    Great video with lots of interesting information, thank you!
    People tend to forget the CUMULATIVE effect of toxic chemicals, which makes everything more complicated. If you eat a lot of meals that are stored in PFAS lined packaging, AND if you also cook mostly in non stick pans, AND if you wear makeup everyday, AND wear mostly clothes with PFAS right against your skin such as leggings and you sweat in them, AND if you use a yoga mat that picks up PFAS from your carpet, AND if you drink tap water that contains PFAS, well… even if it’s a small amount of toxic chemicals for each product it can add up to dangerous levels that can trigger serious health issues.
    Another concern is the COCKTAIL effect, when many different toxic chemicals create strange sets of symptoms and illnesses when they accumulate in a person’s body.
    This is very difficult to study because every person reacts differently and scientists don’t know how this mix of chemicals is truly affecting our body. Since there are endless possibilities regarding the type of chemicals, their toxicity level, their concentration and the way they interact with other chemicals in our blood, organs etc… there really is no way to study the effects all these toxic chemicals have on our body.
    The future doesn’t look good though, as we use more and more plastics including silicone cooking molds and a million other products that are supposed to make our life easier.
    People don’t realize that they are ingesting very unhealthy particles and feeding them to their kids too 😢
    If we could just wake up and go back to simpler products made of healthier materials like linen for our clothes, and cast iron or glass for our cooking molds, now that would be a good start.
    When people want to exercise they go play soccer or softball on an athletic field covered with Astroturf filled with crumb rubber, which is made of tiny pieces of old car tires 🤮
    Nobody seems concerned about the heavy metals and other toxic chemicals found in this recycled rubber, it’s really puzzling.
    Then they take their kids to a playground that has a soft ground cover made of rubber pellets glued together aka PIP (“Pour In Place” rubber flooring) which is also from old car tires. Nobody seems worried about their kids crawling all over this type of flooring with bare hands then eating a snack without washing or even wiping their hands to avoid ingesting too much rubber dust, no problem!
    Only a few counties in the US have banned these rubber pellets but most towns are now installing a PIP rubber flooring in their kids playgrounds and Astroturf on their athletic fields.
    No wonder kids who play several times a week on those fields have such a high rate of leukemia or other cancers, especially the goalies who are in contact with the toxic rubber pellets…
    Our homes are filled with toxic stuff, and people have no problem putting pieces of furniture like IKEA in their kids room, not realizing that the glue in these particle boards releases toxic airborne formaldehyde particles that are very unhealthy, especially for youngsters.
    Even smart people are still heating up their food in a microwave in a plastic container or worse in a cardboard box from the restaurant, not realizing that there are PFAS in the lining of the box.
    I have a friend who’s all about clean living, healthy lifestyle etc… but she has no problem putting her kids’ plastic lunch boxes in the dishwasher everyday, it’s disheartening…She doesn’t want to hear the fact that BPAs and other toxic chemicals get released because of the heat in there 🙄
    I have another friend who’s an environmentalist but she mostly wears synthetic fabrics and doesn’t care about the tiny pieces of nylon or polyester that her clothes shed during each wash in her machine. Where does she think all these microplastics end up if not in the ocean?
    It’s really sad because we now have access to lots of information about this stuff online but most people don’t want to change their bad, lazy habits.
    I’m afraid the force of inertia is far too great, and people love their stretchy clothes, silicone cooking molds, cheap furniture and stain resistant sofas way too much to give them up.
    How can we remain hopeful when even smart people don’t want to hear the truth about toxic chemicals in their clothes, homes, playgrounds etc…?

      Very well said! Thank you for taking the time to write and reach out. I think people are waking up to this. You're absolutely right, the total toxic load is becoming more and more difficult for our bodies to manage and people get sick. What I think we really need is for more doctors to start recognising that some (if not most) illnesses are caused by our environment and popping a pill isn't gonna solve anything or save anyone. We just need to keep on spreading the word :)

    Not all toxins are made by humans. One can go to the most remote wilderness and still be exposed to things that fit your definition of "toxin".
    Radon gas, Mercury, Arsenic, Lead, viruses, bacteria, molds......all occur in nature. The problem with indoors is that the concentrations tend to be higher, especially in the airtight homes people are building now to be more energy efficient.

    • @healthyholistichomes
      @healthyholistichomes  Год назад +4

      That is very true - the reason we started Whomesome in the first place because we got severe mold toxicity when living in Portugal. Most houses there are moldy because of outdated building practices. And historically they haven't had airtight houses but they're building them now without any regard to proper waterproofing.

    • @wisenber
      @wisenber Год назад +2

      @@healthyholistichomes What's interesting is that many of the outdated methods from before electricity or supplemental insulation could actually allow enough airflow to dry the house. Wood burning fireplaces and stoves of that era would draw air through leaky windows and doors. Pourous walls allowed water vapor to escape and maintain humidity.
      Our pursuit of modern airtight methods to conserve energy now requires energy to accomplish what the homes did passively before.
      I'm looking at converting one of my outbuildings into an "earthship" by running several half meter pipes about 2.5 meters below the surface and having them exit on the underground north facing side. The pipes should create their own airflow and circulate the naturally occurring 14 C air year round. The south facing side has two layers of glass without UV filtering. In the summer, it should cool and the winter, the sun heats the thermal mass. So basically fresh air with little to no heating or cooling energy needed.

    • @healthyholistichomes
      @healthyholistichomes  Год назад +2

      @@wisenber We learned about that as well to an extent after the incidents with our houses. But what you're saying is really inspiring me to look a bit more into it - and who knows, maybe even make a video in the future!
      Best of luck with the earthship project! Sounds wonderful and definitely something we will explore when we're ready to build our own house!
      Thank you for sharing!

    • @wisenber
      @wisenber Год назад +2

      @@healthyholistichomes Earthship style homes can be a hassle to get building permits in most countries, and few banks will finance one. They also need to have a south facing front to work. I have about 9 hectares of land outside of city zoning laws which lets me experiment a bit.
      The house I actually have there is made of galvanized sheathed structural insulated panels with the roof made of the same. It has cladding and a metal roof to make it blend in. Geothermal heating and cooling. The insulation from sound is more than I like. You can't hear wind or birds or much of anything. Nice views, but it just feels sterile. I find myself spending more time in the barn or the shop than the house.

    • @healthyholistichomes
      @healthyholistichomes  Год назад

      @@wisenber That's awesome. We're located in Estonia so we get really pretty harsh winters here (can go up to like -30*C, I just googled that the coldest it's ever been is like -43.5*C) so I'm not too sure if it's really possible here. But land and forest is abundant and we're slowly thinking about an as natural and healthy as possible dream home.

      I guess you have to kind of weigh your options depending on the situation. For example, if you're on a busy road, perhaps not. Or if you have a brand new car and it hasn't off-gassed yet, then would be good whenever possible.

    What toxins could cause joint/ligament issues? I am very conscious how I live my life and have been for decades but lately as of the last year or so my joints dont feel great tbh.

    • @healthyholistichomes
      @healthyholistichomes  Год назад +1

      This is a very tough question.
      I don't know of any direct correlations with certain toxins. But various environmental toxins can certainly be a cause of inflammatory disorders, which might be behind the issues - since chronic inflammation is one of the main drivers of joint pain and arthritis.
      But we can't really attribute this inflammation only to environmental toxins. Yet our total toxic load is strongly related to our inflammatory response.
      So, they definitely do play a role. And in order to get more detailed help, we recommend working with a functional doctor and running functional tests.

      Except that the distortions weren’t imposed on us from outside of us. WE created them. They also are a reflection of what”makes us human”. I, if there is an answer to the dilemma of human existence, it is outside of us. As Christ said, “It’s from within that all the evil comes. “
