  • ✝️ “He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name.” Psalm 23 verses 2-3, New Living Translation
This is a favorite, classic hike we've done many times. Our route includes a few miles of boot-paths and even some rugged, off-trail scrambling. It's a tough hike with many gorgeous views. It's even better in the fall when the leaves turn yellow, orange, and red and the bugs are gone (except this year we were unexpectedly swarmed by gnats and tiny flies).
The off-trail portion is not required to see the gorgeous views. The official, established trail provides plenty of stunning views, especially of the Watson Lakes area.

Thanks for posting the trail-less-traveled journey above Upper Watson, as the majority of folks will only traverse to Lower Watson for the 6 mi rt/1100 ft elev. gain in-and-back route. It indeed looked a bit rugged there for a spell, but with rewarding views and I assume more quiet scene. Fall colors in the mountains never fail to disappoint.

We met several backpackers leaving Upper Anderson Lake, but almost no one the rest of the day. Fall is our favorite season for hiking! Thanks for watching.
