  • Replacing The Rear Shocks On My 2006 Mercedes SLK55 AMG
In this episode I discover a leaking shock after a tire issue leaves me on the side of the road. While I know these cars are famous for their odd tire wear, this instance seems a bit beyond what I consider normal. I replaced both rear tires as well as the rear shocks.
The link below is an extra look at the zip-tie hack for installing shock absorbers:

FYI They make an oval socket for the tops of shock absorbers

I'll have to look into that one, thanks for the suggestion.😎

Good to know about those perforations, that's a great tip, thanks to you and your buddy! I think I might find some rubber plugs to fit for when I do mine. I like your portable lift, another great tool that I am needing, the SLK55 is a pain to jack up on all 4 wheels.

They were a cool little find for sure. These quickjacks are a huge benefit. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎

Yikes on the tires. I'm only used to seeing those on clapped out stance cars. Lol. Good Ole German engineering behind all those steps for such a customary easy job. Lol. Good brand on the shocks. Hope that solves it.

I'm hoping it fixes it too, the other side had far less wear and that shock seemed ok. These engineers sure make it easier on the mechanic, even for the hard to get to parts...so far. Thanks for watching Brother!

I'll run it through the rack again after I throw more parts at it in a week or so.🤣

Lots of work. Just a question, but do you ever use a tripod? It would help you be able to record with 2 hands. I see you record hands free sometimes, like at the beginning and end of the video.
Just brought it up since you weren’t able to record the whole part with all the rivets. Still a great video, and easy to follow along with

I typically use either a tripod or a gator mount but this time it was just a bit easier getting closer to the work. I actually need to figure out a magnetic mount that's strong enough to hold the camera with the new light I've been using. Thanks for the feedback, I'll see if I can work something else into the mix and let you know to watch for it.😎

@@YellowJacketGarage how about a head strap, for when you're needing both hands?

I just changed the one on mine and they make spring noises, is that normal?

What do you mean by spring noises? Once installed there shouldn't really be any noise. If you can get a video of the noise, email the video to yellowjacketgarage@gmail.com and I'll take a listen.

Can you please tell us what the cost was?

I bought the shock absorber kit from FCP Euro that has all new hardware for just under $360 shipped. Strongly recommend FCP Euro for parts as they carry just about anything you'll need at good prices. The kit #24113441 is the one for my car.

@@YellowJacketGaragethanks for replying, do you notice a difference in ride quality? I feel my 2005 slk55 AMG ride is stiff without great handling.

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  9 месяцев назад

@basketball798 it feels like it stiffened the ride slightly but in a good way. Might be the tires you're running, if you're using a run-flat it will give a much more solid ride.
