  • Freelance translation jobs// If you speak multiple languages and have wanted to work from home, I am sure you have been looking to find freelance translation jobs online. And I know some of you even found some on the websites I have talked about in some of my previous videos.
The challenge with those translation jobs online is that many are in very competitive niches. So you can only get paid very little for your work.
However, there are certain niches that can pay you a lot more. Even for a freelance translator. As long as you choose the niches that add the most value to your customers. The niches that will allow you as a freelance translator to help your customer either make more money or save more money. As simple as that. I am not saying that other freelance translation jobs from home are not good. They are. But the lower the value to your customer, the lower your pay. So expect that.
So if you want to make money online and become a freelancer then this video is for you, because today we talk about 3 freelance translation jobs you can do online so you can also start working from home. I share with you 3 different freelance translation jobs from home and exactly what to expect you would do and how you’d bring value through each of them.
Make sure you watch till the end because there are a few gems in this list, I promise.

I've been learning Spanish since there are a lot of Spanish speakers out there. I took a little Italian in College maybe I'll get back into that too but yeah my goal is to become a translator and I've been looking at certain platforms that don't pay that well not beginners anyway so thanks for these suggestions these do pay a lot better. Hopefully when I'm ready I can find one of these jobs online maybe not the marketing since I don't have any experience in that but maybe the books or scripts I can do. Thanks again I really do appreciate this information that'll help me with my career goal. I'm also open to some of those other languages you mentioned if it'll make me more money. I'm gonna try to get a certification I don't know if these types of jobs require certification but yeah I just need to practice my sentence structure more and brush up on my vocabulary then I think I'll be a successful translator. The next class I'm taking is Spanish Film and Conversation. I've already been watching films and shows on Netflix which will help me adapt to the language. Wish me luck!

I'm a native Sundanese (Not Sudanese) with MA degree on Sundanese language education. I do translation, editing, and interpretation related freelance jobs. I found that most of the English-Sundanese translator relied on their "native status" without considering linguistical aspects, so this makes the translation very poor.

I am not a translator but considering a graduate MA diploma in translation ( English Hebrew , and i also speak Arabic as a native language) i think Hebrew is a very niche language so its valid under these great tips .
I will be happy if you have some tips how to start / go to this serious diploma which is by the way combines not only theoretical courses about translation but also integrates even more heavily practical courses .

i was able to find the following information from the web site of Bar-Ilan university - department of transltation studies :
      Practical courses:
"The skill-oriented translation and interpreting courses focus on translation both out of and into the mother tongue, with particular attention to richness of expression, effective use of resources, efficient retrieval of information and an ever-broader knowledge base in areas for which translations and interpreting are often needed."
      Theoretical courses :
"The theoretical background courses include seminars in such topics as literary translation, the translation of humor, intercultural communication, pragmatics, court and community interpreting, translation in history, intralingual translation, translation and ideology, and translation and technology."
The name of the program which i am interested in is " full MA program in translation and interpreting studies " and i would like to be specialized in written translation, it consist of about :
      4 theoretical courses.
      At least 3 seminars .
At least 8 practical courses .
I Hope its enough to give you a clear idea about this interesting program .

I speak fluent Finnish and English. I speak other languages too, but these are the two languages where I have equal experience. This includes business and legal language as well. I thought about offering my skills after I needed legal documents translated by a certified translator from English to Finnish. To my disappointment the documents had such terrible translation mistakes that I had to re-translate every page, get them stamped by the translation company and then pay for it. :) I also have a marketing degree and have built and run businesses in Finland, as well as in the United States.

Can you please help me? I am looking for a job as an online translator/interpreter. I speak Mandarin Chinese and I am from the Bahamas. I lived in China for 5 years. I was studying Vehicle Engineering while I was there, but due to the pandemic, I was unable to complete my degree. But upon returning home, I've worked with private companies that hire me to interpret in person when they order things from China. The last company I worked for flew a Chinese man in to build something that took 1 month to build. He was the brains behind the operation, and he had a team of local workers to help him build it, so I was the direct connection between the local team and the Chinese man. Apart from this, I also work with Immigration Department of the Bahamas to interpret in the court house. I love doing these jobs, but they are very scarce here. I don't mind a pay thats a it more moderate as long as I can find something that I can do consistently. can you please help me find a job?

Do you speak multiple languages? Well done! Does that make you a translator? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Suggesting not to translate word by word and trying to "adapt" the text for the target audience is a much too simplistic way to summarize endless theories about Translation studies. There is plenty of literature about translation techniques that this video cannot replace. By the way, "adapting the text" is what is called "localization". To those watching this video: do not underrate translation jobs, it takes years to learn how to translate properly and being bilingual is not enough. PS. There is no such thing as beginner friendly translation jobs

I couldn't agree more. I recently got my degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation. I did translate a couple of texts from English into Italian and from Russian into Italian.
Even though I've always prided myself in my ability to speak English at a pretty advanced level, I have noticed that it really only matters up to a certain point. There are a LOT of other things to consider when translating (and how well you know the source language is only a small part). Things such as achieving the proper style, making the text flow naturally in the target language, localization, even the language pair itself. For example, translating from English into Italian poses an additional challenge in that English is a more synthetic language, which uses a lot of lenghty, wordy compounds obtained by juxtaposition of several words. Italian, being a more analytical language doesn't really use this kind of compound word formation, so you have to render it with a clause or a whole sentence; which in turn contributes to making the target text even longer. Length is also another component. Chances are, your TT will be longer than the ST, but that also needs to be controlled. Your translation should not be twice as long as the original, and it should still try to maintain more or less the same style and tone, the same intentions, and convey the same core message as the original, while flowing naturally and not "looking like a translation". There are SO many factors 😅
And, as M. Eta Trabing said: _Being bilingual doesn't make you a translator or an interpreter more than having two hands makes you a pianist_
      It's so true!
