  • In This edition I am using the tool I made in the last video to drain and replace the differential fluid in the YJG 2006 Mercedes SLK55 AMG. Pretty easy project and something any do it yourself home mechanic could probably tackle yourself with basic tools and knowledge.
    This is not a procedure that is the same for all makes and models, but a basic template that can be followed for many manufacturers...as always, consult your manual for specifics as well as proper fluids and any specialty tools you may need.

    You should always loosen the upper (fill) plug first to ensure that you CAN get it out. If you drain the diff first and then encounter problems removing the fill plug, you're in a mess.

      100%. Pretty sure I mentioned that but I probably should have stressed it better. Thank you for the comment and for watching! Very much appreciated.

    Man, they don't give you a lot of room to perform the maintenance! Smart thinking on making the tool to fit in the tight space. Nice going. Great tip.

      The one thing I'll say about Mercedes though is they keep the mechanic in mind when they engineer their cars. Far easier than a lot of other makes.

    fcpeuro has a great wrench for that differential . works for both drain plug and filler plug. $20.00

    I would have opened to the top bolt first, just in case it wouldn't open and there will be no way to fill the diff after draining.

    Thx for the vid! I was looking for the correct oil for my MB c-classe 350 2006 and i read mineral oil is not the good way to go. So yet i will use 75w85 syntHetic hypoïd gl5 from MB. What do you think about that? (MB don't use anymore 85w90).

      Personally if there's any question I'd call either FCP Euro or the folks at Amsoil for a recommendation. Oil tech has changed greatly since 2006 so I'd look for the best option available. Thank you for watching!

    Whoops. Well, under normal circumstance people don't have to worry about their camera falling over. lol. That's one of the things I hate about any vehicle made after about 1986, they put everything so close together you can't hardly get to it.

      I used the Liqui Moly GL5 SAE 85W-90 from FCP Euro. The important thing to know is if you have a limited slip diff or not. Do you know if your car is a Black Series or not?

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  3 года назад +1

      According to the information I could find, the SL55 calls for the change every 40k miles but I've seen comments about every 80k miles. That oil is cheap enough that I think 40k miles is what I will go with. Thanks for the question, I appreciate it very much.
