@@KellyLira You're very welcome. I noted you said that in your time in Washington you have yet to see a bear. To maximize your chances (if you actually want to) hike places rich in ripening alpine blueberries in the autumn. Most of my bear sightings over the years were while collecting blueberries amid the beautiful high fall colors. Also, people tend to be foolishly cavalier about Mountain Goats, which can be very unpredictable and dangerous. Washington hikers have been seriously injured and even killed by them. It's worth a warning, even though most will ignore it.

Asa 75y.o. native I can say EXCELLENT presentation. Even if I sno-bvird in Philippines, or recently Florida, I vivdly recall the sights and smells of forests, mountains, and sea. I grew up next to Carkeek Park on 7 acres. the things I learned by osmosis as a kid, saved me and my squad in Vietnam several times. Back then the city limits was 85th street.
I was a "Free Range" kid. Feel sorry to the kids this era. Really I do.
Get Up! Get Out! & GO!!! Before it's gone. I've seen it.

I will be in Washington in July, so I am preparing for the many things to do in the National Parks and outside of them. This video gives me options of some extra hikes to put on my list.

The neighborhood I grew up in was a 20 minute walk from St. Edwards. Beautiful park, would absolutely recommend. If you go during the summer, weekend, or whenever school students are on break, you can park at Arrowhead Elementary which is right next to the park with direct access to the park's aptly named Arrowhead Trail. No discover pass needed!
I only had time for a day hike last year and maple pass loop did not disappoint! I’d love to try backpacking next time
i thought i would be using the slider a lot through this 25mins' video but i let it play normal to the very end. what a video clip jampacked with beautful experiences, gorgeous sceneries, practical guidelines, and comprehensive sharings. First time commenting on your channel but i really like experiencing Seattle through your channel and listening to your happy, poised and clear narrations.

Completely agree, what a wonderful video! Our favorite hikes when we visited for a week in a camper van were Maple Pass in the North Cascades, Skyline in Rainier, and Mt. Storm King in Olympic. Thank you for this video. I am planning a solo trip to Washington next year. I have never backpacked so probably won't do that this trip (will wait till I am ready and try it closer to home first). I of course went back and watched your videos. This has helped me and given me lots to research. :) Looking forward to more of your adventures to inspire me.
This is a great list! Park Butte is hands down my favorite trail - it's a bit of a drive from Seattle but definitely worth it.
We will be hiking in Mt. Rainier and North Cascades this mid sept. Thanks for the info.

I don't often watch videos of local places... recognize several favorites here. Great video.
I've seen bears on various hikes, but only at distances. Like, I've seen them across on the next ridge over. I don't worry too much about bears as they will typically stay away from humans. Mountain lions are more rarely seen, but you're more likely to be in trouble if you see one.
Check out talapus and ollalie, it has narnia vibes, also recommend Taylor Mountain on a clear day!
Lake of the angels in Olympic Peninsula ! Hike is pretty challenging but once you see the lake and the view.. all the soreness will disappear !
Highly recommend lake serene hike its alot of elevation gain if you're not in good shape it's a bit rough

Mailbox peek was brutal.. if you are going to do that hike go early, because they lock the gates and we got locked in had to call the park ranger to get us out. But was a really fun hike and hard took about 12 hrs total.

thanks so much! :) a few tips:
1. scripting - it helps me explain complete thoughts. if i didn't script, i would have manyyyy run-on sentences haha
2. practice - doing this over and over for videos has helped a lot. and then watching the recording helps a lot too, so i see how i can improve
3. know your audience
4. add background info for any new viewers or people not familiar with you/the topic

This really should be called "25 hikes in the Seattle area..." Living in southern Washington, there are some amazing trails here as well.
I'm visiting in February & plan on being all over from Blaine, Seattle, down & over to Olympia & up to Neah Bay. Any hikes or must see spots along that route?

There’s a coastal trail I’ve been searching for that I haven’t been able to find!!😭 it’s a trail along a ridge with the ocean to the left of it!! Do you happen to know what it’s called?
when is the ice cave hike/trail easily accessible? will the ice cave still be there/not melted in mid July?
i've only been towards the end of june. the trail was accessible and the ice cave was still there when i went!

Do you have any tips for hiking with your dog?
1. Use a hands free waist leash. You can find those on Amazon!
2. Bring a container to pack your dog’s used poop bags, so you can carry it during the hike and then throw it away once you’re finished. We like using the Blue Diamond almond containers
3. Bring a collapsable dog bowl for your dog’s water
4. When on the hike, find the areas where it’s easy for you to pull over with your dog while you wait for others to pass

so im out of shape and im visiting a friend and she wants to do the maple pass loop hike. everyone is saying that its a very hard hike and im second guessing myself. im overweight and dont really work out often
I would say air on the side of caution. One thing I know from living here for almost 5 years but not being from a place with hikes like this....WA folks tend to overestimate or assume your capabilities are more than what the are. What I mean is they grew up here and hiking was a part of their world. Even the ones who move here move here for the outdoors. Most folks baseline capabilities out here are gonna be different than your base line capabilities. Especially if you are from a flat part of the country.
Even with me I work out and lift weights but I still struggle to keep up with my friends on these hikes because no matter how hard I go in a work out my body still has never done such strenuous hiking. I'm just now starting to get into committed hiking and thought ive done a good bit this summer, I still need lots of conditioning to keep up with the folks around here.
I looked up and researched Mt Pilchuck for instance. Girl in that video was very nonchalantly like "its a doable hike for anyone"
No. Someone like you. And even someone like me. And I'm not over weight. Will struggle. I did it yesterday and it was tough! I even brought more gear like walking sticks and those def saved me from scrambling through tons and tons of rocks and losing balance at some points. And just the endurance you need in general is something these kinds of ppl totally never talk about. They make it seem like its nothing like that lady in the video. Or one man who filmed himself doing Pilchuck and it only took him and 1.30 to summit where as it took me 3!!! Because it's literally like being on a stairmaster for hours except you are hot losing water losing balance tryna find your way in a sea of rocks etc.
I say all that to say a Washingtonians gauge meter is gonna be off when it comes to hikes. They are all gauging from what they know and are used to and that is very different from where a lot of of ppl come from. Don't get hurt or worse trying to keep up with the hiking Jones' out here. Know your limit and don't be ashamed of telling her no. She shouldn't be pressuring you so much.
But *if* you do go. It is all very very rewarding. I am mostly just suggesting don't put views over safety. Know your limits. Ppl have died from falls and other things. But if you do go; Bring tons of water. Extra snacks. Please have good boots with ankle support. Walking sticks if you desire. Headlight. First aid kit. Pocket knife. And extra layers!!! Especially this time of year. That about covers the basics. Happy hiking!

*not a dog owner* why couldn't your dog just poop off the trail and just leave it? I understand scooping it up if they go on the trail and cleaning it up, but is it against the hiking rules or something to have someone's dog poop off the trail and just leave it?
Pet waste can cause the ecosystem to become unbalanced, since the pet’s diet is different from the wildlife in that ecosystem
