-west for a completely different experience (lots of twists and turns and hills too)
I love how you are so enthusiastic about the same roads I drive all the time & I pay no attention to what i'm going past - you do. I love that. Lakenheath has changed a lot since 9/11, with the closing of the road that used to run right through the middle of the base. & whatnot. If you are not American & need to work on the base it is a nightmare now! Brilliant video though!
Just love driving and getting to share with you all. It's so much fun. I can only imagine how much it has changed since then. I hope you have a lovely week ahead. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Drive on the left. A very important reminder indeed to overseas visitors/workers in the UK. At the risk of starting a political controversy on your channel but as a sobering reminder as the wife & mother of a family who lives & works on an RAF base in the UK (or anyone from overseas living/working in the UK who is not used to driving on the left) and just as an interesting aside, I wondered if you had heard of the case of Harry Dunn & Anne Sacoolas in recent years. In 2019 British teenager Harry Dunn was riding his motorcycle near the exit of RAF Croughton, a USAF listening station, when a car travelling towards him on the wrong side of the road collided with him and he was killed. Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a 'CIA employee' working at the RAF USAF Croughton base was driving the vehicle (a Volvo XC90) and had just turned out onto the main road on the wrong side of the road outside the base and driven about 400 yards when she collided with Dunn. Sacoolas admitted to careless driving and this corroborated CCTV footage. However, she fled to the US from a flight out of the RAF Mildenhall base, apparently on the advice of the US government which caused some diplomatic/legal controversy not least because there were many questions about whether Sacoolas or/and her husband were even entitled to diplomatic immunity and what their actual jobs(s) were on the RAF base and several other questions about the case. In 2019 Dunn's parents met with President Trump at the White House. In September 2022 Anne Sacoolas appeared by video link from the US in court. In December 2022 Sacoolas was sentenced in absentia to eight months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and was disqualified from driving for 12 months. There have been many traffic cases involving US citizens & servicemen on UK roads over the years so let's hope you and your family all stay safe on the roads while in the UK.
Thank you so much for that insightful information. We most definitely appreciate you hoping we stay safe on the road. We obey road laws for our safety and the safety of others around us. Thank you for your comment and your time. Hope you have a good day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I really enjoyed that! It's great seeing things through another's eyes 😊😊😊 I love winter trees, especially those with lots of Mistletoe in them, so congrats to RAF Lakenheath - there are many trees with it on in the 150 yards to the exit, also at 12:40 ish at the roundabout. The tree on the right just as you speed up the video after that point is a perfect example - beautiful!
We truly enjoy the winter trees, too. We have evergreens in the States, but different than the ones that stya green all year here. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers 🍻 Chris and Jess.
Hi Jess. I have only ever been on to the base at Mildenhall when they used to hold the airshow, I’m guessing it was during the 80’s when I was a kid. I just remember that the weather was great during those summers, and the atmosphere on base was amazing. I was in awe of seeing a C5 Galaxy with the nose cone raised and the ramps down at both ends. I walked right through one of those beasts. Those were good times. My aunt on my dad’s side of the family used to work on the base but I don’t recall what she used to do for a job. 😊
I loved air shows when I was growing up! My family was stationed here in the 80s when I was younger. I wish they still done the air shows over here. Thank you so much for sharing with me. I appreciate your time and hope you have a lovely day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Jess that was great and I agree its nice just to drive and unwind! I also agree that by driving within the speed limits allow you to take on board the stunning views around us on a daily basis! Cute dachund with its coat on I must agree as we have 3 dachund's and they all have jumpers and coats depending on the weather! I do feel sometimes us English people take for granted the shear beauty of our country! Thanks for sharing Jess
I appreciate you coming along with me and enjoying the ride. The speed limits are there to ensure everyone is safe. Also, slowing down to enjoy life while driving is something I do often. Thank you so much for your support! Hope you have a wonderful day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Very interesting video. My Mother was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk . She left at 18 to go to London to train as a Nurse and lived in London, The Midlands abs Wales but nade frequent visits back home to visit family.. her favourite day out was a visit to Southwold . As a child she said she remembered the American Flying Fortress aircraft coming home.. all beaten up....poor lads
My friend, I appreciate you. Thank you so much! We're happy to have you. Almost definitely, I will miss a lot of things about the UK! I will definitely come back to visit often. If I win millions, then I will come back and buy a home as well to holiday in. 😉 I truly appreciate your comment and your time watching. Hope you have a lovely day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Driving down those country B roads when relaxing is great but what makes it more so is the seamless way you connect with other roads, mainly due to slip roads and above all the roundabouts. With no traffic, it is just one long drive without having to wait at a junction for no reason. No need to reply and a very enjoyable ride with you.
Friend, I love to reply. It is a very relaxing thing being able to just enjoy the back roads the the B roads. I love driving it always makes me feel free in a way. I appreciate you and hope you have a wonderful day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
What a great video Jess! Your drive is great, my commute is into central London, Westminster 😅, not quite so nice. I also like you're driving in the UK, it's quite a feat it's truly awesome Chris and yourself have done this. I'm a Brit, but I have a Florida driving license, and I know how it is driving the other side. RESPECT. Hope you do a live Q&A on the 2nd February 😁
Oh, friend, I appreciate you coming along for the ride with me. It was quite intimidating at first to drive over here, but now it's like nothing. It's going to be crazy when we have to go back. And I have to drive on the other side of the road... My brain may have to take a minute to adjust.. 🫣 As always, thank you so much for your kindness and support! I guess if people ask questions while on the live, we can answer. Hope you have a wonderful day, friend! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
When USAF was at Chicksands in Bedfordshire I worked on the base for a while and was able to get my favourite chocolate chip cookies the base personnel used to get them for us and they used to put on a great open day
I love chocolate chip cookies, and I'm so sorry you can't get them anymore!! Thank you so much for watching and coming along for the ride. I hope you have the most amazing day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Lovely video Jess. 🙂 03:00 Hey! You sound like my former wife: "Turn left" indeed!!. 😉🙂 03:55 We don't have recommended speeds in the UK. We have maximum speed limits like the one you passed there and minimum speed limits although the latter are very, very rare. They are designated by the limit in white numbers on a blue circular sign. 👍
Thank you so much! Thanks for the call out, I caught it, but it was too good for me to edit the video. Thought you all would get a good chuckle.. At my expense. I truly appreciate your information! I hope you have the most wonderful day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I have a Fiveways near me in my city. I have light-up speed signs about but not green, that's a new one. For those with cruise control use that for keeping under the speed limit, works well. When I drove in France and Germany I had to rely on the passenger to know what's coming in my UK car. Nice drive and narrative Jess. We are county neighbours as I am in Essex.
How cool. Some of the larger roundabout are a little intimidating at times. I do enjoy them but it is a little scary. And this has been a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, neither one of our vehicles has cruise control here. We really appreciate your time and hope you have a wonderful Friday! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Hi Jess. Lovely drive around our area. How are you coping with the dark mornings and evenings? Winter is my least favourite season, but you can now see the evenings getting gradually lighter, thank goodness. I’m hoping this years weather is better this year also, 2023 was one of the wettest on record.
I appreciate you coming along with me for the drive. With the dark days, I'm taking Vitamin D every day. I love the winter the most only when it snows. 😉 That's a good fast. It was wet, but we still make sure to get out and not let it slow us down. We just love exploring this beautiful place. Thank you for your support. I hope you have a lovely day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I've heard that few Americans have passports, so that must mean that few ever get to leave the country. But from my experience, that's normal for most if not all, of the people in overseas countries. Its only in Europe where everyone has been somewhere else, and that's largely because it's easy, quick and cheap to get around. If you live in the London area, or in a provincial city, you can easily go for even just a day return to another country - I've done it, more than once.
Thank you so much! My brain said that doesn't sound right... I hope you have the most wonderful day! Thank you for your time watching and commenting. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I do believe that all airbases are RAF , the only exception was RAF Coltishall, which for a short period of time. (Tail end of WW2) It was under command of the Polish. Coltishall no longer operational, closed in, about, 2008. Just down the road from me, miss the noise of the Jaguar's. Nice to see our country through someone else's eyes. Thanks for the drive, beware of the snow that keeps being predicted. Old enough to remember heavy snow fall. lol
Yes, you're correct, my friend. We love being here and able to share our fun with you all. I'm so happy to have you along for the ride. Happy Friday Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I really like these videos where you are just driving around talking about stuff. Coincidentally after watching this I decided to start watching back some of my old driving videos and the first one (10 years ago) includes the stretch past RAF Lakenheath. Looks like not much has changed but the birdwatchers area was smaller then. ruclips.net/video/IQGdhglI9SQ/видео.html sorry, not great picture quality.
I'm glad you like them! We love exploring and driving here. I will check out your channel. Thank you for your support and time watching. Really appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Haha, We definitely set it wrong when we first moved here... We said Methworld till we realized that was wrong... lol, Hope you have a wonderful rest of your week. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Nice one jess, you seem to have mastered driving over hear very well. i am impressed. are you driving an Automatic or stick as you Americans say. Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire are very pretty to drive through as well. but i suppose they are to far off from where you live
I appreciate you so much! I am driving a manual. Oh, I want to check both of these places out. I definitely don't mind a drive. Thank you so much for your time, and hopefully, you have a wonderful day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Did have to laugh u turned right not left pmsl. My little village has speed cameras and they help people not to speed thru. Is the gas and diesel prices cheap if you fill up on base ?.
Oh, Lord, have mercy... 😉 Appreciate the call out.. I'm not sure why I said that.. Was editing too fast to get it out to you all. Thank you so much for the call out. I love it! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Not a silly question, it is cheaper. We have a ration card they need to verify it is our vehicle when we fill up. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Chris and Jess.
jess east anglia 6000 years ago when egypt were building the great prymids eastanglia was under an icesheet several miles thick and the north sea did not excist so britain was not an island. when the ice sheet melted it left behind deposits of earth and rocks and minerals that makes east anglia the richest greenest most productive farmland in england and fairly flat
Haha, oh, it was a mistake while editing, and I thought it was too good to fix it. I'm glad I could get a laugh out of some. Hope you have a lovely week ahead! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarnno worries you were in complete control of the vehicle, that's the main thing. I haven't seen too many of your videos. However you both drive very competentlyfrom what I have seen. Good words on patience and awareness of your surroundings. My gripe is drivers have look at their passenger when talking to them. That split second can be good night Vienna. Eyes firmly over the steering wheel. Just saying.🏴🤣
I'm so Glad you can get cheap Fuel ⛽️. Try buying from a English petrol station in future and enjoy the same drive without looking at your Fuel Gauge.?
We have bought fuel from off base. Just try to get it when we can on base because it is cheaper. We love just hoping in tue car and going and do almost all the time. There is so much to do/ see here. Thank you for your time watching and leaving us a comment. Happy Friday! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Yes, most definitely! I think I'm going to be a much better driver when I return to the US for sure. Thank you for your support Happy Friday! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarn It's a pity we can't keep you and your lovely family forever, the way that you're so appreciative of the sights, sounds and scenery of this old country, is a lesson for all of us who take it for granted - and have probably never seen most of it.
Loved the trip just Jess 🙂. I had to give up driving some years ago and its nice to get behind the wheel occasionally figurately speaking. commentary makes it more interesting.
Well, I'm so glad that you could take this ride! I love being able to share in my trip with you, my friend for all your support. Happy Friday, cheers 🤍 Jess x
No, thankfully! We watch out speed. Other than Chris accidentally driving in a bus lane.. 😆 Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate you. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
A typical woman driver who at 3:08 states that she going to turn left and immediately takes a right turn. Sorry, you are so sweet and nice I shouldn't make fun of you.
Oh, no worries at all. I was rushing to edit and I had to do a voiceover because the sound quality was horrendous... 😉 I was the one that made the mistake, and I laughed after I re-watch it.. I said it's too funny not to share. I'm me and can laugh at myself. 😉 Appreciate the call out 🤍 Jess x
Actually, you are an excellent driver who could a lot of our drivers to shame. Those mini roundabouts are often treated as an overbout with drivers going straight across or cutting them. It is good to see you driving around them. Stay safe.
@RonSeymour1 most definitely! I love to follow the road rules even when most think it's outrageous. I hope you have a wonderful evening, my friend. Cheers 🤍 Jess x

The music you played driving round Mildenhall sounds just like Cripple Creek Ferry by Neil Young, from his After The Goldrush album.🎙🎶
Oh, that is super cool. I'm going to look them up now! Thank you so much. I hope you have a lovely day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x

Thanks for the comment. Sounds like your mother got to see a lot of this country, too. We appreciate the comment. Cheers 🍻 Chris and Jess.
Love your channel! When you return to America could you ever imagine missing the UK and wanting to return to live?
My friend, I appreciate you. Thank you so much! We're happy to have you. Almost definitely, I will miss a lot of things about the UK! I will definitely come back to visit often. If I win millions, then I will come back and buy a home as well to holiday in. 😉
I truly appreciate your comment and your time watching. Hope you have a lovely day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Thank you, relaxing...
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Hope you have a lovely Friday.
As always, thank you so much for your kindness and support! I guess if people ask questions while on the live, we can answer. Hope you have a wonderful day, friend! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Good Driving Jess ! 👍
Thank you so much, friend. I am so glad you could come along with me! Hope you have a wonderful Friday. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Also little tip it’s okay going round a bumpy bit in the road but don’t got full speed over a railway line
Thanks for the recommendations. Read appreciate your time!
❤
Thank you, friend, for the support! 🤍 Jess x
Lovely video Jess. 🙂
03:00 Hey! You sound like my former wife: "Turn left" indeed!!. 😉🙂
03:55 We don't have recommended speeds in the UK.
That's a good fast. It was wet, but we still make sure to get out and not let it slow us down. We just love exploring this beautiful place. Thank you for your support. I hope you have a lovely day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Nice video. Thanks for sharing 😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Happy Friday, Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Right hand drive for driving on the left hand side
Happy Friday
Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I really like these videos where you are just driving around talking about stuff.
Coincidentally after watching this I decided to start watching back some of my old driving videos and the first one (10 years ago) includes the stretch past RAF Lakenheath. Looks like not much has changed but the birdwatchers area was smaller then.
ruclips.net/video/IQGdhglI9SQ/видео.html sorry, not great picture quality.
I'm glad you like them! We love exploring and driving here. I will check out your channel. Thank you for your support and time watching. Really appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Methwold? Sounds like something out of Breaking Bad..
Haha, We definitely set it wrong when we first moved here... We said Methworld till we realized that was wrong... lol, Hope you have a wonderful rest of your week. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
You should try HUBBLES fishery & resturant between Methwold & stoke ferry
Fabulous, thank you for the recommendation! I appreciate your time commenting and watching my video.
Sorry, maybe a silly question, but is fuel cheaper at the petrol station on the base?
Not a silly question, it is cheaper. We have a ration card they need to verify it is our vehicle when we fill up. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Chris and Jess.
@@DaydreamersBarn thank you. I did wonder 🙏
have you and chris ever seen this clip its al murray vs the americans ?
I have... It was funny! Thanks for asking. Will have to have Chris watch it. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Just an observation! Have you ever thought you may be a bit strange talking to yourself while driving?❤
Haha, well, I was talking to the camera so anyone can think what they want. I'm here just living my best life sharing with others. 😉 🤍 Jess x
jess east anglia 6000 years ago when egypt were building the great prymids eastanglia was under an icesheet several miles thick and the north sea did not excist so britain was not an island. when the ice sheet melted it left behind deposits of earth and rocks and minerals that makes east anglia the richest greenest most productive farmland in england and fairly flat
Wow, thank you for sharing. Thank you for your time. Have a lovely day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
“Right now where going to turn left” Turns right* 🙄🤣 we know what you meant
Haha, oh, it was a mistake while editing, and I thought it was too good to fix it. I'm glad I could get a laugh out of some. Hope you have a lovely week ahead! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
are you given a choice of living on-base or off-base ?
We are given the choice. We chose to live off-base and love it! Thank you for your question. We appreciate your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
thanks@@DaydreamersBarn
Turn left😂😂😂➡️
Love the call out!! Thanks love 😉 Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I think the word you're looking for Jess is more confident.
Yes, most definitely! I think I'm going to be a much better driver when I return to the US for sure. Thank you for your support
Happy Friday! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarn It's a pity we can't keep you and your lovely family forever, the way that you're so appreciative of the sights, sounds and scenery of this old country, is a lesson for all of us who take it for granted - and have probably never seen most of it.
How much is the diesel?
Chris said it's around 88p per liter on base for Diesel. Thanks for the question. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Turn Left ?
Haha, right.. it was too good to edit out for you all not to get a giggle out of. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Have you or Chris ever been caught out by any of our millions of speed cameras??
