Replacing an Alternator, 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD #cars #automobile #carmaintenance
In this episode I replaced the alternator in my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD. I had the voltmeter reading low and the lights flickering when running the vehicle and the battery is new. This gave me the clue the alternator was on it's way out.
No, I didn't test it because I felt it was pretty obvious what the issue was. If you've never done this sort of diagnostic before I would recommend having the alternator tested before replacing it just to make sure you're not spending money you don't need to.
This job cost about $200 for the new alternator and I did get the lifetime warranty so I'll never pay for it again...I ...

Cutting a hole in the plastic cowl piece is not the way to go. It may be easier to ruin a body part, but not the way to go. Instead, disconnect battery, disconnect fuel lines from fuel rails , remove plastic engine covers and the intake manifold. The sending unit can be easily accessed then. Buy new intake gaskets, and reinstall everything in reverse. In about 2 hours, you should be done. It isn't a difficult job to do this.

Are the low enough top get under the vette without any initial raising? If I also wanted to use these on like a SUV, is it enough or move up to like a 7000TL? Normally when this raises all the way up it's enough height to get the wheels off with suspension drop?

It most definitely is a safety mechanism per QuickJack themselves. They state to NEVER get under a vehicle without the safety locks in place. They also go on to say you can store a vehicle on the QuickJack indefinitely as long as those safety lock bars are in place. Those safety bars are actually part of the system to be used properly. Do you own a set of these by chance?

Love the production value and the presentation. This being said... there's hundreds of videos on tie rods and lower control arm replacement on youtube, but, there's very very little body repair, especially frame damage assessment. Is there going to be a part 3? I"m champing at the bit :)

@williampierson4340 thanks for watching and commenting! I have more in work on this car but it may be a few weeks before it gets released as this is just a "for fun" deal. This comment will add some motivation though so thank you for this!😎

I was just about to call you the king of plastic hacks. LOL. I agree with you plus those boots are better protected (the clue that those pieces were ripped off already might show how many times they're hit saving those boots) or they just suck and rip apart with the wind. LOL. I like the concept and could still possibly be a great tool for smaller repairs. Thanks for sharing!

I may just become that guy.🤣 I've got another project in the future that will probably need this tool as well but might be the staples next time. Thanks for watching and commenting Brother!

Worthwhile just learning how to get it to work. I usually buy the tools, and then they sit in a box for decades.

I'll admit to doing the same. Found a spark plug cleaner I'd bought 20 years ago, still in the box.🤣

Enjoyed the proof of concept and new plastic welder. Very cool. It’s not like anyone will look below…. The new cover is nice.

Pretty cool little welder, I can tell it is better than the last you used. The new cover definitely looks better, but the welded one would have worked for someone in a pinch or for someone who didn’t really care about the look. Great video brother, I was hoping this welder would work better than the last

Will it be used to tighten the crankshaft pulley screw of a Mitsubishi Montero sport with an impact drill?

It could as long as you can get the proper torque on that bolt.
