  • Hey guys! Welcome back to another video here on the channel. One of my most popular uploads has been the Heather/Maple Pass Loop day hike in Washington State. Bordering the North Cascades National Park, this hike is a true gem and is one of the most beautiful day hikes you can do in the Pacific Northwest. This is a virtual trail guide that should aid in planning a trip here, and should give you the information and knowledge needed to check this hike off your list.
Check out our original video of Maple Pass Loop hike here: • HIKING THE MAPLE PASS ...

Keep making these virtual guide videos, i will subscribe. Your video can be compared as hiking world of Google map with street views mentioning location, time, distance and level. It is invaluable for people who haven't been there. Your girlfriend is beautiful and your cinematography has good taste and is smooth, no wasting frames nor trash talks. Feels like watching a movie. We are going to Washington in the next couple years' vacation. Me and my wife are very impressed by this video while wanting to understand and plan our first best visit to North Cascade.

Fazit: absolut empfehlenswerte Rundwanderung.

Great video as always Danny. I agree for a day hike it’s easily one of the top in the PNW. I went in October last year and it was stunning, but will say without doubt most crowded trail I have ever been to, think Colchuck x5 lol.I Would recommend a weekday to avoid the traffic, America the beautiful pass tag also works instead of the $5 fee.

Thanks Cris, and I appreciate the added info! Yeah as I mentioned we got to the trailhead late, and started early so we didn't see a ton of people at that point.. but when we got back to the trailhead in the afternoon the crowds were insane. Colchuck X5 is a good comparison! Thanks for checking out the video man and I appreciate the continued support!

Oh man, what a great new concept!!! My Mom and I loved this video!!! You are always thinking of new and creative ways to present your content!!! We LOVE this format. Another GRAND SLAM!!! What a great way to repurpose your camera work and create more value for your viewers!!!We would watch EVERY SINGLE trip you have taken in this "Trail Guide" format. Soooo, entertaining!!!
Your camerawork on your videos is always second to none!!! Your narration ROCKS and you NAILED the script!!! Your mapwork (not sure if that is a word, but I will make it one if it is not 😊) is AWESOME!!! Google, those trail maps, and Relive maps provide a great source of valuable information!!!
We also loved the additional info on the side trails and your personal thoughts and tips, based on your experience, are invaluable!!! The pop ups are a great way to add the relevant data points to the narration, especially the pop up of Maple Pass from a distance. That gives such a great perspective!
BTW: I remember commenting on the original video how cool it would be to camp on an island that was in the middle of an Alpine Lake! (5:04 mark). 😊
The music in the background is perfect!!! Perfect balance of listenability and sound level. It is subtle but adds so much to the video! All those details added together create an unbelievable viewing experience!
Great job combining all of that very useful and incredible content into a video less than 10 mins!!! There is an expression I heard in the boxing world, called pound for pound. It is when you compare fighters when all things are equal. Well, you just created a minute for minute comparison. You can compare your trail guide to any other trail guide out there minute for minute and you would be the Mike Tyson of trail guides!!! A knockout each time!!!
You can make an entire playlist of trail guides!!! I would be shocked if they were not insanely popular!!! That was a jam packed 9-minute video!!! You crammed so much useful, valuable, and breathtaking information into such a short video. I am guessing this took a ton of work!!! There was so much detail and you can tell a lot of thought and prep went it to this!!! You added so many additional sources and crushed it with the narration!!! If we had a complaint, it was we wish there were more!!!! 😊
We think you saved the best tip for last, make sure you make memories!!!
Hope you, Tessa, and Lolly are doing well! Can’t wait for your next adventure!!! Any ideas on what the first trek of 2023 will be?
    Be well and stay safe!!!

Hey MonGo!! Man thanks so much for this comment! I'm glad you guys enjoyed the new 'virtual trail guide' idea!! I kind of based it on my "Enchantments Tips" video as it's been the best upload here on the channel so I thought I'd try and create a way to do that with more videos!
I'm glad putting al the mapping in and the different shots made sense! Haha narration has always been my crux. When I'm filming it I feel like Morgan Freeman talking about Marching Penguins.. but when I listen to it back it's not quite there 😂 So I appreciate the comment on the narration.
Glad you enjoyed the pop-ups!! One of the biggest things I've learned in the past year or so is that it's okay to forget to say things or miss placing certain key points in the video.. because that's where the pop-ups come into play. It's a really easy way to piggy back certain topics!
Now that you say it I definitely remember you commenting about the island!!
Glad you enjoyed the subtle music in the background! Finding the right tune to play to videos can be a chore.. You don't want it to sound too sad, or be too loud and upbeat.. it has to be just right so thank you!
Haha I love the pound for pound and minute for minute comparithon! I'll take the Mike Tython label for trail guideth any day 🌲😊
Yeah I may make a few more of these! They're good videos to make this time of year. We've had some gnarly North Idaho weather lately so I've been stuck indoors for the most part. We've had more below 0 weather this year than I can even remember in previous years. Whew, this probably took me 15-20 hours to create.. First, I typed everything out. Then, I narrated it. Then, I put the narration into Adobe Premiere. Then, I added all the video and edits into that! It took some time, but I definitely didn't have to travel or go anywhere to film it! I'll probably make some more for the more popular trails.
I was thinking of making one for Mount Storm King in the Olympic National Park... but I don't know if I'm going to any longer. Apparently, National Parks are now requiring filming permits for commercial filming in the parks.. which falls under any video uploaded to RUclips. I'm not sure of the ramifications of what could happen if I don't have a permit, but I'm not sure I want to even use old footage to create that video. I'm a little worried because it could extend to wilderness areas and other federal land which would obviously effect the channel, but we'll see what happens! I'll email you over some information that I found on that as I feel like you'd be interested in it.
As far as the first trip of 2023 goes.. I'm not quite sure yet! I'm a bit of a pansy when it comes to snow adventures (avalanches) so that's why I tend to take the winter off. I loved the Star Peak Lookout last year however and I'd love to find something similar to that! The problem is trailhead access this time of year.. They basically have to be right off of a main roadway. We have a local one called Maiden Rock that I may knock out with Lolly soon. It would be a lot like Evan's Landing and is nearby to that!
As always, thanks so much for the comment and for all the support you guys show to the channel! I hope 2023 is off to a good start for you and your mom! Cheers!

@@DannyJSchaefer My friend, you are crushing the narration! My Mom said you are so professional in everything you do! BTW: Morgan Freeman wishes he could narrate as well as you do! 😉
Most people just leave text annotations in their videos, but you go the extra mile with the pop-ups. We love the details, but not many videos use a pop-up as a way point. We are glad you enjoy using them. From the viewer perspective, your pop-ups are polished and professional looking.
Hehehehehe, glad you liked the Tyson comparison!!!
Super happy you are considering making more!!! To your point, the virtual trail guides (VTG) would be a great way to produce content during the off season. You can recap the adventures you had earlier in the year.
BTW: I checked the weather in SP the other day, and it was like 3 degrees at 8 AM my time. It looks like it is about 23 there now, so it must be a heatwave coming through! 🤣
There is no doubt it took 15-20 hours to create the video. I was thinking it would take longer. You packed a ton of info and outside content sources into that video. It was impressive to jam all of that in under 10 mins.
I was excited to hear about Mount Storm King in the Olympic National Park project, but oh man, total gut punch to hear about the National Parks requiring filming permits!!! Leave it to the Federal Government to over complicate something simple. I just watched the video you sent me. I guess I can understand some of the points, but WOW, did they overreach IMO. I like Jeven’s suggestions on balancing some of the legitimate concerns vs. our rights and freedom. Not to mention how unclear their wording is in the new reg. Reminds me of how they deal with gun laws. Drives me nuts! But I will save that rant for another time. I did not see/hear the cost of the permit, but Jeven mentioned it would take 90 days to get one. Yikes, typical government bureaucracy. Not to mention YT's policy on what they want and do not want to enforce. If they start handing out strikes, it could get ugly in a hurry.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention and sending me the video. I am going to follow this and see what I can do on my end.
Bro, you are no pansy!!! Unfortunately, I know some of them and that AIN'T you! Avalanches are a big concern. I just heard about one in Leavenworth WA a couple of weeks ago. I think there was a party of 6 and 3 of them lost their lives. Very sad indeed. Avalanches are no joke!!!
We loved Star Peak Lookout. My Mom just commented that you found the package of Swiss cheese there and remembered you took it home to throw it away!!!
Completely get it re: access to the trailhead, especially with the weather you guys had this season!!!
OMG, I know exactly where Maiden Rock is. I have been stalking that area on Google maps for a while. 🙃. I looked at two properties in that area!!! I literally spent HOURS viewing that area on Google, Bing, Apple, etc. maps and viewing all the images associated with that trail!!! What a gorgeous area!!! We hope you find the time to make it out there this season!!!
You are very welcome! And we thank you for all your efforts and all the enjoyment you bring us. Yes, 2023 is off to a good start! We hope the same is true for you guys!!!

Does anyone know if there is an option to backcountry camp anywhere along the Maple Pass Loop? Not looking for a formal campground, but a flat spot to come off the trail somewhere. Many areas around the country require a permit. However, I can't find anything online that speaks to backcountry permits around Maple Pass (or many other areas in the NCascades other than the Enchantments). Any feedback / comments are appreciated. Off the top of my head I believe you can camp, as I've seen videos of some people who camp just outside of the Maple Pass Loop towards Black Peak. Maybe search for Black Peak and you can gain some inspiration there? Otherwise, I highly recommend calling the ranger station that correlates with this area. They will give you all the information you should need. Thanks again for watching and for following along on the channel!
