  • Quickjack User Error; Recipe For Disaster?
    I was recently following a Social Media group discussion about the QuickJack failing and being an unsafe product. While I'm sure there are issues that occur from time to time but are those issues product flaws or user error?
    In this video I'm sharing my thoughts on two of the points brought up in the conversation. While this is just my opinion, I feel the situation was completely avoidable. As always, safety should be a top priority and adherence to established procedures can keep you out of a pickle.

    Yup. Read the manual thoroughly. Quickjack did an excellent job writing the instructions. If you can't follow directions, don't buy tools. Manual plainly states do NOT lower without wheels on vehicle. I have this device. I absolutely love it. Can't believe I used a floor jack to rotate tires.

      Exactly right! So many people don't even know how bad they need them.😎

    It’s crazy how people will use it all like this without reading the directions. I couldn’t imagine getting under a car without knowing that the Jack was secure.

      Same, boggles my mind. If they needed help getting the wheel back on then go to the gym or use a phone a friend.

    The safety bars work well when you Maintenance them correctly meaning 50psi air in the cylinders and lubed and have the tracks the safety bar sits in clean of all debris. If your still worried you can use standard tripod Jack stand with the safety bar to make sure it doesn’t come down unannounced.

      I think the issues people face are when a tool is used improperly but I totally agree that poor maintenance is also a major issue. Thanks for your insight!

      Actually Quickjack has said in past videos that the air in the cylinder tanks is for initial set up, that once you have bleed the system it does not matter if you have air in cylinder tanks or not. It has been a while but I think they even said they were going to do away with the small air cylinders because they really were not needed. I have an SLx5000 quick jack for my Mustang and I used it on my Tacoma because my Tacoma weighs just a touch over 4,000 pounds so I am well within the 5,000 pound rating for my Quickjack.

      Thank you for the comment! The air tank is most helpful during the cylinder break-in period which is when the lift is new. The first 20 or so cycles are when it is doing the most work.
      They did say in the above post that the air cylinders play a roll, but it seems they're most useful during the break-in period. I remember another discussion where Quickjack said they were thinking of doing away with the air cylinder in the future. I see they still appear to have it on the new models.
      I would be interested in Quickjacks current thought on this.

      @@mustangecoboosthpp3869 I haven't touched the air on mine since the first setup to be totally honest. Never gave it a second thought.

    FYI the manual does state:
    "As an added precaution, you must always use auxiliary safety stands under the Vehicle while elevated on both QuickJack Frames."
    Can't say I have ever seen anyone do that though.

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  10 месяцев назад

      I've done it once but typically don't. When I talked to one of the folks at QJ he indicated it wasn't necessary but didn't flat out say it.

    • @kencarp57
      @kencarp57 8 месяцев назад +2

      Their lawyers make them say that. QuickJack's own YT videos show them overloading a QJ 3 to 4 times and it doesn't fail - because it's LOCKED.
      The only way to safely use QJs is to follow their directions and make sure BOTH frames are on the locking bars with the bars fully engaged in the lock points in the frames BEFORE lowering the QJs onto the locking bars to settle them firmly. I've never read anything anywhere about a QJ failing IF USED PROPERLY.

    all the videos i watched about problems with qj is operator error. air cylinders help lower jacks last few inchs with 0 weight. i charged mine once when new an no more thats why there not needed i have 7000 tl awesome

      @YellowJacketGarage  9 месяцев назад

      I'd agree with you. All the issues I've seen are the same and if there's an actual product issue, QJ is quick to respond from my experience.

      For me the same. QJ System is really helpful. If I work longer under the car after lifting up i let it in the mechanical stop and disconnect the hoses. Never have some problems to reactivate it after one week to lift down again.

    While the importance of following instructions is not lost on me, imho this product has just too many ways to go wrong. Personally I will be shopping for a high quality scissors jack

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  11 месяцев назад +2

      They definitely both have their pros and cons. The scissor jack didn't give me the working space under the car.

    • @benjaminwiener9942

      With other scissors jack you can have fail in using, too. If you follow the instructions correctly then you have no problems. I use the Model 7000 TL nearly one year now with different types of cars on it. Never got trouble with it and I it was safe to work under the cars.

    safety systems are supposed to work when the thing isn't used the right way. The quick jack lock is not a safety mechanism

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  Месяц назад

      It most definitely is a safety mechanism per QuickJack themselves. They state to NEVER get under a vehicle without the safety locks in place. They also go on to say you can store a vehicle on the QuickJack indefinitely as long as those safety lock bars are in place. Those safety bars are actually part of the system to be used properly. Do you own a set of these by chance?

  • @larrydeem3071

    I have a set of quick jacks but i wouldn't get under the car without first putting jack stands under front and tires under rear diff. I worry about side to side stability if i am cranking on a fastener.

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  11 месяцев назад

      I do it all the time but I also don't get too crazy with trying to move fasteners by hand. I agree that if I needed to really beat on something I'd absolutely use supplemental stands.

    Do you always keep the jack pressure on the bars when not used for awhile or it’s ok not to? For example I work on my car and than something comes up and I have to drop what I was doing. I don’t get to continue on the car for like i say 2-3 days. What’s the best way to help maintain the the jack??

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  11 месяцев назад

      If you're leaving your car up on the jack you just need to make sure its on the safety bars and pressure off the cylinders. You can actually leave it up in the air and take the hoses off as long as it's locked on the safety bars. Send me an email and I can shoot you some pictures if needed just to be clear.

    The Quickjacks are great if you're lucky and get one without a defective air cylinder. If you do get one of those you're screwed - the company will 100% not stand behind their product. They'll claim the air-assist down isn't "necessary to the function of the lift". Really? So if one side has air assist down and the other doesn't, and they drop unevenly, that's safe? And then when the car vehicle drops to the ground ground and one side of the lift goes straight to the full down position while the other... doesn't. You need to wait... and wait... and wait for it to drop with no weight on it. Quickjack will claim this "is normal operation" and that "it will get better over time". If you invest a massive amount of time trying to get them to stand behind their product they will, eventually, after burning through every once of customer goodwill, send out a new cylinder. Yay! Until you get the replacement and the freakin' air side is literally capped off. Like intentionally made unusable. That's not a fix guys. Then they'll claim that the engineers decided the down-assist wasn't necessary and that they've changed the design on future models. But I didn't buy a future model with less functionality. I bought the current model with exactly the functionality I wanted, was promised, and paid for. Whatever. Too much time wasted on it already - I've written off the entire company as another skanky marketing hack with no integrity. I still have it in my shop, but the company worked very hard to make me regret my purchase and it low-key pisses me off every time I look at it.

      So sorry you had issues with yours. I'd be 100% pissed too. They're not cheap to begin with and when they don't work as advertised makes it even worse! Hopefully you can find some of my other content at least remotely useful or entertaining.
