Sodium Benzoate is E211 and appears to be reasonably safe when in small quantities. The US products appear to rely too much on sweetness. Don't forget to sign up for the Tesco Club Card. That is a lovely desk and you made a good choice. You have to do a taste test between US and UK or European chocolate. US chocolate contains butyric acid, the same ingredient found in Baby Sick Have a great Christmas.

Jess and Chris have work very hard to understand the British way of life so I have give them both a 8/10 but they still have room to improve as for Chris and his driving skills, now he has found the brake peddle I think 7/10 so room for improvement. That was an excellent video, very informative. E211 is exactly the same thing as Chris had in his product. E Numbers, as they are called, is an EU (European Union) thing about food additives which covers food ingredients like colours, flavourings and preservatives. They were given numbers in the list, and that became an easy way to save space on the food labels as everything is four characters long. Various things have been banned over the years for causing health issues - my favourite was a colouring called Sunset Yellow. It made lemon curd a bright yellow instead of the dull, almost beige we get nowadays. Apparently it caused some people to be hyperactive and have behavioural issues. A quick check on your search engine will tell you what the E Number actually is.
Another interesting thing that you missed would have been to have compared the prices of each item.
Mountain Dew in America is certainly nicer, I think sales from the hotel vending machine shot thru the roof when I was there!

The results of your comparison are largely as expected. The use of Corn syrup is discouraged in the UK, and foods tend to have less sugar and fewer additives. As a Type 2 diabetic I check labels constantly anyway. One favourite I really miss is Cadbury ( Cadbree) chocolate with Oreo pieces in it. OMG! Have you tried it?

I had heard that some of the foods in the States were rather more 'processed' than here in the UK. In the UK, when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, we had Porridge or Ready Brek pretty much similar to what Oats so Simple is without the fruit stuff, but you could add that yourself to the 2 I listed.
I don't mind American snacks or produce, drinks you can definitely tell they have this artificial sweetness to them from the corn syrup - well not artificial but tastes like it. And there is one drink I hate with a passion when I tried it, A&W's Root Beer - it was like hospitals in a can - such a weird taste.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, in the UK drink companies had to reduce their sugar content in drinks or face a sugar tax, Coca Cola did reduce their sugar a bit but is still over the 17% content and had sugar tax added.

I’m no food expert but it did seem the UK manufactured products had the slight edge. It’s probably a case of a persons pallet will slowly adapt to its regular flavours and intake. Also I assume products produced in North America have slightly different ingredients to Europe or Africa or Australia because not every vegetable, spice, oils, or Herbs (with a “H” 😁) are naturally available in each continent in huge quantities if at all, and as you pointed out some food stuffs can’t travel the world and taste absolutely perfect.

I certainly think in the post WWII era, food processing companies both in the US and Europe, have been allowed to put additives in, whose “side effects” have never been fully challenged or disclosed. I think to an extent this is still happening, although the food standards agency in the UK has been more focussed on what goes in and advising consumers of possible health issues. I sometimes wonder if any of these additives promote brand addiction? The us of fructose corn starch is not a good thing, as it is fatty and can cause liver issues. I personally have found my food in the US has been less flavoursome than in the UK, but that may have been down to choice, or lack of local cuisine knowledge . Jesus, I do rabbit on. Keep up the good vids.

The US base does fall under the UK laws as the American ones as well. It's very crazy. We drive like we do off-base. Also, homes on base have both pugs for convenience for the people who choose not to live off base.
I felt like my family truly needed to live off base and support the local business and people. Also, I feel like it has allowed us to appreciate more of what the UK/ England has to offer. I just love it here and will miss it when we have to leave.

Whats funny about Brexit is a lot of these food laws were tabled by the UK into EU law, however a quarter of all our food is imported into the UK from EU countries which will remain controlled by the European Union snd after leaving the EU, most academics say this will increase due to ever increasing cost of farming in the UK, especially around labour ...on a funny side note though, we know American products contain a lot more harmful products than UK products, however the average lifespan of someone in the UK is 3 years longer than in the US , but it wont stop me going to in 'n' out for my burgers when i go to the US, there delicious 😂❤

Have you tried English mustard? If not be careful, do not slap it on like American mustard.

You guys do eat a lot of corn syrup. I think the US should stop using it because it is so unhealthy. Even if a product costs a little more, you cannot put a price on health. Just found your channel recently and subscribed. Enjoy your time in the UK. Hope you miss us when you go back. Thankyou for your service.

We do, unfortunately! We are definitely changing our diet. Being here has woken us up with all the crap we would eat in the US. Cheers 🤍 Jess

Has to be Colmans Mustard. Try Salad Cream. Far less additives/chemicals/Sugar in English food !!

Agreed on the additives, etc. Something we want to use and consume less of. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

Don't buy super market brands. Super Markets are good at selling food buy they're terrible at making them.

Ok you are yoopers in suffolk well I'm a ipswich boy in west michigan...and I'm warning you prepare for sticker shock when you go back to Michigan much higher. Than uk.... not because of Trump or Biden. But because health care insurance, costs and a bit more for more record profits
For instance KitKat at tesco 83c
    KitKat at meijers. $1.80

The reason most UK foods are of such a high standard, is because of EU regulations. Stupidly, we have now left the EU, so we can expect standards to start slipping soon, especially if the Tory party stay in power.

I completely understand and hope the high quality stays. I love and appreciate the high quality that is offered here over the US. Thank you for your lovely comment, my friend. 🤍 Jess x
