Follow Up. The entire recoil sled broke not to long after. The gun thus hit a catastrophic failure before 2000 rounds. I no longer can recommend this firearm at all. I also got the part about the suppressor right: it was my fault. I had a crush washer on the MD which likely messed with the orientation just enough to cause grouping issues.

Thanks for the review! Like most of PSA's non-AR offerings, I will wait for a Gen 2. It sort of makes sense as a short foldy piston-driven platform for strictly suppressed 300blk, but it doesn't really offer much as a 556/223. Maybe they'll do a larger frame for 308-sized calibers at some point (SCAR-H at home video when???).
@Ass Clapper I said 300blk almost went extinct. 5.56 was still available overall. Why make a gun in a caliber that hardly anybody could get their hands on?
@@trollmastermike52845 it took awhile for stores near me to get back in stock, but it’s recovered. Can still order ammo online as prices have gone down some. 300blk was gone almost everywhere, including online. If you did find some, it was as expensive as .50 cal almost lol
I can't even count the amount of times i've dropped a ham sandwidge in my AKs. It just happens. If you have an AK be ready to clear Various sandwidges with a full mag dump. Watch out for the tuna/chicken salad variety, because they can really gum up your trigger group. Never had any problems with my ARs though. Great review!
Good details in the review. I would call this design a "near miss" on the features I had hoped for. Your accuracy reports are honest & I appreciate that. VERY WELL KNOWN reviewers are ALWAYS saying their gun shoots 1 MOA (never shows a target/group) and I just roll my eyes. I do get 1MOA from some of my rifles with reloads, but some are just 3MOA with good ammo.
Some will put a 3-9 or even more powerful scope on their AR then shoot a group with it, yet if you're running a red dot you won't be nearly as precise. The GUN can possibly shoot 1MOA but the shooter may not be able to in all conditions.
it's more of the shooter. Short guns=less weight and are more of a challenge to shoot accurately because of this. With quality ammo and a good barrel 1 moa is achievable repeatedly. I have quality ss109 that consistently produces 1 moa groups when I do my part.
"Wacky inflatable tube- JAKL" Well said! I can really appreciate this. Also, really appreciate that this is one of the only REVIEWS on the JAKL yet. Lots of dummies are giving PREVIEWS with 100 rds through it saying it's the best thing ever. I'm stoked you actually shot it! Thanks!
Gen 1 = public beta test and i'm a proud tester of some of the very first public Dagger and AKV releases. Both were repaired under warranty for small issues. I let others go first now.
Gotta hand it to PSA. Some of their stuff might not be the very best in quality, but at least they're TRYING to make unique things at a decent price point. They're like the other Kel Tec.
Meh. Kel Tec has really cool and creative designs, but absolute horse-shit build quality on virtually everything they produce. I've thought for years that Kel Tec should close their factories but keep *designing* new firearms and license them to serious gun manufacturers, so that we could see some of their cool, quirky, innovative designs come to market embodied in a more robust and competently manufactured form. (Like, say, Ruger, who already copied their P3AT with the LCP and made it into an actual usable gun in the process.) PSA on the other hand has had issues with build quality and QC on some products, but they are at least a 'real' gun manufacturer. They don't produce things as if they are airsoft guns, with two hollow plastic injection molded 'halves' of receivers/stocks held together by screws like a cheap toy, cutting corners and cutting costs at every conceivable angle as if the durability (and by extension reliability) of their guns doesn't mean anything because they're all conceived as range toys. Much of what they've produced over the past 10 years has been hit-or-miss, but they often do get things right, and when they *do* they're hitting value home-runs. Their Gen 3 AK's for instance are an excellent choice offering build quality rivaling much more expensive guns, but at a budget price. (After working out many kinks across gens 1 & 2.) Their classic M4/M16- style AR's incorporating their nitride-treated barrels or better yet the cold hammer forged barrels they source from FN are also very solid and very inexpensive for what you get. I'd never trust them to properly install a low-pro gas block under a FF handguard; at least when I bought mine years back they didn't even dimple the barrels for the set screws or apply thread-locker - however a mil spec fixed front sight & gas block is fairly idiot-proof, and I've never had any issue at all with rifles from them using this "classic" military style configuration. I recently picked up PSA's Glock clone, the Dagger, as well, and I've gotta say I'm blown away at the build quality and out-of-the-box reliability considering the low price they're kicking these things out the door at. Feels better in the hand than my Glocks and has eaten hundreds so far of rounds of various FMJ ammo including cheap steel-cased stuff without a hiccup, and zero cleaning or lubrication. They've stumbled quite a bit when trying to produce new firearms of their own original design, and seem to do much better with "public domain" designs where all the engineering work has already been done for them, but they at least make things out of steel and high-grade solid polymers, with modern industry-leading coatings and treatments and common-sense manufacturing standards, and thus actually have a chance - have the *fundamental capability* - to make a durable, reliable firearm, if they happen to come up with an interesting original design, unlike Kel Tec.
@@DoritoWorldOrder I hope they end up better than keltec. Your right. They don't have consistent quality. The problem with your idea is if they just design and don't manufacture at all then it'll probably be worse because they won't have any direct expirience holding the weapon they designed right next door. I just wish these terrible pistol braces would be gone and they sell their 9mm AK with triangle stocks normally with no tax stamps. Also I hope they focus on quality control and value. People want a fun that they know when they pass it down to their childrens children it will shoot when the bad guy breaks in every time. I hope keltec improves. They're definitely peculiar in their engineering. It's just, that's like juggling fire. You have to nail it or you get burned. Lot of people don't buy them because they sit on shelf and you get nervous thinking about having a jam in a bad situation where you don't want one with your plastic complex advanced gun. I like the sub2000 and I like how they made an integral suppressor. What I don't like is the government extortion via tax stamp. Also I like pistol caliber carbines to not have negative IQ blind retardation regualtions stopping from the weapon from being assembled I'm the way the owner there of wants without having to get raped financially with paperwork and fees. It's just dumb because no one wants to sink a fortune into a weapon system which has been neutered by the feds while the Taliban rolls around Afghanistan with the military our country just handed to them
@@BigfootUnibrowMan Ruger literally copied the Kel Tec P3AT pistol in designing their own LCP, which quickly became the best selling concealed carry gun of time... Other manufacturers wouldn't have to "trust" Kel Tec's designs down to the minute details of materials choices, machining methods, surface treatments, etc; they could just take the overall idea and license its patentable design concepts to incorporate into their own improved design for a gun based on the same functionality and features, but with better engineering - exactly like Ruger did with the LCP, only doing it all above-board and actually licensing the patents. Imagine a Sub-2000 with an aluminum receiver, and with it's polymer components such as the stock and handguard made with a proper firearms-grade glass-filled polymer molded in a solid single piece (instead of toy-gun zytel clamshell injection moldings held together by screws) - and re-engineered all-around for higher durability and reliability, with higher quality small parts, high-grade surface treatments, and tested far more rigorously to confirm high performance standards before mass-production. Would you pay a few hundred bucks more for a version like that, designed and manufactured to standards that would make it possible to trust your life to it in a duty or self defense application, instead of just a cheap range toy with its innovative folding design reduced to nothing more than a fun little range-toy gimmick because of its poor build quality and unacceptable reliability? I certainly would. Apply the same reasoning to any other gun they make based on an innovative design concept... Like the RDB or the P50 or the PMR30. Imagine the RDB family of rifles, but engineered and manufactured to a military service grade of quality and reliability, and with improvements like a forward push-button mag release (as seen on the X95 for example) that would be easy to do in the absence of Kel Tec's compulsive cost-cutting tendencies. Imagine a PMR30 that was actually reliable with a wide variety of ammo, ditching the cheap "European" heel-clasp mag release and replacing it with a proper push-button mag release and drop-free mags, realizing the promise of those 30rd flush-fitting mags with a gun that would actually be viable for self-defense in the hands of a frail or recoil-averse shooter who can't handle center-fire calibers well. The difference between the unique features offered by all these guns being gimmicks or actually offering a meaningful innovation, comes down to build quality and reliability - whether or not you could actually trust your life to one as a tool in a life-or-death scenario. And across the board with regard to all of these firearms, it wouldn't cost more than $100-200 in additional manufacturing costs passed on to the end user in order to improve the engineering and build quality to bring these designs up to a "duty grade" standard. Kellgren is in many ways a genius designer, but he runs his company and engineers/produces his firearms like a miserly Chinese industrialist kicking out infomercial products built at the minimum cost to thrill consumers into an impulse buy, but not built to last. If you could bottle his creativity and let someone else who is serious about manufacturing quality firearms actually apply the ideas to what they make, we'd all get a plethora of cool new guns that were actually worth owning for real-world use. Going back to the LCP example, Ruger was able to more or less copy their P3AT design while also transforming it from a chinsy, ammo-picky, dud-lottery type of gun with a 300-500rd break-in period that people adopted begrudgingly because it was the only choice up until that point for a deep concealment pocket pistol that small, into a beautifully and consistently manufactured mass-produced pistol that was dead-to-rights reliable right out of the box and devoured the P3AT's market share of the pocket pistol segment, all while barely increasing the retail price over its spiritual predecessor. It would not be very hard to reproduce that same magic on any number of Kel Tec's gun concepts.
I got a buddy that has a PSA AK clone so far he put 4,000 rounds through it and the only hiccup he has had he said was cheap ammo you run the good stuff through it she runs like a champion and I own a Kel-Tec SUB-2000 that thing runs like a champion I have never had an issue with it perfect backpack gun you could put 50 round drum on it with a laser a flashlight. And a forearm grip... And she will fold up and fit in your backpack perfectly I mean for 500 bucks can't go wrong
I was excited about this, but I am tired of heavy guns. At least it was reliable, but that hardware should be flash nitrided. Also, I would be incredibly surprised if both the handguard and rail are not extruded, and then machined. This is the best method of production for such parts, and is common. Thank you as always!
@@djcoopes7569 Mmm, I meant salt bath, but gas nitride would work as well, just not the standard for gun parts, and isn't the deep black of SBN. Practically all steel gun parts should be nitrided, and will be in the future. More and more are being nitrided, and even if you want a superior treatment applied, it should be over nitride if possible.
@@BenfromFlux nitride is a fantastic treatment. unfortunately in my part of the world it isn't very common, but we'll get there. i do have a (possibly novice) question though, is there an additive involved in giving the nitriding a black finish? I've tried to look it up but gotten no concrete answers. if not, then how does nitriding achieve the black finish?
@@djcoopes7569 I used to know how they attain the black, but I can’t remember. I researched the hell out of it before starting Flux, but that was many years ago. If I recall, it’s oxidation of some sort. What part of the world? Black nitride is still pretty uncommon in general, but is growing. Expensive to do a few parts, pretty cost effective when doing thousands.
@@BenfromFlux Cerakote over Nitride is where its at. I'm in Australia. I'd love to start up a gas nitriding facility, as there isn't much competition in the field and I know from personal experience in the industry that there would definitely be a market for it as a specialized service. Gas seems safer to me instead of molten cyanide salt bath, and workplace safety laws over here are really restrictive. what do you mean by "before starting flux"?
I really look forward to your reviews because you’re an every day man like myself. Now I have an 11.5 from PSA that is surprisingly one of my best rifles I don’t know how this is possible but the thing is undefeatable. Thanks for the review I would like to see a a KV
PSA is a national treasure that is often underappreciated and too often dismissed as "junk" by those who rely on internet commando personalities to guide their purchasing habits. I've seen their premium line stand toe to toe with manufacturers that cost 2-3 times as much, and in some cases, outperform them.
I love when you put the flannel on with the bags. With the gun, the bag, and the flannel, it reminds me of ghost recon wildlands. Hold a special place in my heart lol.
Thank you for a more in-depth review, those seem hard to come by. For $1100 base price, the rusting screws and wobbling charging handle are unacceptable. Yeah, it's PSA, but if they're going to charge mid-tier/mid-high in terms of price then they should deliver a more quality product. With that being said, I hope that future generations of this platform get the needed upgrades to make it a real contender against the standard AR platform. With the .300blk version coming out some time, it'll be interesting to see how that fares against this.
@@user-hz4zy2df8z The BRN-180 has never been in the $600 range. The lowest it has ever been is $750 for the 18.5" upper. Every other model is $900-$1K. @@oldscratch3535 The thing everyone forgets is that the BRN-180 upper is not an AR15 upper. you dont have economy of scale. frankly i think the price is very reasonable, and id rather pay for a more reliable (and one that makes more sense to me personally) design for my rifle.
I'm a BRN-180 guy, I have the 11" 5.56 and waiting for that sweet black friday deal on the .300blk. Usage on any AR lower and while it has a reciprocating charging handle, its at the gas port like an AK and not in the handguard.

Thanks for the review! I recently got a Jakl and have only put about 200 rounds down range but so far it has ran flawless both supressed and unsupressed and i have not noticed a loss of accuracy when running supressed. I have shot it about 50/50 supressed vs unsupressed. I have an extremely low round count so far so maybe issues will come up down the road but so far mine has been great! Thanks again for your review!
Thanks for the best in depth review so far. I am a subscriber now. I have a Jakl kit build with 800 rounds on it .It eats everything from 77grn and 55 grn hand loads to 62 grn green tip and the cheapest Wolf 223 steel case. The adjustable gas makes shooting everything very reliable and soft shooting for me with and without a suppressor I have used a Dead Air Nomad and a YHM Resonator point of impact shift is low right with both cans but still 3 moa unadjusted with hand loads. I usually paint my rifles with Dura Coat Bad Ass in some flat tactical color and will do that here based on your description of the assembly screws on the upper being prone to rust. No issues with the charging assembly yet but I will be keeping a close watch on it for breaking I'm using a Jmac st 6 folding brace and have figured out a way to back weight it inside an SBA 4 pistol brace so the front end feels lighter and the gun swings a lot better coming up on target. Overall it adds weight but it really improves the feel and handling . I hand load subsonic rifle ammunition now and cant wait for the 300 Blk. This thing will sound like a pellet rifle with subs and a Nomad or Trash Panda
I am really looking forward to the new Ruger small frame .308 copy of the POF Rogue/Revolution concept. Sub 7lbs .308 rifle that doesn't kill my budget.
I built a 6.8lb full size 18" AR10 using a faxon pencil barrel. You don't need a smaller frame for less weight. The problem was the recoil kept breaking optics so i just ran MBUS on it.
@@BrassFacts I hope you do. I'm skeptical about how long the extractors will last in the SFAR. And it's hard to tell who is a shill or not. But you don't set off my shill alarms at all. So we would get an honest review of it.
@@BuckFoeJiden No. A lot of the parts in the lowers are AR compatible, but everything in the upper is usually proprietary. I have a BRN-180s. The only thing in the upper that is AR compatible is the firing pin, firing pin retainer (cotter pin), extractor, and ejector. If you think parts availability will be a problem in the future then just buy extra components when you buy the rifle. You should only ever really need to buy a recoil spring, bolt, and cam pin. Replacing the barrel on the BRN-180 is not something you can easily do at home, but I highly doubt most people will ever shoot it enough to wear the barrel out.
After doing some research with this weapon, I see alot of potential as a very reliable long stoke gas piston AR platform weapon. Make it a bit lighter, make it actually fit Standard lowers, make all the screws etc properly nitrided, fix that charging handle problems, and then make it a slightly longer barrel and handguard. Idk, lots to take away here. Imo the gun has the potential to be alot better than it is. Knowing PSA, they will likely make it better in the Gen II.
Finally, a review that pushes a gun to the limits! I think for $1k and a lifetime warranty, the gun is totally worth it. They even upgraded that part of yours that broke. I definitely agree it is not on the same level as a Scar or ACR for that matter though. I'd honestly pay up to $1500 for the Jakl if better quality controls were in effect. However, I think the price is great for what it is.
Really excited for the 300 blackout one. The shorter barrel and hand guard on that gun should fix some of the weight problems. Hopefully the charging handle is tightened up. If it is secure and strong, I wouldn’t mind it being reciprocating 🤷♂️ never had a problem with the reciprocating SCAR charger myself. For whatever reason I am just drawn to piston guns like a moth to flame. Just something about them.
You called it on gen 1 shitting the bed. For anyone that doesnt know at this point, if you buy an old one or have an old one, you should contact PSA and get an upgraded recoil sled. They will send it to you for free. This is pretty much mandatory. A lot of the other complaints have been addressed at this point, including being able to buy one without a brace, and .300blk versions. PSA's motto really seems to be "We'll always get it right the second time"
i prefer PSA to the "too good for civilians" brands that make their non-military versions shittier for no reason but to spite civilians. looking at you HK, the MR series fucking blows
The rifle weighs a half pound more than a standard M4, so doesn’t matter how many accessories you add on to make it sound more heavy it’s still only a half pound more than the other weapon with the same accessories. It’s a little more front heavy for the same reason that the Daniel defense mk18 is more front heavy. It has a rail that can stand up to abuse.

Just a thought … it’s an aim sports exclusive go there if you want one …
@Ass Clapper honestly I've never heard anything that bad about BCM other than them being over gassed. Customer service is amazing, I had someone porch pirate one and they sent me another no questions asked. I'm actually very curious why you'd dislike them
@Ass Clapper oh wow I'm shocked I've had an awesome CS experience with them. Yeah they're basic, but all ar's are nowadays. I prefer them for their QC but I'm not walking around showing it off at the range lol
@Ass Clapper I've seen that video on their 11.5 which I have. They said it was over gassed, which is true. But it isn't that bad and certainly not enough to not consider owning one
Good call. All important things to know before purchasing. Also agree that a 300BLK or 8.6BLK (daydreaming) would’ve been better calibers. I was on the fence, so this confirmed my sit, siiittt, sssiiiitttt and wait notions.
I went with a Foxtrot Mike FM15 G2 11.5in .223/5.56 Complete Upper Receiver from AIM and just used a standard PSA lower, for about half the cost and love it! I got tired of waiting on PSA to come out with the JAKL. I'm glad to see these companies going bufferless.
Great review! Looking forward to your Somogear review. I have a couple from them on .22 plinkers. I over adjusted windage and broke one and they replaced it for free no hassles. I really hope they can make the jump from airsoft grade to a respectable alternative the same way holosun did with red dots.
By what you brass facts railed on it made alot of good points till the barrel is fixed and the charging handle & brace are upgraded Their AKs are looking like a favorable option 😆 keep up the great contents. People who say work out more less heavy gun means more ammo.
Anytime you can use the word hypotenuse in a review, I’m straight smashing that like button. I see a lot of your likes and dislikes on this system fit mine. Have about 700 rounds already on a SBR lower with a nice stock. Will be going for a 2k round update once I get the suppressor out of jail. Great stuff as usual brother.
Good review, defo went over my concerns. I think most people were looking forward to the 300BO version of the upper going on any lower, probably have to want awhile till that comes it seems. They need to revise quite a bit, especially the weight. Good to know the brace sucks😅, at least it looks cool.
As a brief former owner of one of these, I can honestly say that every negative you mentioned was dead on. While they look great on paper, it was incredibly disappointing once put to use. I unloaded mine for all the reason you mentioned (as well as a few others) at a slight loss and haven’t missed it.
I like the SB triangle folder. I use it with my m85 zpap. But of course with an AR style where the stock/brace is generally ran higher on the shoulder its not a recommendation. But on an AK style when running a higher optic it's just fine at least for me. I do dislike the lack of sling mounting options on the triangle folder... but it keeps the AK look and attaches directly to picatinny so I accept its flaws.
I’m probably in the minority, but I’m wanting one of these for the 13.7 and 16 inch rifle models. Good review, thanks for being thorough. The Sons of Nutnfancy deliver.
The charging handle and sled have both been redesigned already. I remember another really popular firearm having some issues you may know which one I’m talking about the sig MCX? That’s just a name one I can name 10 more very high and very expensive firearms that I had to make changes to their original designs.
In short as I understand, this should be an upper conversion for standard AR15, making it into Scar. Overall a cool version one that should be worked on.
@@BrassFacts I'm in the same boat. A friend has one and says that running 30 cal cans on it made it inoperable for some reason. With the trouble you were having, I wondered about some kind of correlation to the gas system.
@@MagicPrepper I had a 10” gen2 in 300black for about 800rounds before selling it for an MCX I never suppressed the BRN but the gun would only cycle supersonics on the more open gas block setting and would not cycle supers on the other setting. From that analysis it would not cycle subs at all, regardless of suppressed or unsuppressed. Not sure if they made(are making?) gas system changes for gen3
I thought Keltecs used too many screws, holy cow. Thanks for the review. This did intrigue me but the associated fees from buying anything online FFL dependent makes me think twice. Too bad it won’t work as a stand alone upper system. Great vid as always.
What associated fee(s) plural? If you live in a free state you literally just pay the $25-35 FFL transfer and be done. Who still actually overpays for guns anymore?
Would love to see an updated video now that the rifle versions have been out for a bit. Curious to see if some of these issues have been fixed. I think the rifle version has more adjustment in the gas system, and I think they fixed the charging handle sled.
I believe they have, I probably won't do a follow up of the exact model. But they're making so many JAKL derivatives im sure I'll be in contact with this rifle soon enough
I bought a JAKL and, unpopular opinion, I’d take the JAKL before any standard AR-15. I hate rear charging handles and hate not being able to fold the stock/brace for portability on a standard AR. I would honestly take the added weight and bulkiness of the JAKL all day every day just to get rid of those gripes. I would agree the JAKL is a very specific purchase I suppose, and it certainly could have been made lighter, but with mine I intend to SBR it and throw on an ACR stock. I also have full confidence that PSA will have me covered should there be any issues with the JAKL. They’ll make it right. I also support their mission. So for those reasons this was a good purchase for me.
😂 ntch who can't adapt to modern shooting stance. Trust me pal I was all over side charging and then I fixed my shooting stance and gas to face gone, I can charge the handle even on a fully collapsed stock and lastly optic to eye.
@@boygonewhoopdataZZ There is no shooting stance, other than maybe hip fire, that is going to remedy gas in your face. When all of that shit comes back through the charging handle on an AR-15, even if it doesn't get into your eye, you're still breathing it in which is pretty fucking terrible for you. You're breathing vaporized heavy metals and carcinogens. If you shoot a lot suppressed it can really mess you up in the long run. Side chargers and piston systems do remedy this a little bit. Shooting a suppressed AR-15 and a suppressed BRN-180 is a night and day difference when it comes to gas exposure.
Dead Air has incredible warranty with their cans, I blew a Sandman S down range once. Warranty is lifetime and even if the can is totaled (mine wasn't thankfully), they will cover the $200 for the resubmission. The experience was pleasant enough I bought a Mask HD as a beater .22 can.
It seems that a major shortcoming of this gun can be addressed by a polymer handguard, especially since the top rail is monolithic anyway. If PSA doesn't make enough JAKLs to justify the mold, then perhaps additive manufacturing could be the solution. Pistol grips like those from Driven Arms or MK Machining are virtually indistinguishable from non-printed polymer grips
I was excited when they first announced it, aesthetically the original design looked really sick, and the official release just looks like a standard AR rail.
Thank you, was getting ready to throw down on a Jakl and your input was very helpful. I have a SIG Rattler that fits the PDW niche very nicely, that being said, I am also a liker of the AK’s. That being said, I’ll hold off just a tad longer and give PSA a generation to sort this one out.
Appreciate the depth and honesty. The upcoming .300blk variant should shave a couple inches of rail and barrel off the front, helping the weight and balance. Hopefully the charging handle sled gets an update as well. Otherwise, seems like a promising bump in the night gun.
I just ordered the rifle length one with the ACR style stock and longer rail, cant wait to test it out. Since your review I watched a video that PSA had fixed the charging handle issue so hopefully that's fixed.
Watching this I find myself comparing it to my BRN-180(seems like some other ppl in comments are as well). They seem pretty similar other than the fact that this is long stroke. I think I’d still take the BRN mostly just due to the fact that it works seamlessly with all the mil spec lowers that I’ve tried it on. Great review and some food for thought on a product that I’ve had my eye on for a good while now.
Most of the PSA products Ive had Ive had to send back for warranty work. Not a huge fan of their QC. And honestly the Jakl looked good until I realized it was just a nitrided barrel.
"I was only able to do 1300 rounds" Meanwhile other GunTubers "So I put 100 rounds through it and I'm fairly certain this is the best gun I've ever held, it's 100% gtg"
When the uppers first went on sale on the website and I saw it requires a proprietary by catch, that became a deal breaker for me as a lefty. Not gonna be able to place it on an Ambi lower at that point because there won't be any clearance on the right side. Also, not sure why people get so hung up on the . 300 BLK model not being out yet. The 5.56 model is going to have more market appeal than the 300 BLK model, and I'm pretty sure they were partially waiting until sister company AAC was ready to start cranking out 300 BLK ammo, which they've just started last week. Oh yeah, the 5.56 and 300 BLK models were both announced at the same time, so nothing replaced anything.
Funny you mention the brace. They sell the AK-V with those braces. I think the SB3 version is a much better choice. Doesn't look as cool, but functionally better. Please give Nova a pat on the head for me! Thanks for the share!!
Talking on the weight issue: it's weight with kit added on is around 10+ pounds; it's about the same weight as a Mk.12 rifle, and not too far off from the weight of an M249. The latter two are more manageable because the weight is spread out. This thing? The weight is just in your hands. It will tire you out.
@@oldscratch3535 The law makes no mention of the exact angle. What the law says is that pistols have to be designed to be fired with one hand. The interpretation therefore is that design features only aiding two handed firing could be construed as redesigning the firearm to be something other than a pistol.
I like the concept and I'd love to see a Gen 2 fix the things you mention but... the 10.5" barrel is just a huge miss for me in any form. Maybe in 300BO but 5.56 I'd want 11.5 at minimum (12.5 or 13.7 would be ideal if you want to build it as a pistol) and I'd love to see a 12.5" 6.5 Grendel version plus some actual rifle length barrels as well. In current form its a pass for me.
Damn i was hoping this would be better. Didn't realize it required so many proprietary parts. Think I'll stick with my brn180. BTW the midwest industries folder with a tailhook is the way to go.

300blk went extinct during the pandemic. I’m pretty sure making this 5.56 had to do with availability of ammo, and having a 5.56 makes more sense.

I hate the gaslighting the internet has done to itself that firearms are naturally 1moa guns with FMJ.
@@BrassFacts they take a single 3 shot group out of 5, and if it's close enough to moa they'll say it's mow all day
@@newerest1 9 shot is true test.
One of the better looking guns aesthetically with your setup that I have seen in a long while, and that is what's important.
"Wacky inflatable tube- JAKL" Well said! I can really appreciate this.

The Sig Sauer business model.
(Like, say, Ruger, who already copied their P3AT with the LCP and made it into an actual usable gun in the process.)
PSA on the other hand has had issues with build quality and QC on some products, but they are at least a 'real' gun manufacturer.
(After working out many kinks across gens 1 & 2.)
Their classic M4/M16- style AR's incorporating their nitride-treated barrels or better yet the cold hammer forged barrels they source from FN are also very solid and very inexpensive for what you get.
It's just dumb because no one wants to sink a fortune into a weapon system which has been neutered by the feds while the Taliban rolls around Afghanistan with the military our country just handed to them
@@DoritoWorldOrder Nobody would take a chance on Kel Tec's designs. They can make cool and new innovations because they make them so cheaply.
Thank you as always!
do you mean flash nitrided as in Ammonia gas nitrided?
I usually paint my rifles with Dura Coat Bad Ass in some flat tactical color and will do that here based on your description of the assembly screws on the upper being prone to rust. No issues with the charging assembly yet but I will be keeping a close watch on it for breaking I'm using a Jmac st 6 folding brace and have figured out a way to back weight it inside an SBA 4 pistol brace so the front end feels lighter and the gun swings a lot better coming up on target.
Especially since the br180 comes in 7.62 now
After doing some research with this weapon, I see alot of potential as a very reliable long stoke gas piston AR platform weapon.
Also make one in .300 blackout.
Thanks, excellent review. Always great to see Brass Facts bringing the hard hitting analysis.
This is quickly turning into one of my favorite channels. Keep it up!
Really excited for the 300 blackout one. The shorter barrel and hand guard on that gun should fix some of the weight problems. Hopefully the charging handle is tightened up. It's a JAKL! It's a JAKL! It's a JAKL! It's a JAKL! It's a JAKL!
Good review, defo went over my concerns. I think most people were looking forward to the 300BO version of the upper going on any lower, probably have to want awhile till that comes it seems.
They need to revise quite a bit, especially the weight.
Good to know the brace sucks😅, at least it looks cool.
Or just buy the upper and buffer kit- pay about $700. Also it ships with the thinner bolt catch so you can put the upper on any standard AR lower
or probably don't... because (unless they fixed it) this gun self destructs
As a brief former owner of one of these, I can honestly say that every negative you mentioned was dead on. While they look great on paper, it was incredibly disappointing once put to use. I unloaded mine for all the reason you mentioned (as well as a few others) at a slight loss and haven’t missed it.
I have been using mine for 3000 rounds and it stands next to my virtus pretty damn well for less than half the price, so I’m pretty happy.
I'm not sure if I'd like more the dog to welcome me everyday when I get home, or Hop carrying me like and small child.
It’s nice to know that I wouldn’t like this gun. Thanks for taking one for the team.
Love the content fam. NEVER buy gen 1 or 2 psa anything lol
Pretty much truth... But they do have outstanding warranty service in my experience
Aren't their AKs up to Gen 5 right now? Lol
@@Svytorius to be fair... They haven't been making them for 80 years...
I’m probably in the minority, but I’m wanting one of these for the 13.7 and 16 inch rifle models. Good review, thanks for being thorough. The Sons of Nutnfancy deliver.
I was really looking forward to the JAKL, now I find myself not very interested... My ARs work just fine.
The charging handle and sled have both been redesigned already. I remember another really popular firearm having some issues you may know which one I’m talking about the sig MCX? That’s just a name one I can name 10 more very high and very expensive firearms that I had to make changes to their original designs.
As a 300 Blackout, this made a ton of sense. As a 5.56, I really don't get it. Especially at 1100 bucks.
In short as I understand, this should be an upper conversion for standard AR15, making it into Scar. Overall a cool version one that should be worked on.
Solid review. Any comparison to a BRN-180? Would you prefer one over the other?
I don't own a brn180 at this time. One day perhaps.
From what I’ve seen the BRN is much better quality and compatibility. The BRN-180 is made for Brownells by PWS and they make amazing piston ARs
@@BrassFacts I'm in the same boat. A friend has one and says that running 30 cal cans on it made it inoperable for some reason. With the trouble you were having, I wondered about some kind of correlation to the gas system.
@@MagicPrepper I had a 10” gen2 in 300black for about 800rounds before selling it for an MCX
I never suppressed the BRN but the gun would only cycle supersonics on the more open gas block setting and would not cycle supers on the other setting. From that analysis it would not cycle subs at all, regardless of suppressed or unsuppressed. Not sure if they made(are making?) gas system changes for gen3
1911 syndicate gave props to you guys and glad checking out your channel and just subscribed….good stuff!
thanks for dropping by
I thought Keltecs used too many screws, holy cow.
Thanks for the review. This did intrigue me but the associated fees from buying anything online FFL dependent makes me think twice. Too bad it won’t work as a stand alone upper system. Great vid as always.
It comes as a parts kit to build onto your own lower. Check the site!
What associated fee(s) plural? If you live in a free state you literally just pay the $25-35 FFL transfer and be done. Who still actually overpays for guns anymore?
My ffl of choice charges 25 bucks for transfers. And shipping is like 30 bucks most of the time. You probably just need to find a better ffl.
I guarantee that buying the inflated prices that LGS's charge is more expensive than having to use them for online purchase transfers.
I can see where that $20 would be a real deal breaker.
So for those reasons this was a good purchase for me.
yeah, probably unpopular, but it's a valid opinion to have. Nothing objectively horrifically bad except the CH sled.
😂 ntch who can't adapt to modern shooting stance. Trust me pal I was all over side charging and then I fixed my shooting stance and gas to face gone, I can charge the handle even on a fully collapsed stock and lastly optic to eye.
@@boygonewhoopdataZZ I’m a left handed shooter. There is no fixing gas to the face 😂
I still take my PWS MK111 MOD 2. Good review though. I think you do a very good job on your firearms and gear reviews. Keep it up brother.
Me putting 2k rounds on a platform is like a 4 year process.
"Wacky Inflatable-Tube JAKL" 🤣🤣
This was a really good review with a lot of the right details I was curious about.
That being said, no you won't
@@SamSam-ih6nt that being said, “ILL FUCKING WAIT, IM MR. PATIENCE!” 😂😂😂😂😂
Been waiting on this exact video , was searching on it last night , feels good when a new brassfacts video is first on your feed
To me it fits a minimalist truck gun role. Slap a red dot, sling and minimal light then call it good
Watching this I find myself comparing it to my BRN-180(seems like some other ppl in comments are as well). They seem pretty similar other than the fact that this is long stroke. I think I’d still take the BRN mostly just due to the fact that it works seamlessly with all the mil spec lowers that I’ve tried it on. Great review and some food for thought on a product that I’ve had my eye on for a good while now.
PWS actually has QC and makes some very nice stuff. PSA is just that.
That’s awesome, just asked you the other day in one of your PDW videos about the JAKL. Had no idea you got your hands in one.
Most of the PSA products Ive had Ive had to send back for warranty work.
Not a huge fan of their QC. And honestly the Jakl looked good until I realized it was just a nitrided barrel.
Good to know I'm not missing out on anything. Thanks 👍
Really enjoy your videos, I just started watching about a month ago and have gone about a year back.
glad you enjoy it.
Semi good review on a semi cool product. I was semi disappointed in the cons mentioned, but I’m still semi interested in it regardless.
"I was only able to do 1300 rounds"
Meanwhile other GunTubers
"So I put 100 rounds through it and I'm fairly certain this is the best gun I've ever held, it's 100% gtg"
those aren't reviews though :D those are ads
@@BrassFacts oh I know, but they sure try to parade the facade of a review.
Dremel.... It'll fit
Love the Carnikon shout-out, I don't think I've heard any other gun tubers talk about him other than Ian
I love how you called it a combination of 3 other guns when it's just a derivative of the AR-180 design.
Subbed just now after watching 1911 Syndicates video about their favorite Guntubers.
hey, welcome
You might want to watch out in case someone misconstrues your barrier stop for a vertical foregrip. AR-15s with
They do mention 90' vertical foregrips. This is like 80' lol.
Its not vertical.
@@oldscratch3535 The law makes no mention of the exact angle. What the law says is that pistols have to be designed to be fired with one hand. The interpretation therefore is that design features only aiding two handed firing could be construed as redesigning the firearm to be something other than a pistol.
@@timewave02012 it has been defined before. Its easy to lookup btw
@@maxfanin1792 Can you reference a case? I'm not aware of the distinction between pistols and AOWs ever being tested in court.
"6 months, 7 months, 8 months, fuck you atf" LOL earned my sub.
Heard about you from 1911 syndicate. So I checked out your channel. Good shit, keep it.
thanks man! welcome.
The uppers are 649 and it comes with the end and the bolt release
Mom I want a scar
Mom: we got scar at home
Cool gun but I think I'll stick with my Bren 2, definitelya bit more expensive then the Jackal 😔. There is definitely something to be said about piston guns getting stupid front heave once you put a light and ir lazer on them.
I'm happy to see PSA offering more "home brew" designs. HOT TAKE: I think PSA is the new working man's gun company, surpassing Ruger.
That's nowhere near a hot take lmao
Outside of the LCP series, Ruger has been cheeks since the towers went down
the jakl is basically an AK is many ways lol welcome to the club. i run AKs that i build and yeah theyre fxckin heavy ! i have zenitco on mine with some parts for drills. i recently installed the AK builder flash cone and damn.. she really got heavy AF. running a PA slx 3X micro 7.63 optic and im pretty done adding shxt. im currently building a 5.56 AK using galil parts in a home stamped receiver lol. 14.5 barrel length. trying to cut down on the heft . the jakl is cool for sure. i want one
