Did you try it with this specific scan tool? I do know Launch and Autel have started taking that feature away unless you have NASTF credentials. Launch even has short videos about it really sucks! From what I've researched Thinktool so far has no plans, but who knows.
So you lost immo function on the Thinkscan 689bt? You can try to use a vpn on your laptop that connects to an ip address not in North America and turn on hotspot then connect your scan tool to the laptop WiFi hotspot, this method works on the autel km100 and brings back the all keys lost function that was taken away a couple months ago.
I didn’t lose it on mine as I’m not updating, but it’s happening to users that updates. I don’t know if the laptop idea would work as it maybe vin specific. Check the links I provided as they have all the makes what are on board. It’s up to us to protect our devices and keep servicing our vehicles.
@ launch push an update a week ago with notification pop ups on launch devices stating it needs NASTF credentials log in or immo security functions will be restricted.
Do you happen to have a scan tool that has been locked, with this workaround being effective? I saw on a RUclips video that as long as you register your tool in the settings portion in an Asian market (not US, Canada, or the UK) and use a VPN, you won't lose certain functions. The video doesn't mention a specific manufacturer. The creator also said this method could unlock additional features that aren’t available when connecting without a VPN🤷♂️
about last June I used my Launch 919e to program a new remote for my 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe, worked fine, in November I needed a new remote for my 2013 Kia Optima, thinking to myself it worked on my Hyundai should work on my Kia, didn't work. I did do an update, do you know if you can rollback any updates ?
Thanks for sharing, that is very helpful. I find it very challenging to get the dealer to do anything for free, at least in the in states. It feels like we are walking backwards.
Great questions, I would stay away from immobilizer and vehicle specific updates for any vehicle you may want to make a key for in the near future. Each make is different and honestly it’s much easier to avoid all updates. I know for a shop that it’s is had to do but for home diy it should not be a big issue.
secondary to my other comment, I read a comment on some automotive website that says the NASTF agreement is not applicable in Europe and if you have a VPN on your home WIFI, set your VPN so it's shows that it's coming from outside of the US and then the scanner doesn't flag it and ask for security codes when you try to do keys, anybody heard anything like that or know if that is correct/works ?
Hi can i ask you something abouth thinkscan 689 BT what are capabilities off immobilizer can it read pin code , create masterkey , all key lost , etc or is not avle to do that?
This is the response I got from ThinkCAR in regards to this video. "We at THINKCAR are not removing the IMMO feature (nor will we in future updates) and hopefully you will make that clear on the video. But for the key code, we usually can't read it directly to get it, the customer enters it themselves. If their vehicle turns out to be unreadable, then it's not a problem with our tool."
So do you think I shouldn’t update XTOOL D8S for the first time when arriving since I order D8S and I should get it this Friday.. should I update it when I get it or NO, And does this apply to scan tool in Canada or just USA ? Please let me know
This is offtopic from the video, but do you if they have updated the thickscan 689 bt to see the car battery in the screen. If yes can i see a picture of it?
I jut tried a few days ago and the vehicle’s battery information was not there? I don’t know what to say, others have said that they have the car battery information but I only get the scan tool battery charge level. The wired version has no issues.
Hey, i have mercedes s500 2006, and s500 1998, and a bmw 740li 2014, i want a device that can be used at home i want to fix the cars myself, whats the best device that could be comprehensive and has all the features needed, thanks.
There is such scan tools that can do everything across all makes but this ruclips.net/video/hE6pRJ6n9M4/видео.htmlsi=mz0NNVDgxJCjfLx2 is what I would get diy as it’s pretty good and doesn’t break the bank. In case there is an issue that this scan tool can not handle you will have money saved to pay a professional that has very expensive scan tool or oem software for the fix. Remember that most scan tools charge anywhere from 199 to 299 per year for the software. The one I recommended has lifetime updates.
While the PIN retrieval feature is still active on the scanner, can we simply display the PIN code and write it down for future refereence if/when we need it? Does the PIN code change, or is it a fixed value over the life of the vehicle?
Yeah you can read the PIN code and write down but they may disable the feature going forward. Trust I can see a whole black market full of scan tools that don’t comply and they should not have to. We are not doing anything wrong.

I haven't heard from Xtool yet but viewers are saying the Xtool is still working, I will find out as I have two Xtool units coming next week

Maybe because it’s around the Chinese New Year’s?
From what I've seen, today's scantools don't work well without internet and then it updates automatically?
