- Welcome to our first season compilation video.
Whether you’re new to the channel and want to see what we’re about or just looking to get caught up, this episode is for you. Join us on our journey from April 2023 through October 2023 as we build our off grid, Alaska Homestead. Come with us as we see our Alaska property for the first time. Watch as we live in a cargo trailer while we start to build our 20 x 24 skillion roof tiny house. We begin developing three water sources, including a natural spring with the coldest most refreshing water I’ve ever tasted, put up an outhouse and take in some of the sights around the Kenai Peninsula.
Thanks for watching,
Craig & Chandra

BEST of luck!! Job well done!!
Thank you!!
Thank you for being real and showing the "real people" moments. All those "perfect people" videos make it seem imposible for real people to do this.
That’s why we do it. We got tired of watching the flawless videos. We’d try to do a project we seen online and struggle and be like, why is it so easy for everyone else? Then I realized, it’s just because they won’t show the screw ups. We don’t know what we’re doing and I can’t afford to pay a professional. I might be a bit ditzy sometimes but I’m not a dumb person so I figure if they learned how to do it, so can we. Maybe someone can learn from our mistakes or at the very least, have a laugh with us.
What a adventure!

Welcome! Thank you for joining us. We are new to editing and trying to improve and learn as we go. We appreciate any feedback.
My wife and I made the 1,200 miles from New York to South Florida in 2013. We couldn't be happier.
keep on with the good work, you two are enjoyable to watch
Thank you, we appreciate that 🩵
PRAYING 🙏🏼 FOR YOU ALL THAT EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT FOR THE FAMILY. ❤😂🎉💯
Thank you 🙏
Congratulations on the move on to the property. On the build of the house you should have insulated the flooring between the joices before laying the flooring. Your home will be very cold without that insulation. Well I guess you'll figure it out we all make mistakes when we first start. Wish you well
There’s a reason to our rhyme. Craig explains why we didn’t insulate the floor in this video…
Keeping the Cold Alaskan Winter Out | Adding Skirting to our Off Grid Tiny House
ruclips.net/video/jJ2q0kSXrtk/видео.html
My thoughts exactly and I would have gone a little further and put sheathing on the bottom of those floor joists to keep the porpcupines, squirrels and mice away.. Then, it would not have been necessary to enclose the perimeter.
The shot of the “Christmas tree” and driveway shows just how beautiful your property truly is!
We are definitely blessed 🩵
We’ll install the solar system this spring and it’s getting decorated next year for sure 🎄❤️💚
Famous last words..."I will come back to it and fix it later" 😂 I call those things part of my 20 year program.

You were making me laugh when doing your gutters, but love the fact that you are not perfect builders. That being said the two of you work well together and you are getting it done. Your making memories
I wanted to leave that out because it was just ridiculous how bad we were doing but we were laughing at it while editing and decided others would probably enjoy it too. We all have those days where things just don’t come together 😂
What a adventure you guys have had this year. Starting with a blank slate to making it your home. Can't wait for more adventures. You will make mistakes but step back laugh and learn and push forward, you will perceiver you are a buckeye.
Thank you 😊

Enjoying these videos. Idea: what about a check valve for pumping the water to your cabin
We have to pump quite a ways uphill, I’m not sure that would work for our situation.
You are living my dream, so I will just watch the three of you in Alaska. Great progress and a great place. God bless you, and I am so glad I found this video. 🙂✌🏼😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦃🦃🦃

I subbed because it is nice to see real people new to homesteading in Alaska.
Thank you for joining us. We’ve got lots of projects coming up this summer on top of finishing the house. Ducks, gardening, solar install, first time fishing, building a garage……
@@ouralaskahomesteadlook at the bright side the more established channels have to keep coming up with content and you guys are aways away from having that problem.

If you have trouble with your vent leaking in the future. Replace that section of roof and use a Deck Tight rubber flashing. That was a shingle flashing. The deck tight are silicone with a small metal ring at the base that can be formed over the ribs of your flashing. You set it in caulking “Through The Roof” then put a final coat around the edge. It’s a clean fit and you won’t have as big of a hole in your roof.
what a beautiful piece of property you have
You guys are fun to watch.😂
Thank you 😊
I subscribed to your channel last week and have been playing catch up. You can see a massive improvement in videoing and editing from now to this older videos. Good job guys!
How cool is that, building a house together as a family. What an opportunity for your son to learn building skills, from dad at that, even more special.
Great videos. I enjoy seeing people succeed in establishing your homestead. Beautiful land I can see why you moved and changed your life. Peace Love Happiness 💖💖💖
Thank you so much 💜
Great job , it’s hard when you have to let your son move away and a reliable helping hands is not enough.
Yes, it is hard. You go from worried sick that they’re ok to proud of how good they are doing. We definitely could have used his help but we were able to get it done.
@@ouralaskahomestead Your son move back to Ohio? How do you guys like the weather there compared to back this area I am from just east of where you guys were...I live in PA
@@chrispaytonwhite4622 my oldest lives in Ohio, he never left. The youngest that was on the first few videos moved a couple hours north with friends. The winters really aren’t that bad. Temperature wise it doesn’t get any colder it’s just that winter lasts longer.
@@ouralaskahomestead Anyways love the video it is a dream of mine to build my own retirement home to spend the rest of my life but I would like my daughters to get a little bit older before I do it...I am a disabled vet so things getting harder I don't have much movement left in lower legs...Recommendations itf its possible you all need a plow for your truck, maybe invest in a little mini excavator helps a ton. I would dig a well or run pvc pipes to the house with fresh water...
Looking good. Making progress. Good luck👍🥰🇺🇸
Thank you 😊
You’ll have a beautiful piece of Alaska!

Hi guys! Fun to look back at that first video when you showed up to all that snow. Rough start but glad you persevered! Been watching from the beginning and have really enjoyed your sense of humour through it all! You have to be able to laugh when it’s all going wrong because it surely will. Looking forward to you getting back to Alaska and continuing your build! Take care! T!
Thank you so much, we appreciate that.
It’s easy to forget how hectic and fast paced things are down here. It’s nice being able to help family and visit for the holidays but we’re ready to get back home. Thanks for watching 💜
Hopefully you can get in your driveway!@@ouralaskahomestead

Miss you too! Thank you 😊
Loved your build. Imagine my surprise when I saw your John Crane weather thermometer! I met my late husband there in '75. He continued to work there for over 30 years. Sure made me smile seeing this! Keep up the good work 👍🏻
That’s amazing! My husband salvaged it from an abandoned warehouse in Ohio many years ago. I loved the look of it so it’s moved around the country with us.
I love the way you keep it real and not act like you know it all!!!😁 Ive been a builder for 30 years and i learn something once a week!! Ive even heard ideas from kids 30 years younger than me!! Great job guys. I enjoyed your "struggles"😁👍

A good 45:25 way to install scaffolding , just add some cross bracing on the outside of the wall. Then add a 2x4 out from the wall to an upright board long enough to add a 2x4 handrail. Do that about every eight feet and add your 2”c12” walk boards. Use screws so it will come down easily. Add some scrap boards under the uprights. Just to keep them from sinking. Leave them up till your done with that side and go to another. On those side walls. I would put the scaffolding up like normal and just use a ladder for what you can’t reach. This sure is an adventure for you’all. I sure do envy you. Oh one more thought. The dogs will need bug protection. Farm stores carry Permethrin. Just mix it with water in a spray bottle. Just use a rubber glove and spray your hand and just rub it on their ears and nose. If you get a tic. I like to put them on tape. Before throwing them away. Then they will never get you again. Good luck. Later
That sounds like a great idea! We’ll have to try it on our shop build.
The one good thing about the short summers in this area is, no fleas or ticks! People do on rare occasions find one so I shouldn’t say “none” but it’s very unusual and they ask you to send them in for testing. Also, there’s never been a case of heartworm that initiated in Alaska, only dogs that come up with it. The life cycle of our mosquitoes is too short. The cold is good for something I guess 😉
I love your adventure, your home building, love your video.....Blessings !
Thank you 😊
Great job Craig and Chandra! We live in FL and have land in Homer. I am planning on building a cabin almost identical to your design and that’s how I found your channel. Our white GSD is part of the family so it’s nice to see them in your video. I would like to meet for coffee one day and get some guidance/ lessons learned from you. I might be there in late spring. Just found your channel. WOW!!! Excellent video. I'm going back and binge watching to get caught up.
Relax ! Your skills are far superior to those needed to homestead. Your homestead is going to look just fine ! Good work.

Awesome! Thank you!😊
Quite educational, real and funny. Keep your sense of humor.

If your trying to catch rain water put your drain at the pack of the house , your roof is sloped to the back and water doesn't run up hill
Yes, the gutter is on the back.
I really like the setup how the inside looks like you have to do what you have to do to get it done
That’s exactly what this year was about, just getting it livable and ready for winter. The finishing will get done next year.
Living the dream! Found you guys on the peppers page.

What a beautiful journey you had to get there 😊🌸
This was a great video. First time visiting viewer. I was reading an article about a couple with 2 children leaving AK for Florida, where I live. It’s usually the opposite way.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, that means a lot to us. A lot of people move up here but find it’s not the place for them. Winters are long, summers are spent working to prepare for winter, everything is expensive.
Hey guys! i arrived to my homestead on the kenai peninsula in may '23! i'm from missouri. loving it up here!
We are too! Thanks for watching and good luck on your homestead.
I checked out your page. You should get a band going up here. Almost all the music is hippie folk or country. We need some variety, something heavier.
