The exhaust is a copy of a japanese culture called 'bosozuko' started with bikes and then moved to cars, with extreme looks etc.

I do like that 505, same colour as my ‘86 Turbo.

Great video and love the channel. I had to press subscribe after listening to your amazing commentary. I've never heard a car enthusiast display so casually such a fantastic breadth of knowledge on every single motor car that you come across ..I could listen to you all day Simon....that your obviously not prerecording or reading it from a script males it even more amazing ..😳👍

Many thanks, much appreciated, I enjoy the ad-lib approach to be honest but, of course, you can sometimes get it wrong as well🫢

That exhaust is mostly from a Japanese car subculture called Bosozoku, very over the top styling modifications.

Mine is the orange Datsun 510/1600/Bluebird around 10 mins in (And the thumbnail!), as you correctly assessed mine is an import but they did sell a few in UK and they were badged as "Datsun 1600" here rather than a Bluebird (510 being the chassis code and American name that most people now them by nowadays). Funnily enough at the shop in Chichester I bumped into an elderly gentleman who apparently worked for one of the original Datsun dealers back in the early 70s who actually remembered these when they were new!

As soon as I saw it I knew it was the thumbnail car! Totally stunning car. I was a bit sketchy as I didn’t know much about them.. must be rare in the UK?

@@Lot76CARS Cheers! Yes they are fairly rare, although luckily there is a really great little community forming around them. Probably around 8 or so roadworthy at the moment that I know of, and hopefully another 4 or 5 that should be on the road within the next year or two. We are hoping to make next year's Retro Rides our first outing as a proper club with hopefully at least 5 cars

That's serious dedication to take OEM wheels and modify the rims. Nice to see the car retaining that nod to how it left the factory.
A lot a rare Japanese stuff there, can't believe that skyline was a home done paint job two decades ago, it looks fresh out of the body shop.
I like the look of that BMW 1602, also that Renault Super Cinq next to it.
I often think the MK1 Cavalier with its lack of a upper grill must have looked very futuristic compared to the Ford Cortina back in its day.
Your industry knowledge on those Japanese car acronyms shining through again Simon.
I like the Mk4 Celica too, I think the Mk5 is my favourite being the last to have pop up lights.
I remember the R8 400 touring joing the range pretty late in R8 production. They continued alongside the HHR 400 series.
I remember those Sweeny Almera TV ads.
I'd almost forgotten about the Mitsubishi Colt.
I always liked the unique body shell of the XR4.
I'd love to know more about that white Datsun saloon that looks a bit like a Lancia or an Alfa from the front end, not at all like Japanese cars if the time.
    The Hilman van looks cool.
The Audi 80/90/100 etc were great cars, very forward thinking and certainly more niche than the Audi we see today.
Nice to see the Truno, the Japanese seemed to go through a period of putting pip up lights on everything from sports cars to family saloons.
    That MGB GT looks great.
The Starion is such a unicorn, never seemed as common as the other Japanese sports cars.
Nice 200ZX, I liked both generations and the larger 300zx.

Thanks Mark so much to film at this one, definitely a date for next year! Some real unicorns and often several of the same model including the Colts! The more subtle stuff like that MGB was lovely to see as well. I didn’t see a single Megane, your pineapple yellow coupe would really stand out.

Excellent, so rarely seen these days compared with MB W124/E Class and the 5 series… my dad had two from new and F and then a G reg and he swore by them!

Looks like it was a great event. Must have been difficult to cut it down to just 2 videos !. It's great these cars are loved and looked after. Was it my imagination or were there not many French or Italian retro cars in evidence ?
Enjoyed both videos. Thank you Simon. I'll probably try and get down to this event in 2025
