    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

    I love the fact that an astrophysicist is treated like a rockstar. Makes me happy that science is such a hot topic with a surprising majority of the population.

    • @Thabo616
      @Thabo616 8 лет назад +62

      I think it's more to do with his personality and how he delivers the information as opposed to science being a hot topic, people are more interested because it's NDGT

      videogamebomer There was this thing Dawkins said about dumbing down science for people and talking only about the fun parts of it and how it's not very efficient and productive. I have to agree.
      It's great that NT makes people more interested in it, but most of them just want to appear more smart and hip, posting his quotes on their facebook walls and following him on twitter. They are not driven by the desire for knowledge, but by the opportunity for self-satisfaction that can come from knowing some things about cheery picked topics or because they simply find him entertaining.

    • @DatsBoCrapp
      @DatsBoCrapp 8 лет назад +7

      iridescentraindrops That's definitely a part of it. But there a quite a lot of people who are also inspired by Mr. Tyson and have taken more of interest in Science in general. Sure there are people that you've described, but there are a lot of people who genuinely love science and that can be attributed, in part, to Mr. Tyson.

      Not for nothing, but Tyson refers to himself as an Agnostic, not Atheist. Its a small distinction but an important one so explained by the man himself.

      Agnostics believe in God but not religion right?

    • @jamnana2235

      Some agnostics think it means "I believe in something, just don't know what that something is".
      Tyson is the type who subscribes to it's actual meaning: "I do not claim certainty of the existence or non-existence of god/s"

    • @PaisleySundance

    This clip doesn't answer the question. A strawberry moon is a full moon on the longest day of Summer.

    • @thubelihlezondi5822
      @thubelihlezondi5822 8 лет назад +3

      Why's it called "strawberry"?

    • @rparl
      @rparl 8 лет назад

      +Thubelihle Zondi Mostly traditional / arbitrary, but consider that (in the Northern hemisphere) strawberries will soon ripen. Harvest moon, honey moon, Winter moon, etc.

    • @giomjava
      @giomjava 8 лет назад +1

      As explained in the clip, "honey moon" is called thus just because of color resemblance. And strawberries ripen differently in different climatic zones. Just putting it as "northern hemisphere" doesn't explain it.

    • @rparl
      @rparl 8 лет назад

      +Giorgi Maghlakelidze OK. You take a shot at it.

    • @giomjava
      @giomjava 8 лет назад

      No worries! If I were to risk a guess, I'd say you're mostly right -- with the addition of that it probably originated in a geographical region where strawberries (naturally) ripen this time of the year.

    To answer the question, though. The "Strawberry Moon," as it is dubbed, was the coloration of the moon during the Summer Solstice. When the Northern Hemisphere reaches the summer months and is technically the longest day of the year. The sun has more exposure and is able to project its light on to the surface of the moon more fully. Creating a longer gradient of coloration when sunset occurs.

    The number 60 has a meaning. It was Anu's rank. Enki was 40, and Enlil was 50. These are merely reflections of the original 360-year Earth orbit, or 3600 in Hebrew (Nibiru), before a cataclysm changed Earth's orbit to 365 days. Or something like that.

    A blue moon is actually the third moon in a season which has 5 instead of 4. While it is true the June full is the one that will occur on the longest day in relation to other fulls, and typically will be seen with the most color on it's listed calendar day, the days both before and after can be closer to the actual full and positioned such that they can have more color, sometimes pink or strawberry. So yes they are more likely to be more colorful but it is the position of the moon that does that, not because of the calendar date on which it falls.

    As much as I love Neil deGrasse Tyson, he didn't actually explain it.
    The strawberry moon is so called because it's the full moon that occurs usually in late June, the time to pick strawberries (the moon itself is usually amber, like he said, not red) and it occurs every year. Why everyone was freaking out about it *this* year was because it happened on the same day as the summer solstice, which is hella rare and won't occur again for like 50 years or something.

    1:59 he is right, from our perspective the moon does not rotate. But it does rotates with the Earth itself, from an outside perspective.
