- In this weeks video, I'm presenting career options to people studying or graduating from language/linguistics degrees. It is common knowledge, that language jobs don't usually pay as much as technical careers, however, there is a much greater versatility than people think. Check it out and let me know in the comments if I missed something.

Thank you! I was starting to feel hopeless lately, I really didn't know how many possibilities there are with a language degree!
They are endless! :)
I normally don't comment on videos but I just gotta say thank you. Once I graduated I had no idea what to do but I still wanted to continue my Japanese studies from high school. However, a lot of my relatives always said that I could never get a job or there aren't any job opportunities in this career unless I wanted to become a teacher. This video really helped me a lot and encouraged me to actually apply and enrol in a diploma of languages. And to everyone else who is tossing and turning if they should do it or not, I say if you're very passionate about languages or anything in a particular area just go for it. And if it doesn't work out then at least in future you can try again it's never too late to start again whether you're 18 or 40 years old it doesn't matter. Consistency is key. And to anyone who would read this far congrats, I appreciate it. I hope you all have a nice day. O(∩_∩)O
🏆🏆🏆
theyre most likely right though. Languages (as I language graduate myself) don't offer good careers, yeah you might like the learning aspect or making new friends with the language you're learning. But I wouldn't recommend it to anybody knowing what I know today. Its mostly a waste of time (if you want to make it a career) and should be a hobby. If you don't want to end up unemployed learn a proper trade along with the language ASAP. If you don't want to be a teacher, 90% of the time, its a deadend pursuit.
This is really helpful, thank you! I'm considering a mid-life career change back to my first love, which is languages. One idea that you didn't mention, which would fascinate me, is a Dialect Coach.
Hi Simon, interesting, haven't heard of a Dialect Coach. What would this entail exactly?
@@Freelanceverse a dialect coach works with actors so that they sound convincing in a particular language, accent or dialect.
I see, that would be very interesting. No idea how to get into that though, but I'm sure there's info ou there online.
Did you end up changing careers? If so, what were you working as?
Thank you for this video! I knew that I wanted to invest my life in languages but as an introvert struggled with the idea of being a teacher in another country (that's the most common route I've seen people follow). You've provided a list of jobs that allow us to work independently with our target language.
Amazing, good luck on your journey!
Very great tips, thanks a lot for sharing this. Peace
Hi! I watched this video 2 years ago when I was fresh out of undergrad, lost without meaning in my life, and then you led me to discover my true calling of being in librarianship. Now I am in the middle of getting my MLIS and I just wanted to say, thank you so much! :)
Thanks for sharing!! That is incredible!
I've only recently found your channel and I love your videos though this might be my favourite one yet! There were SO MANY options in here so THANK YOU! As someone who did a joint honours degree in Computer science and French, I've been looking for a way to merge the two subjects and a technical writer sounds perfect and a career that I'll love. I'm off to do more research on it but thank you
Simplified and practical!! Great video, dude!
I have just graduated from ELT (English language teaching) and the first option I've got is applied linguistics since it relates to other areas such as psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics.
Spanish Subtitles by Lina Pineda :) thanks so much!
Very interesting Sir. Thanks
Thank you so much for this video!!!
You are so welcome! :)
GREAT VIDEO!!! Im going to research a lot of these thank you :D
Thanks Tess!!
Thank you for this video!!! I love linguistics but I've been having a hard time figuring out the right career for me, so this was super helpful!

That was extremely insightful! Thank you!

Glad it was helpful!
thank you so much for this video! subscribed so fast! i am almost done with a college degree that i honestly do not enjoy which is international business management, but my real passion is language learning and your channel helped me get motivated to persue my dream career path as soon as i graduate!
Awesome!! Welcome to the channel :)
This is one of the best resources I’ve ever encountered about my degree and career prospects. Thank you so much! You also have a really calming voice which make your videos really relaxing to watch :)
Thank you so much Sharleen ♥️
Thanks a lot!! The video was really helpful!
Glad to hear!! :)
Thanks a lot for this video, it is actually really instructive and very clearly structured... Danke dir :)
Gerne! :)
Thank you! This is very helpful
Awesome!
Thank you very much for this informative video! The way you presented the jobs was very engaging and I was very motivated and inspired.
I still have 3 years of regular school left before I go to university, but I wanted to look into possible fields of study and found myself very pleased with the variety of jobs for which a linguistics degree is of use. Many of these jobs sound like very much fun to me, especially language therapist, counselor, teacher, voice-over artist, maybe even translator for the voice-overs, and also a job as an academic linguist. I have much ease with learning languages and enjoy analyzing and noticing aspects of linguistics in my daily life and study. Even the obscurer topics of linguistics sound thrilling to me.
I still have a long way to go, so who knows what I'll end up doing, but I certainly have a lot of aspiration now.
I very much appreciate your well-researched and compelling review!
Keep going!
Thanks a lot. I have M. A. Linguistics and PhD in Applied Linguistics.
Thankyou...I think this will encourage to do my language studies ...🎖🎖🎖🎖

Thank you that was really helpful
Nice!
Thank you so much for this video! It’s really helpful since I wasn’t convinced if I should graduate in languages for the lack of jobs out there 😅
💙😊
Thanks for the video. It was helpful. I love your use of English, the idea of a lexicographer sounds enthralling. I love that. Thank you!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)

Ohhh ciao Ilenia! :D thanks for checking the channel out! Super cool :)
Good job mate!
Thanks
Great content👍
Wow thanks Abdul!! :)
As someone who is a polyglot who has just graduated, this is very helpful. I think I'm going to go the translation and interpretation route but I'm not sure. All I know is that I want to use my langages within a field or an industry that I like (hopefully international politics as I studied that as part of my degree). I'm willing to research all these options though!
Brilliant, thanks for the comment :)
Thanks for these videos. I will watch them. I majored in French and am also fluent in Spanish. I’m am currently teaching myself 3 more languages. What type of work do you translate?
Nice, Michelle, thanks for the comment! I mostly work on IT and sports related texts.
Great!
Currently a 3rd year on my Psychology Degree and after I graduate I am planning to translate on freelance mode in Japanese because of my interest in anime.
Happy to see that Romania is part of your interests, based on the map you have 😄
:D it's a map of Europe
I am just interpreting it as I like to 😁😁
Thank you.
Thank You!
Thank you for watching
You reall inspired me
Thank you!!
I LOVE languages to the point I can literally stay up studying Greek or Chinese but for me it's not just the passion that is everything I would like a degree in a science field because it would just come off handy when even deeling with everyday life.
very naive of me to think i won't find a job with my passion for language! thank you so much!
Best of luck!
Thanks 👌👌👌
No worries Kum, thanks for checking out the channel :)
i found this video and thank RUclips that I found it. I need to get into college or uni next year and I don't know what to do I'm into languages so I am thinking what to study.
Thanks a lot
No worries!
thanks a lot
Youre welcome :)
very good
thank you Inessa! :)
Thank you so much! I'm really passionate about romance languages and I want to pursue it at uni but my dad is constantly asking what job it'll lead to!!!
haha nice, show him this video then :) hi dad he/she will be fine in the languge industry :D
I love your eyes
oh thank you very much :)
I'm currently studying a French and Spanish degree to C1, I'm already fluent in two other languages which are English (native) and Portuguese, I want to be a private language teacher/tutor but my only concern is if I may struggle more finding students if I'm not a native speaker in both :/
Hi there, it depends where you teach. As long as you don't teach in the country where the language is native to, you will be fine teaching foreign languages as well :)
Pelo contrario, já que você já é fluente em português e nativa em inglês vc pode ser professora tranquilamente, inclusive as pessoas preferem professores nativos, q são mais raros.
I'm currently studying french on my own and I'm on my way to enroll in college and take linguistics as my course
Good luck!!
@@Freelanceverse Thank you!
Can you make a video about online courses to study certain linguistics branches?🙏
Hi Yulian, yes that's in progress :)
1000 views wow! thanks so much everyone :)
I feel I must say something here. I have a degree in French and German from a British university. I have tried on and off to get employment involving languages but all I got were short-term, mostly badly paid contracts. I now work in an office in a hospital that requires no use of languages whatsoever.
Sorry to hear that :( of course it doesn't work out for everyone, there is always a certain amount of luck involved and it depends how well you network I guess
Hello, Adrian. What do you say about people who study dead languages or very rare languages just to collect the data before they completely disappear? And, there's also the job of a guide, who meets foreign tourists and show them some cultural places. Just to add on your list. ))
Extremely interesting jobs, Julia. Probably not too many job opportunities, but if you manage to get one, it must be very rewarding.
lyricist or songwriter can be included too. or singer or rapper who write their own lyrics.
Oh absolutely!

Could I get a degree in English in America (and learn Norwegian too) and be accepted as a resident in Norway as an English teacher? Is that position well respected/paid well there? I’ve wanted to move to Norway for years now and languages seem to come easier to me than others.
Hi Laura, as far as I know, teachers are not very well paid in Europe. You're probably gonna make more money working as a freelance teacher.
Hello,
I have a question regarding the speech-language pathologist field. I want to take a master in linguistics and after that specialise, but I'm not sure how to move since I've been looking online and most of them are in the USA. Since I'm from the EU (Italy) I'd like to do my master (linguistics) in Germany. By chance, do you know if there are masters online or what path I should follow to become a speech-language therapist? Thank you in advance
Hello, I can't help in this field unfortunately! I'd suggest to reach out to speech-language therapists in your language to get more info.
Thanks so much for this! I will share it with my peers. I've been having a rough time thinking about the future, I only know I wanna work with people, do you think the UN could be a good option for students with foreign languages degree?
Ich habe Deutsch bis C1 Niveau gelernt und mache mich auf Such nach Sprechpartner/in.
Cool :)
I'm studying Russian right now 😊
Awesome!
I can teach you this language if you want
I am a native speaker and work with teaching languages
Okay, but where do you find these jobs for your career as a freelancer? Is it only on LinkedIn or somewhere else?
Nowadays, I find all new leads through recommendations or LinkedIn, yes. But in the beginning I found them in all sorts of places, gig websites, proz, conferences, twitter, contacting companies directly etc.
I‘m a 4 year experienced Russian interpreter/translator and I can’t find a job
I’m Japanese to English translation how can applying anywhere 😢
Hi I am from India , interested in the Spanish language , I am currently pursuing Spanish A1 course from a local institute, my goal was to be a freelancer , a translator ,need more information of how I could pursue this option.
Nice Shirley! Good luck with that.
Thanks to @shadowbalefrost (IG) for the Portuguese translation! :)
Wow you have a Doppelgänger, watch the channel " la ferpection" .I thought Il was watching his channel, until Il Saw the name of your channel
@@c.d3304 Haha I can kind of see it :D thanks for letting me know, that's funny.
Jobs for language students? Teacher, online/telephone consultant. Of course, there are other options as well, but in order to go for those you need previous, confirmed job experience. Which you want get if you just do your best to get your diploma and then start hoping for the best, while trying to get employed.
Language arts cool
Thank you sir for this video. I am in 10th std currently. And I want to be a multilingual. But I am confused which site should I take ? Arts or science or commerce?
I'd suggest commerce, opens up the most doors :)
@@Freelanceverse thank you sir
I want to know the specific website for signing up for writing jobs in multiple languages?
I am an aspiring would be omni-glot, doing research on different languages with etymology origins & changes (such as latin evolving into spanish/portuguese/french/romanian/including latin influence on english words), psychology of neurolignuistic programming, with accurate knowledge familiarity on different languages around the world.
Hi Dietrich, I have a 2-part series on my channel with all the platforms to sign-up to :)
I want to become an linguistic but I want to travel and learn languages at the same time. Can linguistic do that 😅?
Yes definitely, become a freelance language service provider :)

What I want in my job is to help foreigners so that they feel secure and happy in my city. Can you give me jobs, please?🙁
Hi Leen, thank you for your comment! I'm afraid I can't give you such a job :) what city are you living in? Why don't you reach out to your city council for example or to any international/expat community in your country. I'm sure these jobs exist, but they are generally not the ones you'd find on LinkedIn etc. You need to go the extra mile for jobs like these. Make sure to be creative in the way you're approaching people.
@@Freelanceverse you can't help me If I told you but I wanted to know a few things because l'm still young. Thank you for answering me, I'll do what you gave me. 😊
Great!! Good luck
I’m 19 and I speak only four languages ( English French Italian and Turkish) and now I’m on my fifth one which is Dutch and I’m confused which job can I get with all these languages
Are your language skills certified in any way? In other words, do you have a degree in philology/linguistics? If not, start another MA course in IT, or economics. This, combined with laguages should get you a job.
@@mattreggie4481 Yes I got language certificates for all languages I speak. Sure I will try economics and IT. Thanks
Succes met het leren van Nederlands
You are so sweet))
Thank you 💙
What languages do you speak?
German, Swiss German, English, French, Dutch and now learning Hungarian :)
sir i want to learn french language.?
Go for it! :) French is a very valuable language to know.
Busuu is good. Not too expensive
Yeah, I thought about being a linguist, but that's not a real job. It's more like a title. If you are a linguist, chances are you're gonna work as a teacher, nothing else. I thought about being a dead languages linguist but I guess that's disappointingly unrealistic.
Yes, I understand linguist really as someone who works in a uni or any other research institution working on languages. But you can call yourself a linguist and work in all these professions I mentioned. I assume it's hard to make a living as a dead languages linguist, maybe that's more something for the side as a hobby.
